hey kidz, i was getting post withdrawl so i thought i'd send you all happy monday wishes to greet the beginning of another week in which i fully intend to get up during the morning every single day. i successfully achieved this somewhat unnatural feat last week and couldn't believe how much better i felt for it. this morning i even got up early and sat watching the olympics which i am compleeeetely obsessed with, today's athletics being particularly exciting as we actually have some medal hopes. so a sinister big up nuff respect goes out to all the competitors (especially the british ones). but did anyone see the guy who won gold on the gymnastic rings thingies?? good lord!! i just don't understand how anyone can do that. oh and before i forget, props are also due to the commentating team who have seemingly been staying awake all day and all night just to anchor the olympic coverage (i don't know if this is the case for other countries, but the bbc team have certainly been overdosing on caffeine). i have been dogged with illness though, as the other morning i woke up, having suffered some kind of allergic reaction, with my face swollen into a huge balloon-esque affair. i'm ok now, but it did make me feel less than confident which in turn has led me to discover a remedy for lack of confidence, namely buying a hair magazine and trying styles out on myself and making them look better than in the pictures. so today i am sporting a dramatic diagonal parting and flicks all round and i feel g!r!a!t!e! i'm sure i saw a boy in my logic lecture on friday with upside down b+s badges attached to his bag, my eyes may have been deceiving me, but if you are said maths student at manchester university email me and i will say hello (i'm that slightly scary looking girl who always sits on her own near the back) and while i'm on the subject, if chris_t_opher has sorted out pooter access at uni you email me again too and i'll finally meet you. on the jeepy forum there is some talk of a meetup in manchester at the star and garter this saturday, i am well up for meeting some cool kids and i'm sure we can extend it to a sini-meet although i'm not too pleased about the venue as certain people close to me are barred from going. but if anyone wants to join in / has suggestions look on the meetupos bit on the forum or mail me or something and someone will finalise details. last week, i decided that this year i really would write for our uni newspaper, after all you get free gig tickets and records and stuff, so i plucked up the courage to go along to the first meeting. to my horror i realised that i had at some time, managed to offend or abuse just about everyone involved with the music section (mostly when i was drunk) and so i hung my head in shame and scuttled out of the room. .... if any of the aforementioned people ar reading this, as i know some have been on the list in the past, i really am sorry.... never have i been so embarassed and never before did i understand why it was bad to get drunk and do stoopid things, but now i see the error of my ways and i'll make sure i always have someone on hand to restrain me when i'm in a room with cheap vodk despite this, now i'm in the mood for writing, so my assosciate / bloke and i are starting our own fanzine type thing. however what i gain in enthusiasm i lack in inspiration, so if anyone has any ideas or anything pleeeeease help me. thanks. seem to have spent this post just asking people to do stuff for me, but i just didn't have anything constructive to say about the beatles, lloyd cole or whatever else is being discussed just now. guess i'll just have to think of something controversial to say next time. well, it's still nice to be back, love and irn-bru, fiona 'i can see the grass grow' roy wood - genius ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ in praise of urusei yatsura:- http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/wrappedinfakefur ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. Sinister: French and Latin (and Biology and Maths)

Autumn's great isn't it? Not only do you get crunchy leaves underfoot and an overwhelming desire to hide in leaf piles and jump out at passers by, but it gets nice and cold, you can wear scarves and coats, which are great, and you can put the fire on and get all TOASTy. That along with the fact that it's got two consonants next to each other *one of which you don't pronounce!* makes it a top season. Mind you, it's a dangerous precedence, this consonant stuff. What will those secretive Season Boffins in their labcoats think of next? A season spelled such that you don't pronounce *any* of its letters? That wouldn't be easy. Oh my god I've just thought, what if they've invented a season already which doesn't HAVE any letters and NONE OF US KNOW. Help. Autumn in french is Automne, which is arguably even better than the english version. It wasn't quite Automne in Paris last week, but it was fairly leafy I can tell you. Sorry we didn't catch up with any french listees while we were there, but we only really decided to go the day before, because all the petrol was running out in the UK, and there was stacks of it in Paris. Next time I'll mail a few people, for back we shall go, because Paris was sooper. We hung about the Marais district being quite gay, and after a phone message (it's fixed) from David Moore, popped in at Saint Chappelle, which was truly merveilleux, even under deep cloud. Mr Moore's french is quite good isn't it? I reckon he's the hot favourite to start a french B&S list. Oon messaged me too from Thailand, which shows what you can do with an elephant wired up to the mains, and Starry taught me the french word for "flu". And we had a running commentary of the last day of Big Brother from the quite delicious Mark C, accompanied by lady-in-waiting Lucy and hommes des affaires, Martin and Ally. Martin bet a fiver on Craig with Linda and won, but I bet she won't pay up. The other great thing about Autumn is that all the new releases come out roundabout now, so if you're gainfully employed you can stock up for Winter (two adjacent consonants, but sadly you pronounce them both) like a squirrel, or if you're a stoodent or a schooly, you can go on a massive stealing spree in Woolworths. I did the squirrelly thing, and bought some stuff in Virgin, France (tenuous B&S connection: they used to sell B&S in Europe before Jeepster became Jeepster International Enterprises Incorporated) including some things I'm not sure are released in the UK. A wonderful LP from Brazil by Bebel Gilberto called "Tanto Tempo", who turns out not to be related to Astrid (bluffing here) but the daughter of Bossa Nova master Joao Gilberto, who I haven't heard but suspect I should have. It's a lovely LP. And also someone called Pink Martini or something which is again latiny but seems to come from the US. The sticker on the cover proudly announces it contains a track off a Citroen advert called "Je Ne Veux Pas Travailler", a sentiment I can entirely agree with after my return to work. You've all probably had this CD for ten years. Back in the UK, still gathering nuts, I was pleased to see Cinerama's LP which I popped in my pouch, but haven't actually listened to yet, and thrilled that the Montgolfier Brothers LP was out on Alan McGee's new label, but a little disconcerted when I got home and realised it was a re-release of the one I got on import. It's worth listening to twice though, particularly "Pro Celebrity Tarting Around". Squirrels have cheeks, not pouches, don't they. Anyway enough of all this seasonal buffoonery, because when I got back to Castle Sinister, I found an envelope with quite the best artificial rose I've ever seen contained within. This is the promised prize for the theoretical competition we could theoretically have if someone theoretically suggested one and offered to run it, as per my last mail. Steve Carsmile suggested a painting competition, I suspect nude, but has gone ominously quiet about it. I think it's a good idea though. Honestly, this rose is the tops, it has plastic thorns and everything. No wonder the BBC keep upping the TV licence fee and talking about introducing adverts. Does anyone else want to run a silly competition and judge it? Please someone suggest something or I'm keeping it, and wearing it behind my ear at work, which will get me the sack, then I'll have to stop running Sinister, and then you'll all have to join the Status Quo list. Sinister: V-Twin update (and a bit of B&S content)

Hi all, The new V-Twin single, "Delinquency", is in the shops now. (in the UK at least, it's probably only available from very specialist import shops in other countries) It features Chris playing his 303, and Stevie playing his electric sitar. A mini-album, "Free the Twin" which is a compilation of almost all the tracks from the first four singles is being released at the end of next month. The are also playing live on the 5th October at The Lemon Tree in Aberdeen, supporting Teenage Fanclub. The gig is part of the Radio 1 Evening session 10th birthday celebration, and parts will be transmitted live and webcast. sinister well no not really is the answer to ur question twasnt the weirdest weekend just thought hmm, for a subject tis rather gid :) glasgow on saturday i saw a b&s fan wearing a iyfs t and a brown shirt over and brown troosers (methinx) walking up buch st and i wanted to say hi but i am too pansy :/ i go to a mosher club in falkirk called the engine room tis sooper on friday i went in the pit for the 1st time and the swellbellys (a band) gave me a free t shirt coz i stayed in the pit for their whole set i was chuffed :) on saturday on queeen st just after exiting flip and the hellfire club a randomn bloke came up to me (stranger likes) and told me that i was that punk :) = yeah look out 4 me i have a 3.5" mohican and 3 wee fluffy tied up bits on either side and piercings its my birthday 2mo ill be turning the stoopid age of 17 oh yes, 17 is a very stoopid age another year older another year (none the) wiser another year closer to DEATH!!!! the one i love has been gone 2 weeks today 5 weeks to go saw him off at the train station walking away from that train was the hardest thing ive ever had to do b4 i am over and out i have one last thing i need to mention PICNIC! i cAnt wAit till the next one! even if its snow! even better if its snow! for now that is all slinkies and sticklebricks your friend always sweetie xox i am that punk! _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Hello sinister, I'd like to worn you before you start reading, those of you who will anyway; it's not going to be a cheerful letter... Today we had the first rain... I woke up with the sound of rain falling down... it was about 9pm... I fell back to sleep again.. is it only me who finds the sound of rain falling down reassuring? And it was so chilly... quite a difference from the 30-35c that we were used to... so, I cuddled again under my duvet, feeling happy, safe, content.. It was still raining when I woke up... the sky was grey and the air was carrying the smell of wet soil... I listened to some music... his voice seems to have haunted me... it was following me around for the rest of the day... Eventually the sun came out in all its glory... my server was down; and it remained down the whole day... I had to indulge myself with the pleasures of an internet café, once more... But I did meet some friends and I was offered a radio show in a station here... I don't know what I'll do as they want me to play 5 days a week from 4-6pm... and they don't pay for it... My friend Aris told me that Matt (the sarah and shinkansen records bloke) said that once he received a letter from a guy who was writting that he had kissed the girl he had fallen in love with for the first time whilst listening to "Pristine Christine"... I don't know why, but this story made me feel all nice... The server was still down when I came back home... And the weather was so melancholic... I thought that I should read and then walk spooky the dog at the beach... it was 10pm... It was so beautiful! The moon was struggling its way through some heavy clouds... it's a fading summer... I've just realised... autumn is here... once more... The sand was full of jellyfishes washed off by the waves... I was trying not to step on them since they're so very slimy... if that's the word... there was this café which was packed the whole summer... but now there was noone there, noone but an old woman sitting alone at a table talking on her mobile phone... I could hear some music coming from a bar... I could see the beacon's light going on and off... Some boys arrived on their motorbikes... Spooky tried to go into this café and a cat attacked her! The old bloke who owns the place came out to the door and told me to take spooky away cause the "cat will eat her"! Yes! I looked at the sea... the boys were laughing at the old man and the "dog-eater cat"... I looked at the sea and walked across the beach once more... I couldn't see the moon... heavy, grey clouds had taken over... but I could see the silver light coming through the clouds and onto the surface of the water... magical... I could feel the sand under my feet... I wanted to swim... If... I stopped by the kiosk on my way back home to buy some cigarettes... someone called my name... it was this woman who lives in the same building as I... we had a small talk over the same old banalities... then she left... and I bought my cigarettes and starting walking again, pondering upon these small town dialectics... they make you feel comfortable and safe in their own silly way... I came back home... the server's still down... It's 11pm... I think I'll make a tape... someone called but I don't want to go out... I've been having weird dreams lately... since I came back to Greece... are dreams a diversion to reality... I once read a book in which it was written: "dreams are cruel and if you loved me you wouldn't ask me about my dreams... I have no dreams... I can't dream... and I'm so grateful for that"... not in these words exactly though, but very close... an italian author, can't remember his name... he was an nobel prize winner... but I bare no respect for nobel prize winners... and I was really dissapointed when I found out that Camus had accepted his... where as Sartre, whom I always disliked, turned it down... what am I talking about? Anyway, I think there's nothing left to say at this point... hello sinister this is one of them first post things, even though i've been on the list for ages but finally getting the internet at home means i can actually keep up with list messages. and maybe even use the scarey chat rooms some day, even if the computer which i get to use here is of fisher-price standards. i've just been catching up with the list, which is quite a few emails indeed and i think i've been affected my some weirdy computer radiation waves cos i've gone all funny so sorry if this is too rubbish (and that my excuse for everything i write from now on). its been quite weird reading posts about sodastream who are from my small and dull part of the world, i remember going to see gigs by karl's previous band as a 15 year old school girl and swoon over his hunched shoulders and songs about penguins. hmmm sad times indeed. speaking of school memories John Maxwell nearly got expelled for for flashing his arse at school. i nearly had the same experience except my misdemeanour was running topless across the halls at school camp (for a dare, assisted with plenty of booze, not cos i'm an exhibitionist like) and i got a proper telling off and was banned from further camps. he also described a lovely place he lives at which sounds amazing - i live about 20 minutes from a big waterfall which i used to go and sit near a lot but probly take it for granted cos i've not been there for ages. mmm tranquille indeed, i think i might go later this week. i'm currently on holidays from university for 2 weeks instead of the ususal 1, specifically because of the olympics. a bit mad but i'm not complaining. and yeah, stars of track and field are not the most beautiful people i've seen and have crap hair. gymnasts on the other hand are a bit alright, but maybe thats just me. oh and my tenuous b+s content - in regards to slow-mo-moshing brought up by ken - i seen it happen, albeit by only two people - to Expectations. tres bizarre. is anyone else excited about the auctions?? i probly live too far away for the best things up for bid and too skint as well, i can but try love, k xxx __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Sinister: What fun school is ( with a little topping of arse)

Hello, hello It's been a week nearly since I last posted. Maybe this time there'll be some B&S content...... Did anyone hear Struan on Radio1 not last thursday, but the thursday before? No1's commented on it, but surely some1 else heard it? I was bouncing up and down, actually hearing him do an interview. The first moment on it was class, when Gill Mills introduced him. ".........................hello" Classic B&S! Anyway, for those who never heard it he was talking about the auction that's coming up. Gill said she's offering to look after gerbils and stuff. What a boring week I've had. Homework's starting to become even more intense, much to mine & everyone else's amusement. "Can't wait to get stuck into these books later." Can't wait at all. Usually I can't keep up with all the posts that come flying in at a time, but there only seems to be a small trickle coming through just now. Maybe because uni's starting now. I got the "Powerpuff Girls" theme-tune last night, by Bis. It's fantastic. I was watching the cartoon on the telly when I was downloading it. Don't know why it never got n that program with Adam&Joe the other night. Same goes for Mona the Vampire. (Bubbles is my fav Powerpuff girl) See if I could actually get my stubborn band to play some B&S songs, what songs would I get them to learn? I've got a few in mind. Mayfly, the State I'm in, Is it Wicked not to Care? I'd probably have to get a female vocalist for the latter though. My voice is too deep. Someday I'm going to go out and busk, but not quite yet. I need to work on my vocals (quite a bit actually) and my confidence. I'm too shy for my own good. Here's a little anecdote that contradicts what i just said. In Aril/Mayish there was the School talent show. I was hoping for some stand-up comedy and some juggling etc but it was only bands and solo singers. Anyway, it was about a fortnight before the show, and my band was up first for a rehearsal. We sounded pish coz our drummer couldn't make it, and we left after our 2songs. I left my Marshall amp there. I went back for it a few hours later and it was still going, near the end of it I think. I went backstage. Someone turned off the light to the hall, so it was darkness apart from the stage. Someone was singong, and a heap of other people were arseing around behind her. So i went on, and flashed my arse to the hall. I didn't know there was anyone there; apparently there was about 50 people out there. The next minute I was in the Deputy's office. I had to go & tell trhe head the next day. I bet it's difficult enough for the hard kids, but it was me that got a rollicking. I honestly thought, by the way he was speaking, I was getting thrown out. I got off with being banned from the show, but he did speak as if I was being expelled. I'm going to have to go now. Have a nice sleep, or day,whatever it is. Hi There, Local venue The Army & Navy lists amongst the gigs by Wishbone Ash & endless tribute bands one on October 9th by Snow Patrol, supported by Cut The Rock & "Belle & Sebastian DJ's". Does anyone know more about this? Are Richard & Beans maybe out on the road with Snow Patrol? Hello sinister, long time since i've sat down and written to you. I finally figured out how to sync all of my email folders to my palmpilot. Do you know what this means? It means that i now read all of my email. For example, today is sunday, and i neither have work nor school, so i woke up on my own, without the aid of an alarm clock. My trusty palm was sitting beside my bed, all full up with email downloaded from the previous night. So do you know what i did? I read my mail in bed. How fantastic. Although i'm kind of hungry, i'm still in bed and i don't really feel like getting up yet. So i may just sit here and read. Have any of you ever read any of the "i am a cat" books by soseki natsume? They really are fantastic. Turn-of-the-century (19th-20th, that is) japanese satire written from the viewpoint of a cat with no name. I think the word "twee" was probably created to describe these books specifically. On the other hand, though, i might get out of bed and watch fight club. I'm not really sure why, but i love that movie. It might have something to do with the line about marla being like the cut on the roof of your mouth that would heal if only you would stop tongueing it. On to more sinister-related stuff. Will Salt wrote in response to a post about brand-spanking-new trains falling off the tracks to let us know it was intentional, and the brakes didn't work. I just wanted to say that i liked the story better when the trains couldn't stay on the tracks for more than 100 yards. It reminded me of that little man on the tricycle on laugh-in that would ride onscreen then fall over. And, last but not least, i was wondering if any of you chicagoland sinisterines would be interested in a meetup sometime. My darling Sinister, I am back! Yeah! I missed all your posts so much! So many things happened in those two last months and I've got plenty to tell you! I will be nice and use that "little title" method so if you are not really interested you can avoid some bits or the whole post :) -Mexico- Mexico was ace. It was the best holidays I've ever had, really. I could go on and on during hours on everything I saw, everyone I've met, and all my discoveries but you might find it a bit boring :). Anyway I've you want more details and/or pics you know where to find me. -Barcelona, take 1- After all that travelling, I didn't even had time to say hello to my mum and I was off to Barcelona. 10 hours of train (better than flying but still...), a torture, as I ended up on the 7th hour without any battery in my MD. I thought I'd die but finally no. Barcelona is SO nice. The city is beautiful, it's warm, people are nice and I might even learn some words of catalan. (I might, be careful) -Barcelona and fellow listees- Well, as any well-educated sinistereen, I phoned Mr Jordi after getting there. And I've even met him. (here I see some people getting jealous) Which was really nice. Then he promised to introduce me to Mr Miller, but well it seems that Mr Miller is away for the week-end or doesn't answer the phone. Argh. So I'll make this official: Mr Miller, are you up for a drink? I'll be nice and polite and I won't take a picture of you unless you want to (even if some listees offered me indecent amounts of money for your pic) -Barcelona and the Independent Music Festival- As I am a lucky person I arrived on time to enjoy that lovely festival. Which has been a success so far... On Friday night we saw Baxendale! I must apologise here to Erica, Han and all Baxendale fans for all I previously said: they rock. The gig was really really good, I danced all around and enjoyed myself so much. I also discovered I had a crush on Alex, but then Trousers told me he's got a girlfriend, and "she is a cutie", he said. So am I :). But I bet poor Alex doesn't know it. Argh. Life is unfair. On Saturday we saw Piano Magic, and it was pretty cool, and The Mongolfier Brothers, who were very very good. Not dancing all around the place, but well I am not only a soul girl, after all :) Tonight is the last night, but my God what a night! The Bluetones, Sexy Sadie, The Satellites are playing. So I think I will enjoy myself once more. How cool is life these days...Well apart from the fact I am still homeless, but music feeds me, you know. Well that is it for today, don't expect me to be so talkative next time, but well it has been a while...
