Whatever happened to students drinking student drinks, in my day it was all snakebite and cheap lager, no wonder they're always complaining about being skint ;) It's true about those stars of track and field you know, looks like quite a few of them fell out the ugly tree and hit all the branches! Seems like Loneliness of a Middle Distance Runner was written with Britain's middle distance runners in mind seeing as how most of them spend most of the race 10 metres behind the leaders! It's strange how many B&S songs could relate to the Olympics, here's a few I thought of... Expectations: What all the Olympic athletes start out with. Sinister: Did you miss me?

Hullo, I used to be smiley(a)rebelmonkey.freeserve.co.uk, but I'm not anymore. So, I figured this'd make a good excuse to post. Like, a second introductionary post. Or something. So... now I'm, like, a proper student and stuff. At Sheffield Uni, which is grate. And stuff. So I moved into this flat, which is fabbo, with some reasonably fabbo people. And the flat, in decor, is a bit cold war nuclear installation, but I don't mind that. We're all terribly nice and sensible in our flat, we do each others washing up. Next door they drink unbeliveable quantities of alcohol, and there's this lad next door called Tarquin, and he's about 7 foot tall and rather bulky, and he wears a big black coat and has candles and stuff. And, um, yeah he threatened one of his flatmates with a meat cleaver, which was a jolly good laugh. For us next door, anyway. But then we don't live with him. So I'm, like, really domesticated now. So far I've even done two loads of washing, and even some ironing. And yesterday I ate some vegetables, which was an interesting experience. I'm somewhat insulted by my timetable, which tells me that I don't have any work to do, basically. Well, you see most of my modules are in the spring semester, and this is quite definitely autumn (he says glancing at the gloomy Sheffield outside). Oh yeah, and now I have to go phone the breakdown people, because my car has a flat tire. It's going to be quite embarrassing, because I think I just let it down when I hit the curb, so maybe it just needs pumping up. Thing is, I don't have a pump. So now I have to phone the breakdown service and get the nice man to come out here with his van full of special anti-breakdown equipment, and generally waste his time. That's quite enough from me, I would imagine, Love Mike :o) PS. Since I've moved email addys, have I lost my list crush? Sinister: waiting for october...

hmmm... in pittsburgh, it is dreary 8/10ths of the time. not rainy necessarily, but overcast, much like today, though drizzley bits made my hair all curly a couple of hours ago, to my great distress. the point is, most of those non-dreary days seem to fall in October, y'know that sky you get? it's always a little bluer b/c of the changing trees and it's all crunchy, not like a hippy, crisp. you can breath, even smoking seems clean. i want to go on a hay ride and feel appropriately dressed in sweater/jacket/scarf attire, but not wet and grey, the jacket is grey, the sky is blue, not vice-versa, 'kay? mmm. fall, the best season of the year and so far, 4-5 days into it all, and it has been not up to snuff. i'm writing a letter to complain. speaking of not up to snuff, b&s tour of the US, what's up? that is for the content part, i heard last year that they were going to be here sometime, and i have not heard a thing. i am out of the loop. i think you guys are probably the loop, so hook me up on all the news. no wait, i'll just check the archives. ummm... so anyway i was 'brand new shoes', sam, that's me. i left the list for a while to travel, then got lazy when i came back from the trip, where i saw all you kids, well some of you: paul, elena, alex, erica, um, others from the baxendale show, and of course, miss kalliope. for those who don't know... they are fabulous people. i miss them all loads. i am not going to give much personal update b/c that would be super dull. i'll just say a few developements in my life: graduated from CMU, BFA, Administrative staff head at the AAP gallery in pittsburgh, new band is fab, new practice space and studio too, moving to berlin in the forseeable future, cats are healthy, single, like long walks on the beach and sunsets. umm, everything up through 'single' at least. hmm, okay, that's enough for now. i'm dreadfully tired so i am going to go home and curl up with the kittens until i go to work. is my picture still up on the site? i will have to check. i need to update it. anyway much love to all you kids sam ps: just saw Joan of Arc a little while ago, they are still amazing. tim's lyrics floor me. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Hi Sinister people, I need help!!!! The Go Betweens are touring with good old Yo LA TAngo in November in The States, and I am having a hard time finding tour dates outside of NYC and Boston. I would love to get some dates, because well shows like this rarely if ever happen, but seem to be happeing alot recently. (Ie Ida with Low, what is next B&S w/Sea and Cake, who knows?). But the point is I need dates...so I can plan ahead, yeah its near finals but this type of tour NEVER happens(or does very rarely). Somebody HELP!!!! yes, well, begin with the tragic, i always say: i went to bumbershoot in seattle and all i got was this lousy 3-day hangover. ah, no, of course not - there was more. but i did manage to *not* get into the magnetic fields show. and i did manage to weep (silently, and along with 500 others who were turned away when the (indoor!) venue filled up. at the time it was tragic, but it's been downgraded to simply sad now.) then i drank some beer, and things got so much better! we got to see sleater-kinney and also ronnie spector the next day, and they were wonderful and amazing. other things i did not see: fellow sinister-types. and i even wore my stow shirt (and on sunday, a 'vote nader and laduke' sticker*). you were nowhere (and everywhere...) i'm thinking about going to terrastock in november. steven kado has been stealing my spotlight. all my life... i've just realized this and am now on the verge of boarding a charter flight across the country to put an end to it. why can't you just go back to reading proust and stop being so bluddy convergent? here's the thing: *i* watched 4-plus hours of 'queer as folk' yesterday too. and *i* got elbowed by old chinese ladies in chinatown while trying to buy strange looking fruits. not that this matters anymore; it's been said before. etc. etc. etc. but i bet kado didn't watch lars von trier's 'the element of crime' last night, and even if he did, it couldn't have been accompanied by a live musical score, nor could it have been held in a theatre that became progressively hotter despite the fact that warm bodies kept leaving. there was also a shared pomegranate. which made things, really, a lot better than they could have been in the pomegranate's absence. (it's strange; i have never purposely meant to watch a lars von trier movie, no, they just happen to me. suddenly i'm in a place and a lars von trier movie comes on. sneaky.) (also, pomegranates are the popcorn of the fruit world.) so, i liked this movie because it involved hypnotism and left me feeling, well, humid and grimey. i think it was about subjectivity. but maybe i'm wrong. lar dee lar lar(s). thoughts? steve also said the word "rad", which has been hanging around me a lot lately. in fact, someone i hadn't seen for two years said to me just the other day, "you cut your hair, it looks rad." which made me smile and say "aaww gee, thanks." the word "dude" is also common lately, but then it never really left, did it. i also quite miss ghd. Ian N. spoke of his nearsightedness and recognizing complete strangers. the opposite of which is being near-sighted and recognizing people you know and trying to avoid them only to have them recognize you and then you mutter 'oh, i don't have my glasses on, didn't know it was you, ha ha ha, etc.' only to realize you actually *do* have your glasses on. at which point you can legitimately act psychotic. jen's 3-foot doll is scaring me from all the way across an ocean and a large country. i thought they stopped making those dolls when one appeared with glowing eyes in a horror movie. once things appear in horror movies they should cease existing. like sharks. and the dark. i'm off to make a horror movie about the olympics now. outta your mind, robyn (*in the spirit of my new political movement, sure to shake the earth or at least the soil around my apartment building, "canadians for nader". yes, you can see the sub-headlines: "currently supporting nader are michael moore, the united electrical workers and the country of canada!") Sinister: The circus ass is feeling melancholy

Dear Sinisters, I was discharged from the nursery some days ago, but I haven't introduced myself yet. So... here I am. I'm twenty-one, from Rome, and my B&S "experience" is real recent actually. What more...? There's a circus in fromt of my house. Actually there's the elementary school I used to attend about a century ago in front of my house. Beside my old school there's a farm, or something like that, with pink walls, green windows and a dark red roof. A grassland surrounds this farm, where you can see sheep feeding if you're lucky, which is funny in a way, 'cos it's true I live in the suburbs, but not *that* suburbs.:-) Anyway, the people running the farm have let their grassland to a circus these days. Living so close to it, I can hear every single noise coming from the circus, which is rather ennerving if you ask me, 'cos I have to spendhome most of my time for studying. The oddest noise is the sad, piercing braying of an ass. I was wondering what an ass can do in a circus actually. Oh well... Sinister: I'm every woman, it's all in me!

Hello! Here I am again, back from my ho-li-day, which, seeing as I am a student and therefore need my rest, was three munfs long. Blimmin 'eck. I wasn't too bored though, for I spent a whole munf in Tenerife, saving the whales, which was dead ace. "Quick he's drowning! Throw me the water wings!" That was fun, and while I was there, the crew of the boat I was on taught me the dance to a song called La Bomba. BOOMMBBBAAAAA! I had to stand at the front of the boat when that song came on and wiggle my little bottom at the tourists, trying to get them to dance along, which they rarely did. It was fun, though and it was sunny and I got tanned to the tips of my toes. I arrived home, thinking things were going to be really dull, working as usual at the petrol station in Kidderminster, when a bunch of greasy hoons decided to block the petrol supplies and I found myself on the front line of a national catastrophe! "Man the pumps!" "No, don't pump the man!". It was my job to run around in the little yellow "Emergency Vest" and direct traffic and work out if that man really is a policeman like he says or if he's just wearing an important looking hat. Things are back to normal now, and the petrol station became boring again, so it's quite nice to be back here. It was good to be able to jump on a bus or a bike for a while without any cars about, though. Stuart Murdoch has just joined our indie music club here at Nottingham. Sinister: Back in Norfolk... ooh dear...

hi all, I tried to read the three sinner digests in my inbox, but to be honest, I am drunk and I got lost between words. It all looked nice though. So well done all the past three day posters for making pretty posts. Maybe when I can read it coherently I can pass judgement on its content or at least "absorb" it. Sorry Honey, I promise I won't judge content, I really won't. shall absorb it only. I am back now in Norwich at uni. Met my flatmates, who seen normal and nice and cool, and let me smoke to my hearts content and talk rubbish and stuff. All the things my ex flatmates didn't like. But I think I would have gotten on better with Hitler and Mousolinni last year. Excuse spelling, but there is a Smirnoff Ice promotion at the union bar and its only costing like a quid a bottle. I am wearing my magic study at stow t shirt, and so far someone asked if it was a refernce to stowmarket. Which I think is where illegal ravers and horse racers hang out. So i explained briefly to him, and he still looked none the wiser. Yeah, so this is day three of drinking. and day two of hangovering. And I love it! I feel better! i FEEL happier, expect for yesterfday when I missed my boyfriend cos I had a bad dream. And I want to sort everything out I need sorting out. I want to start the social buttering and flying, which so far is easy, as I meet my pals, and we celebrate being back at uni and I get hammered every time. And I saw my teachers and they looked happy with me. Especially when i TOLD them how much of my essay I have started (multipy actuality by two) and they were so impressed. Ah, lies impress people. Plus the mean dean is gone, so we can run riot til she reappears and gives us the look that makes us scurry off with good intentions to hide. My room is luvely. It is. I have a balcony and everything and a window bench the width of the room and a humungous wardrobe. Its really humungous. really!!! really really!! And I live in a moderately dodgy area, but not as dodgy as dodgy scottish places. But it has a newagent, and a church, and a bus stop, and trees, and a pavement, and a road, and a village hall. and a local pub where the locals scowl at you, so I think I'll avoid that. And vandalised public phones too. I feel so at home. It could be Livingston. Apart from all the livvy schemies with their ability to turn all vowels into "u". Nor do they wear russell athletic jumpers and chew gum between glossy red licorcice lips. I met people too. SHALL tell all when I am sobered. Anyway darlings. Any UEA'rs here may contact me. ummm...welcome to another shitty monday morning... just another reminder to all those still in school... do well...i'm reminded every monday morning that i wish i was smarter and did better in school...this work thing blows... ummm...that wasn't very nice, but i'm another faceless corporate whore and i hope to save others from being trapped here... there's a little sinister toronto boy who was at blow up on saturday that i sadly missed meeting, i think his name is derek...he introduced himself to my friend, beth, who had a 3..6..9...badge on, right-side up. she told me all about it but sadly i didn't run into you again...i was wearing my ampersand shirt, i thought that wearing a badge as well might have been a little overkill...plus that place intimidates me so much, i didn't wanna stand out. was visiting the strange land that str8 families usually occupy and had a loverly time. went to medieval times on saturday, b4 blow up...it was the previously mentioned girl's birfday and 17 of us were cheering on our valiant yellow night...he died. i'd been to one of these places in nj, and it was no way as violent as this one...us violent candadians... ummm...then went to a bluejay game...my mother has decided that my father and my bf should start trying to be civil towards each other...the action in the stands was much more interesting than the lousy baseball game... bye for now... ab.
