Sinister: connecting to freeserve

hello nothing in particular I want to go to #sinister chat but I'm waiting for off-peak freeserve to connect, which may or may not happen what I've just done I went to a writer's group this evening: I had to really force myself out the door because it's 'dreich' (wet) outside, and was already starting to get dark. But If I'd stayed in I'd have ended up partaking of too much Kirsch, which would be bad news tomorrow. I'm drinking one now, but it's 22:31. The writer's group was fun: there's something particularly engaging about well-written poems and stories being read by their authors: then you get the chance to slag them off! Hehe. Naughty me, I haven't written a thing yet except 'critic proof critic' in invisible letters. The computer you are dialling is not answering. Try again later. You'll realise by this point that I don't have much to say, but I like a bit of typing now and again to occupy my fingers: at work I use computer aided design, which is mostly mouse-play. It's a recalcitrant mouse too: a real cheapo number that doesn't like getting clicked and frequently ignores me. John Peel speaks Sumerian On the spot reportage of radio one at 22:42 on the 26th September 2000. Following this is a kind of thrash metal track with a man trying to sound mean and frightening. It doesn't work. Peely made a phonetic effort with the title, but as to the veracity of the phonemes, well, I lack comparitives. Big words made easy Most big words are wee words strung together with choice letters missing and no spaces in-between. The Germans seem to specialise in this area. I ought to finish with a joke Mmm, I *ouught* to, but as usual I'm setting myself up for failure as I can't think of any; me being a dour man in a dreich place at night (nice little church candles glowing though) so there's laziness for you and anyways, I'm pondering on one, or making up a topical one involving drugs and athletes when I finally get connected. Kisses, kisses, etc. Well now. I've never posted from school before so this is a Big! Event! for me. I thought there were a few things worth addressing before I start out here. Let us do a Fun! List! 1) S. Cado, I hope you aren't getting cocky (*ahem*) because I haven't posted in a bit. I am still here, and I am still full of nudity challanges. 2) Miss Lauren, welcome welcome, we all love you. 3) Autumn! I like to call it fall, because that's what it does- makes everything tumble down. Leaves, spirits, erm...other things that I can't think of...I like it though. Today I went to the campus BBQ stand and bought a Hot Dog and a Coke and sat on a bench pretending that it was summer (it's sunny after all), just with dying trees. It didn't really work, but the hot dog was yummy. No- that's a lie. I hate hot dogs and I threw it out after a couple bites. 4) There is no four but I am obsessive compulsive and I need to do things in groups of four. If you are industrious do a character count on my posts and you'll find that the result is invariably a multiple of four. Neat, huh? So, what have I been up to? No, I doubt you're really asking that, but hey- why don't I tell you anyway? The highlight of my week (and possibly my life) came on Saturday or Sunday- I don't really remember. I ordered a pizza for the same Princess Starry Sarah* that taught honeybuns to say "flu" in French. Now, why is this a highlight? Let us discuss! I live in Michigan, USA. She lives in Europe or something. So I ordered a pizza from another country! Transatlantic pizza, whoo-hoo! "Hello...um...where are you calling from?" "erm...far away..." "*silence*" "The United States..." "Uh, can you hold?" Highlight number Two! (two, two, two [fading echo]) I moved the furniture in my room around. Now I can stand in front of my window (naked) and dance. Oh, my, how the evenings fly by (any curious Michigan listees- I can give you my address if you'd like to stand in the street and admire; I always leave the light on)! Do you know that sometimes eating a hot dog can make you feel sick? I do. But listen- the voice from the ceiling says ELECTRONIC BOOKS ARE NOW AVAILABLE!! I wonder if they have erotica? Mmmmm... Now I leave you with a short story from my days. Last night was cold. I wanted a cigarette. I didn't feel like getting dressed so I just draped a quilt over my body and wandered outside. I walked a little ways down my block and then stumbled on a crack in the sidewalk. My precious quilt came tumbling down, revealing, well, all of me. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but there was an elderly man walking a short distance behind me. Oh, how he blushed! I thought he was going to just kick over. Am I fooling any of you? Ah, you lot know me too well. There was no crack in the sidewalk. I just wanted to uplift my spirits by flaunting my beautiful youthfulness in front of the old chap. Well, excuse me! B&S content: I have a B&S tattoo somewhere in my bathing suit areas, which the old fellow most certainly saw. Well. I haven't posted in nigh on five weeks methinks. it's about time I came back to the warm fluffy sweater that is Sinister. first off....back in school and loving it/hating it every other second. i've already been informed that three (and possibly more) girls have crushes on me, which is disconcerting. Something like this tends to toy with one's self image. Good Morning Sinister types, I have had my necessary 2 1/2 cups of coffee and the world is looking wonderful... a little jittery maybe, but wonderful. How nice that all the students are back. I have this mental image of British student life being like the Young Ones. Every flat must have a hippie, mod, punk, and socialist poet. Fantastic. The hi jinks and hilarity must then ensue. Wacky. I'm a very happy girl here at music college. I think it's because 80-90% of the student population is boys. I got winked at 3 times yesterday, it was very flattering. I mean I *was* looking fantastic and sparkly as usualy... <cough> Actually, I try to avoid those who have the, uh, stench of desparation about them. The downside to music college is that my vocabulary of words that I say has gone downhill. Very downhill. My speech has recently been punctuated with phrases like, "Yeah, man" "You know, whatever" and "Check out the bass line in this jam." To remedy this, I went to get my library card. It was great fun. The Boston Public Library is huge. I went and wandered through the stacks...until I became panicked and picked up the first thing I could think of, Lovecraft. I Love Lovecraft because my dreams aren't scary enough on their own (mostly just my teeth falling out). I need stories of mutated fish towns and inbred molemen from West Virginia to keep me sane. (There is also the very scary and horrible Sting song that is following me around. I'm afraid of what it will do if it catches me. Apparently my name is appearing in people's inbox's as 'nicolson ian', which is somewhat distrubing as I have no idea why this has happened and people may now think that I have a back-to-front name, like Little John or Wyndham Lewis or someone. I shall have to try to rectify this. Or maybe I should adopt it as a cunning pseudonym. Given away free (whoo-hoo!) with this weeks supposedly soon to be defunct Sunday Herald was one of these student guides which appear in their hundreds around this time of year. Interspersed throughout it were little pieces by various movers and shakers recommending places to visit in the teeming metropolis' (metropeli?) of Glasgow, Edinburgh and, er, Stirling. Featured in the Glasgow section was our very own Stuart, so in an attempt to break with tradition and actually post something relevant to Belle & Sebastian (who?), and because it's quite short, I've decided to type it out for y'all. Aren't I kind? So, for all you young hipsters new to Glasgow, or indeed any long-time denizens of that fair city who fancy trying out the wild, wild lifestyle of an international rock 'n' roller, here it is! ---------------------- INSIDER INSIGHT Even sensitive indie pop stars need to cut loose once in a while. As the Olympics are only held every 4 years and the list was officially 3 a few short weeks ago it's no surprise everyone's taken to the Sydney Games like little fluffy ducklings to water. Someone recently pointed out how misleading the line about "stars of track and field being beautiful people" is and I think I'm going to have to agree, although I'd admit that the "stars of track" are usually more beautiful than the "stars of field" so it's probably not fair to group them together like that. IF IYFS gets a re-release I think the track listing should be amended : 1. The Stars of Track & Field* 2. Seeing Other People *excluding certain events that involve the chucking of heavy objects over great distances. Up and coming "Stars of Track and Field" are also a bit strange. When I was about 14 I remember the annual school sports day being lifted to a whole new level when a classmate started taking it all very seriously and turned up fully equipped for the days competition. Most of us were happy to swan around in our baggy cotton shorts and ill fitting T-shirts, making a feeble effort in the 4 events (minimum) we were expected to participate in and generally think ourselves lucky not to be stuck in a hot classroom doing *real* work. Then big Malc and his wee bag of goodies came along and changed all that, you see not only did he have fancy spiky running shoes, shimmery nylon clothes but he'd also brought along his own starting blocks and javelin. Boy did we feel inadequate !.... well those of us who weren't elsewhere savoring the delights of the senior girls high jump final. Good luck with the sit-up-athon Lucy, you'll be folding origami animals with your steely six-pack abs before you know it !. Not much of a post, sorry. Sinister: Just grab your hat, we'll travel light, that's hobo style

Hello you lovely bunch of people I decided to wear high heels to work today. As Vivian says in Pretty Woman, "Big mistake. Huge." I quite often wear heels at work, but usually the sensible fraction of my brain reminds me to wear trainers for the fifteen minute march at either end of my train journey and change at the office. Not today though, oh no. I've now lost all feeling in four of my poor little tootsies. Not only that, but my stomach muscles are killing me too. This isn't for the usual reason (alcohol-induced illness), but because of my extreme jealousy of Denise Lewis' six-pack. Did you see it? Non-UK and non-Olympics-obsessed people, she won the gold medal in the Heptathlon. Who said stars of track and field are ugly? Denise isn't! She's so toned, so gorgeous, so lovely and I'm so envious. 'Well,' I thought, 'there's only one thing to do. Sit-ups'. I waited until my flatmate was out so he couldn't laugh at me, then got on with it. Surprise! No pain! Until the next day, that is, when I had far too much trouble getting out of bed. I think I'll just sit in a chair for the rest of my life and paint my nails and watch telly. It's much safer. Have you all been and had a look at the Sinister photo pages? There are lots and lots of Red Knickers Day shenanigans. The memories just came flooding back... Hey, watch out Glaswegians, I'm planning a trip in your direction in a few weeks and you WILL come drinking with me. You WILL! Mwah ha ha! There seem to be many more spiders webs than usual this autumn. Last weekend, I saw six of them on the way home, stretched between bushes and covered in dew, glistening under the orange street lamp. The spiders themselves seemed very fat and well-fed, unlike the miserable specimens I found lurking in my bed the other night. I pulled back the duvet to climb under and two skinny little albino spiders came running out. Albino spiders! Hens' teeth! I brushed them onto the floor and tried to forget they were there because they gave me the willies. Hopefully I didn't eat one during the night, because I heard the average person eats several during their lifetime. Yuck. That's all for now. ... actually, the Australians rule the (Olympic) pool, but since British Monarchy still rules Australia (wooo... how controversial am I?), we rule the pool by association. It's been a while since I posted, but all this talk of Sinister Olympics (see David White - circa 20 mins ago), has got me going wild with verbal excitement...
