Sinister: Paul Bear-slice and the Temple of Doom

I'll explain about the subject header later... *evil laugh* First off, it has been 7 weeks (ish) since my last post, and I must confess to many a sin. For those of you who don't know, for some of the time I've been in America visiting the wondrous artsydeco(a)aol.com. More wondrous is the girl in the flesh than she is on the computer. I'm certainly very excited about her mix tape, and about the fact she's visiting little old England in less than a month. If anyone is having any picnics during the later part of august I'll bring her along. Secondly, and possibly the thing I got most excited about was the message from Honey, saying "Poor Aunt Sadie in the chatroom suffered a fall too, but she has had a hip replacement, for those who have met her and may be concerned. " I'm unsure about whether I'm right or not, but this may well have been a cryptic reference to THE HIP REPLACEMENT E.P by EUROSEXUALS. It may not be, but something_sinister said she was spreading the word in #sinister, so I live in hope. So, that's www.bondynet.demon.co.uk/eurosexuals , if anyone is interested. Despite what the website says, it is ready, and will be shipped as soon as possible. Apologies for the blatent plug. As far as the subject header is concerned, Paul Bear-slice is my new favourite name. It came from a mis-hearing of 'Polar Bear Fight', and is undoubtedly wonderful. A story entitled 'Paul Bear-slice and the Wolf' has already been written, and I'm sure more Bear-slice inspired things will follow. In reference to the ongoing Isobel debate... while in America I came up with a theory that Isobel is in-fact a foul temptress of the lowest kind. This theory is concurred with by the wonderful Kara, and is therefore passed into the annals of fact. Anyway, just think of the gentle waves stuff you've heard. Most of it seems to scream 'Look at me, I'm really really really cute and innocent and lovable". The fact that doing this all the time usually makes it sound shit doesn't really bother her as long as it's getting the me ssage across. Added to this, 'Swansong for You' (as well as playing the old pop trick of making out that she's singing a song to YOU) has a picture of her stroking a CAT on the front. How much more 'I'm innocent and sweet, please love me' can you get? Anyway, I always pictured Mr. Murdoch falling hook line and sinker for that, and trailing around after her like a love sick puppy while she has him unclogging drains, changing her tyres, cleaning out her hamster and various other non-twee activities. And all the while she's screwing the milk-man on HIS piano (hence the sweat)! It's sick. So far It's kept me interested for about 30 pages - largely due to some impressive banana-related passages that made me hungry - and I fear I may finish it. I doubt if I can be bothered to Report Back when I do. Daniela said: "I love Sundays. I love cold mornings" I love Sundays more than I love The Sundays but not as much as I love cold sundaes. It took me a long time to get used to them since for years they used to remind me of avoiding unfinished homework by watching Howard's Way. hey US TOUR Just wanted to say that Im planning to attend all the us tour gigs. If anyone else is thinking the same, send an email my way. Im in Michigan and will be driving, so this is basically an offer to pick up the coolest people, sinister listees of course, on my way west. A bit premature-we dont even know the dates yet, you say. I suppose that Im just HYPED about quitting my job and seeing Belle & Sebastian and having a wild time. Kyra: Im not too loud, thats about all the caps I could handle, oh well maybe a few more. For those of you choosing to fly, instead of driving with me *BOO*, travelocity.com has some good bargains to San Francisco and ?? (like $200 from chicago & the east coast). A MIDWEST PICNIC I still consider myself a newish listee, but Im taking the lead and SERIOUSLY suggesting a picnic PARTY in the wisconsin, chicago, michigan, and indiana area. Yes, I realize that this is a large geographic area. But.any ideas are welcome. Once I tally where all you guys are, we can decide on the locale(s). I RECOMMEND OhGrs Welt CD: whether you like electronica or not, its fascinatingly GREAT, especially Pore. THE LAST WORD ON PB its yummy. and marshmallow fluff is on any supermarket shelf in the US,and used to make delightful things like my grandma's PB and choc fudge. Its vegetarian unlike regular marshmallows. And its most often produced by a company that makes their millions off other highly-processed foods, like one-minute macaroni and powdered cheese. Yes, this is capitalism. I have no editter, and I have never been a major in the english party. I thought that was witty, but perhaps not. I was told I was an idealist, so I looked up the exact meaning of an 'ideal' - something that exists only in the mind without fault or a conception embodying perfection. Are all b&s fans idealists to some extent? This is no declaration etc. Well actually it is, and I hope you all pick up on that little pun, you being my honorary lovers and presumably you will be reading this in some version of Windows unless you like penguins anyway... I wouldn't normally crowd your inboxes so frequently but most people seem to be playing boring buggers and there is a distinct lack of posts, probably because sinister officially dislikes summer and so do I. Cause I did eventually get a job, but I have to get up at six. I'm supposed to be on hols. But that's life. There has been some fire in the sinister belly recently (another bad pun, this boy's on form tonight) with the harshest fighting talk I ever did hear coming from Mr. Jonathan Howell: I sincerely hope you know PF personally, Mr Howell, because if someone accused ME of being a closet Mills and Booner I'd fly into a rage and drop big boxes of Ian Banks books on their house. Anyway, my declaration: (I had two but I've forgotten one, ach, it'll come to me) I'm sticking up for Isobel. saccharine , yes, asthmatic hamster, yes, relatively ample behind, certainly, but Family Tree is nice, you can't pretend it isn't. And she easily gets away with the ample behind. I think she remains really sweet and still a good musician, and I'd share my ribena with her anytime, providing she asked nicely and promised not to drink it all. Well maybe I'd let her drink most of it, but only if I had another. Well, she could drink it all if she asked really nicely and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I know why there are frequent comments, though, (excluding the fact that a fair amount of the Gentle Waves stuff really does suck and blow at the same time) and the reason is this: I bet loads of you were in love with her until you heard her comments about your stinky teddybears that you'd sent, which turned her into your mortal enemy and makes you feel guilty because you know that Little Paws is rotting in a landfill site. My new thing to hate:critics. Especially the media variety. Because, someone works hard on a film, puts years into it, a lot of money, a lot of time, and voila! An hour and a half sat in front of it munching free company snacks and shifting about on their big fat arses, and suddenly the critic has hundreds of suggestions and thinks they could do better themselves. Come on, constructive criticism, it's not in any way constructive, because it's totally ignored. If the cinematographer or producer or whatever does much the same thing again but better, using the constructive criticism, then it's not original, which will in turn gain a slating. It is, as everyone keeps mentioning, ages since Mr. Miller posted but we wait eagerly in anticipation... Which reminds me, saw a good t-shirt the other day, it was for the sheffield film unit and it said, "how will the film unit conspire to bollocks things up this time?" "We wait with baited breath..." Does anyone else get "hippy" and "peace, man!" yelled in there faces when they are out in corduroy flares and diamond print tank top? Hmm. pointing and giggles Tom P.S. : I know it's a long shot but will anyone be in Newquay (Fistral) the week following August 18th? If so, paint "sinister" across your face and wave a large flag. P.P.S. Sinister: ADMIN: Sometimes Bad Things Happen All At Once

If Pooh Bear didn't ever say that he should have. The more perceptive or bored amongst you will have noticed that the Sinister archives on the web site fell in a heap sometime last week. The space to house these archives and the facilities which allow my held-together-with-string software to run are kindly lent from another site (nodata.org) and that site has had a hard disk failure, a fact that rather sort of underlines its choice of domain name in red and puts a ring round it. Poor Aunt Sadie in the chatroom suffered a fall too, but she has had a hip replacement, for those who have met her and may be concerned. Eek, as I typed that very sentence I've just realised that means the photo galleries have disappeared too and goodness knows what else, so I'll have to go back and add to the web page. As Miss Print, I should also assure the managers of other lists at that live missprint.org that I'll try and knock things back to into shape when I'm able. I'm sorry about this, and would suggest if you can't get to the archives and want to read the list then to subscribe for now, but I have a suspicion that there's a logic problem involved somewhere in making that suggestion in this mail. Anyway. When poor Heath who kindly lends this space has (I hope) restored or replaced the disk, I'll set about restoring the archives from copies, and meantime I'll work on the photo galleries. The list will continue to work as usual, so don't worry about mails being lost. I have backups and currently believe none of your photos are lost, and am quite sure none of your past mails are ok, so don't start hoping that the embarrassing things you said about Jethro Tell in 1997 are gone. No way. Restoring the archives will take some time - last time we moved it took weeks, due to various geeky reasons, and I have no reason to believe these won't occur again, being a follower of the deterministic materialistic school of philosophy, should it actually exist. A lot more people have mailed me for stuff that the surrogate list mummy Linda can't do and I have to, and they will have to be patient souls, as always, but more so, because I am not feeling very chipper after the wild sex-crazed drug-mashed time I had at all those concerts (staying up til 12:30am, eating crisps, etc.). * All Your Basses Are Belong To Us * On the subject of Jethro Tull, or thereabouts, Peter Miller and a few others have asked about Phil Lynott's perspex bass, supposedly in Stuart's possession, and whether it goes "bong". I am dismayed to inform you that sources in the palace have denied that fact that the bass was ever Phil's. I think they said it was a present from the band to Stuart though as prevously stated - aw. So sorry to be the bringer of bad news on both counts. Sinister: Such a perfect night

Hello Sinisters! Pleased to meet you all, and to share experiences and knowledge. It's great to be in contact with other fans, as here in Brazil there aren't many. Indeed, it is very rare to find a B and S fan. It is not going to be hard to find something to write about in my firs post. I had a great time last night, I think I should talk about it. I went to a place called Brit Café. The music there was awesome (according to my "british taste") and I was always talking to the Dj, telling him: "Some Belle and Sebastian now, please!" You may think I am an idiot, but that meant a lot to me. As well as "Supersonic" being played just after "She's losing it". When you have friends and good music around, what else do you need? Ok, a ride home. I'm not going to write too much, cause I have to write too much everyday and it is a cold Sunday morning here and life is calling me. I love Sundays. I love cold mornings. I love it when the Sunday morning calls. Oh, the day is grey and i will listen to some 80's pop right now and laugh a little bit. Have a nice day! Hello hello Soooo...picnic time has almost come. Where: in front of the Odeon Cinema on Parkway Road, out of Camden tube station, on the right side of the road. When: at 2 o'clock (but if you are 10 minutes late we will wait for you) How: you come along and spot me, I am short and French, I will have red shoes and a blue shiny handbag. Sinister: MUM cd, marmite & no surprises

1. oh QUICK! before i forget (i always forget. everything). uuuuuum... oh yeah - if the one who wanted to know where to get the MUM lp (well, CD, actually) is in London, thestoreiworkin (sigh...Virgin) has - fanfare - ONE copy! i know this cos i care for the "M" section. stop me if this gets too pathetic. oh. too late huh? 2. MARMITE! it's kinda like Tool (the band) really isn't it? in that you either LOVE it or just wanna destroy it. no fence sitting either way. oh - is that a tautology? i love tautologies. but only with great lashings of irony, of course. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. i guess b&s are a little like that too. and for the record, i love marmite (with cheese or eggs or BOTH!) , and i love tool and belle too. no surprises there then. but marmite from nz is yummier (yikes, here come the colonial wankerisms - DUCK!) cuz it's slightly less bitter and NOT runny. so THERE! 3. things are getting weird for me cuz i just heard the first isobel-thing that i didn't H!A!T!E! thanks for all your peel sesh offers. i've been too caught up in a sea of random cultural events this week to read any email until now. wednesday was tomb raider (i know it's lowest common denominator cinema but i kind of like having a common denominator with people sometimes, even if it is low. and angelina rocks.) then scrambled up into the realms of musical genius at a terry callier gig on thursday, before tumbling down again into my local sweaty cellar aka indie disco on friday. phew. anyway, turns out that david moore offered to do me a tape ages ago when i originally asked him, which makes sense really. somehow i (or my mail programme) had just not been paying attention. marmite on toast certainly features in my hangover cure. i always thought it helped because of the high salt content though. (the rest of the cure btw is 1 pint water + 1 black coffee + 1 banana - never fails.) but agh - blending the butter and marmite first to get an even spread?
