Some of my friends have copies of Tigermilk - well, Ben certainly
does, Rupert does (and only bought it in Feb. this year, can you
believe it?), and I think Steve might have. The worst thing is that
I almost bought a copy at the same time as Ben (rough trade shop in
Notting Hill, August '96) but didn't 'cos I was on the skint-ish
side and didn't realise it was so limited. When drunk I often cry
into my beer about it & bore those close to me.
Claims to fame. When I was at Manchester a few years ago I almost
knocked Liam Gallagher over in a pub. I was *very* drunk & at the
stage where I just thought "oh, pop star" and went back to my pint.
My rather more sober friend got very excited and bought him a drink.
Oh, and I saw Oasis support Dodgy in the Hop and Grape in 1993, but
that's not really a claim to fame, just a co-incidence. Other than
that I've hardly met anyone except the odd minor indie type. Though
I have got Ray Davies' authograph (v. embarrassing as I could only
stutter and look completely foolish).
Lucy
who may have to go digestive.

Greetings! I'm another new one here and I've been slightly overwhelmed by
all the e-mail I've been receiving from this list. But I don't mind really
cause it's about B&S.
About me...I'm 23 and currently a laboratory researcher (infinitely exciting),
but I'll be rejoining the ranks of students next autumn. I don't own
Tigermilk (wah), though I do have IYFS and 3 EPs. I won't bore you all to
tears about how much I love B&S or how I found out about them (partly because
they're rather mundane stories and mostly because I'm sure you've heard it all
before) but I will say that everyone I've ever introduced to B&S was almost
instantly smitten. Now that's good songwriting!
Claim to fame...well, I met Neil Hannon after a show he did here in
Washington D.C. - The DC in D.C. the show was touted as. I was the only one
in the small audience that cheered when he announced that his next song
would be about summertime and all the fun allergies that come with it ("The
pop singer's fear of the pollen count"). He looked at me quizzically and
asked "Madame, what are you so happy about?" I said that I was just
applauding
because I liked the song, not because he suffered from hayfever. I hadn't
meant any offense, really. After the show, I got his autograph on a fiver
(the only bit of paper I had on me at the time). He was a tad hesitant to
sign it at first - something about defacing currency being an offense in
England - but then gave in and even drew a squiggley mustache on the Queen
herself.
Oh yeah, I also once met Benjamin Orr of Cars fame at a 4th of July party
when I was about 10. He gave me a autographed dollar, but being a kid, I
spent it within a week. My older brother was infuriated with me. But what
did I know, I was only a kid.
Now a question for you all: the song "Seeing other people", I read in a
review a while back that it was about an adolescent gay boy and a straight
girl, but I've gone over the lyrics again and again and I still can't
understand where this reviewer could get that the boy was homosexual. Am I
missing something here? Or is the reviewer just off in the deep end?

OK - no more long Sarah messages please; slow down on the claims to fame,
partly because some people are taking them seriously; and no more football
only messages! Sorry to be Mr Grump but some people are getting fed up
with the low level of B&S content and there's a lot of people pulling out
and joining the digest or leaving. I mean to make sure this list survives
and has some sort of focus while staying fun and if it just dissipates
into masses of mail with no focus my server won't be able to keep up and
nor will I and the list may have to go one day. Remember: it's run in my
spare time and on the equipment of my employer.
And if some kind soul down south could volunteer to act as focal point for
the London meet rather then everything going out 330 times to the list?
You'll probably all hate me for this, and for God's sake don't stop having
fun on the list! I still appreciate complete bollocks as much as the next
dog... just... slow down!
Rotten tomatoes in this direction, not to the list,
Paul

This is my first message to the list and its in reference to ordering
merchandise from the B+S fanclub.
Having seen the merchandise available for B+S, which can be found on
the B+S official website, I was happy to order a couple of T-shirts.
I telephoned and paid by credit card and the process was simple and
accessable. Well this morning they arrived(exactly 1 week to the
day)and I am pleased to say that the T-shirts are excellent.
Why this message? I hear you all cry.........
-----------------
Well quite simply - the service was excellent and I wanted to repay the
swiftness and reliable handling with a big thumbs up.
Anyone with any doubts about this mail order service should think again
and lovingly investigate with open arms.
now what else should I order..............???

Has the list been VERY quiet or have i been moved to only getting the
digest version?
Anywho, i know someone with an original Tigermilk, Caitlin Moran who
used to write for Melody Maker has got a copy.
There, how many are accounted for now?

Hello
I saw someone who looked v. much like Dickon in Tower Records in
Camden on Saturday. But not wanting to prostrate myself in front
of a "name", I didn't say anything. :)
And the floor didn't look very clean.

Hello all,
And now for the intro proper...
After my little missive (and accompanying apology) a while back, and
what with the recent register mailings, I thought it about time I
contributed to the list again.
Age:19
Occupation: Another student, this time studying Linguistics, here at
the University of Essex, in Colchester.
Been into B+S since about September/October 1996, after hearing "Judy"
on Mark Radcliffe (who I have to thank for introducing me to the whole
of this type of music-more of that later). My favourite B+S song is
probably Judy, and I own IYFS and the 3 EPs (DOW-CD, LLPJ-CD,7,12,
369-CD,7,12).I saw the band live in Oxford in August, where I met
Katrina and David.
A quick little profile of what I listen to: (i'll try not to make this
too long, and I really hope no-body minds me doing this)
I've been listening to Hip-Hop for 8/9 years now, and UK Hip-Hop
exclusively for the last 4.
I've been into Jungle and Happy Hardcore since '95, and am a
semi-regular raver,
And basically have been into pop/rock/guitar music (call it what you
want, I don't think there's one unifying term to describe the music I
like outside of Hip-Hop and Hardcore dance) since about Sept. 1996. The
main bands I like in this genre are B+S (obv!!), Kenickie and the
Sneaker Pimps. But, since I started listening to these types of music,
my tastes have broadened significatly.
This month (well October/early Nov) I've bought Ash, The
Shirehorses,Dweeb, China Drum, B+S, plus various Hip-Hop and Jungle
singles and albums (this might give you lot a small idea of what I
like).
Anyway, you'll have to excuse me if this message rambles or is boring
or unimportant as I'm feeling highly unwell at the moment, and my brain
is absolutely swimming, as I've just had to sort my way through 215
messagesn (a whole lot for me), 99% of 'em from you lot.
Anyway, the London meet sounds great. Colchester is 50 mins. away, and
my home tome is Reading (a big HIYA! to Mussadiq, mail me privately if
you want to compare notes), so if it falls at a point when I'm home,
then that wouldn't be a prob.
So kids, that's about it, I'll speak to you all again soon (I promise,)
Love,
GIDEONxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi!
My Claim To Fame is nothing really:
When I was over in New York two months ago, I lived in the appartment of my
girlfriends friend and her boyfriend. They had had Carlos (not the
terrorist, but Madonnas stallion) visiting them one evening.
So I guess I ´ve been sitting in the same sofa as Carlos, and overflowing
the toilet which Carlos might have used!
Everybody go: Woooooooooooooow!!!
I also talked to Yngwie Malmsteens former drummer who had some EXCITING
stories to tell.
And I met Pavement on the latenight ferry from Helsingor to Helsingborg.
They were playing flipper.
And I´ve spoken to Stuart David for two minutes!!!!!!!!!!
HOW ABOUT THAT?

I don't know Jarvis Cocker, or Damon from Blur (tho I did see his willy
once in a bar in LA, cause he had a waz with the door right open...of
course I looked. sheesh. He didn't wash his hands either. Ew.) But in NYC,
Stuart Murdoch started chatting to me about my SFA patch on my jumper and I
went "um...ergh....ak....sputter....och......" Then smoothly added, as i'm
SO smooth...... "you're not a bloody HUN are you?" (NO OFFENSE TO YOU
RANGERS ON THE LIST...I SUPPORT ABERDEEN SO I *HAVE* TO HATE THE HUNS.)" He
started laughing and just looked at me like I was off my trolly....and said
"no..not really....I tend to support Celtic..." At least I THINK that's
what he said. My head was spinning and I was about to pass out.
But who wouldn't with a stuffy nose and a foot in their mouth?
fame indeed.
