Does anyone know, perchance, what venue B&S will be playing in
Manchester, or is that unconfirmed as yet as well?
Call me extremely ignorant, but are all B&S shows seated affairs, or
have they done any standing - only shows??
Just wondering...

Apologies for the number of blank emails appearing today - I'm
working on it. Suspect it was a full disk.
Also, I am becoming more cavalier about removing people from the list
whose messages bounce - I'm just getting too many of these to handle.
These people go on a separate list which tries to remail them when
their mail wakes up and tell them how to get back on.
It's usually the result of someone leaving an address without
unsubscribing - please try to remember. Occasionally it's due to a
mail misconfiguration at your provider (harrumph).
This list's really growing just now: 309 people! The approx split by
country can be seen from a link on the WWW page below.
Finally to all I haven't mailed who have mailed me - including Peter
"Rolf" Miller - I will!

You mean "Pop" doesn't derive from "popular" -- with the connotation of
accessibilty, rather than exclusivity?

I have just got back from a week in Dublin (I think I can still tastes the
Guinness) and we spent a not inconsiderable time checking out all the record
shops, and I didn't see one copy of 3,6,9... I had to wait until I got home
to Cheltenham. I think they mustn't have released it there. I did manage to
pick up a copy of The Corr's new album on the day of release (Friday, for
some reason) there though. I thought I had got it weeks before the UK
release, but in fact it was only 3 days early. Never Mind - I did get a
telecom eireann phone card that I can't use over here free with it, so that
obviously makes it all right.

Ah, but they were favourably reviewed on C4 Teletext (p.480+),
which (a) is a much better service and (b) has much better taste, no?

Paul Simon is a huge influence on Belle and Sebastian, and I credit this
reviewer for pointing it out. Paul Simon is a storyteller, a narrator and
Belle and Sebastian songs are full of narratives of a similar feel... I
feel like this puts them very lyrically influenced by Paul Simon. Nick
Drake's lyrics seem more full of self reflection and pictures being
painted. I am sitting here listening to the new Paul Simon record, songs
from his upcoming musical, "The Capeman" and some of these songs move me in
exactly the same way that Belle and Sebastian does. I urge you all to drop
any prejudices you may have, and give this record a listen when it comes
out next month. One of my favorite moments on IYFS, is "the snow is
falling" section at the end of Me and the Major which to me is more
reminiscent of Paul Simon than anyone else. Of course, when you discuss
artists that began recording in the mid sixties, like Bob Dylan, the
Beatles, and Paul Simon, their influences are so ingrained in every thing
we listen to that it does become a bit blurry. Sorry to go on and on but
the timing of this post coinciding with what I was listening to spurred me
on.
