Ah but Keith have you ever tried singing from the beginning of the chorus
after listening to La-La-La-Lies on The Who's My Generation album.
Unfortunately this is a song imprinted on my mind long before B&S came into my
life and I am now unable to even hum the chorus of The State I Am In without
it going wrong after the first line, leaving me unable to share this fine
refrain with my companions.
I'll demonstrate this affliction in The Egg next week if your Belle &
Sebastian "meeting" is still on?
David.

... because i know the best idea for promoting the next album. listen
up:
the first thousand copies come with a cd of tigermilk.....and only 1000
copies. no more. ever. that way we can get our hands on it, and it would
still remain a rare collectable sort of thing. i think i deserve a nobel
prize.
And I say that I am beginning to be really irritated with the whole
Tigermilk situation. Why would anyone *want* to have the thing staying
unavailable? I guess superbob's point is that he's irritated that he
doesn't have a copy but would be quite happy to get one and then pull
the ladder up beneath him. (I might have misunderstood here).
The fine efforts of Andy D (who did me my swiftly degrading tape) and
such fellows is great but not enough. These songs are just so good that
they deserve to go out to the people, and I know lots of B&S fans who
would never dream of getting onto a list like this. How the hell are
they going to hear it?
Or , despite all the happiness about the chart placing, would we all be
happier *really* if B&S stayed our own little secret? Is the status of
Tigermilk what keeps them ours, somehow?
The band say that there are too amny other things to do at the moment,
but what's to stop them just letting the thing out and letting it sell
itself. It undoubtedly would (IYFS seemed to tick over very happily
without a great deal of ongoing promotion, by word of mouth(?)), and the
money generated could be used for other things. I just don't understand
it.
The main point being that this is pop music and while I understand that
each of us has our own obscure and unobtainable corners of pop history,
it seems perverse and snobbish to artificially create this one, and it
would be selfish of us to support it. 'Collectable' has nothing to do
with 'pop'.
The last copy of Tigermilk I saw on sale went for eighty pounds. That
means that to hear the songs you either have to know someone with the LP
(i.e. be in the in-crowd) or have the sort of money floating about where
you can afford to splash ?80 on an LP.
So... the privileged or the rich. Le Tigermilk of the bourgeoisie?
Moan over.

I am so friggin' annoyed with this Pastie thing.
Pastie is not a word in the French language. It just simply does not exist. Even a French lad posted to the list guaranteeing this. People have suggested that it means apathy. It does not! It simply does not. Apathy in French is your standard cognate, apathie. So the apathy in French is l'apathie. Now, for somebody with a lisp and who does not know their differences between their genders, this could sound like, l'apathie (even though the stresses are a bit off).
BTW, bourgeoisie absolutely means middle class albeit upper middle class. It was the class in the French revolution who were not part of the nobility per se, but who made money through business practices. I believe in French, however, it's spelled bourgeousie (although I don't have my dictionary in front of me).

Well, not really but still kinda. On the charts page IYFS is number 10
in the indie section, so "Rah, Rah, Rah" for the group. And another rare
sign of good taste: In this months "Musician" magazine there is a half
page article on Richard Davies of Cardinal fame where he's talking about
his new album due out in Febuary. It sounds pretty interesting so keep
your eyes open for it. Anyone who could create the masterpiece that
is/was the Cardinal album, deserves a bit more than a half page, but I
digress.

Out of severe boredom I took to searching the internet and decided to
enter 'pastie' in the seek window, this is what turned up as a definition.
I doubt its relevance to 'La pastie...' but hey, it's something to
read......especially the difference in the two definitions given.
pastie
/pay'stee/ /n./ An adhesive-backed label designed to be attached to a
key on a keyboard to indicate some non-standard character which
can be accessed through that key. Pasties are likely to be used in
APL environments, where almost every key is associated with a
special character. A pastie on the R key, for example, might remind
the user that it is used to generate the rho character. The term
properly refers to nipple-concealing devices formerly worn by
strippers in concession to indecent-exposure laws; compare tits on a
keyboard.

'fraid not. I've probably only got a couple of singles (including the
brilliant 'Speeding Motorcycle' which The Pastels later covered).
I was always more of a Half Japanese fan, particularly when Don Fleming
(Axe God and Sonic Youth collaborator) was in the band. Everybody should
own a copy of their classic 'Charmed Life' LP. Mind you they also
released
quite a lot of experimental (i.e. unlistenable) stuff.
I believe Jad Fair (Half Japanese mainman) did some collaborative
recordings with Daniel, but I don't think I've got any.
Earlier today I wrote (as part of a promo idea):
>B&S could adapt this sort of idea making really nice cards - they
>won't have to be full colour or anything - and could have info on
>each band member (mind you that would burst the bag!) or just things
>that they think are cool (or anything at all, come to think of it).
>The outside of the bag could have another cool picture on it.
alternatively, the 'B&S promo brown paper bag' could contain short
ink polaroids (should confuse the uninitiated!) or even better
- real polaroids! (could be very, very expensive though).
Byee!

Just heard that Belle and Sebastian have recorded a new track for the new
Irvine Welsh film, based on 'The Acid House' book. Has anyone got any ideas
what the track is called, and when the soundtrack album comes out ?
