have sent 3 posts to the list in the last couple of days and
only one seems to have made it to the archive. which is odd.
the first was about my parents and whilst my mum generally
approves my dad's pretty clueless. as expected. (actually my
dad did surprise me a few years ago when he seemed to
recognise 'some candy talking' - 'that's that song about
drugs isn't it?')
the other was a re-iteration of my offer to tape tigermilk
for anyone who wants a copy. i'm just about done with the
outstanding requests i have and have noticed 3 posts in
recent days.
oh, katrina, did you get the tape i sent?

Not quite the same circumstances I know, but last night on the Camden
Crawl the DJ played LLPJ straight after Silver Sun had finished their
set while we were waiting for Echo and the Bunneymen to come on, and it
bombed, I think I was the only person in the place dancing.
Oh, and the latest band to follow the B&S path to fame and fortune, Snow
Patrol (aka Polar Bear) sound absolutely nothing like B&S; they reminded
me more of the Longpigs, except that they had some tunes. Best band of
the night was probably Carrie.

for me, one for my girlfriend. I got back to
[Keith Watson]
Odd that, as I'll completely agree, I had exactly the same experience as you with the Stone Roses, listened to it for about the next two years non stop, it was bloody great - probably the best album I've ever heard. I did however have the same experience, just over a year ago with Tigermilk, and it was Missing, down by the arches, that I bought that in...
It's also, as I remember, something Chris Keyboards was comparing it to, he reckoned, much as they were good, it was never as good as the Stone Roses, even although I told him I reckoned Tigermilk was the first record since the Stone Roses to affect me in the same sort of way (not that there haven't been a load of brilliant records in between, but MBV, talk talk, Fear of a black planet and the KLF don't really work the same way), and I reckon lots would agree. It's also, I would venture, the best album of the 90's, for me, overtaking the four previously mentioned records, DJ Shadow, Underworld, Ultra Vivid Scene etc. etc.
Cheers,
Keith.

Greetings,
I am in a similar situation. I think that the Scottish accent spoken
along to music sounds cool. They could be speaking gibberish, and
probably are, but it still manages to sound cool. In Ireland at any rate
the women think that the Scottish accent is very sexy, whatever that has
to do with anything... enough! Another band with that kind of song is
Prolapse, including male and female spoken word, so see you Jimmy, go and
listen to Prolapse for a while,
Graham
Ps. Does anyone else think that the beginning of the chorus of
"Judy and the dream of Horses" sounds like Abba's "SOS"..... "So if you
need me darling blah blah blah blah, SOS!"
Maybe it's just me : )

The Pastels 'Sittin' Pretty' LP immediately comes to mind. Although not
strictly
'Groundskeeper Willie' style, songs like 'Ditch the Fool' and 'Sittin'
Pretty'
definitely betray S. Pastels' West of Scotland brogue in a
not-quite-singing
voice. There are also ace songs like 'Nothing to be done' and 'zooom' on
it.
I'm sure some other maybe more obvious suggestions will be posted (BMX
Bandits
and suchlike).

Spookily enough, I was at work on Sunday morning (5 hours after clubbing)
and the radio had Wee Fat Bob on it. Lame's not the word for the show
-as I recall we actually remarked on its mainstream '80s timewarp
feel (Hall & Oates et al).
I recall the show being mildly amusing, but more at the attempts
(most failing miserably) at radio DJ humour.
Sadly, I seriously doubt if he's even heard of B&S.
Cheerio in a scottish accent,
Paul

As a novice to this list, I'll ask a stupid question.
Tigermilk. I know finding an actual copy is absurd but anyone have a quality dub
they'd surrender? Also, in NYC, where's the best place to grab the new EP? Tried
Other Music but no luck.
Thanks- T

My mom *loves* belle & sebastian. she plays it in her car over and over and
over again. every time a new EP would come in the mail from Rough Trade, she
would make me tape it and add to her collection. my dad, on the other hand,
has no time on his watch for b&s.

hullo,
i'm new to this list and i've got a million questions, however only one
will bother you right now:
After hearing 'A Century Of Elvis' and That-Arab Strap-
Song-Where-The-Guy-Talks-Throughout-The-Song-
Instead-Of-Singing, I'm now interested in hearing more
and more of the Scottish accent. Does anyone know of
other songs that are recorded in this style? Interesting
music with a person speaking in a Groundskeeper Willie
accent? I watched the Blue Boy last night in an effort to
appease my ears, but it wasn't enough. I guess tonight I'm
going to rent Gregory's Girl and Local Hero again.
Aw, what the heck, here's another one:
I heard the Evening Session songs on Real Audio a
little while back - are there any other plans for B&S
radio recordings to ever be 'released'? Also, does anyone
know of this crazy guy who does a radio show calling
himself 'wee fat bob'? my pal and i heard it one morning
during our trip to Scotland last spring, and i haven't
been able to find out a damn thing about the guy since.
The show was pretty lame, but it was hilarious to hear
someone telling people to call him on the Fat Boy Line!
Oh yeah, a tie-in... Ok, has Wee Fat Bob ever mentioned
or played B&S on his show?
Thanks a bajillion from an isolated computer-geek in California,
Wee Fat Clint
