Has anyone heard the new Blur single? (M.O.R.) Does anyone else reckon it's not slightly a little bit totally like "Boys Keep Swinging" by David Bowie? Like, even down to the words.
Hello to Paul Laird by the way- sorry for being rubbered at your club again on Saturday.
And regarding Indie Clubs - Paul plays B+S regularly at the Egg in Edinburgh and I wouldn't say there's any sort of "clearing of the dancefloor", good laugh.
Cheers,
Keith.

Yeah, I know what you mean. My girlfriend goes to a lot of indie nights in
Edinburgh. She tells me Belle & Sebastian always clears half the dance
floor. Or it could be her and her mates dancing like mad to it that does
it.

My vote goes to the Tube Bar in Leicester (Saturday nights, 10-2 at the International Club, near St Margarets bus station). They play Belle & Sebastian regularly, and it never clears the dancefloor. In fact, just the opposite. A few weeks back they played 3 B&S tunes back-to-back, and the floor was heaving. Mind you, it's not strictly an "indie" club.......lots of 60's psych, lo-fi stuff and a smattering of easy-listening. No "techno rubbish", mind (although they do play Cornershop, if that counts?). The place is always packed out.....probably about three-quarters non-student, for the socialogically-minded.

Thanks Dr Stride for mentioning the Indie night. I'm thinking about what
other types of music Belle & Sebastian can accompany, and sound great
with. Personally speaking I don't think they fit well with the majority
of Indie bands (or whatever Indie counts as nowadays), especially at a
student disco.
B&S are a band I listen to, both musically and lyrically. Until I
actually get to hear B&S being played whilst I am in a club I don't see
how they would fit in.
Some of the list, yeah, Smiths, Stereolab, Super Furry Animals, but they
all have the same mood. I think I'll play around with me tapes tonight
and see what mixes'an'moods work.
Anyone else have thoughts?

Well....my disco may take place at Sheff Uni' but the majority of
punters are non-students; more the hardcore of Sheffield's indiepop
scene, and they are always requesting 'Mayfly' and 'Seeing other
people' (or at least they were
last year!). And its an opportunity to educate those students
currently overdosing on Paul Weller, etc

This is "No Expectations" from Tigermilk.
Incidentally, Karen David's just pointed out that A Century of Fakers is due for release now in the first week of October.
Cheers,

This may have come up before, apologies if it has.
Just sat here listening to Tigermilk and after once again marvelling
at how very wonderful it is something else struck me. The intro to
"Mary Jo" where had I heard it before?
Then like some scary vietnam flash back it hit me Cliff Richard's "A
Winters Tale" Unless it has David Essex & the song wasn't called that
at all? Is it just me & my head full of songs of Cliff? Please tell
me it isn't so.
Whilest I'm here, perfect songs for Belle & Sebastian to cover:
Cattle & Cane or Bye Bye Pride by the Go-Betweens
Gloria - Hurrah
something by The Pale Fountains.

Everyone is talking about "Century of fakers" since two or three days. What
is it ? I thought the new ep of B&S, which should be available today, was
called "3,6,9 seconds of light". Is it the same ? An other one ??
I need your help because it's not easy to purchase these records from
France when you don't have the titles of the records.

Ink Polaroids are surely a way of showing imaginary pictures to people. So,
this means that without any skill at all, you can take great pictures of
anything in the world. Or even not in this world..."This is one of me
standing on Mars with two Martian friends...."
So why is everyone sharing pictures that are crap! They're either blurred,
too wet, feet only, wrong type of film - don't think I've seen a thumb over
the lens yet but I'm sure it's coming!
When I take pictures in real life, if any of the above happen, I tend to
not put them on display in my photo album but hide them away somewhere.
So come on people, if we're going to have to read about your private
moments when we've never met you, lets at least have some nicely composed,
in focus piccies to look at.
