Hi everyone! Well, we thought that releasing three albums in the space of 4 weeks was hectic and stupid and shouldn't be done again ... so guess what? I have news of forthcoming singles and tours by snow patrol and Salako, released one week after the other! The theme this month is "double a-sided singles" ... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ snow patrol release their double a-side single "velocity girl"/"absolute gravity" on november 9th 1998. released on limited edition 7" (JPR7007) and cd-single (JPRCDS007) which features the bonus track "when you're right, you're right" and is distributed by 3mv/pinnacle. this is what the boys had to say about the single ... hibernation is over, forget your cotton wool and water, snow patrol have come out to feed. don't put out nuts and berries, they're looking for the big kill. the national monkey reserves have been mobilised for the velocity girl/absolute gravity offensive. pulling out all the stops, a double a-side strategy has been chosen as the best course of action. softly softly, catch a monkey, "velocity girl" catches up with you after all the years of smiling in the street but not actually saying hello. a warm, warped love song, an understated highlight from the debut album songs for polar bears. it sounds like burt bacharach pouring hot chip fat onto the back of cyndi lauper's hand, accidentally on purpose. also looming large is "absolute gravity", here to get mischievous with your dutch caps. turntable tactician, tom simpson, a regular live contributor, takes this tune somewhere else. low down and dirty, it sounds like two elephants fighting over the love of a small mouse. swaggering drunkenly like a sailor looking for a fight, it demands your attention and has long been a live favourite. Err, I'm gonna send them separately, since some are a bit long. I'm gonna send 3 now, and I just need to polish up my tabs for Ditry Dream #2 and Simple Things. Maybe I'll finish Chickfactor, as well. Ease Your Feet In The Sea Just the basic chords. The guitar doing the more noodley stuff is a bit too random to tab out, though it's all based around the same chords, though the F is done higher up the fretboard (ie as a barre A chord on the 8/10 frets). I think said guitar is capo'd at the 6th fret actually, just to make it easier. I've tabbed out the solo, though. Dear all, This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you, but I'm afraid I have to leave you for a while. No no, it's not you it's me. I need to go and settle some things, but I promise to be back, though under a different guise. I really have enjoyed the hours of reading enjoyment the list has brought me, as well as enabling me to settle comfortably into my B&S addiction. If anyone is interested in some new music, there are two bands here in Seattle who have released CDs that I absolutely adore. They both have a really clean sound that tugs on your heart strings. #1. Tullycraft- This is perfect music for those pouty days when you feel like everyone else has had first pick from your toybox. #2. The Melody Unit- Check them out! Ian Curtis meets Liz Fraser- both boy and girl vocalists (both really cute, too). CD is called "Wax Cylinder." Sinister: All for one and one for all

That was going to be my title for my post about the incident in Philadelphia. Followed by its only rock and roll. I meant to report sooner but, access and tiredness prevented me. So many days have passed now, and happier things are going on in Chicago and Georgia. Its best to dwell on those I suppose. And it seems like for most part everybody handled things the best they could considering the situation. It must be because of Honey's well-meaning discipline that everybody behaved so well. We ran into Neil almost right away when we got to the club and he informed us of Isobel's condition. Whenever someone is sick enough to go to the hospital, that's time to start worrying. All I can say on the matter is that I'm glad the band waited to the last minute to cancel. I was enjoying the wait myself. I was with my friends, there was plenty of good beer, I like the Housemartins, so I didn't mind hearing the entire "That's what I call quite good" double lp twice in a row, I was able to chat a little bit with wee Chris and Neil, and finally, I got to have a long chat and catch up on list gossip with Michele as we lingered in the back alley looking like a couple of lost groupies. (Speaking of which, I would like to apologize to the couple of kids who were chased away by the angered security guard. Angered by my friends who made an unwise decision to try and sneak in the back door. They meant well, but sometimes they don't think things through. It was somewhat funny when he threatened to break my friends arm. Do bouncers have the right to do that? Probably.) And now it seems that the band wants to return to Philadelphia as soon as possible. Chris having to announce the cancellation must of been really tough. Talking to him before hand, you could sense how excited he was about playing. He mentioned how none of the band had been there before, and yet look at the turnout. He also said that he walked into a cafe the day before and they were playing the album. He really likes Philadelphia. When he came out on stage and delivered the sad news, he just stood there taking the abuse. Captain Chris indeed. Three cheers..... The rest my weekend down in Pennsylvania was beyond perfect. Lovely weather. Falling asleep in the sun. Larissa and Shilough from my Boston story singing If you're feeling sinister... To bad we couldn't have stolen away Isobel for the day. Recuperating in an old victorian house, looking out on freshly cut corn fields, instead of being cooped up in some ugly hospital/hotel/tour bus. Shilough's sisters could have brought her tea and scones and all sorts of home remedies, while his mom could have entertained the rest of the band with her stories of seeing the Velvet Underground, and hanging out with Bob Dylan and The Band. This was supposed to be short(er). I'll work on that. Bye Carrick one more thing.... Sinister: chicago gig review

Well, I just got back into town from Chicago(I live in Cleveland), so I thought l'd share my thoughts about the show with the list. First of all it was definitely a wonderful night. Everywhere I went over the weekend l kept hearing people whispering about b&s, wondering if it was going to happen or not. I truly feel sorry for the people in Philly and Toronto, it really did make the Chicago crowd appreciative, though. I don't think anyone really believed they would play until they actually came out on stage, Isobel carrying her "get well Isobel" floaty baloon with her. They only played for just over an hour, which everyone thought was too short, but everyone would have thought so if they played all night, i'm sure. Below is what they played, not in order, though. The last three I don't know the names, but I jotted down a portion of the lyric I could remember. century of fakers lazy line painter jane dog on wheels seeing other people it could have been a brilliant career is it wicked not to care dirty dream #2 chickfactor lord anthony wrong girl paper boat "walk into this station" "I know where the summer goes" "musle skin and bones" I was disappointed by no Tigermilk songs, and only 1 Sinister song, but 6(!) new ones made up for it. I was really suprised by the amount of instrument swapping in between songs, and they didn't take as long in between songs as some people have been saying. After seeing them in person, I'd have to say Stevie is the cute one of the bunch, even though I had a dirty dream about Stuart M. last night. I was at a party(in the dream) and Stuart was playing some songs on his guitar, and he kept lifting up the leg of his shorts and showing me what he's made of(he wasn't wearing an english cock cage). Don't worry, I didn't touch, I only looked:) Stuart's voice was just absolutely perfect. Someone else brought it up, but you always think they do something in the studio to make his voice so perfect, but hearing him in person just brought out the natural crystal clear beauty in it. The show was surely one for the history books. I'm really hoping they come back to the states in the spring despite the sickness and all. I really want to take another trip that I can't afford to see the best band around. Love, Steven (the boy who sells arab straps) p.s. On the misheard lyric front, for the longest time I thought the opening line to "seeing other people" was "Renee on a bad day, kissing just for practise."
