... they're releasing an EP in the UK before Christmas!!! and guess what else? It's finally the long awaited "This Is Just A Modern Rock Song" EP ... can you believe it? OK, so i 'spose you want some proper details ... here goes: Belle & Sebastian release a new EP, as yet untitled on December 7th, 1998. The tracklisting will be (but not necessarily in this order) This Is Just A Modern Rock Song (*sigh*, i love this song ... aahhhhh) Slow Graffiti (from the soundtrack to The Acid House) The Gate (another Isobel composition + vocal) I Know Where The Summer Goes (lovely, lovely, lovely) It will be released on CD-single and 12" and Stuart is also thinking of doing a four-track 7" too. If you know anything about the UK charts, you'll know that this will be ineligible for the Singles Chart due to it being a four-track EP. Boo to the Business World indeed! Apparently Sarah is shooting a video for "...Modern Rock Song" but i should have more details about that when the band get back from the U.S. HOW EXCITING!!! I always said "...Modern Rock Song" was a wintry song let's hope it snows on December 7th. :) And now for the bad news ... Even though I know that the Toronto gig will not be rescheduled for definite, I really can't see the Philly gig being rescheduled this time around, unless it goes ahead tomorrow, Thursday 29/10. Stuart has to fly back to the UK on Tuesday 03/11 and they don't really have another spare date (except for Saturday 31/10), but as soon as i have news for definite, i promise to let you all know. hello listees. i'm tickled pink that so many of you are coming to visit us here in new york this weekend. who needs some band when you can have girls-nights-out on a lovely friday? i'm just kidding of course. unless i'm not. to help sustain you till sunday evening, here's a recommendation for b&s from an unexpected publication -- mademoiselle magazine, women's trash central. SPICE UP YOUR CDWARDROBE POP: [desk-centric photo] THE UPDATE [as opposed to the pop standard wild orchid's OXYGEN] Belle & Sebastian's TBWTAS. Their name suggests a duo but b&s are actually a scotish octet. God I'm bored, Last half hour in the orifice. Nothing to do except mail obscure lists and shuffle papers. Might have spaghetti on toast for tea tonight. You know, for a change. Bit fed up with baked beans. I suppose I could go to Somerfield on the way home from the station and buy some cheese, only the have such a poor selection. It's dark now when I walk home from the station. Got '3,6,9' on the old walkman tonight. It's quite a dull walk home actually. Round the back of London Road from Brighton train station. There are some kids who sit on a wall about 10ft high and are currently asking for a penny, it's for their guy. Seems like such a crap space to 'guy' from so I always give them a pound. They've been there for about a fortnight now, it's getting quite expensive. Maybe I could just walk up London Rd itself, only it's full of weirdo's. Shite, it's still only 17:05. and again, hello to you all! as i promised earlier, here's the details of Salako's forthcoming single: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The strangest band in the world release a double a-side CD + 7" single on 16/11/98 (jprcds008/jpr7008) featuring the tracks ... the moonlight radiates a purple glow in his world go on then! enlighten me, why doncha? and bonus CD track, easy to love you (do you think they could come up with longer song titles?) oh, and for even extra weirdness, here's their press release ... "Feel like ride a plastic horse (or horse-like cow), which has an unbelievable speed like real rodeo. Although fall flop down from that fake animal, it won't stop, and just next take it. Watching them, grab the wounded leg with pulling faces. Go back home with bruises on the hip and limb, then someone come to me and say 'baby will be fine when the morning come'. That words really stabilise me like the sign, 'mind the gap' which you can find at the underground (even though it never works). "I really deep into this song, cause, coz, I wrote some story's about home and kitchen stuff, and it really has common (yah, maybe) image with this song. Me story is like an never-ending downward spiral. Something like, uhm, get into the bathtub, 'n floating upon the surface for hours, and turn into a sediment, which finally sink to the bottom. I bought Salako's CD without hesitation at HMV and then I went to the Heathrow airport. That was my last day in London, in UK. And Salako's CD was the last CD that I bought in UK. I just listened this song with my CD player at the airport, and it brought me some nostalgia. I still don't know for what. Anyway, great match with aeroplane and the mood of airport. "Fresh air-conditioner song. I think, the vocal, he has the voice of the candy in the throat. I guess he just swallowed some sweet candy as a child, but that didn't melt, just remain in the throat till now, so everytime he talk or sing, the not-melted candy make some sounds, sounds like whistle. - e-mail from a fan, October 1998 We hope our music affects everyone in this way." Ok, so by now you must understand that they're a bunch of crazies.
