hey, this is miss grumpy, i-hate-athens girl. thanks for slagging me off, both personally and on the list. it is nice to know that i am not godly, and am only human, and i put my big ole foot in my mouth just like everyone else in awhile. (for those who dont understand what the hell i am talking about....i am talking about how i was offensive to some people in athens.) meanwhile, on the other end of the city..... yes, for you who asked, heather, i was on the popscene mailing list but not on hoax, though i did know people there. and yes, to you who asked (forgot the name....too much mail to wade through...i am SORRY) sad tomato hails from r.e.m.'s late great "crush with eyeliner." the song is great, the video is great...japanese kids in cowboy hats! and anna sui fuzzy animal hats! i have been using this name ever since that monster album came out....i will probably change it when i grow up and get some big fancy-shmansy job somewhere. to anastasia: you were on hoax and popscene too, right? and i heard a story from someone once that you and some other people gave graham coxon a vassar t-shirt. or was that someone else? well, anyway, in a sort of recent issue of raygun magazine (the one with mini-articles about catatonia and rialto) there was a picture of mr. coxon wearing a vassar shirt...i thought that was neat-o. smut....just HOW would someone have anal sex with kittens? cy cnycu (for those who know welsh), robin. Sinister: Love That Dirty Water

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Well I've just returned, escaped rather, from the once fair city of Boston. And it seems the other attendees of last nights show only told you a small bit of what really happened. Like Stuart's forgetting the chords to Judy and The Dream of Horses was the only incident worth mentioning. Most likely, everyone is trying to cover their tracks, and not let on to the Boston Police their involvement in what has been determined to be the most subversive and violent rock and roll crowd to besmirch the fair streets of Olde Boston Towne since Jefferson Airplane burned American flags and led bands of rioting youths down Commonwealth Avenue back in 1968. It all started when our dear friend Jamie was unable to attend, and we were forced to sell our extra ticket out front. This caught the eye of the lone constable on duty who only assumed we were cheating the poor fellow. Only one officer was sent out for the show since the word on street was that all Belle and Sebastian fans were foppish, limp wristed, "cardie wearing biscuit nibbling", apathetic youngsters. But as we were being accosted by the cop, the crowd waiting to get in caused a fuss, and chased the poor man back to his squad car. Yet before the reinforcements arrived, we had barricaded ourselves in the auditorium. The show started on schedule, but the now riled up mob soon realized that the only drinks to be had was from the taps of the bathroom sinks, and proceeded to drown the opening band with chants of WE WANT BEER!!!, or for the few Brits in the audience, WE WANT CIDER!!!! Luckily a few gallant souls snuck out the back door during the break and skipped down to the local package store to see what they could find. They returned with armfuls of small airplane size bottles of Jameson's Irish Whiskey. These were swiftly distributed by being thrown from the balcony to the wanting and eager hands below. So by the time our heroes took the stage, they were greeted by the bacchanalian roar that we all know they deserve. At witnessing the revelry before him, Stuart Murdoch, seized by a sudden, ancestral, Calvinist zeal, scaled the wall behind the stage, and grabbed the stone tablets of the Ten Commandants which hung there and dashed them to pieces. The ignorant, heathen crowd did not understand Stuart's point and carried on in there wanton ways. Stuart than decided that in light of the recent lenient attitudes of the Church of England, it was best to continue the show, and soon got into the spirit of things. As you can imagine, even though the band was in fine form, and it certainly can be claimed that they ROCK!!!, the show proceeded in a somewhat tense atmosphere. What, with the majority of Boston's finest circling the auditorium and the supply of Jameson's Whiskey rapidly evaporating. It didn't help matters when the band after teasing us with Boston's More Than A Feeling, went into the loudest, most violent version of MC5's Kick Out The Jams this boy has ever heard. Hearing the battle cry of our protesting parents prepared the crowd well for what faced them outside, leading to much airplane size liquor bottle throwing which was of course followed by the police brandishing their night sticks and stun guns. The battle lasted until the wee hours of the morning, with the band skipping off in their tour bus in the midst of the fight to the safer confines of Philadelphia, and our side being reinforced with the majority of the student population of Boston University. Of course not much was left of the Auditorium, with much of the seating being torn up during concert to be used as barricades. No mid terms for a while, I'm afraid. All the throngs of Boston fans have now gone into hiding and no one will dare wear a B&S t-shirt for years to come. No matter really, since all shirts bought at the show had to be used as gas masks during the tear gas attack. All and all a good show. Only a few precious souls were lost. And a few have been caught by "The Man". Our prayers and thoughts are with them tonight. Boston will never be the same.The battle has just begun. And where was I during all of this? Not only are they full of fantastic pop, but if you own actual copies they make you look really cool as well. Sinister: chicago meet up figured out!

Sinister: philly show.

Hello. I've never written to this list before. But I will be attending the show in philly at the troc. So I thought I that now would be a good time to announce my presence- what there is of it. Perhaps its verboten to say I like the second album less than the first, but its true. I am, though, looking very much forward to seeing all oft he songs played live. I play a bit of guitar with ab it fo a band that, like most bands, is badly in need of drummer. who knows how to play his instrument. and has a bit of taste. I don't expect to meet anyone at a b&s show that lacks taste. How could it happen? I just bought a grey nehru jacket with a green collar. I have a mop of black hair and square steel-rimmed glasses and I am quite korean. Sinister: A DC Meetup?

Hiya, I know I've posted a lot this evening, but this struck me as rather relevant. And the second of my three posts was to get people to stop pumping my mailbox with helpful information =) Well, I don't post terribly often (certainly not enough to gain any list crushes), so I guess I'm burning all this week's posts tonight. I checked out the Jeepster site, and a paltry 3 people had posted there about a DC meetup! Come on, people! 6 or 7 must have e-mailed me, though not all DC-ers. Megan, Matt, Brian and I are driving down from NYC to see the show, so I don't know what time we'll get there, but regardless of what time we do, there ought to be a meetup, whether we can make it or not. Now if I lived in DC, I'd suggest a place to do this. There were some suggestions in Jeepster. Though I have been to DC 5 or 6 times, I really don't know any locales. So someone from DC step up and pick a place, and post it to the list, and ask us to e-mail. Or something like that. We wouldn't want to end up like the BOSTON gig! Haha! No, I'm only kidding. I mean it would be nice to meet some of you nice folk beforehand, because during I imagine it will get pretty hectic. Also, anyone know what band will be opening? Sinister: "Tigermilk" (what else??)

Hi, all. I am a newcomer and have a question that has surely been asked 8 billion times on this list. Several times I have come very close to obtaining "Tigermilk" on one format or another, but trades keep falling through and suppliers keep selling their copies. Is anyone out there kind enough to copy "Tigermilk" onto a CD for me (from original vinyl of course), or put a copy on a good quality cassette? Or does anyone have the capacity to put mp3 files of all tracks on the web? Or, better yet, is anyone interested in selling me a copy of the actual LP for lots of cash? :) :) :) I will definitely make it worth your while and am very flexible. I have an ample money supply, music by other bands to trade and a CD burner of my own. If you can provide a good quality copy, your wish is my command.
