Just so y'all know... There's a WONDEFUL show at the PMA (http://www.libertynet.org/pma/) now: Cornell and Duchamp. Cornell made these wonderful little boxes and diorama things and was the world's greatest pack rat. All sparkles and fairies and snowy woods. He had an Emily Dickinson thing too. I wrote a paper about him in college: http://members.aol.com/Rubyof44/cornell/cornell1.html And Duchamp, well, everyone knows Duchamp and the Bride with her Bachelors and R. Mutt's toilet etc... I wrote this essay (which is at the end of the site I just listed) about how Cornell was all indierock before his time. I'm a big geek, I know. And the Cy Twombly room (50 days at Iliam series of paintings) is near-religious. Please go if you're just bumming around before the show. It's open until 5, so you'd have plenty of time to get back to the Troc first. Sinister: the Troc, midterms, smut, & Chinese food

<<in the first row at the Troc.>> I can assure you that there is no such organization there. :) If y'all can't get toward the front, best hang out by the bar (where a girl formerly known as Rage-Against-the-Megan used to work, wonder if she's still there?) and maybe you can boost yourself up over the heads of the kids in front of you. The good thing about that place is the floor is a bit sloped, and so short girls like me don't have to always not see anything. (Like the Pontiac Grille on South St., where line-backer high schoolers form walls of shoulders across an already way-too-narrow space.) The bad thing is that it's so stinkin' wide that you feel like you're far away from the bands. T-shirts are usually sold in this little alcove-y place to the right of the vestibule. Probably a good idea not to wait until after the show to get stuff. This is the first time I'll be there for a non-punk rock show. How strange will it be not to see the straight-edge thugs all hefting around in their Stackhouse jerseys with gothic tattooing across their shoulder blades. Hey, since it's not a punk show, maybe I CAN get close to the front since there'll be no mosh pit. How lovely! So I was sitting there this morning, at Morse, taking a test, trying to imagine what the scene was like last night with all the pop stars that were running around. I'm psyched it was good. Hope they play Space Boy Dream in Philly too. By the way, B&S are yummy for early morning, sleepy, oh-hey-all-of-a-sudden-we're-having-sex sex. Or so I've recently discovered. ;) <<Whew! I feel like Mr. Tour Guide. Anyone want to know of some good <<vegetarian Chinese restaurants while I'm at it? (The Trocadero is located <<in Chinatown) Thanks Mr. Tour Guide! :) The Troc is also not too far from Doc someone-or-other (Johnson's?) Good Time Emporium (or something sleazy like that) for those of you who have lots of quarters left over for peep show booths. :) The Chinese place directly across from the entrance on the corner of 10th and Arch is pretty yummy too, and the woman who runs the show (at least, a couple years ago) is a lot more tolerant of grungy post-rock and roll kids stumbling in there all starving at 11pm than a lot of other places would seem to be. There's also a Wawa (7-11 ish place; ahhh Wawa, how Pennsylvania you are...) across the street closer to 11th for your pre-show Tastykake and Gatorade needs. I'm so loving the fact I'm going home to PA for a good show. Anyone have any yarn/ribbon/etc. ideas? (Sorry I'm like a total list newbie posting these obnoxious long rambles.) Sinister: Philly Post-B&S Pawty Info...

OK, here's the scoop on the B&S post-show party. The address is 3957 Baltimore Avenue, home of Julie Gerstein. How to get there from the Troc: --VIA CAR: The Troc is at 1003 Arch Street (something like that). Going north to south the streets go Arch, Market, Chestnut, Walnut, Locust, Spruce, Pine, Lombard, South. (just for your reference) The only ones that go west (the ones you want) are Market, Walnut, Spruce and Lombard. One-way streets, gotta love 'em. I would recommend going south on any odd-numbered street (9th or 11th will work best) until you hit Walnut. Turn right (west) onto Walnut and just cruise right on up to 38th Street (you'll pass out of Center City, go over the bridge, and enter University City). Once you're on 38th, turn left onto 38th (south) until you hit Spruce. Turn right (west) onto Spruce and continue until you hit 40th Street. Turn left (south) onto 40th Street and start to look for parking! Once you're on 40th the streets you'll hit are Pine and then Baltimore...so you could even get parking on Spruce and just walk on over to 3957 Baltimore. --VIA SUBWAY: Go to a subway station at 8th and Market or 11th and Market. You want the blue line (Market-Frankford) going to 69th Street (west). Once you get to the 15th/City Hall stop *or* the 30th Street Station stop on the blue line, get out and transfer to the green line (Subway Surface), which will come in individual trolleys. Then you take this to 40th Street and get out there. You'll be on 40th and Baltimore, and then it's just a hop, skip and a jump away to 3957 Baltimore. Whew! I feel like Mr. Tour Guide. Sinister: need an excuse!

twattybus is humming mellowly away in my ears while i bump and jiggle around on the bus ride home. then, uncharacteristically i begin to grin. why? in 72 hours belle and sebastian will actually be in toronto. no big news to everyone, but i haven't actually let it set in untill now. i was so stressed about a huge test i had yesterday, that the thought of belle and sebby couldn't get through. i arrived home yesterday, intent on finishing my readings on ostracism and write the paper that is due today. has it been done yet? my class fast approaching? actually in about 20 minutes? of course NOT. i got overly giddy yesterday. i just couldn't sit myself down and write a paper on ostracized individuals in ancient athens. how does that seem at all important when my secret musical loves are finally crossing the actlantic and gracing our city with their wonderful presence? so my plea now, though too late, to anyone still reading this, is what excuse do i give my professor?
