I posted this on the Jeepster message board site, but as the show is now four days away and i still don't know how i'm getting there, i thought i'd bother all you sinisterians with a local request. "I'm wondering if any sinisterians will be coming in to the Philly show from the western suburbs. I live in St Davids (just past Villanova on the main line) and i'm still not quite sure how i'm getting to the show. The pre-show party would probably be lots of fun, too... I have a friend with whom i *might* be able to get a ride to the show, but if anyone happens to be headed through my area and wouldn't mind picking up a lonely shy little sinisterian, i'd really really appreciate it. I would like to take this opportunity to thank PeeJay and Keef for their rapid replies to my selfish demands. Peter I would love to recreate the tuneful sounds of mother natures most annoying little son, the bee, inside my own little box room. Therefore I will send a tape onto you, if I may be blessed with the details of your exact location Keith said.. I'm no Northern Soul expert really, Aw. so modest. Thank you for your gorgeous honesty, but I have great faith in your musical taste and would also love a copy of the Divine sounds from Keith's kitchen. I need some help here. I work in biggish bar in Dublin and we are in dire need of a musical upheaval. I am looking for suggestions of CDs that may work(just fit in not necessarly taking orders at the bar) there. The most (overly) played CDs are Morcheeba, Air, Massive Attack (Blue Lines), Nuyorican Soul, Marvin Gaye, Ella, Frank, Nat, King Tubby, etc. There are so many CDs out there but I have seem to have drawn a blank on this one. Sinister: Lotus Eaters

Peter, I didn't know the Lotus Eaters extended any further than their 1983 hit, don't know anything about them - however, the bizarre and crazy news today from my corner of the world as regards hits in 1983, is that this girl's just joined our company and she used to be the drummer in the Belle Stars! Weird eh! (There's the Belle and Sebastian link - for the more hawk-eyed amongst you). John, as regards the words to "She's Losing It", yes that's the words as far as I know. Clare, yes as regards these things, I'm no Northern Soul expert really, so I'm probably not the person to do it really, still I can give you a copy of a Divine mix tape I've got, which is "Specially cooked up by Andrew Divine and Hush Puppy for you to recreate the Divine experience in your own front room". I have however thrown caution to the wind as far as this is concerned and recreated the unique Divine experience in my kitchen - in order to understand how they "cooked" up the tape in the first place. A bit of a poser for you: Last night we were in a pub quiz and one of the questions was "Who was Gregory's Girl"? Now I found this pretty difficult - is it Dee Hepburn, or is it Clare Grogan, or indeed, at the end, when his sister goes "Who's going to be Gregory's Girl"? He goes "You are". Which puts a whole new light on the question. Hello All, Francoise Hardy is indeed worth a listen. A lot of the French singers from the sixties who are growing in popularity these days have a kind of kitsch easy listening appeal, but Francoise Hardy's folky pop songs are just achingly beautiful. My main mishearing is in "She's Losing It", and I still prefer my version which goes "When the first cup of coffee tastes like washing up, She knows she's losing it". Who said Lolitapop Dollhouse? Was that Megan? Any Japanese pop and/or Momus references get my wholehearted approval. Have we stopped talking about cheese now? I never got to mention Y Fenni which is a distinctive Welsh cheese made with ale and mustard seeds. In the interest of furthering smut levels here is the tale of the time when I met Alex Higgins. For those who don't follow snooker, Alex Higgins is one of the finest and most distinguished sportsmen of the last twenty years. Alternatively he is an offensive drunk who often terrorises the populace of south Manchester. Judge for yourselves: Here I am, having just enjoyed a night out with some friends. We have caught the 192 bus back to Levenshulme, and have just stopped off at Farooqs for a bite to eat. There is a short drunk slumped over the counter giving the staff a torrent of abuse. For no apparent reason he turns around, looks at myself and my friends and says "You're all clever c*nts", then turns his attentions back to the staff again. Yes, it's the former snooker world champion himself. Next he hails a taxi by staggering out of Farooqs and into the middle of the road where he stops and sways from side to side. When a taxi does stop he comes back in to collect his food, and asks us if we want to share the taxi with him. We decline his kind offer and he disappears into the night. According to Locke, man's natural state is war and conflict. His socio-political model is roughly, give or take a few interpretations and a bit of memory loss, as follows. This expands into a political model, where people in a society appreciate that they need rules to stop this kind of barbarity, so they club together and elect in some way an individual to rule them. Given the potentially evil nature of their leader they give him / her limited powers within which they can rule, so if their leader oversteps they get to oust them. - this is Locke , because the people have made a contract with the supreme. I think in the Hobbes model everyone is so loving and kind and naive that they just elect someone and decide that they're so trustworthy they give them unlimited power, probably because they weren't around when Lord Acton told the world that "power tends to corrupt. Absolute power corrupts absolutely." - Hobby-boy is a bit confusing when it comes to the power of the supreme , because he wants the supreme to be an uber-man untouched by the laws he makes or by his subjects , but he doesnŽt say explicitly that the surpreme can do whatever he wants to ( one can protect oneself from injustice etc.etc. ) , nor that one elected , he can rule as long as it suits him , because he says that people can rebel , if society has reached the state of anarchy b`cuz the supreme was the power or person to prevent that from happening , so there is no difference in having a supreme , but he also says that the contract is a contract between the people (they surrender some of their rights to gain security ) and not between the people and the supreme as locky . whooooo....... any comments?????? Sinister: Stuffs and Things

Hello Carnage F*ckers! Nolan Sisters? Starksy and Hutch? Eleven naked people in a tent? I'm lost for words. I bought Q magazine for the first time in ages. I must say, you haven't been keeping me very up to date - there's a new Keith Moon book! "What," thought Alice, "is the point of a book about keith Moon that isn't called Moon the Loon - The Amazing Rock 'n' Roll Life of Keith Moon?" B&S content: Someone is advertising "The Baby With The Arab Strap" for sale, which I find frankly disgusting. They must have seen "The Acid House" already. And in the charts: "These introspective folksters won't take pictures and refused to tour with Radiohead, so this Top 40 entry is arguably the "purest" reflection of public taste in the chart. However, their lack of commercial ambition borders on priggishness." So there we have it - Stuart Murdoch is a priggishness. Elsewhere in the magazine, there is bountiful evidence that so-called journalists have been keeping a watchful eye on us, well, Northy anyway, because the fact that Simon Fowler is a gayboy is covered. There is also a mention of "Joey Deacon" noises, and the reformed Lotus Eaters have had a great idea: "We'll play in the UK again, but not a rock venue. Probably a library!" I'd never really thought about the similarity between the Lotus Eaters and B&S, but it's more or less the same - slow bit, fast bit, acoustic instruments, plaintive boy/girl vocals, choirboyish charm, a barely concealed yearning to break free from the constraints of accepted "normal" sexuality... More ink polaroids are needed of the Po Caff and McRagtag's triumphant re-entry unto DJ Land. I'll happily do you a tape, Claire Timmins, but I'm no expert on the clubs you mention. The Twisted Wheel's my scene, you know, primitive instrumentals and wierd bee sting dances. Also, my investigation of the Brazillian music scene continues apace - the most beautiful song of all time is "O Leaozinho" by Caetano Veloso. This is what I mean about being nostalgic for before I was born, even though it's from 1977.
