Sinister: A humble plea to the thoughtful and gracious

This is my first post and I am sorry it is a request for B&S rarities, but as I have not heard anything but the albums and the ep's I am not able as I would like to be to comment on "Loneliness", "Modern Rock Song", etc..., when they are brought up in the list. I LOVE everything I have ever heard including Isobel's "Beautiful Everything" and Looper's 7". I wish I could have introduced myself with something charming or witty, but alas, I offer only a humble request for any non-lp/ep tracks which anyone may see fit to make available to me. I have some things I can trade like recordings of Elliott Smith 7"'s and a Mary Lou Lord concert video. I also have many other cd's I could trade recordings. I have blank tapes and postage. And I promise next time I will have something important or at least amusing to say. By the way, Karn David e-mailed me and said Looper will probably be playing Seattle sometime next spring. You are all welcome to stay at my place. Sinister: Back to loving the music.

Hi list, I love the music too, but sometimes I have a big mouth and warped sarcastic sense of homour, sometimes people don't even get it when I'm talking to them in person, so to expect it to comes across through words was a bit dim witted. (although it seems Nick Grundy picked up on it at least) To add to what was being said about the mythical Modern Rock Song EP. I had been told by someone close ( can't remeber who it was but they emailed me before the album came out) to the band that the reason Loneliness hadn't been released was that they had yet to get the sound that they wanted down on record. And yes at the time they were going going to put it on an EP. I even got a copy of an unmixed version through someone I know, and that had the 2 tracks I've already mentioned and also a mighty moving Slow Grafitti. I hope that helped, Jake And to add to my Looper recommendation (Oh my god, Stu D sent me an email the other day!, how good is that!) I want to tell everyone how good the new Mercury Rev album is. If you are already on the sessions waiting list then you may well get that shoved on to side B of your tape. Sinister: dare i ask?

hi there! i was at the b and s show last night in chicago and had a wonderful time. i had considered bring my camera to the show, but knowing how photo shy the band is, i decided that they might body check people at the door, so i didn't try to bring it. of course, after i get inside i realise that they weren't checking people at all. i saw that alot of people were taking photos and i was wondering if anyone on the list did. if you can e-mail me privately that would be great. also does anyone know the set list for the show? there were a few songs i didn't know, like slow graffti and possibly a few other new ones (or from tigermilk) and i would like to know what they were called. i met stuart after the show and he was a really nice guy. he was quite amazed that i came all the way out from LA just to see his band. he said something like, "but we are going to play California sometime, we will do san francisco, probably skip LA and then play san diego." i laughed and said, that is fine, after flying almost 2000 miles, i can drive a measly 100 miles to see you in san diego. :) i want to say hi to the few people i met from the list. i am not surprised i couldn't find the rest of you, they pack 1100 people in the tiny tin can of a box they call the metro! i do wish i got one of those little posters, i saw a few people carrying. i guess it was something the "special" backstage people got after the show! toodles! jennifer +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". Sinister: Loneliness

Hi list... I dont want to add anything to the recent controversies (in fact, I dont read all the messages and i dont remember what you're talking about...). Just wanted to say a few words about "The Loneliness of a Mid-Distance Runner". Jessica's asked us what it is about. Well, it's very diffucult to describe this song (especially for me, with my bad english). The only thing I could say is this is ace, definitely (I know, it's not much, sorry...). I heard it twice : the first time was in Manchester and the second in Nottingham. And to tell you the truth it seems to be one of the best B&S songs ever... In Nottingham (correct me if I'm wrong), Stuart Murdoch dedicated this song to Allan Sillitoe, the author of "The Loneliness of a Long Distance Runner". A.S. lived in Nottingham actually and he studied at the Marcus Garvey College (where the gig took place). Once again, correct me if I'm mistaking (duke : is it what Stuart said?). Anyway, it seems to make sense : Allan Sillitoe is sometimes described as the English Salinger, and I must confess the character described in his novel (short story I should say) is rather close to Holden from "Catcher in the Rye"... and close to many characters in B&S songs... Sinister: mummy, don't forget the honey

I hope everyone has taken a few minutes to write a get-well note to Honey. Think of all the things he has done for you--as in running this list. He does it for LOVE of the music, which I assume is the reason we are all here too. Think of his face (or the scribbly face from the People Page) beaming with joy at all the lovely messages from the Sinisterines when Splat brings him the post. (Email MWaggner(a)aol.com for his address). Think of all the beautiful foreign stamps that would cheer his day on post from faraway lands. It is the least one could do. Though, it is by far _more_ than making piss- poor jokes about the entire populations of places one has never visited. One of my favorite parts of Sinister is that I have become penpals with lovely folks from Brazil, Greece, Thailand, France, England, and countless other places. We write about our PASSION for music, B&S and otherwise, and what passes the days. These people may live far away (I live in New Jersey), but we have a lot in common. They help one remember that there are others out there who feel the same as you. I don't have time for negativity. Has anyone heard the recents comps of Pale Fountains and Josef K on Marina? I am looking for music to listen to as I watch the autumn leaves fall. The Tracey Thorn solo album works well too; it reminds me of my week alone in Paris and Brussels this time last year. It's time for tea.
