Did anyone see the news last night? It was great, there were some Australian sailors who had had something or other hammered up their bumholes to celebrate crossing the equator for the first time. What a fantastic idea! Have Belle and Sebastian crossed the equator yet? I think they should have their musical instruments shoved right up their arses when they eventually cross the equator. Just think, Mick and Sarah could carry on playing their trumpet and melodica without any problem, albeit a bit less tunefully than usual. Richard could make some kind of pathetic percussion noise if he had a drumstick rammed up his rectum, but Messers Murdoch and Jackson would be nothing short of useless with guitars up their respective back passages, unless they had some kind of bum-axe duel, like Blue Oyster Cult used to have. Chris would have serious difficulties walking, never mind anything else, with a Wurlitzer piano lodged between his buttocks, but nothing is impossible, and if he tones up his botty muscles I'm sure he'll be able to manage a tune or two, or a simple riff at least. On second thoughts, this is such a good idea, it'd be a shame to waste it on the equator. I think they should have their instruments hammered up their bottoms with a meat mallet every time they cross the Greenwich Meridian. What better way to promote the new album? I can't see Stuart Murdoch refusing to be interviewed with a bloody big guitar sticking out of his arse, can you? The opportunities for petulance are seriously reduced with a musical instrument up your jacksie. I nearly bought a record yesterday, Rawkus Big Todgers Volume 2, or something like that, but I chickened out because it said "mixed by" DJ someone or other, so I thought it might be one of those Jive Bunny things. I wonder if I did right or wrong? Also, did anyone tape Daltry on "The Bill"? Can anyone tell me what role he was playing, and whether he whacked anyone with a chair leg, like in "McVicar"? Hello chaps, and a big hello to everyone that I met at the London picnics last weekend. I can only grovel and apologise about my drunken behaviour, but I enjoyed myself and I hope everyone else did too. I just had a wee look at the offending Melody Maker review of Tigermilk that someone mentioned earlier. I think though that it is rather telling that the aforementioned article is in the same edition as the Battle Of Rock between the mighty Metallica and the fantabulous Stereophonics. (Irony 110% intended). I suppose when a magazines readers rate Mansun, Catatonia and the Stereophonics above all others what can we expect. Have the details of Track & Field been posted yet? I dont think so, so Im going to do that now. Its to be found on Farringdon Rd, which not surprisingly, is near Farringdon station, in a pub called The Betsey Trotwood. It commences at 8pm and finshes at 1am, and they play all sorts of stuff, and maybe this time they might have more than one b&s record. here's hoping. If any of you cheeky scoundrels want any more details of how to get there or anything, email me privately and Ill try my very best to help. Presumably lots of you did, too. So does anyone know who the woman on it is? It's not Isobel and doesn't look much like Sarah. Could it be Katrina... or some other associate of the band? hi guys I was at the Looper show in SF yesterday. Wonderful performance!!!! Anyhow, I really wanted to buy that adorable t-shirt they had for sale, but alas, i waited too late and they ran out before I even had a chance :( . I was wondering if anyone planning to go to any of their shows in the near future could pick one up for me? I wanted a red one in size small, but the size is more important to me than the color, so i wouldn't mind purple at all. someone just used the greeting "hello poptarts" and i like it quite well, so i'm going to blatantly and proudly purloin it... hello, poptarts! mmm, that was nice. ach! have you newyork listees realized that the looper show (in 2 weeks, 2 days!) is part of this silly digital club fest thing? you can buy a badge for $50 and see all the bands that are part of the festival (and actually this is quite cheap and impressive, considering the number of amazing bands)... some shows you can see individually -- like looper -- and some you MUST have a badge to see -- like the promise ring, which makes me so, so sad... i despair of ever catching them live... anyway, i wonder if, if there's all these privileged people with badges running around, and the shows are all first come, first serve regardless, will we have trouble getting into the looper show? i haven't bought tix yet, as my paycheck arrives next thursday... perhaps i'm just a worrier. oh, the pronunciation thing: --- Mark Kolmar <mark(a)burningrome.com> wrote: > In American English, consonants don't take their > full value as much as in British English (exceptions > include "r" after a vowel). this would be because Standard American English is rhotic, that is, retaining the "r" sound. except in places like boston, where the dialect is conservative -- more like Received Pronunciation. sheesh, i'm a nerd, but i took this history of the english language class and....
