Battle of the Planets. According to the sixteen odd replies I got! My mind is at rest. Sorry to everyone for 1. bugging you with that thought, 2. not mentioning the following cool cartoons from the 80's, as I have been reminded by my fellow listers.... will o the wisp Dogtanian Dangermouse. I'd like to add a few things of my own here... Does anyone remember (and I doubt anyone will) when Kenneth Williams was on Blue Peter and he and Janet Ellis made Will O The Wisp characters, using coloured pipe cleaners? I wish I could remember how they did that. I loved Dogtanian, in the summer this year, me and some work cleegeues were e mailing the songwords round the office, and everyone had it stuck in their heads. All for one and one for all, Muskerhounds are always ready, One for all and all for one, Helping everybody.... etc etc etc. And as for other shows... Degrassi High (with the geek kid whop looks like Ross off of Friends) The Red Hand Gang (always with choppers) and by the way, pole position was the one with the two cars, one red one blue, with robots things in them and they were always racing. Battle of the Planets was CLASS. pure ClASS. Kids shows nowadays do not match up, in PURE, CLASSNESS. Oh my god! I found a Battle of the Planets theme MP3 thing!! coooooooooool!!! Idleberry, I think the cartoon you are thinking of is "Battle of the Planets". It was Japanese, hence the similarities to Pokemon. The little robot (7 Zark 7) was not on the spaceship, though, it was in an undersea base called Center Neptune. The voice was provided by Alan Young and every so often a message came through from a robot called Susan (who lived on Pluto) with a voice even sexier than the Cadbury's Caramel bunny and 7 Zark 7's antennae would respond in a priapic fashion. 7 Zark 7 didn't do very much apart from pace up and down and every so often he was able to fly by means of a cape on his back which assumed a sort of concertina shape, as the fancy took him. The commader of the group on the spaceship (who were called G-Force) was actually a Dr. (or possibly Professor) Anderson, who wore a white labcoat and had glasses which didn't have the bits that go on your ears (sorry, don't know the technical term for these), maybe they were pince-nez, who knows? There were five people in G-force, called Mark, Jason, Princess, keop and Tiny (who, ironically, wasn't). They all piloted different vehicles, these being, respectively, a plane (which started off with a propeller but then changed into a jet when Mark waved his watch in front of his face in a dramatic fashion and said "Transmute!"), a sportscar, a motorbike, a weird stilted vehicle and the spaceship itself (which the other vehicles all slotted into...there were lots of similarities with Thunderbirds and Gerry Anderson should sue). The spaceship was called the Phoenix. Every episode was sent fighting against a caped, masked character called Zoltar who came from the planet Specter. Somehow or other, Zoltar or one of his cromies had managed to secrete a large robotic machine of mass destruction inside the Taj Mahal/Great pyramid/Mount Rushmore (delete as appropriate) which would emerge and wreak havoc of Godzillaesque proportions. Oh and Mark was voiced by Keye Luke, who was also Number One son in the Charlie Chan movies. "I'll stop being sad now" I can be sadder though. Battle of the Planets was a heavily sanitised version of the Japanese original (called "Ninja Science Team Gatchaman" or something). The American production company removed large amounts of violence and swearing to make it acceptable for western audiences and added the 7 Zark 7 footage to fill in the gaps and explain that the massive body count at the end of each episode was "actually robots", kids. Sinister: So many words, so little time to say them

Hello one and all, Ah, it's been a long time spent in the shadows of lurkerdom for me, but now I emerge, blinking, into the light . . . I've got a zillion questions to ask. First of all, has anyone heard the new Gentle Waves album? Is it good? Is the earth round? (please don't feel free to insert comments about Isobel in here - I get enough of that from my 'humerous' housemates) Secondly, when does the auction start? If I had a talent I would have auctioned it, but apart from being quite good at playing Zelda I don't really have much to offer. Though if anyone would like any help with Zelda, I will gladly try. I think that the people that make Nintendo games must be on the Japanese version of Sinister, for they are surely the twee-est of all the people in the world. Well, behind a certain Miss Owl, but everyone knows that she's the twee-est lass ever :) Thirdly, which Orange Juice album is best? I bought The Orange Juice the other day and it was ok, but I decided to take it back and ask everyone here in case there's a better one. Oh, and what Pastels album should I buy (I don't have any at the moment, so which is the best?). People on this list have so far recommended Hefner, Felt and the Field Mice, so I will trust your judgement :) But (my Mum says you can't start a sentence with the word 'but' but I have, and she won't know, so mneurgh!!!) it's grate. Aha, 'what is grate?' I hear you collectively whisper (not cry, for ye art all timid as wee little miceys) . . . well, I do this university radio show at Kent, and I get a 5% discount at the fantabulous Rough Trade. As do all my listeners, cos my show is EXTRA EXTRA special. Oh yes. For I play all the best music ever. On which note, has anyone heard the single by a band called Junip? It's quite good, and I think you might like it, if you could just bring yourselves to trying it. A bit like Dr Pepper, though I don't really like that, and I have tried it (well, it was a tiny little sip, but that counts, doesn't it?). But (there I go starting sentences with 'but' again . . .) I might try Irn Bru one day. Did you know why it's called Irn Bru? Apparently back in the olden days if you named a product after something it had to have that special something in it (hence cocaine in Coca-Cola). And obviously you don't want to drink iron, now do you?? Oh dear, I'm rambling a bit (well, a lot). All I really wanted to say was how excited I am about my radio show, and the discount at the lovely Rough Trade and everything. So if anyone lives in Canterbury and has loads of time on their hands they could always e-mail me and I'll tell them all about the frequency. Or people could just e-mail me about the show (or anything else, really), even if they live far, far away. But not if they're a moke. yes, it was my birthday, yesterday. Same day as DDewar said au revoir to the world. Right! Can anyone help me remeber the name of an eighties TV cartoon? I don't remember it, but I'll try my best to describe it. It was of the same school of animation as Pokemon. There was a gang of them, and they flew around in jet shaped spaceships. They wore helmets with birds of prey painted on them. They returned to a huge spaceship, that was full of colourful panels as a computer thing. They had a robot pal, who sort of resembled R2-D2. And he sort of stayed in the big ship and told them what was happening, but he sort of had a C3-P0 voice. Their name had something to do with a bird of prey. It was very early 1980's, cos I was only a little girl, maybe only four or five, but I was in love with that programme. SOMEONE TELL ME THE NAME!! PLEEEEASE!!! ITS DRIVING ME MAD! Boyfriend can't remember the name either, but he remembers what it was about, as I do, and we sat last night on the net trying to find out what or where it was. We did however find a few other 80's cartoons... See what you remember... Belle and Sebastian (this is the content! heh heh!) Centurions Gobots (crappier version of transformers) Biskits Gummi Bears Pole Postion Defenders of the earth (DEFENDERS!) the Puppy's further adventures (remeber! Petey? Boyfriend downloaded the Uslesyees theme tune onto his pootah, and played it to me. I hated Ulesyes! It was creepy! some bizarre Jesus man going through Space (space always creeps me out... what if you run out of air??) to the sound of disco music. "Ules-eee-eee-eee-se.." yadda yadda. Ikk. Anyway. Oh Sinister list...let me hold you again! It has been so long. I am being Belle and Sebastian creative again.The last time was in grade 10 (Many a year ago..) with my little claymation-animation love story.I remember it still. Sebastian gave Belle a flower,and she ate it,but it turned out it was a poison flower,so they died in a heap in each others arms. No one saw that though, they all thought my tragic little clay-souls were having sex.Anyways,so we had to do silk-screening; 1st project of the year. How Wonderful,I thought. Now I can do a B&S Fashionable Tee of my own design. And I have done it..4 (!) times over.Oh,why WHY won't it work for me? Tonight will be my last attempt. It's a fun design: dancing girls with knee-high boots,concave midriffs and Flip hair-dos. I am also searching for a new job,and happened to stop by at Lush. You know, that artsy handmade cosmetics place with products that have names like Angels On Bare Skin, Silky Underwear, and Blue Skies. I entered the store,and Belle and Sebastian was playing. (..Chalet Lines,by the way) "Ahhhh,Belle and Sebastian!" says Genevieve, smiling brightly and pointing heavenwards.Salesgirl only nodded at me...so either she's thinking a)She must be an incredibly sweet and interesting person,someone I'd like to hire. I simply must have her! (Now! On the counter!) or b) punk-ass bitch..thinks she's all clever knowing MY band. So in that new Hefner song, Darren sings "Pin me down" Do you think he is wanting his-two-wrists-grasped firmly-by-one hand-pinned-above-his-head? Everyone longs for this. Even Honey,you know.Although she gives the impression of a prim little princess (hands folded neatly in lap,docile eyes) with her crinoline skirt always freshly pressed, she frequents with robust farmhands... ay up just wondering if anyone else suffers from bizarre B&S coincidences cos I seem to. First one of my lecturters told me she went to uni with stevie and that he used to take his guitar to parties and serenaded her at her birthday, which was cool but would have been cooler if she wasn't such a bitch. next it seems that my friend Toni has been moved out of her flat and moved to a new place upstairs 'cos Chris Geddes has moved into her old flat. Mail keeps getting mixed up with them and everytime she goes round to sort it out he gets scared of her apparently. anyway does this sort of thing happen to everyone else or are they like some normal band that you don't run into constantly to you guys? by the way ally cook decided to cough and splutter about me being single, why he did this I don't know, I usually am single, comes as part of being an ugly cunt. Sinister: A mixed evening for Scotland

DELETE NOW! (or face the consequences of my incoherent ramblings). Little B&S content, save they are Scottish, and, although I've been lurking lately, I thought I'd say something about Scotland tonight. I felt quite moved after listening to the news about Donald Dewar's death. I don't have much time for politicians normally, but Donald seemed like a thoroughly good egg, and stood out from the crowd in the way he conducted himself. So, I was feeling a little sad when I tuned in to see what I thought would be Scotland receiving the anticpated humping from the splendid Croatia in Zagreb. What followed would have been enjoyed by Mr Dewar I'm sure. A great performance from Craig Brown's men, with the cuddly, squeaky-voiced coach banished to the stand for being too passionate. Also, congrats to the English for improving on their recent dismal performance against Germany, and getting an excellent draw against the mighty Finns. Well done chaps, and that goal was definitely in. Never mind, eh? So, from death to football. Just change channel. Life, as they say, goes on. But not for Donald sadly, a man who never got the chance to enjoy his retirement and to relish the fruits of his labours. He lived to work, and that in a way, makes his "passing" all the more poignant. It's probably too soon and irrelevant to write all this crap, but sometimes you don't know how much a public figure had earnt your respect and admiration until it's too late.
