I was wondering through the bookshop one fine day, trying to decide what to buy. I knew that something was missing in my life, but I couldn't quite put a finger o it. Then it hit me.... 'I know what I need!', I cried, much to the astonishment of the other browsers in the shop. I rushed to the counter, and explained to the spotty boy sat there; 'I'm looking for a book which is way too long, written by a Sylvia Plath wannabe, which charts her life in a totally uninteresting way and which is guarenteed to leave me feeling really shit afterwards' 'Why certainly', replied the spotty boy, 'we have just the book for you...' he lead me to the 'shite fiction' section, and found me a copy of Prozac Nation by the Wortzul... it was perfect. 'And in buying this', he reassured me, 'you're helping the silly cow make EVEN MORE PROFIT out of her own depression'. Wow... what a concept. Sinister-village? After our lovey-dovey weekend 'a Paris' and not being able to trace in most of the cases where the crunchy baguettes that every Parisian carries under their arm at lunchtime every day, Boyfriend ***** came up with this wonderful idea : -LET'S OPEN A 'BOULANGERIE' WHICH WILL BE CALLED 'LA PASTIE DE LA BURGEOISIE' The old plan 'what to do the rest of our lives as we cannot stay idle students forever and ever' was also Belle and Sebastian-inspired, though in a more contrived way,let's say.When in Camber Sands, we exchanged to see Looper for enjoying a very,very tasty and delicious cream tea in Rye, realising there was no opportunities to have cream teas in Nottingham to our dismay.So, we were to open a traditional,very British 'salon-du-the', though my Mediterranean accent threaten to spoil the plan to emulate such a Victorian enterprise. No doubt that if you are not Parisian (born or adopted), there is no way to find a boulangerie open,especially on Sunday,and Parisian bakeries are 'la creme de la creme' among bakeries, so ours will be placed in a very exclusive and difficult to find corner in that Sinisterian village to be, only for its inhabitants.No tourists.Tourists are smelly and wear thick,wolly socks matching orthopedic sandals. Boyfriend is much better at baking, so for him the waking-up very early :)), and managing , taxes,accountancy,legal aspects , PR for me. Someone else maybe needed at tills if anyone fancying to apply and thinks will look cute with that funny white thing on the head and inmaculate pram. Shape your future in a Belle-and-Sebastian way. Become a baker! Sinister: compulsory report

Dear sirs and madams, I have noticed it is the custom to report any B&S-related dreams to the list. In the past I refused to believe such dreams actually occurred, however I had my first one on Saturday night. My and my friend Daragh (long time lurker on this list, incidentally) went to see B&S in the assembly hall of a primary school. The stage was adorned with these bizarre modernist structures of wire and chrome, and the whole stage moved up and down on a huge hydraulic steel pillar. There was a small bar on a balcony that only sold steins of Harp. I bought two at a time, but Nick Cave was there and he kept following me around and stealing my drinks (!). When B&S took to the stage, I noticed that Stuart M was blind drunk and barely capable of performing. He was agressively drunk, in fact, and kept cracking these Bernard Manning-type jokes and insulting the audience. They started playing a new song and it was terrible, and I noticed that my friend Tony had replaced Stuart D on bass. Then I woke up. Ah well. Other TITbits: *Has anyone been drinking agwa? We've been at it constantly for a week. It's a shooter, like Aftershock but slightly less medicinal-tasting. *The video for Dog on Wheels was on Alternative Nation a couple of weeks back. I'd never seen it before. There's stuart m engaging in all manner of unlawful activity, like spraying graffiti on walls and hanging off bridges. The yob. *I must make a musical reccomendation to everybody on the list - Sigur Ros. There was a song of theirs on a free cd with NME two weeks ago, and it was utterly captivating, so I went out the next day and bought their e.p. It is superb. Somewhere between Mogwai and Godspeed, but more sweeping and orchestral. Sinister: 20 seconds to comply...

...no i have no idea what you're supposed to comply to either, but i'm listening to one of them 'on the floor at the boutique' mix cd's at the mo (it's the lo fidelity allstars one, tres impressive, mostly) and this choooon is hilarious...this guy keeps intoning in all seriousness '20 seconds to complyyyyyyy' in a very scary gladiator-type voice...kind of like when john anderson used to say 'contestants rrrrrreaddy' that kind of macho power thing.... anywaaaaay, it's all been very exciting and political round here this past 7 days hasn't it?? quite refreshing, shame that the week wasn't topped off by a red ken win. although it would be dead difficult for me to boycott stagecoach (their buses get me to school, there is no way i'm walking the 7 mile round trip...mind you not being able to use the bus on principle would be a better excuse than the one about zoe ball i've been trying to fob my teachers off with...3 times now she's failed to wake me up and instead become incorporated into whatever dream i've been having at the time...i've had to switch to five live...), i have been defrauding stagecoach since september by using my expired bus pass...and there is a fair number of forgeries doing the rounds. we're doing our bit! hit them where it hurts...the wallet (where did you think i was going to say???) talking about boycotts, BOYCOTT MORRELLS PUBS. it is a long twisted tale as to why, involving decades of trying to relocate oxford united's stadium, the growth of the blackbird leys estate, an out of date covenant, and requires an awful lot of legal knowledge which i won't bore you with (if you're interested have a look at www.welcome.to/foul or www.rageon.freeserve.co.uk )...but basically oxford united have been rescued from extinction twice over the past 11 years and now it could be third time unlucky...the morrells brewery are threatening legal action against the building of our *new* half finished stadium...if this happens our owner will probably walk out leaving us facing possible expulsion and/or extinction, so BOYCOTT the stupid bastards (they will almost certainly make more money - which is all they seem to care about - out of the stadium going ahead)....i'm sorry for the blatant list abuse but i wouldn't ask if it wasn't important, and judging by the amount of football discussed in chat yesterday i figured enough people might care. <okay, passionate but probably dull rant over...you can come back...please?> the most exciting developments of the week has got to be the sinister village, i was beside myself with the thought of this fantastic, if mythical place (though we could do a castaway 2000, i'm sure channel 4 would fund it)...could i pleeeeease be in charge of the sinister football team?? i don't want to play or anything (well, my lungs don't, i still think i'm a bit nifty on the wing...) but the thought of a board and marker pens and tactical discussions and teamsheets...ooh! <rachel is now dancing round her living room hugging herself in gleeful anticipation...sad sad girl...> but then again i could bring my unique checkout operating/shelf stacking skills to the sini-supermarket, which i think should be located near the chippy and the record shop for ease of access. though i don't know if that would help my financial situation.... i went into town on saturday simply to buy the new all saints and animalhouse singles...i came back with my intended purchases but also another £30 lighter cos that bastard 5 for 30 quid deal in virgin worked it's evil magic on me...honestly, i didn't mean to buy anything else, it just sucked me in...still, nice to see jeepster are represented in this clearout, i spotted the gentle waves (ha ha! though mind you i shouldn't laugh, i bought it at FULL PRICE), and less amusingly, snow patrol...i nearly bought it again cos i could only find 4 cds i wanted, but then i finally decided to go for mercury rev...i like it, but that voice does my head in after a while, really whiny. anyway, have to go and stand in a supermarket now lovin' and leavin' you rachel xxx +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. Sinister: Wooden spoon sounds

Greetings, I've just discovered the woonderfully warm sound that can be made by banging a wooden spoon on the bottom of a pan of porridge. An addictive action really: I could have spent the whole day by the oven, tapping away. But the porridge began to stick to the bottom of the pan so I had to tear myself away and enjoy the almost equal pleasure of consuming a whole pan of the stuff. It's quite odd really, this is my first message to the list, and I guess I should have something more relevant to spurge about than the random music of my kitchen utensils. Still, that's life, and I've never been very good at introducing myself. I'll call it shyness, or shyety or a tendancy towards being shy. Whichever takes your fancy really. Thanks to Alex Tobin for sending the url for that great interview with the Jeepster organisation. It was a nice change to receive something informative rather than the puerile nappy smut that those brit kids seem to be obsessed with.
