Well, here's another new face in the Sinister sea. I've been out of the nursery for some time, but despite Miss Honey's tender push which thrust me into Sini-land, I've been mostly sitting in the corner still sucking my thumb and listening to the big people talk about arse muscles. But then Jen said hi to me, which I must admit made me blush a bit. I still hadn't anything to say though, so I kept my thumb lodged between my teeth. Something I'd like to tell Jen though, is to avoid boys like the plague. You'll always be disappointed. I've made that my rule to live by because it seems that their main law of life is to avoid me like the plague. So at least we're in agreement. Whoever said girls mature faster than boys was dead-on. Now maybe I've got a reason to post, because I found something Loopery for people who like that sort of stuff. At Gigmania there's about an hour of realvideo of a Looper gig in NYC from who knows when. My sadness at Stu's leaving was quickly replaced by happiness that I'll be able to see him, since people like him mean a lot to 15 year old American kids like myself. Or at least it's an excuse to miss a violin lesson that night. If I'm struck by anything else BLUDDY GRATE I'll let you all know, but I doubt it. This will probably do it for the year. [community events] Thursday night I ran into my friend Lily in the convenience store across the street at about ten o'clock when I went out to get some dragon food. I must have been tired because when she said hi she told me that she'd had teenage head in her basement. I'd figured I had pretty much heard about every possible variation on oral sex, this teenage thing escaped me though. However, it turned out that what she was telling me was that she had most of the band called Teenage Head rehearsing in her basement. This seemed to make much more sense to me as I really did not want to discuss my misinterpretation in the munchie snacks section of the store. For those who have no idea who Teenage Head was or wasn't, they were a band from the eighties, I think. I am not sure how popular they ever became because I hate most of the 80s music. With particular emphasis on any of the Canadian crap from that period. Legislation requires a certain percentage of content be Canadian which results in considerable overplay of bad music. The only thing that I can remember about Teenage Head was a controversy over their name when they were playing somewhere. So what this whole episode tells me is that all those really bad bands from the 80s are still out there somewhere, and we must be diligent or else they may come back. I image there are basements all over the place where this underground network has them plotting some devious scheme. Those of you who may be purchasing a home in the near future should pay close attention to the basements or else you may just end up with real estate that has some 80s band in the basement bringing the value down for the entire neighbourhood. I imagine they are like termites, roaches and mice that when you get them they are difficult to eradicate. Could you imagine coming home from work only to discover Loverboy wearing red leather and sitting on your couch? <shudder> Okay, I'll admit that for some of you that may be a good thing. Evening all. Arse muscles clenched? Then I'll begin. I don't think we can blame Baby Chris's confusion on his age. I mean, I'm roughly twice Chris's age, and I'm still confused. I'm very much in favour of gay rights, yet I don't want anything up my bum. Except perhaps the odd pencil. Unlike most people, I think Stuart David's songs are better in B&S albums or EPs. It's only when they're all together in a Looper album that they send me into a smelly-trainered dogbreath coma. I think he was henpecked into leaving B&S. Mrs David probably said "but Stuart they only let you have one track on the last album, and it wasn't even about me and I'm not on stage when they play so you can't gaze lovingly at me because if you don't I'll fucking clout you one and they hardly ever go to America where independent films are made when are we going to make an independent film? I want to make an independent film and have it shown at Sundance and it'll be about you and me, but mostly me and I'm sick of people calling you that Belle and Sebastian guy I want people to call you that ex-Belle and Sebastian guy and ask you why you left every time we do an interview with a fanzine in America, have you changed your nappy today? this morning, something strange happened. perhaps not so strange to you, but odd for me. most of my thoughts are usually directed toward my future. anything to get me out of my current bout with nondirectionism. this morning whilst standing over the stove making a broccoli and cheese omelet (im not sure if i invented it or not, but its bloody grate!!), i heard my sisters singing and playing in the basement (ages 3 and 5). forgetting about the fact that the song was about poo-poo, hearing them sing made me miss my childhood, and made me want to be young again. after i ate i went down stairs to get dressed for work, when i heard my sister put on her scoobie-doo cassette tape. at which point, she and my other sis began spinning around a large pole we have in the basement until they felt sick. now, i know everyone has heard these songs that were on the tape, all of those happy sings like 'seven days a week' and such from the 60s (70s?). for some reason those songs, and my sisters tom-foolery made me miss childhood. so for the rest of the day, i vowed to be a kid again. of course this didnt last long, once i got to work it was back to asshole/slacker jason. moral of the story? dont grow up...but if you do, dont look back. still no jeepster bag <sigh> behave yourselves, but not too much, its the weekend after all ~jason the youngest member of the geriatrics community +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. Sinister: i am evil, someone hit me

Hi sinister! Eeevil things have been happening to me. Firstly, the DATE with the BOY called Barry, was crap, namely couse he's a boring old git who's converstional skills generally run out once he's finished talking about Doctor Who. No offence to Doctor Who fans but do I really want to sit for a BLUDDY HOUR listening about how the thing on the Dalek's side got changed to the other side of it in the fiftieth series because of camera problems? No I don't, and I don't want to get off with someone who has bits of food stuck in his braces. Oh and he's a complete moke. So I'm trying to tell him I hate him in a nice way, but he's so bluddy thick he doesn't get it. The next evil thing I did was with my friend. This girl in school has been giving me LOADS of stick, and I'm a complete wimp so, instead of standing up to her and getting punched I ordered 10 ham and mushroom pizzas round to her house from a really really expensive pizza delivery place. Don't tell anyone though, because if she finds out I'll get the beating of my life. On a nice note, someone wanted to fight me, but I'm a lot bigger than her, and the only reason that she told everyone was because she knew I serious don't believe in fighting and violence (exept on the telly and in books) and prolly wouldn't show up. But I did show up, and I said "I'm not going to fight you, but if you're going to hit me then go ahead because I really want to go home now" and for a second I thought she was going to belt me one so I shut me eyes, and when I opened them she was walking off, and everyone thought she was a moke, but really only cos they wanted to see me get hit. But the reason this is nice is because I'm still in one piece. The daily record did a miniscule article on Stuart D leaving but it was only a couple of lines. I don't think he should leave because I was hoping there would be another book in the line of Ink Polariods and Little Ink Movies. Like Little Ink DVD's with interactive camera angles. I ordered those two books today at the big bookshop in town. The guy there gave me really dirty looks because he couldn't type and it took him half an hour to enter the big long titles into the computer. I still haven't seen the box set. I wonder if it actually exists. Has anyone seen it? We're doing sex in RE (as a topic, not actually practising it), and, without thinking, I asked the RE teacher what frigid meant quite loudly, and instantly regretted it, due to the male proportion of the class shouting out "you!". Look, my friends set it up, they thought it would be really funny. The whole gay thing's made me all upset. Since I'm a catholic, and I had a go at our parish priest for setting up a Keep The Clause campaign group in our church, because one of my friends, who by the way is also catholic, happens to be gay, and anyone who says there is something wrong with gay people is a moke, because he's really nice, and he doesn't deserve the crap he gets. And even if one of my friends wasn't gay, i still think that the clause thing is mega moke-ish. Also, let's not fight, and let's not all attack poor wee chris (who's older than me but that's not the point) with big fat axes. How do lesbains have sex? Wouldn't it be great if the whole world was full of belle and sebastian fans. That's completely unrelated, but all the belle and sebastian fans are nice with the exeption of me, for the reasons above. It's 1.30 am, so please excuse me and this e mail. Sinister: Ambient Ride

VAPOUR TRAIL I was wondering if anyone had a view on Will Calhoun's new 21" Ambient Ride. It says here that it delivers an amazingly big, breathy, multi-colored sound that rises up from deep within the dark, low-pitched soul of its thin, heavily hammered raw bronze. It fills the low- to mid- pitch ranges with an axotic roar dominated by natural acoustic tendencies, making the Ambient ideal for many styles, including Drum 'n' Bass, Funk and Jazz. 'This is a deep-space ride based on a primitive Jazz concept', Will has said. 'The sound of my stikc hitting the metal is like the snapping of twigs in a roaring fire... the strokes click within a funky wash of tone'. Now, you can't hear impassioned words like that and doubt the possibilities of newness in music. LIMEAID I was also wondering if anyone had any views on the word 'limn'. This has two senses: 1) to make a pictorial representation of (deriving from Latin re. light); 2) outer edge of the sun's disc (deriving from Latin re. edge [?]). I take it that the latter usage may, in fact, be related to our 'liminal'. The word 'limb' is something else altogether, although I'm not sure about 'limbo'. Anyway, the question is, what are these seemingly related words doing hanging around near each other, when they seem to have radically different etymologies? IN THE CLOUDS Yes, that's an All About Eve reference. Well, it could be. Does anyone share my sense that as you get older, the clouds seem to move faster? I seem to recall, as a child, looking up and finding their movements imperceptible. Now they scoot overhead like there's no tomorrow. If the movement of the clouds is seen as a metaphor of sorts for time as such, then perhaps this is a pretty straightforward sign that the Down escalator is picking up speed. The same goes, I might add, for clocks. You can't tell me that clock hands always moved so visibly.
