there seems to have been something of a dearth of messages lately. maybe everyone's out enjoying the sun, or actually doing interesting and exciting stuff. god, we can't have that...or maybe it's just that i'm checking my mail more regularly now that i've finished college (*forever!*) and have nothing else to do, rather than leaving it for two weeks and trying to get through two hundred in one go. so, are any other proud bus pass carriers somewhat perturbed by stuart's new car? is it just me who thinks that car drivers are intrinsically evil? maybe we should round up a gang of young hyndland thugs (this is irony) to scratch max's sides with coins. he does have leather seats mind...how morrissey. but i hope it doesn't mean we'll be subjected to a glut of chris rea/brian may type songs about being in love with a car, or indeed, 'cruisin' down the 'highway'. maybe the b+s movie could be a road movie, though. a kinda remake of vanishing point, set on the m8...how existential. i'd be willing to play either the dj or the nakey girlie on the motorbike... there was a guy called 'fatty' playing football for turkey tonight. i was hoping it might be the boy from the bash street kids...a bit unlikely, i guess ...cartoon characters rarely get the international recognition they deserve. i don't think he was even turkish anyway. message to all wages slaves (or indeed anyone who actually has to leave the house in the morning to do *anything*) - i spent today sitting in the sun, doing nothing. i intend to do the same tomorrow. i don't have any money to do anything else, true, but it's quite fun just now. enjoy work ian n ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Sinister: Midlands picnic details delete if uninterested

Hi all those tired of the Northern and southern meetups :) I have the official go ahead (after fussing and confusion *grins*) from the organisers to announce that the MIDLANDS picnic/meetup will take place on July the 15th at Endcliffe Park in Sheffield. Sinister: London Summer Picnic

Hello hello littles friends, Well, I guess the title says it all. I am sure a lot of London listees are either stuck in the office or stuck in London anyway, so a summer picnic might cheer you up (or the wine will if the picnic doesn't) So....here we go, the factual facts are the following: - Where: Primrose Hill, near Camden Station - When: Saturday 8th of July, around 2pm As for the picnic bag, you might fill it up as you want to, trying not to forget your drinks, crisps, sandwiches (hand-made or not)and other common picnic dishes. Of course any football, frisbee or cricket-set is very welcome, if you want to do a bit of exercise after lunch, as well as any stereo or guitar or even ukelele. As for the meeting point...well I guess we could say the top of the hill, which is simple really: wen you can't climb anymore you're at the right place, where you will probably find some fellows listees already drinking wine and eating brie... Hi Sin Sisters, So the new album's pants, B&S have gone to the dogs, & Sinister's not like it used to be in the good old days. Hmmmmmmmmm. Scores on the Moore's simple do-I-like-the-songs? meter Tigermilk 6/10 IYFS 6/10 TBWTAS 5/12 FELCHYLAP* 7/11 I think the "problem", if there actually is one, lies with the single :) I was really staggered to see Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying top the recent Sinister B&S song poll. My affection for songs is driven by the music first, then the delivery of the lyrics, & then the words maybe get a look in after that. GMAFH,ID sounds like Stuart was in a tearing hurry to finish the vocal take and get off down the pub or go for a bag of chips. Similar bafflement was evoked by I Don't Love Anyone appearing in the "least favourite" part of the chart. What's going on there, then? I fail to see anyone not being impressed with the emotional truth of the performance. Perhaps my opinion is influenced by having seen a live performance from close up. Or maybe I'm a just greybeard who can still remember Blind Faith. Why no reports of the Embra picnic? How was it? I hope everyone had fine weather & a great time, especially those borne there on the Wings Of Love. I know I'm asking this on the wrong list, apologies, but did anyone get a good tape of all of the Cinerama performance on John Peel last night? Sinister: Belle and Sebastian the Unstoppable Sex Machine

Bonjourno I had a dream last night, that Belle and Sebastian were on telly, playing a song with Jim Bob from Carter USM. I can't remember how it went, but I remember that there was a man at the back, who kept blowing a whistle and saying things, Parklife style. He wore big trousers. I thought it was a rather good song. Then Stuart's arms turned to bacon and he was eaten by the dog. That interview with Stuart was interesting because it revealed a bit about how he thinks. I remember when Pulp released This Is Hardcore, and me and my friend couldn't understand how Jarvis could write an ace song like Dishes, then write a song like Glory Days, without noticing it was a bit crap. So it's nice to know that Stuart's critical of his songs. It's a good way to be. I just hope he doesn't listen to the ramblings of the slightly bonkers and frighteningly named Sinister List organisation. Nutters. I also like the way the group likes to do things in its own flighty, boho way. Hmmm... Mey monkeys New album bit: I like it, they haven't got too lardy and lame really, have they? It's good how every opening song is better than the one on the last album, I think, and this opening song is the best on the whole record. Which means I don't have to bother listening to the rest, which is a relief. I'm joking. Am I ever not? Shirtlifters on the world unite and take over. I just felt like saying that. Why is it that when you reach a certain age you start using the path instead of trampling all over the grass? Or is it just me? There seems to be a politeness/civil decency gene which only activates at a certain point in time. It may be a different age for everyone, I don't know. I even stopped playing football in the car-park outside my house when a woman asked me to the other day. When I was a lad we used to just wait for the police to turn up. Not only did they run an editorial the other week saying that anyone who defends Section 28/2a is basically an idiot (prompting lots of hilarious "You've lost another reader, you know!" letters), but they also had the bestest TV listing ever. Sinister: All trousers, no mouth

Mes braves, mes braves It's been a long time. Too long. The last time I posted to sinister sabre-toothed tigers roamed freely, England had left-sided footballers and Northy was still on the list. Ah.... happy days. It was all green fields round here, you know, not like the sinister megalopolis of today. All we had were a few lame jokes about lemurs, the duke's lecturers on P!O!O!P and a hot toddy from old Mrs Murdoch to keep us going through the harsh winters... And lately, you know, I feel I've lost that extra yard of pace. The touch has gone. Once upon a time I could look down from the lofty heights of the crush list on my comrades below; now I languish lonely and unloved in a hellish nether-zone, like some Preston North-End of the list's affections. And frankly, I would rather fall on my sword in some last gesture of nobility than suffer the humiliation of turning up at list picnics and saying "Don't you KNOW who I AM????". And so this is my way, my friends, of bidding you farewell. I will miss you, like the deserts miss the rain, like Heskey misses crosses. There will be a gaping hole in my life, no longer to be filled with details of the revision schedules of American undergraduates, metrosexual drunken hi-jinks, news from Thailand or notices from indie nightclubs in Sheffield. I'll manage somehow... So to the Fragrant Princess Honey I say: thank you, for having me, miss. To the rest of you I say: play nice. And if you're around tomorrow (ie Friday 16th June - which Joyceans will recognise as Bloomsday) come along and help me celebrate my last day at the Society we call "Poetry" at the PoCaff in Covent Garden from 8pm, where those lonesome Pinespeople will be singing sweet sad songs of regret, and some bunged-up 1940s schoolboys called the Clientele will be twangling heartstrings with no little aplomb.
