Right!! Who started all this Pink Floyd Bollocks?? Come on ....Own up! I can't believe I've been drawn in to this debacle! They are / were a load of shite......always!! They are middle of the road pants....often touted by scallies in the mid eighties because they were without the capability of musical reason and behaved with pack mentality. Their so called crowning moment.....the wall....I watched completely untouched! Why are we talking about them....please god dont say that someone compared them to B & S.....If that did occur then what can we do to get that person expelled from this list as they obviously have no musical reasoning whatsoever either!! Allou Lawrence, Are you talking about the 2 cd compilation album entitled "Where'd You Learn To Kiss That Way?" If so, then it is quite a good purchase ... whether or not one is a Field Mice fan. It contains essentials and other what-nots and comes armed with detailed liner notes written by Claire Wadd of the legendary Sarah records. Among the Sarah set, Field Mice is up there (for me) along with Keith and Paul's Blueboy and the much missed Orchids. They have a very very fantastic way of concocting pop songs and singer Bobby Wratten's lyrics are as stark, oftentimes depressed, visual, and moving as those of Belle and Sebastian's. An output of them would surely be worth someone's while. Also check out their offshoot groups like the Northern Picture Library, Another Sunny Day, Thirteen Iced Bears and the Trembling Blue Stars if you have the chance. They can compliment the imageries that can be painted by an output like, say, If You Are Feeling Sinister. I'm taking a silly history class this summer, and for this class we are watching a silly movie called One Two Three which stars James Cagney as an American working for Coca Cola in Berlin in the early 60s. He's trying to make Coke the "first American company to penetrate the Iron Curtain"...that is, getting Coke into Russia. Of course I'm reminded of the good old days when Magnetic Megan and I frolicked in Moscow, checking all the Russian arcades for Dance Dance Revolution, buying bootleg cds at the seedy cd market, and making photocopies of our faces at the Coca Cola headquarters. They make lemon Fanta in Russia, you know. It's yum. That, however, is not the point. Lately I've been having fantasies about Belle & Sebastian covering Suspicious Minds, and I'm a bit worried about my sanity. How great would it be though? Isobel and Sarah could sing the backup. "We can't go on together...with suspicious minds (With suspicious miiiiiinds), and we can't build our dreams on suspicious miiiiiiiiiiiinds". If that whole young Elvis/fat Elvis vote thing were going on again I'd put my money on Fat Elvis for that song alone. I'm caught in a trap, I can't walk out...because I love you too much babeeeee! I'd like to welcome Phil to the list...you don't know him yet, but you will, oh, you will. Phil is a smooth and slender Asian boy who spends his free time listening to hip hop and selling his underwear on ebay. After shoving some Magnetic Fields and Belle & Sebastian down his throat, I finally got him to admit that "This whitey music ain't half bad!" In return, I've been listening to a lot of De La Soul. The boy who plays the Commie in this movie is really cute, btw. Yesterday two of my favorite people in the whole Sinister world posted, Mark Casarotto and Marie-ree. I was a little disappointed that Mark didn't talk about his nob at all. Maybe he hadn't had enough to drink before posting? I think it's only fair that I warn all of you London lot that I'm applying for a study abroad program there in the spring, so I might be in your city for four whole months. You might want to start planning a welcoming party or else go about changing your phone numbers and moving flats now. Now, after all the talk about the London picnic(s), I thought about how there hasn't been a New York picnic in almost two years now. I'm going to plan one. I'm hoping to organize it around the Shelflife September Set so there'll be something to lure those of you who live and love on the outskirts of the city into the city itself. September set is grate and always full of bands I end up loving two months after the show (ie, the Lucksmiths, Aislers Set, Poundsign, Masters Of The Hemisphere in the last two years)...so come for the show, stay for the picnic. There'll be more info forthcoming...exact date, location, etc, when I become more motivated. it has been a while, i realize, so forgive me for being unchanged/not updated/not quick/quite slow/somewhat sluggish/or just plain boring. i just saw the WHO three times in the past two weeks and they were the best shows i've ever seen. it may be because i'm an obsessive fan who needs to be stopped, but they certainly were the best shows 'musically' despite the 'there are my heroes on the stage, let me soil my pants' feeling. for those of you who still love 70s WHO they played Bargain, The Seeker, Let's See Action, and I Don't Even Know Myself. great stuff. i just love the new b&s album. there's too much love is my favorite b&s song of all time. and i like family tree, very much. call me in the minority. whatever. hi to marie who just posted. sorry i've been very very slow on reading all of the posts, but i promise i will read every single one of them, i promse. i promise. ok so i fell in love last week and it sucked and was great at the same time. i was actually staying at a listee's house, well, sorta. well i was with a listee, at an arbitrary house. anyways we went to the barnes and noble in downtown philly and we went to the cafe, and saw everyone with their laptops and their frappathingees and there was this girl working there, making these hard to pronounce drinks, and i just totally fell in love. for those of you not there, i will describe her to you: she had sort of auburn/black hair, stretched back into two little pigtails, big colorful eyes, and a smile that was impeccably rabbit-like. it was a perfect combination of all the elements. and then she took off her blouse (easy, she had a shirt on underneath) because she said it was hot. hot indeed. yikes. anyways i did my shy routine and just said 'bye' on the way out. but that was it. and for the next two nights i didn't sleep very well and had stomach aches and all kinds of love sick things. it was horrible. and yet exciting and wonderful at the same time. very strange. i think i need to be committed for my stupidity. i remember her name, but i dare not say it here. it rhymes with 'kissy' though. ha. sorry for all of the smut. remember my age. is there any way that someone can turn back time? i'm slowly developing something that will do the trick. give me 60 years. i'll get back to you. bye for now blake the nerdy shy eyed pacifist silence is the sound of the wind masturbating. http://members.tripod.com/nucleartrout +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. hello sinful ones. i recently became employed by a newspaper. last week, belle & sebastian graced the cover of the arts section. a big huge photo of isobel in legalgirl gear. mm mm mmm! anyway, despite the fact that the article said the same thing that all other articles these days say about the band, and despite the fact that the columnist referred to stevie as the drummer, it was a highly favorable article. since moving to a city, i now have the privilege of using public transportation every day. and i gotta say, it hasn't lost its luster yet. it is especially nice with struan's voice all soft yet magnified in my ears to block out the sounds of the people around me. unfortunately it often also blocks out the sound of the train operator muttering something like, "this train will only stop at such-and-such location" etc etc. anyway, so i of course am loving "there's too much love"... and because i like to transpose my own interpretations onto the works of others, i've decided that this could be a good coming-out song. "you say i've got another face... [blah blah blah] i am the same as you," "it's safer not to look around," "i can't hide my feelings anymore," "and when it comes to blows (heh heh, no not like you're thinking you dirty dirty kids) when i am numbering my foes, i just hope that you are on my side my dear..." yeah? is this making sense to anyone? yo, queer listees, help a sista out here. this ain't too far fetched is it? mark c., if martin mutters anything about some embarrassing comments i made on #sinister the other night, i have no idea what he's talking about. mick mcmick said: > "Always wear your B&S shirts. ...i'm BACK!!! <cue slightly embarrassed shoe staring and feet shuffling as no one catches the mad girl's eye...> no don't worry, i'm not REALLY a complete egomaniac, it's not as if i made a massive sinister impact last time i was here, didn't actually expect anyone to miss me, and now, on my return, i do not even have the wonderful e-mail addy of rachel(a)tigermilk.freeserve.co.uk anymore. it has been truly buggered up in my puter's nervous breakdown. i have been fairly distraught about this monumental loss, and i spent ages when i set up my hotmail account trying to get something b&s related (but with no extra numbers -it looks so messy) again. failed miserably, damn. couldn't get anything connected to mark owen either which both upset and exhilerated me...i'm not the only mark obsessive left, honest! d'you know the amount of bribing and cajoling i have to go through to get my cable-owning, bbc choice watching friends to tape mark owen's celebrity scooters for me? do you? oh my god my sinister return is already a humilitating experience... <desperate subject change time - how do i always get distracted on to embarrassing tangents? warning to you all, my posts are always like this, i do have a point to make when i start out, but it often gets meandered round on the way...ah, the word meandering, the only useful thing i learned in compulsory geography lessons. applies to rivers as well as the way i talk, and write> so, yeah, anyway how y'all doing then peeps? been up to anything exciting in the few months since i left you? no new single, album, lack of tour or anything like that going on? well, actually, don't all stampede to tell me what's been hip, happenin' or otherwise cos i have been in big brother mode and watching you. oh yes, the archives are fabulous things, though confession time, i have to admit i only really read the posts of people who were around when i left until i was back in the nursery, so i apologise to everyone else. i've had a couple of wicked b&s experiences in the last fortnight which i've been dying to share with you, so i was well chuffed when i finally got the call to relinquish the sini- play pen and can now bore you to tears. first up, we were sat in our local pub, me in a state of mental collapse due to it being the day before my last two exams (yes, a-levels are no more, positive thinking says i will not need to repeat, i will not need to repeat, i will...), and what does john the barman put on the cd player? tigermilk!!! i could have kissed him! as far as i know b&s have never been put on the star stereo before, and i haven't heard them since (i'm in there enough, i should know these things), it was just what i needed. i stayed for the whole of the album, went home much happier, with renewed revision impetus, and the next day i...probably failed my final exams...but y'know, i would have done worse without the unexpected dose of the belles at their most gorgeous. tigermilk still manages to suprise me, i can still find new...things (what a shit word, but this life has just come on and i'm slightly distracted) in it, which is my main gripe with fold your hands, it's already extremely familiar sounding and i've only had it for a bit. it's kind of boring, which given the amount of time i've waited for it is damn disappointing. anyway, been plenty of fishyclap reviews so i shan't add mine to the pile, but second great how-b&s-can-make-your-life-better-moment was when i was in the one decent club in oxford after completely failing to finish things with the boyf again (ongoing situation, have recently discovered that i am even more of a bitch than i thought, not only have i been unable to dump him twice, have told him i am in love with someone else, have fucked him about completely, and this weekend cheated on him. with someone he knows. though he doesn't know that yet because i've avoided his calls since. i am absolutely the lowest of the low and this revelation hurts, but hey, buffy's back on tomorrow after the wimbledon break so that's cool...nope, i can't even convince myself here...) so, yeah, was having extremely shit evening and skulking round the bar sneering when blink 182 came on (i still have my indie snob standards y'know...!)when out of the depths of my self loathing (and yes, i admit it, pathetic self pity, god you'd think i was a bloody radiohead fan the way i've been carrying on, oh no, i've just checked and i've not stooped that low yet) i heard the opening twangs of legal man, yay! and blimey does it sound 50 million times better at full volume with a dance floor at your disposal! cheered me up no end, and as it was fairly early on in the evening people weren't really up for it yet, but boy did the place go mental while b&s were on...ok, maybe it didn't go mental but the floor did begin to fill and loads of people started wearing euphoric / silly (delete as appropriate) grins on their faces which was heart warming to say the least. and i was ecstatically happy for a few minutes which makes a change. why can't more of my life be made up of these moments? I had this dream the other night...I was sitting in a pub talking to Pat Cash, Serena and Venus and we were all discussing which one of the Williams sisters was the more athletic. I said something I shouldn't have, so I made my way out of the pub and into the garden, which was actually my old garden back home. Belle and Sebastian were playing the end of 'Get me away from hear' followed by a song that I hadn't heard before. I was really excited as I had never seen them live so I ran upstairs to watch them from my bedroom window, for a better view. The band then prepared to play Legal Man, but just as they began to strum, the heavens opened and they had to run off inside and cancel the rest of the show. The band were really upset, especially Isobel who was crying her eyes out. I followed them back into the pub where Stuart ordered two coffees and half a lemonade. Stevie had one of the drinks, and he also had really bad acne. The band were then interviewed by a young kid reporting for Blue Peter, and I spent the rest of the dream nonchalantly walking past the TV camera, trying to get on Children's BBC...then I woke up. All this talk of libraries reminds me of a story my friend told me once...There was these boys at his school who managed to 'borrow' another boys blazer without him realising. They then sewed one of those magnetic strips out of a library book into his blazer where he would never find it. For the rest of this poor kid's school years, every time he walked out of the library the alarm went off and he had to be searched for nicked books.
