Hello sinisterians, Thoutght I ought to post you something with a little info while I have it. If anyone is interested in finding out more about the planet pop thing (I've had one or two asking how I came to know what I know. I said it was school. Until I realised they meant this) then go to http://www.planetpop.co.uk or pay a visit to Fopp in Glasgae or Embra for details. Tonight, I am off to the opening night of Planet Pop, at the Attic, in the cowgate, to see Silver Pill, Eska and Life Without Buoldings. If anyone wants to come along, and meet me ( a rare and special occasion!) then pop along. Don't know exactly what I shall wear yet, but hey, I'll be the girl with the corduroy flares, and possibly a green Blue Peter Badge. Nothing else. Going naked otherwise. Nude feet. The lot. Hello everybody! Ok, this is my first post so be gentle with me! It seems like i spent ages in the nursery, and i'm rather nervous about posting now with everyone else. so, i'm from northern Ireland, i'm 21 and i'm going to do an msc in computers, as i just fished my b.a in history in english. me and my friend simon are the only people i know who like belle and sebastian, so it's nice to hear from other people who have a bit of taste about them! anyhow, if there's anyone else from n.i. who'd like to meet up, drop me a line; everyone else seems to be having lots of fun picnics, so we should have one too!! and if anyone else is going to the angelica/astrid/aerial gig in the garage in london on wedensday, let me know, cos i'm coming to london for the week. ok, hope you're not all too bored now. bye. I bet I was missed, like a golfer missing the last hole that could've won him £90,000. Don't you hate it when you arrange to meet somebody at a certain fast food restaurant at Victoria station in London and then find out there are 2 of these bloody restuarents,GRRRR!. Still I got a GRATE Neutral Milk hotel from her, thank you ever- so. Select! published the Sturan car article about the lovely Max. I love that article ever such a lot it's so lovely & makes me feel warm and snugly inside. also no I know I'm no critic (I'll leave that to the rest of you) but it shows Stuarn relaxed and being very honest in his criticism of IYFS, which is still me second favourite B&S album, Tigermilk being my numero uno. The article almost makes my want a car, but then I'd have to give up my skateboarding & I can finally get up and down curbs so I'm quite proud of myself,my elbows though are so scarred, oh I'd absouloutly love to tour the U.S in a lovely old car imagine what fun it would be?, maybe next year. Talking of et U.S I hope I've not missed it but I hope all the N.Y listee have a cool time at there picnic, I've always wanted to go , anyway I hope you all have/had a lovely time. Finally I'm so very happy as the one the only Sophie-Ellis-Bexter is back in the music, even if it is on a dodgy dance record. My goodness me she is so lovely and her cheekbones oh they are to die for. Hi oh enlightened ones, Andy Dean, a dearly departed former founding listee sent the mail below on to me from his lovely big hairy cave so I'm sending it on. Thanks Andy. Some people really like the Acid House, but it nearly made me swallow a bottle of aspirin. If you want to catch B&S on it, I think you only have to watch maybe the first 15 minutes. Just lock the medicine cabinet. Lock, not lick, David Moore. I'm a bit scared about David's plans for the Sinister 3rd birthday now, I'm going to stay indoors and hide in a cupboard, with secure underwear on. If anyone can think of anything we could all do which doesn't involve an awful amount of effort then please do mail me. We could've had Steve Carsmile's world picnic day if we hadn't already, but that was ages ago and I imagine the bread is a bit stale by now, ants are crawling all over the jam, and a hedgehog is eating the sausage rolls. We could have a Sinister Underwear Day where we all promise to wear the same colour? Mail me suggested colours if you like it. Not the undies please, just the colours. Sinister: daughter of a french nobleman

First post to sinister Am I exciting? Am I shivering? Am I scared? Shall I spare you all? Who Am I? I'm Pauline L. Shivers obviously! I'm a daughter of a czech nobleman, not a french one mind you. My dad was a Bohemian aristocrat; but he lost everything because his father fell in love with his mother's maid.. and I'm telling you the truth. You see, my grandfather fell in love with this lovely peasant girl; but of course his father wouldn't accept a marriage between his only son and a servant... So, he threatened my grandfather; either the peasant girl or his fortune... unfortunately, my grandfather chose to be disinherited than let the love of his life go! next thing you know, him and my grandmother were in a train to Paris; from there they went to London... And here I am, the grandaughter of a love fool, of a disinherited aristocrat, living in Prague now after my family moved back there 10 years ago. Belle & Sebastian: I heard "Dog On Wheels" in the Spring of 1997, in a radio station! I rushed to my friend's recordshop and bought it. As I was travelling back from the countryside by train, listening to the Clientele on my walkman, I came back home to find the notification "you've been given a voice"; and I thought, yes, it's time to annoy you all. Fading Summers Always in August I have this feeling that the Summer Fades Away. I've read somewhere recently that the beginning of August, in gaelic tradition, definites the end of Summer and the beginning of Autumn; so they used to celebrate it with big fires in which they smoked their guns, as the beginning of Autumn meant that the haunting era was commencing. Semiotics: I love the posts of Mr Pine Fox, there's a strange kind of semiotics there, don't you think? Being intrigued by the posts of his I read since I've been subscribed here, I went to the archives and read some more. Lucy?) has already told us that this month's Select reprints Struan's Glasgow University Guardian interview, but neglected to draw to our attention the topless shot of To... oops, sorry :) , Wee Chris, accompanying the V-Twin article on the following page. I showed Greenwich photos, BG Martin sat on my lap, people talked to me about Madder Rose, I took photos of Tim that he won't let me publish, Geoff left with hordes of women & people generally had F!U!N. FOX-Y-GLOVES The foxiest band in Britain played the Under Solo Club in Camden recently, augmented by Sedentary Fox Martin on STuD bass & Pam & Eddie Vedder's love child Ira on drums. Posh venue, glamorous audience (Hi Gals!), excellent set, Pine Fox Joe's guitar being inspired by Martin's magic box to run all over the place but still ending up in the right places. Rogueishly handsome Vulpine Fox supplied the witty between songs banter. Make us a record, please guys. OLDE CHEDDAR CHEESE Pussy Cat, Pussy Cat where have you been? I've been up to London to see the Queen (well, a Princess at least) Her Royal Stickiness was in town to see that 69 New Romantic Songs bloke. I too have acquired a copy of the record, but feel its appreciation may be an uphill struggle, not least because of my own home-grown South Park chorus of derision that greets its ever being played. Sinister: simple things

howdy it's that time of year again. the time where i grow closer to the day where i dread seeing the post van coming along the road. i get my exams results on the 10th. if i don't get 4 B's, then i'm stuck in gairloch for another year, and i'll have to go back to school. now, for various reasons too horrible to describe, that is a fate worse than death. seriously. so i've got to do well. i need four B's. i did highers in art, french, modern studies (like politics and stuff) and english, and a module in maths cos i is thick wif numbers, but i'm convinced i've f*cked up badly. i did this last year for my standard grades, and i got six grade 1's and two grade 2's, which is apparently like six A's and two B's in GCSE's.... so that was pretty good, and i think if i stick to this theory, of convincing myself i've done badly, then maybe i'll have done well. oh who am i kidding? i've been offered a place to do a BA in Arts and Social Science at strathclyde uni and i REALLY need to go there this year, cos there is no way i'm going back to school, to be with a bunch of people who hate me, take the piss and generally make me miserable. so i must get 4 B's. sinisterines, you will be among the first to know my results. if i can get on the internet that is. we got another massiiiiiiiive phone bill in the other day, and i've been banned from the net during the week. oh joy. so you'll probably hear on friday. or saturday. as if any of you actually care, i can hear the giggles/sighs of annoyance already, and i haven't even sent this yet! loneliness of a middle distance runner is great. even better than legal man, but we won't get into that one again, will we?! have been reading a book called "sophie's world" lately. it's about the history of philosophy and stuff, and is very good. but what i like about it the best is how the girl gets these secret letters every day. i mean, she knows who they're from (a philosophy teacher) but it's just quite cool. i wish i got secret letters, i never get any post or anything these days. you can send me secret emails if you want, they're better than nothing i suppose... ho hum as for the subject line... it's my favourite b&s song at the moment. small but perfectly formed. but nothing beats the recorders in "the boy with the arab strap". woo, and indeed, hoo. i'm off, amy xxx "wisest is she who knows she does not know" +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org.
