I have been expecting the whole long day that some member of the Barthesian Youth Brigade would hit our roughly 1400 mailboxes with the ultimate interpretation of 'Family Tree', which would encode some reference to the kickin' ass gene shared by J-Lo and Izz Camp. Steve R-ado came back with a brilliant defence of physicsness,always welcomed by such a prosecuted minority.I wonder if individuals might be charged in this country with racist allegations because of mocking naive Robot Wars addicts and telling them how sad and appalling to our sight they are.Rescuing beauty from the deepest caves and rising it to where it should stay,that is skin deep and splendidly superficial,L-LL ruined my daily routine of observing the remains of acne at 27 1/3. B-O-Y-S, the video. Never my eyes contemplated such a condensed collection of all the possible stereotypes of saucy 60s iconography.Nuns,lollipops,and the shortest school miniskirts conceived by HH.I am sure that is what goes in the mind of every lo-fi dandy, if there is such species. Does anyone here take Marie Claire? B&S are featured in the March issue (Spain edition). Apparently they are "the true myths" that "inspire" a group of people called "Lo-Fi Dandy" which is like Brit-Pop only indier (I think). The most alarming characteristic is "adolescent sense and sensibility (at any age)". Sound familiar? "Far from wanting to create scenes, everything boils down to total devotion for pop with nice melodies". Perhaps "Lo-Fi Dandy" will become the new "Grunge". I'd hold on to those test pressings a bit longer, just in case. The other groups mentioned are Roxy Music and Pulp. There were some pigs squealing on the news just now, they sounded exactly like "Walk This Way" by Aerosmith. In the interests of list research, I have started The Journals of Slavia Praha 1950-1962. It's just a bunch of Dear Diary posts! Good ones, though. She gets K!I!S!S!E!D! against her will in a B!A!R!N! by a Peacock Johnson-like character. For a nosy parker it's an interesting book. I find it a bit distressing though, and nothing distressing has happened yet. She hasn't even met Ted Heath. I think I'd prefer to read Sniffin' Glue. So i'm going to be the first to comment on the obvious similarity between Ms Lopez and Ms Campbell am I? I bet I Cam could get more than a million dollars for her arse Does it make our struan the puff daddy of twee then? um, other stuff about bums etc went for a job interview in that london yesterday. It was pretty horrendous, they showed like no interest in me at all, just stuck to the questions, and what terrible questions they were too, "what do you see yourself doing in ten years time?" noooooooooooooooooooooooooo! "what are your strengths and weaknesses?" noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! I flipping hate questions like that, and i don't see why being good at interview skills should be a pre-requisite for any job... Saw a bit of metrosexuality last nite, by gum it was rubbish. I wonder if Welthorpe, Mrs will be suing them for nicking her tagline... Is anyone watching the West Wing? I am, i think it's grate. Boy Pallis dared to diss Final Fantasy although he did praise Spaced, which he is correct about, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, spaced, can't wait. Coldplay have always been rubbish, which ever label they were on, not as bad as starsailor mind. Went to see Frink Blick the other nite, by jimminy does he go on. The first hour was quite good, but then he DIDN'T STOP!! after two and a quarter hours, he went off and THEN CAME BACK FOR AN ENCORE. Why do bands have the temerity to think they can entertain us for that long? Even two hours of b&s would be pushing it, i just don't have the attention span i guess. *brief glasgow only section* if you are in that glasgow tonite and have nothing to do, may i suggest that you go to King Tuts and see a band called "The Bush, The Tree and Me", which i realise is a rubbish name, but they are very good, well i liked them anyway. they are acousticy and very nice young ladies and they have a cello and a clarinet. *end of glasgowcentric bit* Durry Furry is going to see the strap on friday and I'm going to see them on saturday. My advice would be to get very drunk as it always improves the quality of their gigs. That said, i've never seen them sober (and i'm not going to start on saturday). Oh and if you can split up with boyf/girlf during the support act it'll probably help. I won't be doing that, mainly because mrs carsmile will be at home. Miss Whiska whispered about Ruvi's Rambling of: "I think the problem is that pretty girls do not make great thinkers." After I read this, I looked out the window at the valley and mused... Wait, who am I kidding? I'm much too beautiful to be muddling my pretty little head with thoughts. In fact, I'm surprised I'm exerting myself to the extent of typing. However, I like the way my perfectly manicured fingernails look as they sweep over the keys, especially the delicacy of my pinkie as it attacks the enter key. Llovely. Of course, those less attractive seem to think that grace and poise such as this come without any work. Why I will have you know it takes hours of work each week from that rather large lady with softly permed hair to keep my nails like this. And underpaid masses sweat gallons just so that I might have the cucumbers that I soak in milk to lay on my eyes so that I might be able to stare at the world through the perfection which it sees when gazing upon me. - Beauty is only skin deep. - Pretty is as pretty does. My question is this: If ugly people are the ones who are so clever, then why can't they come up with better sayings to make their pocked faces feel better about themselves? Salinger. He might be smart. He refused to have his picture put on the dust jacket of Catcher In The Rye when it first came out. I wish some other authors would take this stance. Of course, he also refused to have any picture put on the cover which is why you always see it as basically a plain white cover. One of the English classes at the local high school just finished reading Catcher In The Rye. When one student came into pick up the next book (Slaughterhouse Five), they were complaining about the vulgarity of Salinger's novel. I curved my mouth into a pout. (You know to make it look as if I care.) I suppose I can understand. Why I had to stop reading "Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil" due to the vulgarity. Well, that and the fact that I was beginning to have a sneaking suspicion that the transvestite was better looking than me. Green simply isn't my best color. Enough of this chatter. It's beginning to make my teeth hurt. (Capped. $200 a tooth.) I shall now do what I do best and squeeze into a short skirt and paste on my plastic smile. Ready? *stiff clap* O!K! Rah Rah REEEEEEEEEE!!! If you haven't figure out what I'm up to now, then I have a lovely handcrafted mirror that you would surely like to look upon yourself in. It's 2/22 and Marie Elia is 23! Yes, that raven-haired beauty who is the wit of all things Sinister is turning another year older today. Of course, I would be remiss in my duties as a connoisseur of that which is lovely, virtuous (ahem), and of good report if I were not to post on this glorious day. This year I went on a mission to find out why Ree is loved so much. I soon found that at the mere mention of her name boys become besotted and addled brained (though some would say that this it's difficult to tell the difference between this and how they act normally). Armed with a box of Kleenex, a yellow raincoat, and some galoshes - I bravely faced the droolfest to discover the reasons of such devotion that go far beyond her Hello Kitty earmuffs. The most reoccurring theme was the fact that Ree "had booty." Not only does she have it but she shared it with ALL of England which was ignorant of such things. Where the British had been up to their neck in bliss, they are now down to the groove with booty-shakin. According to unidentified sources, they're still trying to live it down. However, I think for their sakes that it was only an Introductory Course since I have heard no mention of "The Seven Degrees of Booty" or "Ghetto Booty." At least, she was that kind. There was also a torrent of favorite, as Will Porter deemed them, Memo-Rees. Including - Tofutti and tofutti cuties (the vanilla ones are the best) The secret handshake and my personal favorite Ree quote from chat: Chele: I shouldn't say what song it is because I'll be dating myself. Ree: I like dating myself. I have great taste in music, I'm cute, and there's no question about whether I'll invite myself up for "coffee." Some of the answers I got I don't think can be covered by any explanation. Thus, I shall simply list them here with the disclaimer that was given to me: ***BEWARE because those who said some of these things are British, French, and feline. Therefore, they aren't good at staying clear of irony and rudeness.*** ANSWERS TO THE QUESTION: "WHY DO YOU LIKE REE?"* 1. Ree is supah gorgeous and sweet and on TOP of the seat last night. A 130 kind of girl and reely cute and brave. 2. She left shampoo at our house so we didn't have to buy any. 3. Her name sounds like pee 4. She wanks with intelligence and grace 5. She spends with style 6. She is un parapluie: curves, stripes, and sooo waterproof 7. She knows how to write a tearstained letter to Sir William, a more tragic hand-biting has never been seen. (Oh Sir William, when will you return? My heart is ravished...) 8. She's prepared to share her husband 9. She almost tempts us to forget our awkward Englishness and say actual nice things about her because we love her and her comb-over 10. How she says "This station is *bermondsey*" 11. The way she leaves #sinister just a bit before she actually logs out of IRC so that those of us in the know can sneak in one last hug and good-bye 12. Her poetry is brilliant 13. She has this cute little frown when she is concentrating on something 14. She's going to write one of these for all our birthdays. Oh, we can't wait! Sinister: Too much music won't kill you

Okay, Yesterday I wrote to this wonderful list for the first time in a long while... and, okay, I was bad-tempered, and I know some people don't like bad-tempered people. Well, anyway, sometimes you have one of these days that you just want to forget as quickly as you can, when you wish every single person that comes near to you to go to hell, when the only thing you want to do is sit down, relax and listen to some damn good music, which actually is what I did last night, listening to music I mean, not wishing people to go to hell. Like I said, yesterday I read some more of Kafka's "Das Prozess", a difficult book but certainly worthwhile reading it, because it is so well written, while listening to Sonic Youth's "Goo LP". Don't you just love Sonic Youth? I mean, these crazy old wankers are 45 years old, Kim and Thurston are married, they should be living a life like my parents life! But, noooooooooooooonononononono...no they still make crazy music for slightly crazy people with slightly twisted minds. Anyway, imho Sonic Youth's "Goo LP" is their best ever. It's their most "commercial" album, what the heck,... it's their breakthrough album. But, it's absolutely grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat and sooooo yummy: Kim's sexy voice in "Goo", the fucked up noise at the end of "Mildred Pierce", the best instrumental ever written and a real mind-blower at parties, the brilliant pop-melodies in "Dirty Boots", ... and a million of other reasons I cannot think of right now but that make me say this is one of the best albums of all time (imho, of course). Anyway, new B&S stuff coming up... This makes me so excited ... because I always wanted to hear what a B&S soundtrack would sound like, what kind of movie they would make a soundtrack for,... And... a tour coming up.... which makes me even more excited .... because I've actually never seen them live. They came to Belgium once, I bought my tickets... and then I got illl, so I couldn't go. So, please, if any of you members of B&S sometimes write to this list, take note of my cravings... and play a gig, if even one song, in Belgium. CCCCCCCCCCCCCOOOOOOOOOOLDPLAY What's all the fuzz about this band. I like them, there, I said it......... They have a bunch of good tunes, they don't have a shitty attitude like the Gallagher brothers, they are absolutely brill' live... And yeah, of course they have this dull-indie-image,, and of course they will never be the better of Radiohead, or B&S or... but I like them. And I think all the people who don't like them just can't stand it that a band that once had a lot of indie-credibility started selling millions and trillions and gazillions of records. Admit it, you wankers... you're just jealous. I bet you all play in a band and want to be famous too but you can't be because you're singing or guitar playing is worse than my neighbour's cat's. Anyway, cut the crap, I like Coldplay, especially "Don't Panic" NEW RECORDS Stephen Malkmus, Tortoise, Jim White, John Frusciante, G-Stone book (Kruder and Dorfmeister anthology), Sybarite, Bonnie Prince Billy, Motorpsycho, Low, Japancakes, Tarentel, Halifax Pier, Sophia, Radiohead, Boards of Canada, Tahiti 80, Ladytron, all Bedhead albums rereleased, Leonard Cohen's live album, Arab Strap, Reissue of Marvin Gayes "What's going on", My Morning Jacket, etc... all these albums are equally worth buying and are already released or will be released very very very very soon. Go out and buy them, or if you don't have any money, use your credit card, or your sisters credit card,... or just steal them CONCERTS. I'm so excited. "Why??" you ask. well, I'm going to see three of my all-time favorite bands in concert over the next few weeks. First up is Low, like I sead yesterday, imho the best pop-band of all time, then Tortoise, together with L'altra and 'the Sea and the Cake', this will be a very good post-rocky, arty farty night with lots of beautiful indie, hippie kind of girls and lots of pseudo-intellectual guys (interesting), and third is Will Oldham aka Bonnie Prince Billie aka Palace (Songs or Music, or whatever), the best and saddest and happiest and sickest and most talented troubadour of the moment. I'll be trying to tape these concerts on MiniDisc, not very good quality though... WORLDLY INJUSTICE Sometimes the world makes me so sick and at the same time i think that I should do something about it, make a difference, start a rebellion, whatever.... I watched the news yesterday: people losing their jobs, earthquakes in India and El salvador without the western world giving adequate support and help, Palestinians dying in Israël due to Sharon being stubborn and just an utter fool, hunger and civil war in Guinée,etc.... I mean, there's so much injustice and all we do here in our perfect little rich western world is sit back and relax and listen to music and do pointless jobs that just gain more money for our rotten capitalist system. But, hell, I think I don't have the courage to get up and do something about it, anything.... go to Africa for Doctors without Frontiers, the Red Cross, Oxfam, Amnesty,... But, when I grow iup there will be a day that I will get up and do it my way!!!! Enough diversions... back to the music... . I am asking anyone on this list again. Please send me a "Felt" tape, any "Felt" tape... I heard so many good things about them, downloaded some of their songs from Napster,and of course absolutely adored them. I could download more, but in one way or another trading tapes seems a cooler and a less anti-social thing to do. Anyone who can send me a "Felt" tape will get a reward, not just any reward... but some very good mix-tapes. Okay, I have to go now. Going home, eating, music, down to the pub, watching Anderlecht-Leeds, drinking, and then sleeping... (not very exciting, but anyway) Take Care K-man who doesn't care what people think of him as long as he can do what he wants, smoke what he wants, listen to the music he likes and love who he wants. Sinister: The beginning of the end

This particular beginning (one of many) was written in my creative writing class at uni as part of an assignment. Needs re-drafting and legthening and so forth. It's called (oddly enough) Judy and the Dream of Horses. Autographs will be sent to any person or persons who send me a stamped addressed evelope in the mail. "Write a song about your dream of horses Call it Judy and the Dream of Horses", That line must have been playing just as she fell asleep, or when the timer on her stereo kicked in and switched it off, either way it wouldn't stop looping. She didn't really mind, she liked that line, and not just because of the vanity that came with hearing your own name. There was something in that line about hope and about value being found in the wrong places. I suppose you wouldn't understand unless you'd heard it all, or at least the relevant bits. The part that nearly explained it went something like; "Judy got a book at school Went under the covers with a torch Fell asleep till it was morning Dreamt about a girl who stole a horse Judy never felt so good except when she was sleeping" But you'd really need to hear it all the way through. Judy decided she'd take the advice, although it couldn't be a song, they'd already written the song so that would be silly. Judy was going to write a story, after all, you didn't get a motivation like this every day and it might be the push she needed to finish something she'd started. You couldn't live on scrapbook ideas and poems these days, no matter how good you were. Judy sat down at the desk behind her bed. She began slowly, but began to pick up speed the more she wrote and the more she liked it; "'Judy and the Dream of Horses' I hadn't slept properly in a month. "...and of course everyone felt appropriately shocked and saddened by the women's affliction..." Hello, kiddies !! There was an article today on the music section of the catalan newspaper AVUI that discussed how is it possible to have just a few different things between each race (according to the human map of gens) when there are so many different musical tastes. On the article they mention something like "there must be some primary changes between the likes of Isobel Campbell (princess and B&S voice) and Jennifer Lopez)", and the picture they use to illustrate this wants to make it clear. Honey just posted it to the sinister website, and you can check it, PLEASE DO IT !!! I remind that "no es" means "she isnŽt". The rest is up to you.
