I went back to some places where I used to go as a child. If you've ever heard of 'jigsaws yellowing in a Post Office window' - well, the Post Office has become a hardware store. The only jigsaws there now are jig saws. I don't know whether this is good news or bad. If I hadn't mucked up my driving c&w booze etc project I would send her a copy of it. I calculate that on her drive she could listen to it 14 times. But unfortunately it has vanished like a goat into the machine. I mean, ghost. We have a Finnish member, I see. What I want to know is, does she support Real Moomins or Continuity Moomins? David Moore has been 'On Fire' recently. so it seems quite strange that not one week ago i was getting bored with the millions of sinister posts all about the same gig. and now i am contributing to the recent outbreak of new people posts. the "hello my name is... and i live.... and i've liked belle and sebastian since...." i have been pondering what sort of thing one says the first time they write mass mail to a bunch of strangers. i do not think it matters where i am from.... or maybe i just think its too dull to reveal. i would rather come across very glamourous and mysterious and all that. ......[please note that my spelling is increadibly sad and underdeveloped. kindly disregard any mistakes, and refrain from correcting them in your replies (forgive my assumption that anyone will bother to reply)]....... i have never seen belle and sebastian live. i have never been surrounded by more than one belle and sebastian fan at a time. when richard and i went to victoria the girl who worked at the youth hostel saw my shirt [formerly known as richard's shirt] and said, "ooh... belle and sebastian. they are really good" or something along those lines, so i suppose at that moment i was surrounded by two belle and sebastian fans. a record to say the least. red bull and vodka (cue ken's response) richard john gillanders is a good kisser (cue richard's repsonse) stevie trousers is far to young for me [me being aged 92] but if i were only a bit younger i might have to nap with him. hello. i have never written to this mail list, i am a little bit terrified. i am quite uncertain as to what i am supposed to write so i think i should copy another person's first post. Good Day to all of you. I've just decided to step out of lurkerdom for the first time since I joined, and I'm asking you to be gentle with me. I'm 18, and I live in Paris, France. the pinefox mentioned strawberry wine which brings a good memory (thanks). my suitemate freshman year alternated between only two songs for weeks upon weeks. the two songs being: the country song strawberry wine and that 60s catchy tune that goes the only boy that could ever reach (or teach?) me was the son of a preacher man. and james thorniley had a great subject line from a weezer song, also brought back memories (thanks). david moore gave me some beautiful new b&s songs. of course they were on the internet, so I guess anyone could download them (how thoughtful) but for fun, I can imagine they were just for me. to best listen to them, I invested in a mp3 player (ouch). but it made the 13 hour drive to atlanta like my own private b&s gig. although no cool medals were awarded when I arrived (whoever got these is so lucky). getting sidetracked.after driving through a torrential downpour on I-75 through the Smoky Mtns (how I have missed mtns) surrounded by semis, I was a bit worn out. so I stopped in the bible-belt-hot-spot of cleveland, tennessee at a gas station and bought..a RED BULL. where the attendant mentioned that the youngins were mixing it with vodka, and I said, oh really? what a shocking concept! since the purchase (of the mp3 player not the red bull, silly), I have gone wild (truly) trying out new music that I found on this internet-thing.its so useful. I was making button badges ch ch ch how great is that? if youre having a dull day, add some sound effects. such as: I was tying my shoesch..ch..ch.and so on.. jenowl likes doc martins too; theyre easy to like. I got my first pair before I moved to illinois and my mom said people wear boots and wool up there (gee, Im glad she told me, or I would have frozen my arse off). I just got a pair of sandals as an early birthday present. though what I really liked were these pink snakeskin boots quite cool. well the flood of sinister boys and girls (so many I cant name you all) graduating and hunting for that ellusive species, the job, has caused me to join yall. I spiffily updated my resume and have mailed it out. So theres a chance I might be moving back South soon which is fine b/c the boy that makes me sigh is obviously dense, scared, or uninterested. I hope it is one of the first two, but Im frustrated (see subj line) so I dont care if I leave this dang town. on a positive note, I hope we all find jobs where we can listen to b&s freely, like Kate:). Ive only had two possessions stolen from me in my life. 1. I rode my bike to the computer lab one night at college. Hours later when I was leaving, I came out to find that some mean person had ripped the back light off my bike. Literally, they took just the light and left a forlorn looking light-attacher/connector to my bike. And it was at this point I realized the world isnt always the nicest place (though now I consider myself fortunate to have lasted as long as I did), so I rode back in the dark to my apartment and felt violated. 2. The next was my first pair of doc martin boots (mentioned earlier), a beautiful burgandy leather, taken from the lockerroom at the place I swam. of course, neither of these are as horrible as the cruel person that stole Kirsten-across-the-lakes (not pond) sketchbook. well, I have given a home to an abandoned kitty. somehow she wound up getting named foxy roxy which is a bit b&s related, I suppose. so now I have two cats, foxy roxy and dove who hisses at foxy roxy when she gallops sideways too fast. I refuse to take anymore cats into my one bedroom apartment, otherwise Ill just be one step closer to my nightmare of becoming an old maid with a dozen cats. bye, amy ps I really like how dIrect is pronounced in Nothing In the Silence, much lovelier than the american way shawn & emily I will be in touch soon. You'll have to go in the shop,' the less-than-cheery driver indicated by grunting 'Nah' and poking a simian fist in the direction of the local newsagent. 'I've *been* in the shop,' I said, patiently, but with a hint of dark menace in my voice, 'and they haven't *got* change.' The evolutionary throwback at the wheel waved a podgy appendage at a neighbouring establishment, as if to suggest I spend the rest of my days travelling from shop to shop in the vague hope of splitting this monstrous denomination. I cracked. 'Look,' I said firmly, 'I'm just going to get on.' and with that I marched the length of the bus and plonked a pair of righteous buttocks into a window seat. 'Eeerh! Naaah!' roared the Neanderthal indignantly. I sat my ground. The tension mounted. A pair of grannies, narked, no doubt, by the driver's pig-headedness, disembarked to continue their journey on foot. Juddering, the engine spluttered and died. I stormed up to the aisle. 'It's *legal* fucking *TENDER*,' I thundered, waving the tenner angrily in that fuckwit's mouch. 'Now DRIVE!' Unmoved, he folded his arms and prepared to sit it out. But it was not to be. A charming lady member of the proletariat, resplendent in cheap H Samuel merchandise - her ear was clanging like cutlery in a sack - came to my aid. Was it right, I asked myself, to allow so obviously impoverished a specimen pay my seventy pence toll? Of course it fucking was. This is life and I'm playing hardball. On a belle and sebbie related note, I think I speak for us all when I point out that Isabelle has a whiney, annoying, cloyingly twee voice and an arse the size of a small Eastern European nation. Hello again fair Sinisterines... Ick, it's all horrific and grey outside again today. Just for a change. And the radio keeps playing all the same tunes over and over and over again. I have a love/hate relationship with summers like this, when there is nothing to do all day apart from smoke, read books and drink coffee as well as catch up with all the emails you meant to send to people two months before but never got around to it for a myriad of reasons. I am currently attempting to amuse myself by making a "Relationships are pointless" mix tape involving such classics as "You made me forget my dreams" by the adorable Belle and Sebastian as well as a nice proportion of Arab Strap and Mogwai. They're fantastic when you're feeling ever so bitter about life and love and the suchlike. I can't be doing with summer songs. They bear no relation to the way I'm feeling at the moment. Maybe when I go on holiday to a far away nice place I'll feel much better, I'm not sure yet. However, like the wonderful Mr Ken Chu (does anyone else think that his name sounds like a character out of Street Fighter who performs scary White Light/White Heat special moves? Please don't be offended Sir, you sound like a sweety and I immensely enjoy your posts. It's just an observation I made.) I went to see Radiohead last Saturday. They were truly fan-dabi-dosy, even if I did get soaked and nearly lost one of my shoes from being a short-arse and falling over when everybody started moshing to "My Iron Lung." I very much enjoyed Sigur Ros too. The lead singer is surely the most adorable thing I've seen from afar in a long time. They played one of my favourite songs (Sven-N-Englar) as well and it stripped me to the bone and sent me to the stars. However, I did unfortunetely feel a need to batter the traffic planners of Oxford City Council when I left for their appalling Park and Ride system. We managed to get to the car after three wrong buses and five abusive taxi drivers! ! later, and ended up playing Ban zai on the way home. Has anyone else seen that Johnny Vegas advert where he and a toy monkey eat crisps? Me and my best friend found it bizarre, but maybe that's just us. And here comes the flagrant list abuse time. I know that many of you lovely peeps are going to Benicassim in Spain, and me and my friends intend to as well, apart from the small fact we are going through absolute hell trying to purchase tickets as we all speak English and not very much of any other language apart from Danish. Last time we tried, we ended up talking to a French woman who didn't understand what we were trying to do or where we trying to go. Sooooo....if anyone here is from England and has managed to buy tickets, could you possibly tell me how you achieved this momentous feat? I would be most appreciative and maybe even buy you a pint if I ever manage to get there. *Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry List Mummy* By the way, the new Bjork single is cataclysmic loveliness :-) At least Radio One is good for something. I was too nervous to think of a better heading Good Day to all of you. Ive just decided to step out of lurkerdom for the first time since I joined, and Im asking you to be gentle with me. Will you try at least? Shall I introduce myself then? Im 21, and I live in Tampere, Finland. I joined Sinister last October, although I was introduced to the list in the summer of 98 and fell in love immediately. But Im just shy and I think I enjoy reading these posts more than writing them myself. Weve had two thunderstorms today and its still only two oclock. Im blissed because on Wednesday I saw my biggest ever Finnish pop hero in the flesh. I stood no more than two metres away from him for an hour and Im still light-headed. Hes like a wee pixieIt may not mean much to any of you but Id say this pretty much compensates for not having been able to catch B&S. Then againIm loving the gig reviews, and the photosyou lucky things. I dont think I have much to write about just now, and Ive probably bored you to death anyway, but I just wanted to dip my toe in the Sinister water for a bit. Sinister, It has been months since my last confession/post. I fell out of the loop while school was being all school like and stuff. Papers and reading assignments. Quite annoying. Still, I skimmed through most of the messages I got from you all. Most of my online time was spent on other tasks, like trying to endere myself to a girl who was away. I don't think it worked, but thats life I guess. Reading about all the great gigs has made me so jelous. I just have to run to the stereo and put on the first B&S record I can find to comfort me. The only show I've seen in ages was Radiohead a few weeks ago. It was soooo great. They played the Gorge, this huge outdoor ampitheatre. It was soo lovely. It was a three hour drive, though that went quickly, as it was with the aforementioned girl. Radiohead is just brilliant live. They were even playfull, something I didn't expect. All my favorites were played. I'm sure it paled in comparisson to seeing belle & sebastian though. Oh well, I'll just have to wait for them to hit the states. Something I'm sure they will do when I go on vacation in September, which is already paid for. That is really all I have to say at this juncture, nothing exciting is happening in my life. All I do is work. 46 hours per week. That should be illegal. Oh, except I moved since my last post. I life on capital hill now in Seattle. If you're from around here, you'll know that it is a pretty cool place to live. Not that it matters, all I do is work. I guess I'll soon be known as the boy who's always working. Hello to all my dear friends, and those I hope to make. I find myself wanting more and more to have a friend who's on the list. Someone I can have official picnics with and brag to all of you about the shows I see, etc. (until last week I had been spelling etc. like ect. God did I feel stupid!) I guess what I am saying is that I am lonely and fiending for Belle and Sebastian. IN every way. Someone from list tried to talk to me today but I was playing The Sims so I missed my chance. I'm sorry! I didn't mean to. My parents have called on my services to go to a family reunion. I am very excited to meet long lost cousins and such. Maybe I'll meet someone who I will want to write long and detailed letters about my endeavors. To all who care, last week I wrote a mail on the way to a job interview and I just thought I'd update. I got the job and during training this guy who came into the store to get running shoes was talking to me about music and I had a heart attack when he told me to check out Belle and Sebastian. I was so thrilled to realize that they were reaching someone other than me in my small town. This makes three people that I know that I didn't introduce to them! Also, my manager loves them and plays tigermilk every day. In short, I am loving my new job! Again I would like to thank everyone for their suggestions on how to broaden my music selection, in a week its expanded from 22 to 27 CDs.
