... and it just about has. i hoped to get my leicester picnic and birmingham gig photos developed and put on the lovely sinister website by today but i just discovered that its a 36 print film, not 24 as i thought, so i need to take a few more photos of random household items before i can pop down to my local photography shop and say 'are you doing hour developing today?'... i always get the hour one if i'm excited about the photos, even though it 3 or 4 quid more expensive and i can't really afford it. tomorrow i'm off on holiday for two weeks. every year for the last 2 or 3 years my parents have said 'this might be the last family holiday we every go on' and it never has been... but maybe this is the last one. who knows. we're going to cyprus and i'm kinda dreading it because apparently the average daytime temperature is 36 degrees and thats far too hot and i'm scared it'll just be one of those lying by the pool type holidays and i don't much like those. besides i like being pale... i think i might go to wills picnic purely because i'll be able to show off my skin which will, undoubtedly by that time, either be a bizarre shade of red or peeling badly, and get lots of sympathy from pale types.. eeek i'm so scared of the sun. i've put my b&s badges on my bag hoping that i'll spot someone with matching ones around leicester... but so far there have been none.... i reckon they need to be a lot bigger... maybe metre diameter ones for the next tour people? maybe there will be some b&s type people in cyrpus... well i can hope... #sinister is lovely i've decied now, and not at all scary. roight i'm off to pack. eeek i don't have any summer clothes at all. i prefer snow i think. especially when it contains foxes. hehe. see you all (ok i won't see anyone, but it makes it sound like you're all my bestest friends...) in two weeks john. +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. I've noticed that a lot of world leaders have names to do with ladies - Sharon, Fox, Bush, Putin. The list is endless. How eccentric do you have to be to get called eccentric by Sonic Boom? That was a very nice piece by Mister Boom, quite moving, especially the bit about crying into her washing-up. I'd never heard of Delia Derbyshire before today, and although I still think someone made her up, from now on whenever someone mentions the word "Delia" I shall shout "DERBYSHIRE!" at the top of my voice. She literally made me hide behind the settee when I was little. Mind you, I liked it back there. Sometimes my mum couldn't find me. Was that B&S enough? Could someone, preferably called Keith, please tell me which Thin Lizzy records Phil Lynott used his perspex bass on? And whether the sound of the bass is affected by it being made of perspex or not. Does it make the whole band sound like the Buggles? Some time ago Mister Richard compared B&S to Sly and the Family Stone. So why are they doing Arrested Development covers? I can't remember what horrible sarcastic comment I made at the time, but I bet it was perfectly valid. I've got that White Teeth book by Zadie Smith but I can't Report Back on it yet. I'm also reading the Political Writings of Octavio Paz in the original Mexican. I just mention that to make myself look clever. I'm on page 64. What a crap tour! Thank goodness it's over. Sinister: London Picnic

Hello cheese lovers and the others, P!I!C!N!IC! Yes Ladies and Gentlemen, you didn't even have time to get your pictures from last picnic that another one is ready. But then, it is summer time, the only time in the year we can have picnic without getting wet. Or getting reasonably wet, let's say. Anyway, I am also being selfish because I missed the last one, but then I am not the only one and Ally Cookie agrees with me and says that we should have another picnic. I can even guarantee his exclusive attendance so that is one more reason for you to come. So there. Next picnic will be Saturday 28th of July. I guess it will have to be Primrose Hill, so nobody will get jealous. (BG Mark, someone suggested me to say Greenwich just to make you cry but I am too nice to do that...However you should choose your friends more carefully, maybe ;) Details like time, meeting point and stuff to be given later on, in the meantime you can email me to beg for another day more suitable for your personal needs. (The answer is NO.) Also if anyone feels like organising some kind of dancing after the picnic, no need to say you are welcome. I could go on for ages about my holidays but that will be next week when I am back, in the meantime I will just go and enjoy it. Sinister: graduation, haircuts, cards, chipping teeth and like dylan in the cat litter

howdy cowboys and cowgirls, well.. its nearly here.. the graduation lark. I'm graduating on Thursday, so its going to be long flowing robes, and mortar boards and diplomas and photographs and videos, and all sorts of stuff like that. And a brief encore to say goodbye to all my pals again. Went out and bought some nice wee cards yesterday to give out to people I know at uni, and wrote them all out with my address and e mail addy and a little congratualtions greeting. And got my teachers and lecturers who have helped me out over the past four years some nice cards as well and posted them. Got a haircut and went to dentist. The dentist noticed a defect in my teeth, and she sat scraping away, and knocked a chip out of the enamel on my tooth that hurt when she did it. So now I have a tiny wee nick in my tooth, about the size of the bottom of a matchstick. I've got to go back later on in the summer and have them sorted out. I met a kitten last week. you'll appreciate its name: Dylan. The owners though, I doubt they named it becuase of the B+S song. But I thought you still might appreciate the name and stuff. Still job hunting. I keep finding jobs suitable for other people, but nothing for me yet. My time will come though I'm sure. I need to get a job to pay off my last phone bill which was ooooh.. sky high. Anyway, I'll go now, and ride off into the sunset in my mules. Sinister: sinister encounters

Hello, it's me! Yes me! You know, the one with the - that's right - and the "monkey beans". Yes. That's me! I've been condemned to the sulphurous depths of List Purgatory for a few weeks, after forgetting to resubscribe when I left University, and am still rather sore. It's terrible down there in the fiery depths, I can tell you! Honey danced on all my soft spots wearing her stiletto heels and made me call her "mummy". Oh! The indignity! So I'm here in Kidderminster, working in the petrol station again. It's not totally boring here, though. We found a shrew in the petrol station last week. Today I had to fill up for a lady who was allergic to petrol. On Wednesday the lady on the fish counter married her late husband's brother and he died the same evening. Honest. That's pretty dramatic, but it is mostly boring here. Anyway, those girls on the fish counter are all the same. I rather terrified a customer last week because she was wearing a Belle and Sebastian bus t-shirt - a brown one - and the shock of seeing one of these in Kidderminster almost made my feet fall off. People round here only saw toothbrushes for the first time last year, and they still only use them to polish their mangles. Well, I confronted the girl. "Hey! Belle and Sebastian! I saw them in London last Friday!" "Oh, I see" "Oh yes! They were dead ace!" "Have they got a new single out then?" "Er, yes." "I don't really listen to them anymore. I just wear this because I like the bus." "Oh" "Can I have a receipt, please?" Ah, the concert last Friday. Well I suppose it's the Friday before last now. It was fun. I really enjoyed all the songs, especially Lazy Line Painter Jane and I Love My Car. Even though the band were tiny from where I stood, and even though no one else was standing where I stood, let alone *dancing*. Thank you Sarah, Alix and Vibri, by the way, for having me stay in your house and sleep in the incredibly comfortable bed. And hello to everyone I met, whether you were from Finland or from just down the road. The recorded voices on the tube are okay, I feel almost certain they do want me to mind the gap, but the man at Birmingham New Street who tells me he is very sorry that my train has been cancelled is a liar. He's not sorry at all. I was walking through Nottingham one time and heard a van parked in front of McDonalds. It was a Securicor van and its electronic voice was saying, ever so calmly, "Help! Help! This vehicle is being attacked. Please call the police!" Nobody believed it, so they carried on walking. The driver had been locked inside automatically and looked embarrassed. I didn't call the police either. I went home and ate some mashed potato. Sinister: The joys of supermarkets on a Monday afternoon

Hello, sinister. I'm not a fan of summer. It's too hot and sweaty. I prefer autumn, when I can snuggle up inside under my quilt, against the rain and the wet leaves. Can't we just get this season over with?# Of course, *soon* this city will be full of tourists. Fuller, I mean. It's *always* full of tourists, but in summer you always get all the arty, English ones. At the moment, it's just full of French school parties. They wear denim and crowd me off pavements. I keep looking round the city to see if I can see anyone else who looks like a Sinister person, though. Normally I don't manage, even though I *know* that several other listees live and work here. I did see a B&S fan in the supermarket today, though. The weather has been hot and foggy, which is just horrible. At least if it's summer, can't we have lots of nice fresh thunderstorms? Yes, I know. No content. I was thinking: we've just had that lovely UK tour! And it's all over. Well, for me it was over ages ago after the final Glasgow gig---well, it *seems* like ages---so it must be time to get back to long, rambling, content-free posts again, mustn't it? Incidentally, the Sinister website now has pictures of *everyone's* favourite listee, the furry and honey-coloured Belle. She really should have her own email address, so we can all send her our crush votes. We did have a thunderstorm the other week, I admit. I was woken, terrified, in the middle of the night by it. The cat was unmoved. He sleeps on my feet. I was getting my groceries, just coming through the fruit and veg section, when I saw a woman walking the other day. Uhuh. Something's niggling at me. What is it? She's got a badge on! A B&S website/underground badge, as sold at all the best UK tour venues. As did I, in fact. I tried to walk back and forth in front of her a few times, to see if there would be any flicker of a notice, if she spotted my matching one. I don't think so. She pushed her basket towards the checkout with her toe. Why can't we have hot, dry, blue-skys summer days? That's the sort I hope we have for our forthcoming PICNIC which everyone is invited to. If you can't make it to south-east Scotland for July 28th, you'll just feel left out. You know you will. Yes, everyone on the list is invited, even if you're just a lurker. Even if you were in the Sainsburys at Meadowbank this afternoon. See, I had to put another picnic plug in there. Sorry, everyone. I would pray for nice weather, but god thinks i'm an abomination or something. god, you lot can talk! i've only been away a week and over 200 mails in my inbox actually i was in the same house as my computer but had no access to it as the video card was being utilized in another computer downstairs which we were using to record my band's demo! it's so cool using two monitors on a computer, you put them next to each other and the mouse dissapears from one screen and appears on the next when you move it around! fantastic! there was a practical reason, one monitor for the recording screen and the other for the mixing desk, so much easier than swapping between them. it's so handy having two people doing degrees in music technology in the band. anyway, 3 songs recorded and we're now printing up the CDs and sleeves. and i should be cutting out cardboard now but i'm not. HA my copy of Jonathan David is in the post! yippee, hmv.com was the only place the world, real or virtual, that stock it on 12", and they had to order it from their 'suppliers. 'it's a limited edition though and i'm getting one!!! kewl i think it was owen who mentioned a newcastle picnic. i think this would be a fantastic idea, i didn't know there were any other geordie sinisterines around here. of course all the ex-pat geordies (mike, the narrow wizard and sleepy kev, if there aren't more) will have to come home, doesn't the tweebunny live in durham now?, haven't heard from him for a while. everyone can come! i've never met another one of yous yet as i couldn't get to scarboria for the gig...
