Hello kids, Well, I suppose absence makes the heart grow fonder (most of the time), I haven't posted for merely a couple of weeks and already people are inquiring as to my marital status. Maybe I now should be sponsored by "How Does It Feel To Be Loved", for giving their website extra hits, much like a porn site with pop-up ads. Maybe B&S can do with my services too... so that Googling "Ken Chu" "Dick" "Wank" can link to the website for the new album DICKWANK. Speaking of DICKWANK, I obviously had no chance of listening to the new album but for some reason I think the best tracks on DICKWANK are going to be... If She Wants me Wrapped up in Books Lord Anthony If you find yourself caught in love I'm a cuckoo Piazza, New York Catcher And for the same unknown reason I think DICKWANK is going to be the best album the band have ever produced. And that many people are going say that they don't like the band anymore, if that happens I think they just won't have listened to the album properly and are better off if they had stayed to play with themselves. Alex Goffey mentioned the luck of Glaswegians, yet forgot to mention the REAL REASON that they're all lucky and that's because they had to chance to see RED BULL DOZERS LIVE. So good that Aislers Set and Lucksmiths decided to want some of the fun. That should be good too, though. Is Archel still my friend? Or is she going to call me a cunt for calling her friend Robin Stout a fanny two weeks ago? Wanna fight? Personally I think both of you have shit for faces, and not even the nice solid kind, but the kind that came from previous night's hot curries. I wrote a whole thesis on feces once. Well hey there Sinister.. Long time, no words from this brown corner of the galaxy, but then I'm sure you didn't need my inconsequential mutterings to brighten up your autumnal/springtime days. Oh no no, what with all the other lovely kids on here AND a spunky new album to look forward to, what more could one possibly want? I'm not sure if anybody has mentioned this already, but 'Step Into My Office, Baby' is free for downloading off Insound (www.insound.com) You know, I really did try not to download anything before the spunky new album comes out, but when it's free and there to download, I couldn't resist. Even now that Soulseek is working again, I'm still not going to download anything else. Why? I just think it'll spoil the surprise - listening to an album for the first time is like opening presents. If you know what's already inside it, where's the fun in that? I think it'll be well worth the wait. I love 'Step Into...", though - today I had it playing and I couldn't help dancing around to it, singing along after the third listen, and vowing to be at the record store super early to buy my copy when it comes out. Yay! As for all you lucky lucky Glaswegians, I am more than insanely jealous that you'll have the opportunity to see the super duper Aislers Set AND the even more stupendous Lucksmiths IN THE SAME SHOW! If envy could be conveyed via email, this'd probably be flaming more than the bombe alaska i saw on a cooking show before Father's Day. So go see them and, more than making yourselves happy, make me wish I was on the other side of the world once again. Uhmm well anyway, hope y'all well in Sinister land. Don¹t you just hate music journalists? Getting to hear records weeks, if not months before the poor blighted punter¹ What a life. The downside of course is that you tend to miss out that whole excitement about the release date thing; that marvellous sense of expectation as you queue in line for the record store to open, that heart in the mouth moment as you fork over your cash and rush home to whack it on the record player. Sorry, showing my age there should have read before whacking it in your PowerBook and ripping it onto your iPod¹. Of course I never considered myself a music journalist, which is just as well because nor has anyone else, but still it¹s nice to pretend. Especially since it¹s meant reigniting my love affair with that band of ragamuffins some call Belle And Sebastian. See, the way things have been recently I wouldn¹t have bothered to even cast more than a casual eye over the fact that they have a new album lined up. I mean, I¹d been unimpressed by anything they¹d done since (bits of) Arab Strap¹. I thought, ach, I don¹t need Belle And Sebastian in my life¹, and you know the only reason that big poster for those mythic Manchester Town Hall concerts still hangs on my classroom wall is because it¹s too high up for me to easily reach. So when a copy of Waitress¹ fell in my lap, I had the review all ready to go. It talked of Moments and Memories and dismissed their current effort with a toss of the hand, a flick of the wrist and a we¹re all different people now¹. I thought I¹d let them off lightly, thought I had played the drifted-apart former lovers part pretty well. Then I listened to the album. And then I listened again. It¹s five days later and I¹m still listening. Hardly anything else has managed to get on the stereo in the meantime. To say I¹m surprised isn¹t even in it. So I¹m not going to repeat the things I ended up writing in the second draft of that review here, except to say that, ah, well, look: I WAS right and we¹re none of us the same as we were, and that¹s just fine. Belle And Sebastian no longer sound to me like the same slightly scrawny gang of scruffy scallywags I fell in love with all those years ago (look in the archives if you¹re a youngster, or in the deepest recesses of your memories if you¹re a Sinister Original¹ for which read old git¹). They sound more self-assured, and they sound like they¹re having a whale of a time. Which is something we should not underestimate the value of in Pop. Waitress¹ sounds like a magical Pop confection, crammed full of wonderful songs that are stuffed with wonderful moments that skip and soar, that crawl along your spine laying butterfly kisses as they go. Lines leap out and ambush you with a knowing grin; there¹s lyrical and musical nods of reference and reverence that glow with wit and arch wisdom but that never for a moment sound laboured and over-wrought with cleverness¹. Best of all today are the sounds of ping pong balls, the lovely Thin Lizzy references, the line about walk away renee¹ and the fact that Stay Loose¹ sounds like an outtake from Back in Denim¹ (some mighty, mighty recommendation in case you were wondering). Oh, and the fact that Wrapped Up In Books¹ sounds for all the world like Cliff Richard¹s In The Country¹ (as covered by The Farmers Boys). So, you know, sorry to annoy all of you real fans who do the queuing outside the record store, but I just had to share this with you. I know you¹re all going to love this record when you hear it. It¹s the kind of record obsessions build themselves around. The album makes so much sense now I can understand the lyrics properly. For instance, I thought I'm a Cuckoo was all about Thin Lizzy, but in fact it turns out it's not at all. Sinister: Looking forward to the new album

I am very excited about the new album and hope the songs are great as before. Let me introduce a little bit about myself since I did not last time. I grew up in Japan and now live in Los Angeles, CA. I got to know B & S because a friend of mine introduced their music to me, and I really got hooked on the beautiful songs they create. I wish I could create music like that myself, maybe I can start from learning how to play harmonica. I am also an artist like Emily (you had some cool stuff on you site.), but I am more into 3D CG, then started to emphasize more on traditional art skills lately. (here are some of my works here). I am going back to Japan in the end of November, but will still be listening to B & S music hoping that they will come to Japan again. That is a quick introduction of myself and I would love to hear more about other people. Blimey, it's been a while. Mark has inspired me to write for two reasons. apparently Isobel Campbell has recorded a new album, AND it's coming out on October 7th. isn't that also when DCW is coming out? I am very excited by this clash of the titans. It will be like the Blur v. Oasis of our times. I'm not actually *that* fond of the Aislers (although they are sufficiently good that I would go and see them if they played in sunny Dublin), but I do fancy the idea of a weekend in Scotland.
