My first ink polaroid please be kind....
It was the monday of the oscars, early when we were all arriving at school.
We were all in our usual gathering place ( the one between deirdre and john's
lockers). Theres me and lisa buzzing excitedly about elliott smith being on
the oscars tonite, but i was troubled because i wasnt sure if troupe would
carry me long into the nite and i would have to miss elliott. it all turned
out ok however, i was home in bed waiting patiently ( then later not so
patiently) by nine o'clock. i almost fell asleep but i splashed water on my
face and said " brian its elliott!!" so i saw him in his white suit and with
his guitar and fell asleep with a smile on my face. anyways, in the photo you
can see tony and chris off in the lower corner with devilish grins on their
faces - undoubtedly because of some silly new contraption or something devised
by chris. then theres john sitting down somberly studying something i can't
quite make out. near john, but standing is jade, all aglow also with the
expectations of seeing elliott on the oscars. it turned out however that she
missed the oscars, and had to watch a tape of them the next day. then theres
deirdre all pretty in pink, with all her possessions lined out geometrically
and in a way she thought pleasing to the eye. with a smile on her face
suggesting she was giggling at the time ( deirdre in fact never laughs guffaws
or chortles she merely giggles , for anything else would be unladylike and not
very cute). lisa, jade and i were wary our conversation was in danger of being
overheard, which is the reason we are all on the opposite side of the photo.
finally there is mike, a very small smile on his face, slightly apart from
everyone else ( a little inconvienent the way he always sits a little ways
away, for he never talks in anything but a whisper). besides that, it was just
another monday, filled with the unsettling thoughts of a whole day of problems
and accidents just waiting to happen.
~Brian........who needs boys when there lisa around?

I keep this one in my top drawer, beneath my sweaters with the
antique string of pearls my mum gave me. It makes me a bit sad to look at
it, which is why it's tucked away, but I like to take it out on days when
I'm doing a lot of thinking.
It really should have been done in black and white, since it's
raining really hard and the clouds are all sorts of hues of grey. (NB:
there's a marketing idea for anyone on the prowl-- B&W polaroid film!)
There's my sister and me, sitting on our porch in wicker chairs, watching
the first spring storm of the year. I thought it would be nice to leave the
door open to let the warm wind gust through the house, but the cats would
have got out. A compromise: I left the screen open, so I could hear my
Trembling Blue Stars cd in the background. Music and rain go hand in hand.
(*the kettle's whistling, would you mind getting that?*)
I think we look a bit impish, with our legs hugged to our chests.
See those content smiles we're sporting? Yeah, the kind you got when you
were little and you were tucked into bed after a long day at the amusement
park, tummy full of cotton candy. Rebecca wanted us to run out and splash in
the puddles, but I was a stick in the mud and refused.
A few people passed us as we sat, soaking wet regardless of whether
they had a brolly or not. But since it was the first glorious break from
winter, no one seemed to mind. They ran by, laughing instead. One girl even
told us she was having a marvellous time, which was a rarity in a city where
strangers rarely speak to one another. I remember that cheered me up to no
end, since this was the day after a split from a friend who was no longer
the friend she used to be. With this new glimmer of well, not faith in
humanity exactly, but something like that, I wondered if she might ring me
back after all so we could sort things out.
After a while the rain quieted down a bit, so I went inside to cut
up the caramel fudge brownies I'd just made and make us some cappucinos with
my new machine.
The phone never rang, by the way.

um, my first ink polaroid:
(ahem)
this is a picture that was taken last night. it's kind of dark but that's
because the flash on my camera isnt working quite right.. anyway, that's me
in the chair with the guitar.. i guess you can tell by the expression on my
face that im in a good mood. obviously i am, it was the first time i could
play guitar outside in 6 months. do you see that bird on the railing? it's a
dove - not a white one - but a dove nonetheless. i named him sebastian. if
you look closely you can see belle's tail sticking out from the nest that
they built above our porchlight. belle is sebastian's wife and as she warms
up their eggs, he sits on the porch railing and keeps me company. last year
belle and sebastian's eggs fell from the light and cracked on the cement. it
was a very sad sight.. but i think this year they're going to make it.
i hope it wasnt too fuzzy for you...

Hello friends,
I just got a job renovating a landlord's apartment. She owns a large
building and rents many of the other apartments (flats to y'all UKers).
Today while working I heard Yo La Tengo blaring from a neighboring apt.
I thought,"cool, someone with some music sense lives here."
But in Chicago YLT sell 1000 tickets per show, so it wasn't _that_
exciting or anything. I know plenty of YLT fans.
But then I heard _...Sinister_.
Well well well, what're the chances of that?
So of course I had to meet this person and congradulate them on their
musical choices.
It was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen, and she said she wanted
me right there on the floor right then. So we made mad passionate love,
and by then end of "Judy..." I was back to ripping walls down.
Just kidding :)
He seems like a nice boy. An out-of-work actor [:P]. I didn't have the
opportunity to talk very long (I had to get back to work), but now B&S
have made me another friend.
I'm amazed how this band can bring people together [who fall in love and
get married ;) ].

Just lie back and think of chocalate at easter,
It's only a few weeks away.

Has anyone else on the list ever tried one of those computer programme
things which help you to focus your future by finding out jobs which
suit your personality and good looks?
There is useually one or two in the school/collage library.
And has anyone else been told that 'sorry but there are are no jobs
suitable to you, but there could be if you changed yourself to suit
cetain things' ?
And two add my two cents into the university debate, I'm 18, and at uni,
I love learning but still never do any work. Could there be a way of the
government taxing people like me who are lazy bastards but still got in
to Univesity? I would probably be a great help to the ecomony.
