For anybody who deosn't yet know, MM and NME both featured B&S quite heavily
in their singles of the year lists.....
NME
Lazy Line...no. 22
3,6,9....no 35
Melody Maker
3,6,9....no.33
Lazy Line.....no.34
Dog on Wheels....no.38
NME's is the slightly better list, it has Arab Strap at no13 with all the
usual Embrasis shit filling all of the other spots. MM has the Spice Slags at
23! and Aqua at 44. Nuff said.
Now I know most of you won't give a toss about such lists and rightly so, but
to us Stato-like, High Fidelity reading Saddoes they're great, so please
excuse my indulgence in bringing this to you...especially as The Verve are at
no 1 in both lists, and are from Wigan, like me!

Wow, B&S on Prime time TV! (Well, Channel 4 anyway.) Is this a first?
I was expecting someone to mention Adam and Joe, as every time I visit a
Website, someone talks about it on the list. Am I being watched? Or am I just
paranoid? I always miss the start of the show when I tape it...I'll look
closer in future.
More importantly, will Stuart Murdoch recieve 'Vinyl Justice' on a future
show?
(an 'Adam and Joe' feature in which they sneer at pop stars' record
collections). It would clear some wardrobe skeletons, and maybe even explain
Electronic Rennaisance....
Well, I'm off to wrestle with the IRC program. Thanks X1000 to Sarah for my
copy of Tigermilk, which is at this moment having babies, to be adopted by
waitng, loving parents.
Happy Xmas!
(and enjoy Manchester!)

Hello all. I am quite new to this whole thing and I am already feeling a
little bit awkward. I am from America, a country that has no idea about Belle
and Sebastian, and there aren't too many people other than my friends who
listen to B&S and love them as much as us. Does anyone know any information
about B&S doing an American tour?

Only joking. I love the list. A day on the list is like a day on the farm.
In any case, I can't do IRC during the day - at least.. not until next week!
Wahey! Permanent connection at work soon. Still, having said that, I'll be
unable to chat, given that I'll be deemed sad by my workmates. Well hungover
today I'm afraid, work night out last night - a whole lotta boozin' goin'
on.
Cool, off on holiday as of Friday.
Cheers,
Keith.

Hi,
I still haven't got my Manchester ticket (Sunday) thru the post yet despite
sending my cheque off the day ticket details were announced. Should I
be getting worried and/or are there lots of you in the same boat!?
cheers

>Re: Sinister: Fox in the street
Someone mentioned the Nick Drake biography just now. I will look out for
the Graham Coxon glasses lookalike next time I am in Books Etc. By
coincidence I met the bloke who wrote it on Sunday at a kids party my
niece went to. He doesn't have children but he lived next door. He seemed
really nice and we had a good chat about one of my musical heroes. He
seemed genuinely surprised that there was so much interest in the book.
But I don't think he knows quite how well it is selling.
He also wrote a book (I think he's called Patrick something) about
Fairport Convention so I asked him about Sandy Denny and tried to
persuade him to write about her because she is fantastic and I wanted to
know why she died falling down the stairs and whether it was a euphemism
like 'tired and emotional'.
Another subject entirely, but I just wondered whether any readers of this
list have watched 'The Adam and Joe Show' in the last few weeks. It is
connected slightly because there is a poster of 'Lazy Line Painter Jane'
poster in the title sequence which unfortunately gets covered up by Beck
I think. I sort of help produce it and its interesting to know what
people think.
I am going to see B & S with a couple of friend on the Sunday.

>Please note that I kept two mistakes from the original text: the author
>(Zeca Camargo) says that they have two singles (instead of 3 EPS, right?)
>and he really wrote "Lazy Pine..."
Hooray for Brazil (where the nuts come from...) !
Lazy Pine Painter Jane is fabulous mishearing/translation/typo. It
captures the ennui of working in an Ikea store. Any other paint related
B&S moments? If you're peeling (sinister)...You made me forget my
brush...The State this room is in...
Sorry about all that.
I'm not going to the Manchester gigs but I hope they are marvellous and
everyone has a wonderful time. Would people who are going take some Ink
Polaroids of it to share with the rest of the list??

A popular music concert on a Sunday!!!!! - and at half past
twelve, no less! I am shocked and stunned. I hope the band
have no intention of missing church choir duties that day.
Their well-publicised devotion to men of the cloth could
lead to a serious Chariots of Fire style dilemna. Whatever
would the Lord say?
I think the list is much better than IRC and I urge you all
to save at least some of your rambles for the good old
fashioned list. Having said that I was lucky enough to
stumble in on a nice conversation about Denim tribute bands
in Texas. Sadly I was cut off in my prime before getting to
the bottom of the matter. And just what is a tongue bath?
That was probably a nice picture of a fox, but on the digest
it just came through as a huge quantity of machine code
cobblers. But I am very excited at the prospect of another
competition. Vengeance is mine, and I will repay, sayeth the
Lord (him again?). I am still smarting after my cruel defeat
at the hands of "Choo Choo" Mitchell.

I, too, have been threatened by the Learning Resources Daemon
with evil torments (Bring me...the COMFY CHAIR!) if I even so much as
think about doing the IRC bad thing, and as I am a lovely law-abiding
art student, I will not entertain the notion of flouting these commands.
So...I can't chat to all you depraved people. Such is life. Do not
forget us stuck here on the list, which is still fabulous. We'll be
just fine without you, you vanload of harlots.
This is all I have to say on the matter, so there.
Lots of something,
Liz

O life is a glorious cycle of song:
A medley of extemporanea;
And love is a thing that can never go wrong;
And I am Marie of Roumania.
