hey. i deleted the message i'm responding to before i had a chance to
hit the "re:" button.
to that guy who said something about judy blume in his review of "pastie
de whatever"....
judy blume is some writer who's written some books that are quite
popular amongst pre teen girls here in the states. i remember one is
called "are you there god, it's me margaret" and i think she also wrote
"tales of a fourth grade nothing" and "superfudge" (i got read that book
every year from kindergarten to fourth grade by my various teachers)
i wouldn't say she's a high literary figure so if she gets mentioned in
the song, it's probably in jest.

Errm well I suppose I'd better carry on what has been started
I'm 20 ,an electronics student at Manchester Uni.
I once met Ed from the Chemical Bros (whose parents bought my housemates parents' house) at Sankeys Soap where he introduced me to Sean Moore from the Manics we chatted and apparently Mark Morrison is a bit of a tosser (as you all needed to be told!) and very short indeed (but then so is Sean) as they had been on TOTP together the week before.
I have also heard of Whiteout (saw them co-headline with Oasis many moons ago) in Royal Tunbridge Wells.
I don't have Tigermilk but have recently heard it (thanx Ben)
Oh and I support Gillingham F.C.
I am often described as a frail and sickly child (but I don't have a cold atm :)
The Spod
Oh and when I was three my mother and I bumped into maggie thatcher in a local shop, she patted me on the head and said how well behaved I was??
(does this count???)
PS I think I will have space in my house at B&S gig time (if ppl don't mind floors). Will everyone be meeting up before the gig?? If so where??

Not sure about the below list, but an atmospheric book is "Miss Smilla's Feelings
for Snow" - which is shortly to be made into a film - and I cannot remember the
author's name!
Also, has anybody heard of Waldo Williams?

Has anybody heard of
Simon Warner - new CD
"Waiting Rooms
(or how Simon Warner was delayed and his wardrobe suffered for it)"
Lush tunes and production, but I am unsure as to his voice! - a gravelly Scott
Walker perhaps!
Any help please!

Well, it's late in the day and I won't get round to posting this
tomorrow.
What will happen now is that myself, Paul, Duke and Andy will do
something along the lines of:
create a text file containing all the entries and mail addresses,
post it to each other,
giggle at a few of the entries,
post each other some more,
whittle it down to about 6 entries,
argue over a winner,
notify the list and re-mail the winning entry to the list.
The winner will also be notified privately.
Note though, that I havn't given a time frame for all of this!
We'll get started and hope to finish it soon, I'll even post a copy of
the entries to Belle and Sebastian to read,, this way they can nominate
one of the six finalists.
Cool?
David Kitchen
Already very busy creating a mail-out for all of you, and now much
busier!

So, in my first posting to the list, I can wet my pants rambling through my
tastes (risking the immediate ejection).
I believe everything JD Salinger wrote should be a delight for any B&S
amateur.
Not so B&S, but worth a journey: R.Carver & R.Ford.
My last crush: Didier Daeninckx - "Le facteur fatal" ( I read it in
Italian, so I don't know the English title).
My last shock: Jim Thompson - "The killer inside me" ( it's hard to find
yourself sympathizing with a cold blood murderer with not a hint of noble
reason in his behaviour).
P.Auster: I can't say he's so related with B&S, but his first movie (Smoke)
has something to do with Hal Hartley (transitive law:-).
OK. That's all. Bye Giuseppe

Well, I don't know about you, but for some reason I seem to find the
following to be similar:
1: the opening vocal melody line to "Dog on Wheels" and that of Nancy
Sinatra's "Summer Wine"?
2: the sleeve to "3,6,9..." and the image of Stuart M and Radio One DJ Jo
Whiley er, frolicking on the beach?
Or is it just me? I think we should be told :)

Well, this is a very late entry. Anyway...
Here I am on my bed last weekend when I was sick. The bottom half
of my bed is in front of the window. I put my pillow down there in
the mornings when the suns comes in. I pretend it's a daybed.
Behind me you can see the fern in the windowsill and a bit of the
lawn of the courtyard. My hair is a bit messed up, but that's
because I took my shower at 3.30 am. when I couldn't sleep. I have
on my wool sweater. I usually can't wear it because it's too warm,
but today when I had it on I still had chills. Oh, I have a scarf on
too, but that is because I wanted to wear it than having any medical
reason. My eyes are closed--I must have just dozed off to sleep.
The book next to me is _To the Lighthouse_. Unfortunately I still
had to do schoolwork whilst ill. Yeah, some parts of the photo
seemed a bit washed out, but as I said that's because the sun was
very bright and strong that morning. Although you can't see it, on
my desk I had my walkman and the tinny-sounding speakers set up. I
was listening to the cassette my father made me--classical music. It
somehow seemed proper to listen to it then. If this photo had been
taken later in the day, the same exact scene would have been set up,
except, perhaps, at night. The window panes would have reflected
the flash so parts would still be washed out. Some things are
unavoidable.
Cheers,
Matthew
