The best thing I've bought in a long time is "Arkology" by
Lee Perry and chums.
The second best thing is Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Warner
Archives"
The third best thing is Led Zeppelin's "Remasters" which has
improved a lot since I sold the tape version a couple of
years ago. It's much better if you can skip out the crap
ones annd get down to some serious riffing.
On the indie front, I like "Chorus" by Flying Saucer Attack,
which I was lucky enough to rescue from the bargain bucket.
Really good muffled drum sounds.
I also bought Chumbawamba, but I haven't got past the first
song yet. I suppose everyone's mightily sick of it by now,
but it makes me feel a bit homesick. But not much.

I was on the bus today and it was shitty weather as usual, pouring rain
and cold and gross. And then "Fox in the Snow" came through my walkman
and everything was perfect and fine and.... just right. Probably the
most fitting song, for the moment, I've ever heard.

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing, but obviously there's two of
us. So get to fixing those numbers Paul! Anyways I had a hard time
finding B&S in Canada. I did see it downtown at an HMV for $21.99
because it's an import here. I just waited until I went to the states
and bought it for ,I believe, $11.49. I got "Dog On wheels" and "LLPJ"
from Parasol.
And John Stuart is gonna tape me Tigermilk as soon as I send him the
tapes. Sorry John, but, as I'm sure most of you, tuition sucks.
And oh yeah, I heard about them through the indie-pop list. And
actually lately there's been about three or four reviews of the album in
a couple of Toronto's weeklys. I think there's only been one positive
one and the rest were all luke-warm.

It's amazing how different a song can sound when it rains. I've never
listened to Belle & Sebastian in the rain before....I can't recall the last
time it rained in LA.....Driving to work I actually had my windshield
wipers on....they were smacking round to the exact tune of "Judy And The
Dream Of Horses."....Right then I realized i'd not heard that song since I
saw B&E in NYC, and I was taken right back there to a room full of glowing
people who weren't thinking about anything except Belle & Sebastian, all
thinking at once..."I can't believe i'm here." I just remember the trumpet
and drums kicking in and EVERYONE slightly bouncing up and down on their
feet, and feeling the hard-wood floor underneath completely moving. I
remember Matt Neimark turning round and having this "oh...my....God...."
look on his face, and seeing tears starting to fill Felicia's eyes......It
was the most incredible exchange of energy i've ever felt....And everyone,
was looking at Stewart. I had to refocus my eyes on the road so I didn't
run off, re-watching this all in my head....And, of course, by the time the
cd had started over and made it half-way through "The Stars Of Track And
Field" I was crying, it was raining harder, and I was pulling into the
parking lot where I work.
funny what a little rain does to people in California.

I always thought that b&s are a worthy reincarnation of the band of holy
joy. they stopped 1990 and left a huge hole in my musical landscape.

Hello there,
I am that 1 subscriber in Japan.
Here is the B&S informations in this country.
TOSHIBA EMI just released "If you're -"LP.
I am not sure if this is due the the TOSHIBA's big
promotion on B&S or not, but most of the music
mazgazine reviews, here in Japan, are very - hmmmm, supportive - or
welcoming.
Most of the critics are taking B&S sounds as highly
fashionable. To prove that, even in a Japanese fashion
magazine called "FIGARO JAPON" which is quite hi-fashion magazine which
is relevant to Harpers or Vogue in UK (or maybe more classy, because
that magazine contains full of "the supermodels in more than GBP500
clothes with famous fashion photographers' shot" type).
And the review in FIGARO is highly recommending B&S.
It says, in Japanese music industry, B&S sounds are called in comparison
as "minstrel of the modern age"
I am not sure of the existance of "a fanclub" in Japan,
yet.
Anyway, B&S has TOSHIBA rabel in Japan now, so I will
see B&S faces in a lot of Japanese music magazines very soon.
P.S. I was sending "FIGARO JAPON" magazine to my friend
Susan in Hamilton who is a friend of "Adrian".
I wonder if this make sense to you....
Cherrio,
KAORI

Hello,
I promised someone a dub of 'Tigermilk' he sent his address to me and I
have very stupidly lost it.
You lived in Northern Ireland but that is all I remember.
Email me again and I will send it off straight away. I can even put the
new EP on the tape which I have accidentally got hold of.
Hopefully hear from you soon

Sorry, too lazy to put them below the words, you'll just have to work that out yourselves...
Sleep the clock around:
E - B - C#m - A repeat until end... dead easy
A Century of Fakers:
Verse : D - A6 - G - D - G - D - A
Chorus : Bm - G - D - A
Get me away I'm dying:
Verse : F# - C# - Ebm - Bbm - B - F# - B - C#
F# - C# - Ebm - Bbm - B - F# - Ab - B
Chorus : (C# - B) x 3 Ebm - Bbm (B - F#') x4
And that's it.
Cheers,
Keith.

I got sent the promo CD yesterday morning and have found myself
singing (well, more like mumbling) 'Le Pastie De La Bourgeosie' all
day, in the oddest of places - like in B&Q while buying plaster!
I'm not going to attempt to review any of it.
You'll all buy it You'll all love it!!
but you'll have to wait for a couple of weeks for it.
(am I beginning to sound smug? I apologise - but I can't help it)
I don't know if the vinyl will have it but there's a groovy little
semi-accoustic number about 20 seconds after 'Put the Book
Back on The Shelf' (and it's 2 and a half minutes long)
Here are the lyrics:
Belle & Sebastian on the Radio,
Playing Songs for Children,
Belle & Sebastian on the Radio,
Playing Songs to Learn and Sing,
(repeat)
Belle & Sebastian on the Radio,
and we're really sorry,
for all the trouble we've caused,
and all the trouble we've caused
This Wee song is screaming out to be anylysed.
Does it have a Pastels reference ('Songs for Children')? Mind you,
on that reasoning it would have an Echo and The Bunnymen reference
- not so good I think.
Are they apologising for their avoidance of media relations, or for
blatantly putting out quality songs which are threatening to chart.
Maybe they're apologising to us for not re-releasing Tigermilk!
Who knows?
To any of you resident in Edinburgh (or nearabouts) this means I'll be
playing at least 'A Century of Fakers' & 'Le Pastie' at The Egg on
Saturday.

I'm up for that (but not on a Saturday, mind).
Mail me if you've got something organised.
Cheers,

I don't understand all the fuss about getting the first 2 singles on CD. I
just stopped by the shop where my friend does orders. He had both Dog and
Lazy in, and said he's had no problems getting them at all.
So I'm really excited now, after getting Tigermilk on monday, now more new
tunes!
(plus the new stereolab to boot!!!) <- non B&S material.
take care
