Frankly I've found it a blessing to read the posts from our NYC friends
still euphoric over witnessing B&S in the flesh - compared to the bollox
debate over which radio DJ is shit or not. Its the music that counts. I
don't mind Peely playing shit techno,'cause I know he'll get round to
playing something good or even fantastic at some point in the show, its
like panning for gold.
The same would go for Radcliffe and Lard if I could be bothered listening
to sanitised mainstream breakfast radio.
As for MES:

post Dog On Wheels my arse. Show your age man! This "I was into(insert
band name here) before you / since their first single" attitude sucks a big
one.
Immature indie kids normally come out with statements as wise as yours,
since they usually believe most fans of a band must be recent bandwagon
jumpers.
The fact that we're here 'debating' at all indicates we can tell exactly
which note is biting us on the arse. B&S are probably the best band I've
heard in the last two years. Their songs of awkwardness, emotions and the
ordinary sharply contrast with most of the one-dimensional popstar-wannabes
which choke up the 'Indie'(and increasingly mainstream) chart.
Phew! sorry, I got carried away there.
What a way to introduce myself.
"and remember an egg is good for you!"

I had never seen Belle and Sebastian before, (as I would assume is true of
many of us). First of all I just want to say that it was a total joy.
They really treated making beautiful music as a collective project and that
charm made the audience really respectful of their set, that is not an easy
thing to get out of a New York Audience. Stuart Murdoch is a suprisingly
good frontman, I figured his voice wouldn't be audible but I could hear
every word. This made the fact that about 9 of the 11 songs they played
last night were new and unfamiliar to me a good thing and not a bad thing.
The new lyrics are wonderful and I am filled with excitement at the idea of
this collective having a long and prolific career. The venue was an
incredibly beautiful converted Temple and it was really suitable for their
sound. All of the instruments sounded great except for the bass and I
don't know whether that
was because of bad playing, a bad bass amp or what... The songs that I
know that they did were Dylan in the Movies, Stars of Track and Field, and
Lady Line Painter Jane. They closed with Loneliness of the Middle Distance
runner which is a real gem of a song.
I just want to add that I have been to hundreds of shows in my life and
never have I seen a better looking audience. I know that has something to
do with the youthfulness of the band and the fact that it was the lower
east side but it made me wonder if you are all beautys too. :)
I can't wait to hear the new record... the new songs are a step up
lyrically AND musically from If You're Feeling Sinister, I have not doubt
it will be an awesome record. Anyone else go last night?

Did anyone see this months record collector? This guy was selling Tigermilk for £18, the idiot. I wrote to him and told him I'd pay more, but he just wrote back and said he already sold it for 18 pounds. Eighteen bastard pounds! The last one sold for 200 didn't it?

I thought it meant everyone was giving him grief until his brother came out and became a focus of attention and stuff, but no doubt someone will post some thing about hidden meanings and reading stuff into the fact that he thought of himself first etc.
Why can't it be like the good old days when everyone talked about stuff that was really thinly connected to B&S? Like cats and buses? By the way when do the results of voting for your favourite B&S song thing on that other B&S website come out? What did everyone vote for? Did Fox in the snow get any votes?
P.S. I'm not saying that fox in the snow is shit or anything, It's just that you have to be in the right mood.

I know the cheesiness debate has run it's course, but I can't let it lie
without adding my halfpennyworth. This man (Chris Douridas) is the utter
bane of Los Angeles radio, and his genuine love of B&S does not in
anyway impede his outright crappiness. My hatred is born of having to
listen to him on office radio every morning. None of his syrupy
sincerity gives him the right to go anywhere near a microphone.
Unlike John Peel. I don't know what he's like nowadays, and it's been a
long time since I actually actively listened - but I was always glad he
was there. Like the National Gallery. I may not visit, but I don't want
it to go away. He played me the GoBetweens. And Felt. I owe him.
You truly don't know how lucky you are in the UK, at least as far as
radio goes. And TV for that matter. The only thing you're missing is
103.9 soul oldies.
So I know it's too early to expect an answer, but does anyone expect
anything to come of the West Coast tour hinted at earlier? Can I take
the hint to mean that they like it over here and might actualy return?
By the way, Chris' great insight into B&S was "they sound like Donovan."

PS One of Moose used to work in Record and Tape Exchange. I wonder if
he's back there?
