dear sinister people, ..i saw my math teacher in a music video,you know the rockafeller skank/fatboy slim...the cowboy! it's him! it's him! (speaking of,aren't those 3 dancers lovely? where can i hire them to dance for me?) some of you were talking about urban being associated with poor...oh no no...it's always the rural bits you get the jokes at,come ON! my town has always been the joke among city folk... yes yes i get my water from a well..(and no old men who eat creamed corn through a straw do not bathe in it)..and it tastes damn good....no chemicals you know ok,like what's wrong with my computer..on that chat thingy it keep saying 'valid name,no data record of requested type' what's wrong? i tell it i love it...it acts cold again and again..help me a 16+ show!i've never heard of that restriction... is the strangest...why don't they just make it all ages? i never understand who came up with this weird age number restriction cutoff..do they think 15 year olds will be filled with thoughts of pre-marital sex,drugs and rock and roll,bad janitor closet situations and then suddenly..16 and mature and responsible? there should be an intelligence test,all the idiots can sit on the cold cold curb and see how it feels...and i mean,really at a belle and sebastian show too,how naughty could it get ("oooooooh do you really want me to answer that genevieve" whispers stuart murdoch from his shadowy corner. "oh behave" she replies,with a twinkle in her eyes) Big Stu/Formerly Tall Git..how sad you sound.. I missed you anyways,does that count? (it should!) It's why no one liked the Smiths yet were more willing to embrace Morrissey with a hard glam sound back in 92. Still, I can't wait. If everything goes to plan, I will be in Boston to see them. Hello kids, I am the french guy who was so lucky to talk to Isobel after the show in Strasbourg 2 days ago. Belle and Sebastian will come the to US soon (yu know that of course) and Isobel seemed to be a little bit anxious. She is afraid that americans will not love belle & sebastian. She told us that she had read some nasty things from the US and so she feels a bit afraid. I said that there were many listees in the US that really love them! She answered "You know, I dont know anything about Internet. I dont know how to send a email!". So she never had a look at the beautiful messages from the US... She would have understood that you are waiting for them! We told her that the american fans will wellcome Belle & Sebastian the same way as we wellcome them in Europe. I'm relying on you! I'm sure you will love them! Lordy. New York is pretty darned good, isn't it? I'm back 5 days and already I'm bored of Dublin. Anyways, my enormous thanks to the wonderful folk I met during my brief hiatus. The picnic was marvellous, JonnyKat was a star and Megan's socks were a feast for the eyes. That said, if you ever meet that Mick boy, hide your bicycle. So I was to do the monday poem thing? Sorry. I'd been away and both of my maiboxes were misbehaving, but I shall endeavour to find something of a sufficiently high quality for your high-falutin' tastes post-haste. May I be so bold as to suggest FunkySeb to entertain your literary needs in the intervening time? The good will out, boy. I truly believe it. Thanks too to Debbie for being complimentary about my tree tape. I've only gotten one so far (sniff) but I plan to ambush wee Nickie and nab Ronan and Claire's tapes from her sweaty paws. Must be particularly good, mustn't the?. So is anyone else going to the gig in Brussels, then? Isn't it strange how you realise what little you have to say to 700 people once you begin to write. I'm getting all shy now. Suffice to say that you lot cheer me greatly. Just stop listing bands. And buy 'Here My Dear'. Hello. B&S get Record of the Week in El Pais newspaper. There's a picture of Isobel thoughtfully trying to get the wax out of her ear with her finger, as seen in the Cd booklet. The review would probably seem a lot better if we hadn't read so many lately, but in the interests of trainspotterish completism, here is a rough translation: Bitter Softness: the British group distill whispering and studenty pop. Since the beginnings of Al Stewart ("Bedsitter Chronicles", 1967), there has been a school of singer-songwriters in the UK who express themselves with crappy guitars and sing softly, so as not to bother the neighbours or out of pure embarrassment. B&S act anonymously and make pop that is both homemade and extremely refined that one expects of artistes that recorded for Cherry Red or El records in the eighties. To avoid the sorry destiny of their predecessors, the group reject thematic twatty tweeness, talk about love with a certain rawness and show British audacity (in "Seymour Stein" they take the piss out of the record company chief of the same name). At first glance, they seem to be simple student troubadours, but they exhibit "hip" sarcasm and unusual musical references (Motown! Acid Jazz!). In fact, their perversity goes as far as "wasting" some of their best songs in the EPs that they release between LPs. Curious, my dear Watson. Diego A. Conclusive proof that journalists the world over are tuned in and turned on to Sinisterine activity. There's also a half page advertisement, featuring an even greener Chris Geddes even closer up. It looks like a still from Andy Warhol's film "Blow Job". I bought "Here, My Dear" by Marvin Gaye. It reminds me a bit of "Exile On Main Street", in so far as it's quite long and sounds like shit at first, but then starts to sound really good. I like that, much better than the other way round. So, OK, while we're on the subject of Willy Wonka and poetry-quote attributions, I think there's another line in the movie that comes from somewhere else... when Mr. Wonka says, "We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams." (approximately; haven't seen it in a while.) Do any of you poetry-lovers know the original source? Maybe John's mother can tell us. I don't think it's Shakespeare, but maybe something 19th century... I ran across it in the library once but I can't remember where, and it's been bothering me ever since. Sinister: Curses to you flashing blade!

Aha! A Flashing Blade reference! So I wasn't dreaming, it did exist!!! None of my friends remember the Flashing Blade (though many still have nightmares about Heidi), so I tried to sing them the theme song. Tragically I was only young when I was younger, so can't actually remember the lyrics - which results in me singing the first line loudly and proudly, then lowering my head and dribbling into my fake-eggshell pseudo-cardie as I suddenly realise that the only chance I've got of coming up with a second line, is to rearrange the first a bit, but leave the same word at the end so it kinda rhymes when I mumble. So, what I generally end up with is: "You've got to fight for what is right, and all that you believe//It's right to fight for what you want (dribbling rapidly increases at this point) and all that you believe... I know it's wrong, but at least the tune's okay - but someone help me; what were the lyrics? Oh yeah, whilst I'm writing, definitely Daphne from Scooby Doo, followed by Wilma Flintstone ("She'll never leave Fred..."). Guess I'm just a sucker for redheads - especially those framed in a silhouette of black ink. That is all.
