What to do... what to do? There's something about a new found relationship that feels so warm and gooey that you have to address it properly with your pants down and a moist finger in the air... As you have probably gathered by this completely useless gabber, I am new to this sort of thing. As regards the Divine mix tape, I'm afraid it has been expertly put together on the wheels of steel by Dr "Spinmaster" Symington, and I expect Alan too, although I'm sure Anne can keep us right on that one, so your dreams of becoming a DJ champ are stuffed before they even began. I'm disappointed to see that Dr.CB Stride in his advert for his really indie club is only planning on celebrating the release of the Fieldmice compilation and not on celebrating the release of the Levellers and Paul "the Modfather" Weller's greatest hits cashins that hit the shops within the next few weeks, when can we expect nights for these? I found a bit about the Lotus Eaters to read by the way recently and it turns out they were quite popular in different places, apparently they had a top 10 hit in Italy in the mid-eighties, I liked that first picture of you song. Do they rule? Or is it a "hand me down a can of beans" case? Oh and I do wish I had a specially modified Pop brain, maybe one of these days when the Bionic man becomes a reality this'll be able to happen. Talking of Evel Knievel, they had an Evel Knievel night recently on BBC2, and it was bloody brilliant, there was a bit where he tries to fly across a canyon, but only makes it about 50 feet and lands in the river. The commentary is hilarious, as they try to make everything out to be death-defying, like when he lands, softly in the river, they're all shouting "Is he gonna be OK? Is he going to make it to the edge alright?" etc, and he's about 15 feet from the edge of the canyon - it's just as well he's a strong swimmer. Carrick, your Roger Daltrey hair goes down very well with me, and I expect Mr.Miller too, being great WHO fans as we said for several months on end boring everyone to tears. Is your hair the 70's incarnation of Roger Daltrey? If so, it's even better. Does anyone know if the 70's WHO plan on releasing any new albums in the near future? It's been a while since the last one. Cut me some slack, Tag, I get the digest, if I'd known I'd sent it three times I'd have apologized straight off. O.K. SORRY EVERYONE I HAD NO IDEA WHY OR HOW I SENT MY POST THREE TIMES IN A ROW. IF I COULD HAVE PREVENTED IT I WOULD HAVE. Why do you think I'm trying to give everyone the idea that I'm some kind of Soul Rebel? I don't have any hard and fast views on body image, all I've really noticed about it (or thought about it) is that the people =I'm= usually attracted to are the ones who seem perfectly happy with who they are no matter how they look, you know, the ones with that kind of inner dignity and confidence. And some of them were real cows, too. Heh heh. I think =that's= something everyone should aspire towards. Really. The dignity and confidence part. The only reason why I felt the need to reply was because (Fluffy?)'s post not only accused all men's desires of shaping women unhealthily (which is partially true but) also that we have some kind of easily-circumscribed monolithic desires. I don't think the crimes of eating disorders can be lain strictly at the feet of men, particularly after two weeks ago I went home for a weekend and at a sorority party the "sisters" had all their pledges lined up and invited people to come up and circle areas of fat on their naked bodies with black magic marker. Not that sorority girls are the best or brightest (nor fraternity brothers... some of them went so far as to circle the pledges' breasts (!??!!?) ) but that's some pretty frightening complicity with the patriarchy, no? Somebody tell me at least what a perfect world would be. How did we get started talking about this? I really wanted lite cream cheese this morning, I swear, I couldn't help it.... just... one.... more.... bite... I'm so desperately unhappy at work that I've decided to write to Blue Peter asking them for a job. My mum came to stay last weekend and I played her TBWTAS. She said "Is this Belle and Sebastian?" She's never heard them except from me. But then she leads a sheltered life with her Radio Four and her clay and her recorder pupils. I thought she'd like the recorder playing in the title song but she had a few things to say about the tonguing technique. Now I've masked it with ephemera, my confession is that I'm not so keen on the songs on TWATTYBUS on which Stuart doesn't sing... after many listens I now find myself skipping Is It Wicked Not to Care and Seymour Stein because they just don't have the same appeal. I feel obscurely disappointed when a song begins and the "wrong" voice starts singing. Their voices meld beautifully with Stuart's but on their own they lack something... On a lighter note, may I add my voice to the general clamour for more Rod on the list? Rod, where are you?
