Sinister: Elliott Smith in Motown Last Nite.

i was not really a huge elliott smith fan before the show, but i was quite turned on to him tho when he played his set.my, a fantastic show. 450 tickets presold, 550 sold at the door. it made for a nice sold out evening. i guess elliott smith was buggered by the djing last nite and told him to stop playing the buzzcocks and wedding present songs , which, if i had sold out the magic stick, i would quit my bitching and be thankful. oh well. the man has paid his dues. let us all be happy. (props tgiven for the kinks songs played b4 the opening act, Quasi) one question...grant it, it is elliott smith . he's been around for awhile. ok , hes a pop genius. but, Where are all these people when it comes time to LOCAL shows? i know many of us just do not know many of our local bands.but dammit, people, there is talent out there. Liking Belle and Sebastian is about being young and clever. Liking Marilyn Manson is about being young and webellious. I've never been sure which is more P!O!P!, but I was never very good at being webellious, whereas being clever is easy. I did once making a long atonal noise for several hours when my parents refused to let me stay up to watch 'Psycho', but they kept their nerve and I fell asleep. By the way, being webellious is definitely different to being rebellious, but is quite similar to being billious. Anyway, they next time these girls make an idiotic remark along these lines, make like you're squaring up for a fight, with your face right in theirs. Then lick them. They will probably taste horrid, but at least you'll gain the moral advantage. As it's a quiet day for the list, I think I'll add my halfpennyworth (did anyone else think that there was a bizarre creature called an "apeth" when they were little? I got called a daft apeth more times than I care to remember. And I always got told off for using "that toner voice". It took many years and one extremely embarrassing incident before I realised that toner was not in this case an adjective). Is Archel really from Sussex (how weird. I just honestly wrote "success" instead. What can it mean)? There's something about her that screams San Francisco. Which brings me onto my next question. My mate in SF sent me a tape which had a song by some geezer called Alan Wiley (I think) on it, and I could swear I've seen that name mentioned on the list before. Can anyone tell me what he's all about? What else...my regular invitation to listees to pop along to *popstarz* in Holborn this evening if they get the chance - you'll get to see the none-more-glam Lady Penelope strutting his stuff, and if we can buy StayLuckyRory enough beers there's always the chance of seeing the nineties Peter Bonetti doing the groovy turkey on the dancefloor. And you don't want to miss that, believe me. Have we had the official line on live bootlegs from ver management yet? Unsurprisingly, I'd love to get some tasty cuts from various of the recent shows, but this is presumably even more illegal than the ongoing Tigermilk furore. Though I can't quite see a B&S live spectacular gracing the shelves in HMV (spit, apparently) for some time... God, I'm boring these days. Sorry to waste your time... LittleBlondOne xxx p.s. Cheese - Taleggio is just great, and they sell it in sainsbury's - but it has to be Parmesan, really, and I'll fight anyone who disagrees. Sinister: mojave 3

mojave 3's "out of tune" has now replaced B&S on my turntable...i know...i know...this isn't really B&S related...but in a way, it is...because mick cooke is involved (albeit on two tracks already released on singles)...however, i haven't been so moved since the recent B&S...and i don't think there is a mojave 3 list... it's simply fantastic, though clocking in at nine tunes (3 of which had already been released), it's a short high...anyway, my request to all you fans who may be going to one of the upcoming shows in the uk...email me privately...i'm interested if anyone is taping the show or if they're selling any "fan" stuff at the gigs...even just an email to let me know how it was...i'd really appreciate it. i apologize to those who could care less about this posting...but if you haven't heard it, it's simply beautiful...a bit drake, a bit dylan...all halstead (along with the divine rachel goswell and mysterious ian)...and don't forget mick's trumpet on two tracks! anyway, thanks for your tolerance. jim. +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". I've just got back to uni, and I hope I haven't missed *too* much. I went to the London show in September, and I thought it was wonderful, despite the wait.
