Sinister: Angels of Scotland and Paris unite (and take over)

Hello everyone :) St�phane has wrote the perfect letter about the Paris concert. That was exactly what I thought after it. I was quite happy that evening and they made me feel happier. Joyful indeed. And, yes, angelic... Angels, angels... that's the right word. The *only* word. Mmmmm... Bernard Lenoir said yesterday he had heard that the session was better than the concert. I don't know. I don't care. The fact is that they played without touching the ground. Hey ! Angels have no soul : only thrilling cristal voices and wings. They played in the air, and they took us (well, me at least and St�phane apparently) with them away. They sang a delightful version of "Lazy line painter Jane" -- quite laidback and joyful, with a brilliant, warm, blazing, noisy final. Actually I made the wish before the gig that they'd play it... I tell you they're angels... I really appreciated the audience too. Respectful, silent, but very enthusiast as well. I mean, the gig was absolutely not a religious moment. We just showed *respect*. I truly think something happened between them and us. We compelled them to be less shy that night, I think. However I disagree with St�phane about the venue. To me La Cigale is the perfect one. Not too big, not too small -- and lovely (it's my fave here). Just *perfect*. BUT... why don't they play much longer ? 15 songs, 1 hour and 10 minutes, no encores, that's very disappointing and maybe a bit (I dare !) scornful. I don't mean they are so, but that it's their behaviour that is. I mean, they're so rare and they know so much that they are... I'd like to thank St�phane for having give me a copy of a little wonder called "Tigermilk" too. I wish I could have given him the tape of the session he asked me (I'm feeling so bad for that !) and talked more to him. He was so busy that I just had time to say hello... But the delightful girl I was with and me agree to say he looks adorable. Pour une prochaine fois, peut-�tre... Is the song "Lord Anthony" about the children's clothing company of the same name? If so, I presume it is a Murdoch composition. Katrina, we miss you terribly. Shrine - The Rarest Soul Label - on Kent A good trick is to read the introductory pieces written about Kent releases on the Ace Records website. If the reviewer appears to have completely lost his trolly due to extreme ecstasy, it's usually good. If they just seem to say, well, it's really good, it's probably not that good really. Good but not great. Or great but not truly magnificent. You get the idea. This one gets raved about big style by Adrian Croasdale or whatever his name is. He seems to know his onions. Must be a right freak in fact. 5000 Volts of Stax - on..erm.. Stax As above. Not strictly Northern Soul, but I still don't know what that is anyway. Sounds great, I love Stax. You-Know-Who is on it. And the Staple Singers. Signifying! - on BGP Greasy organ led jazzy funk instrumentals. Great for parties. Probably. There are loads of others I could recommend to myself, but I'd get my mailbox jammed with "returned due to boredom" messages. Which, incidentally, is a terrible idea. I thought I wouldn't be sending to the list, being all scrivened out (doesn't that sound like a squirrely, wiggly line), but last night I was listening to this song last night and I thought I might appeal to the Brazilians of the list and ask the following question: what are the lyrics to O sonho acabou, by Gilberto Gil. Just got A temperada verao (ao vivao na Bahia), 1974, and listening to it last Saturday, driving through the Berkeley hills in the morning, just after getting all stretched out and yummy from yoga class, oh what pleasure. (A little taste of california life) The air was so clear, you could see all the way out to the Golden Gate, and everything was crystal. David, my friend was quiet all the way, a painter. I asked him how he was and said, "I'm good. Just thinking about the day ... it's so beautiful out." So it was a perfect day for the song, which has such joy and the audience responding with all its heart, and Mr. Gilberto Gil can't contain himself with all his chirps and yelps. Also, even though it sounds like a good idea to try to make the list less boring, I don't know how it could help things to tell people to be more interesting or shut up. There's probably someone out there that automatically deletes me, or Fluffy, or Mr. jake, or whoever. That which is entertaining to you may not be entertaining to others. There are a lot of sensitive people on this list, I've noticed, and being told how boring you are couldn't exactly make your day, and maybe not illicit a more interesting response (I'll leave it up to you to decide what interesting is). It may illicit no response and then maybe no one would contribute to the list except people with their guards up and their tails between their legs, trying to look cool instead of like themselves. maybe I'm not understanding what you meant.In which case, you can delete this message. But keep the saturday morning bit, there's really no harm in it. But after three hours, I was still stuck in the rain near Willesden. The railway carriage was lit by one functioning light bulb, which a gang of 12 year olds were busy trying to murder. I stared out the window with wet eyes at the InterCitys flashing past underneath. Speeding along at 70 mph can make you feel like you're going somewhere. The train's so sure of its destination that you can forget your own aimlessness. But when you're sat in a siding, in the rain, there's nothing that can quite hide the truth. That you're not going anywhere. I eventually got to Kensal Rise. Late in the day, as the grey sky slowly turned to orange. But Kensal Rise isn't Kensal Road. Jeepster was still a mile away. I'd spent the whole day trying to get somewhere, and in the end, it wasn't even the place I wanted to go. That night I dreamed of Jeepster, dreamt I'd got there. It was an old cinema, full of people, all talking and having fun. But when they saw me, it all when quiet. And then they left. Mmm, a parable for you there. And a dream. I dreamt I saw the cover of the next album last night. It looked damn good. And I know the tracklisting. But it's too late to tell you now. Hello, I would like to apologise to Oon and Oon's family for saying she and her mother have a gambling problem. It was a very irresponsible statement and totally untrue. Oon is not at all addicted to the Thai underground lottery thing, and has never resorted to theft to feed her entirely fictional filthy habit. And she wasn't nearly expelled from school for it either. It's all lies. She's as pure as they come. Also, Oon doesn't scare as easily I would in a taxi motorbike in Thailand. I just want to make that clear. I scare more easily than Oon, and she certainly does not have a gambling problem.
