I tried talking to a girl on the train today, but it didn't end up working out well and I ended up talking to her friend instead. I brought my copies of Sinister and Tigermilk with me to work today, as well as my copies of the softies it's love and the masters of the hemisphere disc. I like to listen to music on my computer when NPR is not playing the Diane Reim show or Talk of the Nation, which is right now. Speaking of Diane Reim, she had Joanne Rowling on talking about the Harry Potter books. I don't know what to think of it. Part of me wants to see what all of the stink is about, while another part of me says it can't be all that good. But I think she should be congratulated for writing something that children WANT to read. Maybe I will buy the first one, just to see what the deal is and so I can have it when I have children some day and am encouraging them to read. After J.K. Rowling, Diane has Edmund Morris on. He's the guy who wrote the controversial biography of Ronald Reagan, where he created a fictional character called Edmund Morris to relate the story. While he stole this device directly from TIm O' Brien, I think he is clever for using the device in a work of supposed non-fiction, because it calls into question the nature of non-fictional works. However I have a disdain for Morris' assertion that he is an impartial observer of Reagan's life. I think he wrote it to piss off Republicans and is too gutless to admit it. I think it is great though. Morris related a story that Reagan nearly became a Communist but the American Communist Party thought he had too big of a mouth and wouldn't take him. Who would have known that this rejection would lead to him becoming the anti-Christ (politically speaking) I find it kind of humorous that I read more now than I did when I was in college. Fight Club (the novel, not the movie) is excellent. I want to see the movie now just to see how they pulled it off. I have the Best American Short Stories 1999 on deck and then either a book by Russell Banks or J.G. Ballard. I haven't decided yet. Anyone who doesn't think Belle and Sebastian rock out has obviously not heard I Could Be Dreaming or Me and the Major. I think I'm starting to ramble. Sinister: Enormous cartoon sausage

Dear all, I think in light of the Canadian possé's brushes with Degrassi characters the English fraternity should enlighten on the present activities of the cast of our very own Grange Hill. For instance, Zammo (who was the man who said yes long before that bloke from Delmonte) is a locksmith in central London and his on screen girlfriend Jackie apparently sells flowers on the Embankment. While Doyley props up the bar in the Windmill pub in Hounslow, who I once managed to piss off by putting The Doors "The End" on the Jukebox. I don't even like the Doors it's just that at 16 minutes long, or whatever, it seemed extraordinarily good value. It nearly went down as badly with the regulars as putting REM's "Hairshirt" on every time I went to the Milford Arms in Isleworth. People ended up actually kicking the jukebox as they hankered for Milli Vanilli, Paula Abdul or something. Very funny. In fact this could be classified under the sport "townie baiting", which is illegal in some countries. I guess it was lucky old Alistair Scotty wasn't there as if he would have kicked them back for not respecting Stipey's whines and it could have got very messy. Onto more pertinent matters, Looper were indeed a bit flat the other night, though, as mentioned the supporting exotic* narcotic poet and the hour long wait there in pub hours didn't help. I was kind of surprised as they had got some good write ups here, but I also saw Hefner for free that night and they were a bit bloody fantastic. Again. Thanks to Starry and Mr Daffy Moore (whose review of Nalda Said I eagerly anticipate) for the multiple Looper tickets, I was unfortunately unable to sell them to unsuspecting tourists though. Well, I really thought I would probably never post again, but here I am talking to god knows how many strangers once more. Yes, I too have fallen for somebody who was once a sinister stranger. It sounds like a similar story to Amanda's, only much earlier in the game and much less likely to work out. Well, she does live half a world away. Fuck, I've started quoting Oasis lyrics. Somebody shoot me! After 'meeting' through Jim Schmidts not-so-secret (for us) Santa tape exchange last Christmas, myself and...lets call her Bob, Blackadder style (sorry, but she doesn't know that I'm sending this and may not want to be known)...we emailed each other pretty much everyday. And then the phone calls started...and eventually I visited her in beautiful California. Getting off the plane I could feel a thinnish, gooey substance running down my leg. For the dirty minded among us, I mean I was shitting myself ok? I was to be there, staying in her flat for 12 days. What if we never got on? As it turned out there was no need. They have toilets in America too. How was I to know? Anyway, we hit it off straight away, and a touch of romance seemed to be blossoming after as little as 2 days. And it just kept on blossoming and we kept on bosoming. Hoho, what word trickery I have at my disposal. Seriously though, I really did end up falling for her badly. Fuck it, I fell in love with her. And yes, I am well aware of how ridiculous that sounds. And yes, I agree people do not fall in love within 12 days of meeting, not outside of Hollywood anyway. My head says I'm being idiotic, naïve and that it's all hopeless. My heart is saying something totally different, but I can't translate that into English. I have had a holiday romance in the past and this is definitely different. And the feeling is mutual. At least I think and hope it is. It's just a totally shitty situation to find yourself in. But I'm glad of it anyway (what happened rather than the situation). Does anybody out there know where I can get my hands on a teleportation machine? Love to you all, but especially to you Bob! Can anyone help me with the remaining clues on mycryptic pop quiz? i.e. These urban evangelist are wild = Manic Street Preachers & Easy Primary Colour = Simply Red etc etc The remaining clues are: 1. Dear Sinister listers: Its been a tough time of it lately having to try an reconcile the personal life which BTW, is not working and try to keep the future in perspective.... This list has always been a good vehicle to vent ones frustrations or shortcomings being that most B&S fans are sensitive to these sort of goings-ons and do sympathize or pretend to care more than the average internet list subscribing dolt..... I am still reading "High Fidelity". Yes, I am a slow reader since I usually read 4-5 books at once, now being "Tha Tao Of Pooh" by Benjamin Hoff, "High Fidelity" by Nick Hornby, "The Gormenghast trilogy" by Mervyn Peake and"The Myth Of Sisyphus" by Albert Camus. Currently, "High Fidelity" still speaks to me the most since I manage a new/used record store specializing in jazz/soul and can relate to Rob/Barry/Dick in the book and the tough time to keep relationships and intimacy afloat when you own a huge and awesome record collection and put music first and foremost before anyone or anything in your personal life.... I know. I'm pathetic but content. I can't say what the future holds for me but I thank the personal banter of new friends like Laura Llew and others sinister listees that have eased the pain and thanx for the music of Belle and Sebastian for giving me hope for the future and the songs of Nick Drake for allowing me to drown in the sadness and savor it while I can. So, my wait is over. Got to interview Pär and Kristina from The Wannadies two days ago. For f€€€s sake, how can people who are BIG rockgods for me be so incredibly nice. Really. I've always thought that when you meet your biggest ever idols they would turn out to be assholes. But: KABOOM!!! KABOOM!!! CHUNCK!!! CHUCK!!! KABOOOOOOM!!! SNAP!!! Thats what my heartbeat sounded like when I shook hands with them. But they were so sweet and lovely and wonderful when I told them that it was my second ever interview (the first one was with TheDuplo!, this finnish band, but I know them guys so thats a bit different), they just smiled and said that they'll try to be gentle with me. 20 minutes of ecstasy for me (nope, not that, I'm afraid, I only smoke L&M lights). YOU FU€€€NG BITCH!!! Sorry, had to say that. I don't know how many of you remember this woman I've told about here at our very nice office. The queen of bitches. She just came in. I said "Good morning!" she didn't say anything. She went to the Xerox-machine. Yelled at me because it wasn't on. What a nice way to start your day. UN I read from a newspaper this morning that the United Nations doesn't approve to terrorism. Erm... Who does???? But good for you, UN! But that's not a proper story. I'd find it nice if even for once they'd stop being such big crybabies about violence and international terrorism and slaughtering of innocent people. Gentle Waves... when i first heard it i though that it was quite weak and insipid... but now its kind of grown on me, and weak and insipid has turned to sweet and innocent.. the songs are short and the voice is soft... and the lyrics are quite poeticly lovely too. However i still skip 'tree lullaby', as i find it a bit to tacky and tree hugging... not bad for a first attempt though i still think B&S work better as a team...
