last evening i seem to have sent this to lucy alder. i don't know why. she probably thinks theres something wrong with me for having singled her out.... any way, its for all 1000 or so of you. enjoy i havn't put my 2 cents in for a while. i've fallen under the spell of various dairy products lately. i've been making nearly daily trips to the cheese shop in kensington of late and its taking a toll on my wallet. however, i must say my relationship to various femented milk products is almost as good and wonderful as most of the actual people i've carried on with (well not really, but its still marvelous). i got this french cheese the other day with a little line of blue/green mold in the middle that put me right over the moon. i forget its name at the moment but when i remember i recomend that everyone go off and buy an entire wheel of the stuff then lock yourself up in your room and lie in bed with a box of crackers and enjoy its milky goodness. and to the vegans of the list who are no doubt tut tut-ing away (no doubt contemplating sending me another 'milk is slavery' post) i have only this to say: to make an omlette you must break a few eggs. Sinister: folksongs for the afterlife...

hello everyone ... i've been listening to a really amazing band the last few days ...they are called "folksongs for the afterlife" ...it sounds like a cross between Heidi Berry ...& Low ...a little bit of Cowboy Junkies thrown in with some trip-hoppish kind of beats ...i can't stop listening to it...can anybody shed any light? ...i can't believe this band can just all of a sudden appear out of nowhere! i believe they are from America. its out on Enraptured Records on the 8th of November ...er...which is a coincidence as the band i'm in has a single out on the same day! we are called Elixir ...(sorry for this shameless plug ...)singles called Good Cop/Bad Cop ...its limited to 500 & its out on a label called Altered Vibes ...& its a slamming dance floor filler ( well thats what the press release is saying!)... a tribute to all those cheesy 70's cop films and tv series... buy it & i'll be your best friend! don't buy it ...well i'll be your friend anyway...but you should definately check out " folksongs for the afterlife"... to be honest Enraptured Records and its twin label Endorphin Records ...have been putting out some fantastic records lately ...Endorphin is a bit experimental ...& my other band Phobos 3 had a single out with them earlier in the year ...their only English band so far ...i think our willingness to do it for a box of free records came heavily into play! all the rest Acceleredeck ...Flowchart ...Pacifica ...have been American...the Acceleredeck album "Narcotic Beats" ...is well worth checking out ... lo-fi drum&bass at its best! oh god ...i detect a distinct lack of B&S content ...,too late now...er ...sorry and it won't happen again... take care kids.... push. x +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". All, I can die now. In the same weekend, I bought vynil of the following albums: Nick Drake-- Bryter Layter (very very very rare), B&S-- Tigermilk, and B&S-- Boy With the Arab Strap. I'm new to the world of records, but this is kind of fun and unique... I would also like to thank the person who sent me some nice B&S bootlegs, especially the Black Sessions. She will be receiving a dub as soon as I can get it done, as will all the others with whom I've promised or traded. Sorry I'm so slow... Could I get some opinions on this matter... Which band is better: The Flaming Lips or Pavement? I prefer bands that are musically profound; I'd really appreciate opinions on this subject because I'm learning as I grow. And I will never forgot the evening when Danny (go on, you remember. The midget one who did the big mural and got killed by Mr Bronson) walked in to my local and my friend James, several pints worse for wear, rushed up to him and screamed; "LOOK, WHY CAN'T YOU JUST LEAVE ME ALONE" into his face. *Extremely* childish granted but far and away the best bit of (minor) celebrity baiting I've ever had the priviledge to witness. Aaah, happy days. >i think i'll just go back to dancing with girls and leave it at that. At least they know where to put it. Sinister: My mind will be made up for me...baby's waiting for me there

I followed the unbelievably amazing Superdrag during their last three stops of their East Coast tour and I was blown away (both methaphorically and sonically). If any of you either haven't checked them out before or if you've written them off after "Sucked Out" was played to death on MTV a few years back, I can't urge you enough to track down either of their Elektra records, Regretfully Yours, or Head Trip In Every Key. Dare I say they are our generation's Beatles? Yes, I dare. Ahhh...sadly I saw the most incredibly beautiful girl at the Baltimore stop on their tour but I hadn't the nerve to approach her. She was standing at stage left, a short pixie-ish girl with more than a passing resemblance to a slimmer, dark haired Isobel, miming the words to pure pop perfection and occassionally smiling at the girl standing next to her (now I know Isobel isn't the most liked person on this list, but dammit I fell in love you didn't so don't play that game). It was like that scene in Wayne's World where the room turns glittery and Dreamweaver starts playing, only thankfully the club soundman refrained from crushing my sanity. I pointed her out to my friend who said I should just go talk to her, but she was with some nerd so I said I'd wait until he left, which unfortunately turned out to be at the end of the show. In hindsight I should have caught up to her before she left the club but what can I do now? The show was fricking amazing and I got to hang out with the band afterwards but all I keep thinking about was how bad I wished I had any guts whatsoever. There's this line in this book called Cold Mountain where one character says to another "You know you really don't need her, you just want her" and the guy says back "The only thing I know is that I don't want to wake up tommorrow wishing I had more nerve tonight." Evidently that one went right over my head. Anyway, like I said I never said anything and she didnt go to the show in Delaware the next night so unfortunately my chance at eternal happiness was pissed away yet again. If anyone on this list has the foggiest notion of who I'm speaking of, for all that is holy and pure I hope you'll mail me with the 411. Maybe I'll see her at another show really soon, and maybe I'll actually say something. One of these days I'll learn... good morning my dearest sinisterees, i hope you all had a good weekend. ok first off i just have to ask, didnt the people in love and other catastophies have english accents? even though it is australian i swear those were not australian accents! please somebody enlighten me. it has been driving me absolutely crazy... i saw american beauty this weekend, oh my gosh it was sooo f-ing good! everyone must go out and see it. i think it was the best movie i have been to see in a long time. also i saw that the movie boys don't cry got excellent reviews and it is now my goal to see it this week. and the added bonus is that is has the lovely *chloe sevigny* in it. she is just so gosh darn cute... ok just to let everyone know, i am talking to jygsaw dave and i can assure you all he is still alive, even though i thought he'd been kidnapped or gone into sinister hiding... my friend from delaware came to visit me this weekend. and we were in his car and he has always been known for liking quality music, so he put in a tape and told me i would love the band. i said i dont know, the name is sort of weird , it doenst sound like anything i would like, but sure enough he popped in the tape and i was taken aback at the beauty and in awe of this band that are called godspeed you black emperor. it is my goal to buy their stuff today, as well as get a catpower album. i absloltely adore catpower, i have been listeing to her more than anything else lately...there is a halloween paty in nj this saturday, with rad bands playing, if any of you lovely sinister boy and girls want to go email me and i will give you info..i finally decided what i will be for halloween. it occured to me that i already have the perfect costume. i have my princess prom dress!! it is so beuatiful, it look like cinderella's ball gown only it is lavender. i had been wanting to wear it again, but where would i wear a formal gown? well duh, on halloween of course, with fairy wings and a wand. i even have matching lavender shoes and a tiny lavender hangbag. oh it will be grand. i could have used the dress to be a princess instead of a fairy, but nooo i couldnt find one boy to be my prince. i mean really, they should be honored to be my prince but god forbid any of the stupid boys actually dress up and look dashing. no its just easier for them to just throw on some dirty clothes that picked up off the floor, and comb back their dirty hair and throw on a hat and sweatshirt. hmmf. how awful...ok darling i must go. i love you all. xoxo, lauren +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". Hello everyone on Sinister, I'm allowed to post now! My name's Jen, I'm 14, and I'm a fluffy owl. Ok, I'm not an owl but I'm fluffy. Metaphorically anyway. I found out how to join this list without all the bad problems I was getting because I'm stupid with computers, from a very nice person at a Hefner/Micheal Shelley gig who had a homemade Tigermilk tee shirt. Also Chris and Stevie from B&S were there. I really like belle and sebastian a lot, they're the best band in the world, and I don't know anyone else who's heard of them, except all my friends who like Steps and shouted at me a lot when they got that Brit thingy. Oh and my brother who says Stuart M is a poof and sings like a lassie. I don't like my brother much though. Hello to everyone on this list and I'll stop saying boring things now.
