Dear Fun-loving criminals, Oh, you do make me laugh. These past few days of mass hysteria have had me rolling in the aisles at times. I have no comment to make other than that anyone who feels the need to apologise to Momus (who, after all, has never apologised to us for being a creepy little pervert) has no dignity whatsover. Also to tell you that SOS is in fact two lists, one for me and one for everyone else. I snear at all the crap posts and poke fun of oppressed minorities. I'm a twisted ball of bitterness, high on my own rampant ego. What's more I eat babies. That's the sort of twaddle that makes conspiracy theorists feel the delicious thrill of victimisation and I'd hate to disappoint them. You want the truth? You can't handle the truth. Actually, Trousers and Nick said it all already so let's talk about something less controversial, shall we? Francoise Hardy, eh? Lovely, lovely Francoise. What records to buy? Anything from 1962 to 1972, especially the late sixties stuff. And there's a Jacques Dutronc double CD called "Completement Dutronc", which is well worth shelling out for, cos about 3/4 of it is ace. The Wumpster just bought a UK girl singers compilation called "The Girl's Scene", which is pretty damn fantastic too. Once you've heard "You just gotta know my mind" by Dana Gillespie, you will never need you will want to grab the nearest person and make sweet sweet love with them. That's the effect it had on me anyway. I knew I shouldn't have taken my walkman to Asda's. Hohohoho. Have any of you visited the Roolz webpage? What can I say? It's a labour of love, and rightly so. I'm not flattered, because it's no less than we deserve. Finally, my new favourite joke, courtesy of Wardie: A teacher asks her class to use the word "contagious". Roland, the class swot, jumps up and says, "Last year I got the measles and mum said it was very contagious." Then Katie, a sweet little girl with pigtails, jumps up and says, "My grandma says there's a flu going round, and it's contagious." Finally, little Johnny jumps up and shouts, "Our next door neighbour's painting his house with a two-inch brush and my dad says it will take the contagious." If it's not hurting, it's not working, Susannah. I don't know what 'giving in your notice' really means. It's a stupid phrase. Maybe it dates from a time when all workers were chained to posts, with signs saying 'You don't have to be worthless scum to work here - but it helps!' affixed to their backs. To 'give in your notice' quite literally entailed casting off your shackles and handing in this crap notice to your supervisor. There's a great 'Sienfeld' episode in which George decides to quit his job, storms into his boss's office and tells him just what he thinks of him. He feels very proud of himself and tells Jerry all about it that evening. But then he realises that he has no skills or prospects at all and needs his job back. So he just turns up for work on Monday morning and acts like nothing ever happened. Maybe Seb will do this. No one has shown the remotest interest in amending those lyrics I posted. There's been a lot of shouting here recently, and it's been hurting my ears, but like my mum used to say, "if you just ignore them , they'll go away." There's a boy standing on the bench over by the music room, who's turning his eyelids inside out, and making people look, but really I'm not interested. I don't have anything against anyone here, and I think Honey has a difficult job and does it well, but everyone has the opportunity to mail privately, and if Honey wants people's opinions I think he should do this instead of chalking out lines between us. I met FunkySeb briefly at the Bowlie, and he is a lovely chap (as were the rest of you), who looked a bit like Doctor Who. It's a shame he feels he has to leave, and I can understand why, but I'm just going to hold out. It's up to us to make the list good, not other people. Sorry for going on a bit. Now for some Belle and Sebastian related stuff: Someone mentioned that B + S might be playing the Greenbelt festival. If they do I'd recommend people go. I went to Greenbelt a few years ago and it was great fun. I spoke to lots of ace people, including a man with different coloured eyes, a boy who we think was a spy, a sad epileptic boy who was standing outside one of the tents because he couldn't watch the film inside with his friends, and a clown. I'm not a christian and that aspect didn't really bother me. I just enjoyed seeing all these different, exotic people. It's alcohol free, which I thought was quite refreshing, but if you really can't cope they do sell cointreau filled pancakes. Sports biscuits? How about the Club?
