Hi, I am lowly John M. from Indy and I here by humbly request the assistance of any UK inhabitor. i read on the NME about the bowlie broadcast tonight on Radio 1, and I was wondering if someone could send me a copy? I have a few tapes to trade if anyones interestedf (no B&S, but others) This would be very nice if someone has recorded it, for I'm afraid the chance of anything like this EVER happening on US radio are about as good as a donkey's chances of being hired as an Empire State Building elevator attendant. Sinister: The Saddest Song

The music is sadder now... In a sinister note on today's newspaper, I found out about the death of Mark Sandman, one of the most creative musicians that I ever heard, along with his band Morphine. He had a heart attack on stage, dying few hours later, in the ambulance. This happened in Rome, the day before yesterday, right after midnight. And now, when we brazilians could finally see them performing alive in our country, in this year's Free Jazz Festival. Well... it looks like even fate wants to mess up with our provincial dreams. I'm sorry if this sound selfish of me but it's the way I feel. The music is sadder now... This is the saddest song. hmm. harvard sq., gibby, sir miller? so, if i just sorta got back together with a bf from 5 years ago, and he lives real far away, and stuff... and last nite and ex-bf from longer than that and I had a slumber. do I have to tell the other one. 'cause i would, but what protocol is there for going to glasto with a bloke you used to live with 5 years ago and sort of are still seeing but not really 'cause he's 3500 miles away but have made plans in the next two months, and he's chucked the other girls out of his tent, and prior told me about them anyway. and his theater company is getting a winnebgo or something and his director already invited me to come on board when the company goes to do el festival performances next round. but his ex-gf after me went round to have a i'm upset with you visit the other day, and he didn't say anything, so I don't think anything happened... but. osk. and he and another friend had a go at one another for the boy not being nice enought o me, and the other being told to mind his own. and if yer in london and go see de la guarda 'cause if it does real well he get more money and then can come here sooner. ok, quasi b&s content. i met these boys who work at the local bookshop the other day and they're on the list, and they're goin to looper too. are we planning a meet up? and when are the record bags coming in? oh, and did I tell you all about popstar personals? we're gunna have a personals site for pop kids. sorta like the back of select on-line. plus, my computer just got fixed, as in, they took everything inside of it out and put everything new in - sorta defeats the purpose me thinks. -teri, girl with the f. perry dress p.s. emily emily, sigh. this girl's done it again haven't I? osk, baby branson crying. he's learnt to open very tightly closed doors. very bad boy. but he sends love to edward. http://come.to/teri "The day didn't go too well. Sinister: dangerous picnics, random gig, & bowlie 2.

hello sinister types (and advanced apologies for some/all of this being of limited interest to....well lots of bods.....anyway away with such deprecating and on with my 2nd post this year.....) big stylee shouts out to all london picniccers i met / didn't really meet / accidentally kicked whilst playing footie.....and no it wasn't me (or anyone?) that got miss vicky, but i can most certainly vouch for worthiness of F'd up ankle to merit a day off work, and cunningness of said ankle in its attempt to camouflage itself by turning the same blue colour as v's toenail varnish. err yeah. anyway. as mentioned to various piccerniccers, a band i like / now know & do mailing list for - Slot Jockey - play at Water Rats, Greys Inn Road, Kings X (London) on Wednesday (7/7/99). I introduced Gareth of SJ to a few Sinister people at Bowlie who also seemed vaguely interested (not B&S related musically they're i guess not light years from pavement-y kind of stuff....strong songs i think etc etc & some of band *are* B&S fans...) Gareth is also a lovely bod and a studio engineer/producer who apparently is very good to work with - he redid the Beta Band Total Eclipse of the heart track with them in the studio, but then they got permission so guess that was a bit of a waste of time. but i don't suppose he needs me harping on about him. and er yeah neither do you. sorry. [so hopefully not really a random plug] they're the middle band (9.30pm) with Miss Mend headlining, Gertrude on before. Slot Jockey also headlined a trip to / event in Prague i organised in March, along with DJ Downfall and assorted others (the latter is currently touring as his alter ego drumming for Marine Research in the US until 21st July as no doubt you've probably been informed) errr which kind of brings me to apologize for the truth of my mantra at pic-nics that i never get time to read the list much (and so rarely know what is going on properly in sinister land....) i'm doing better but limited net access after/at work does make things tricky.... The Prague thing was amazing fun and may or may not happen again depending on my stamina/stupidity at taking on things like that, and amount of help i get doing it. I stupidly didn't mention it on the list for fear of abusing the medium, (or more reasonably inviting any of you lot along for what was in the event, fantastic fun) , but if it did happen again i'd love to rope in the sinister community into getting involved.......more on that to follow hopefully. Looks like the almost tournament winning sinister 5-a-side team may be reuniting in a pretty full way for All Tomorrow's Parties.......thanks to Martin & Vince, Damon & i are now definitely coming assuming we can get time off work, so now we just have to weedle our way in again. i maintain i'm better out of goal than in, but i suppose somebodys got to do it so i'll buy some gloves that fit anyway. and if anybody ever hears of the bowlie goalie who lost/lent me his knackered pair (clue, big smelly hands) i still have them. erk well i think thats quite enough. So see y'all soon / @ ATPs / in the next life. jim P.S, That Tim Hopkins lookalike i saw at Bowlie was spotted in the Pub after the Al Green gig last week - even has the same encyclopaedic knowledge of Dub which proved a bonding tool after said being almost offended a friend of mine (another prague performer (Dub DJ)) by announcing there were a hundred southern?/soul singers better than Otis Redding....all turned out well in the end. You're dead on there... I have this reoccuring dream about a girl that im sure i've met before (but not quite) , and it's very vivid... and when i wake from it i have this feeling in my stomach, this really hardcore loving feeling that I have NEVER felt with another person.. (well maybe one).. so I know Im capable of it. If I met a person that made me feel like that. wow. (Is this pathetic... im in love with my imagination) I like the way you describe getting over someone, realizing they're not what you had hoped.. the fragmented sleep hahah... i know it too well. Sinister: pernice brothers

JJ asked about the Pernice Brothers... Well, they're ex-members of The Scud Mountain Boys from, erm, somewhere in the mid-West, I forget where. Anyway, their album 'Overcome By Happiness' was a surprise treat last year, sounding like a gentler, wearier Teenage Fanclub. There's lots of strings, harmonies and brass on there - give it a try. Excitingly enough, I won my copy on the much-missed Keith Cameron show on XFM. Speaking of radio, any South African sinisterines (there must be some) can hear yours truly live on South African radio this Thursday night for reasons that are far too conovoluted to go into. Hey, I've got the week off. Wonder if my copy of 'Tigermilk' will arrive then I can spend all day listening to it. Basically I tuned into MTV to see **an hour** of Belle & Sebastian stuff, including the film (which I didn't know wasn't going to be on cos I was at Glastonbury when the mail came through about it). I didn't expect 50 minutes and then a couple of seemingly random vids. As it happens I also like PE (not physical education), in fact in my youth I had a T-Shirt with "Enemy" on the front and a big target thing on the back, and it was a nice jolt from one to the other. But we can see these vids at other times, couldn't they have put another bit of Bowlie in, he asks rhetorically, as though he was on "Points of View". My video of the show does contain the whole hour so if anyone wants a copy please mail privately, although they might have to wait a bit cos I'm useless at sending things out (and I'm not sure how to copy videos) (I also have the Bowlie doc off Radio 1 if anyone hasn't heard it who wants to). In other news Hefner were good the other night, but Billy Mahonie who supported were possibly IMHO better if you like instrumentally-post-rocky-yet still with tunes-y kinda stuff, which I didn't but now I do. Aren't we all glad that the people who interpret Nostradamus were wrong and the world didn't end yesterday, I know I am. A scary man in a Cradle of Filth T-shirt asked me to be in his band on Saturday night and I was almost too scared to say no, I just kind of ummed and ahhed until he went away. Ooh hurray another Tigermilking in August.
