hi there list. i am suddenly intimidated by the thought that this message is going to 1200+ people whether or not they read it. friday i leave for ottawa. this is less than 48 hours. i am alternating between dread and excitment. dread of how i will react when i see my b/f and excitment that i might find some good fabric shops and that i will have loads of time to get my massive quantities of school work done. right now my brain has shut down for the night so i am indifferent to the whole voyage. at least i have a new travel partner. alphonse is very excited. i feel like i live in many worlds. this lovely sinisterland in my computer. my friends. my school. my family. my work. i wish i could meld (this may or may not be a word) them all into one. or pick one and leave the rest behind. or take off and start a new one. i don't think that i m the same person in all these worlds. i wonder which one is the real me? it's funny to think...it's funny i am so tired i have completely lost my train of thought. lucky for you all. i don't think it was going anywhere anyway. i will miss you all while i'm away. no e-mail access in ottawa :( wish me luck! -di he who hates is to be pitied, but he who loves is to be pitied more -german proverb +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. Sinister: no b & s; cranes in london

I'm not sure if anyone on this list is a fan of the Cranes, but I'd figure I'd write as I've got an extra ticket to the Cranes concert at The Garage, in London for this Saturday, Feb 26th. Sinister: football training...no muddy boots thank you

if i'm going to be in charge of the sinister football team, let's make one thing clear. i do not tolerate...only having 2 (and a half) players!!! so far we've got steve c in doing a magnificent holding job in midfield, mark 'I've got just the right sort of spunk to penetrate even the tightest boxes (!)' casarotto err, scoring the goals, and umm, me on the right wing until someone who can actually run applies...so c'mon, whatcha waiting for? you're guaranteed a game... <rachel is having flashbacks to the weeks before the start of this season where oxford united had a squad of 12 - including a couple of cripples - to start the promotion (oh the ironic optimism) push with...surely us sinister kids can cobble together a better team than the mighty yellows...please???> ...and i'll bribe you with a colouring competition to decide the strip (but please, not red), my supermarket (the real life one) is doing two for one on packets of mars ice cream bars!! it's not really winter... imagine, 8 mars ice creams for £1.99...or for free if you design the nicest shirt/shorts/socks combo, come on you know you want to.... i witnessed a colleague (god i hate that word, but i'm not calling helen a friend cos she's a bit of a bitch and NEVER lends cigarettes) walk out of her job today. it was wicked...i think she watched QAF2 last night (wasn't it ace? tho, yeah the ending was a bit weak)...she stormed into the cash office, ripped down her eddie irvine (yuk) posters, walks out of the warehouse with everyone nervously following her, stands at the front of the shop and cuts up her staff discount card, turns on one heel while giving the one fingered salute and leaves. wow. it was magnificent. i wish i could do that. i wish i wasn't miss reliable, who'll probably never ever leave. i know i don't do much, but i'm always there. i would love to just go, in a blaze of glory. i nearly did once, but only because of a highly charged and frankly hilarious argument with my ex boss about the warehouse door and a jar of tomato juice...we ended up in the pub. so much for my resignation... i had other stuff to say. i really shouldn't start these posts so late, i can never remember what i wanted to write about. hmmm. okay, just time wasting now <overdue stuff to do: 7 essays to write, 1 piece of coursework to do, 2 shakespeare plays to read. 4 days of half term left. bollocks. yet again i have resorted to sophisticated evasion techniques (i.e more sophisticated than staying in bed all day). tomorrow, definitely> nothing to say, so lovin' and leavin' you rachel xxx +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. hello again, list. its been a while, no? i've been watching you all. i've been peering in your windows with my high-powered binoculars and rifling through your trash. i've been storing up information on you all in my animal-trap-like brain. and now its time for me to show my face once more. so i get the all-important job of Sinister Village Record Store Proprietor. i'm so honored! i guess my time in indie-record-shop-land was well spent, after all. i know several people i'd like to have as employees.. i'll send you all job descriptions, and you can send me your resumes. i plan on having huge sections devoted to Sexy Singers, German Drinking Music, and People Who Smash Instruments. and in-store appearances by all of our favorite popidols. just to feel the vinyl again... the "clickclick" of people sifting through CDs... oh yes. indeed. you all are a wordy bunch, and frankly, i like it. you make me laugh, you make me cringe. that's the sign of a good community, and its refreshing to see not much has changed. we can't expect all 12xx of us to feel/think/live the same, now can we? isn't there some trite verse about variety? feel the love, people. how long can a "return to sinister" post be? just about this long.... this world makes no sense, christa +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. Hey fancy-pants, After almost two years of skulking about the shadows of sinister, I have decided to throw off my cape and expose my haggard and pale face to the light. A wee lass of 14 when I first stumbled upon our big-bottomed hussies of indie-pop, and without a musical subculture to latch onto at the time, it was not long before I was lieing despondently on my bedroom floor crying bitter tears of twee alienation to the dulcet strains of 'Fox in the Snow'. 'Twas a teenage bedroom headphone salvation if there ever was one. I live in a town so small there's no escape from view, here in the heart of rural Michigan. There's an extraordinary number of Korn T-shirts per square mile, so I live pretty much in an isolated coccoon of popsongs, dirty dreams and shyety (lovely word, Grace). Gay sex. I'm all for it. Wore the tape down playing that scene from 'Maurice' when Maurice strokes Hugh Grant's hair and they're all atremble, every breath is audible and they lean in for a tremulous, glorious kiss. My blood pumps furiously through my head every time. Technically it's not sex, but my repressed self, for some reason I keep trying and failing to puzzle out, is best aroused by forbidden encounters between English schoolboys. Anyone else the same way? Brevity seems like a judicious tactic for a first post, so saucily yours, Priscilla, who will now vanish like a gambler's lucky streak for another two years P.S. i'd like to say hello to all of you. Dear chickens, time to write!! The Sinister Village, eh? When I was at college, my friends and I were really really fucking bored one day. And we made up our ideal world, based in Da Church Street area of Preston, and it was fucking fun. Does it work on a more international level? If anyone cared, I ran Action Records, except I would rename it something BETTER like..."Arse Muscle Damage Nappies Beatz International" - and I supplied the music for my friends resturant and my other friend Gavins nightclub. Called "Gavinos". My friend Lucy would run a Welly Making Factory, and an ice-cream van, and I can't remember what everyone else did. We even made a map! Then we went for an egg mayonnaise buttie from Tescos. They're the best! We didn't have any riot grrl shops, oh oh, though I did own a junk/old clothes shop, and a 2nd bookshop...oh and also a basement where there was lots of free jazz and you couldn't enter unless you were wearing a black polo neck like KEITH WATSON, or some other BIG POOF.* Etchings! On "You've got my number - WHY DON'T YOU USE IT", by the Undertones, "Derry - the Home of Punk Rock" is etched on the little...bit which is un-grooved. And whats the legend behind "Porky Prime Cuts"? Someone told me once that there was a story behind those etchings but I can't quite remember it. Damn I'm going to have to check this out when I get home. Incidentally, the best two 7"s I bought a few days ago, were the Fall doing a cover of THERES A GHOST IN MY HOUSE, and a beautiful song by Velocette. And the best mid-90s dance CD that I bought was "Sunshine" by "Berri". It does not SUCK ASS. How interesting to hear tompaulin are playing in Manchester land this week. I meant to see them on Saturday, but decided to go antiques shopping instead. I nearly bought a dog on wheels but it was 18 pounds!! 18!! So on a matter of principle, (no money), I left the dog behind. Who wants a fucking twee fucking MOUNOSKYLO on wheels anyway. Bah. Either way, I will be in Manchester land this Saturday, so theres another chance to miss them. Hurrah! Last time I looked everyone was complimenting each other round here. That aint my style. Fuck off!! Oh dear. Thats one less potential boyfriend. Perhaps one day I'll sweeten up. Its a shame to realise no-one else is full of hate and quite likes other people, innit? Oh well. The other day I tried to join Bob the Builder's club, but I was cut off in the middle of the registering process, and now every time I try to do it, it says I'm already registered, but I haven't got my special Bob the Builder password yet, so I can't be registered.
