Sinister: re Jarkko's letter: who doesn't feel sick?

This lpost may seem rather old now, but I've only just got around to reading the Sinister messages from the 10th onwards.... I'm quite shaken up by Jarkko's letter regarding WBC. I meant, I know that highly predudices regigious sects exist all over the world, but to publish what amounts to a modern day Klu Klux Clan site in a public domain makes you really think hard about how much you value free speach. I find the hole history of free speach quite remarkable; in the past, it has always been the fight of talented writers with insight and courage battling against predudiced religious authorities to get their works published and their ideas known, from Galilleo to Henry Miller. But now that an acceptable amount of free speach is the norm for most people in most western countries (although far to many people are denied even this basic right), it seems to be abused by a minority of individuals and organisations, most of whom are religious. The whole national identity/national front thing in England, encouraged by Enoch Powell, was (and still is) a way of hiding gross racism behind a mask of religion. I'm really sorry about this, but I feel utterly sick, and as much as I love yr twee posts almost as much as much as I love ice cream, today will be dominated by the kind of self loathing that always settles in when I realise that I'm far too privledged in life. I have very little understanding of what makes a person straight or gay. I think its something to do with the way the brain develops in early pregnancy. In the first month or so of a human foetus, a single layer of cells develops and divides. Trought differentiation and migration, the brain develops. At this stage, many personality traites are formed, such as the predominate handedness, things like dyslexia, and yr inclinations over guys or girls. The things affecting this development include the balence of chemicals such as eostrogen in the mother at the time, amoungst other thngs. As far as I can make out, this process is just as 'natural' for straight or gay people. If someone wants to insist that God gives life, then they also have to admit that God makes people Gay, contrary to one of his commands... mind you, he also creates people who, due to real lack of sensitivity to certain emotional stimuli, we term psychopaths... he creates people with a tendency to kill, then judges them with hellfire or whatever? Seems bullshit to me, even assuming God exists. Sorry to go on, once again... but I'm curious, can any of this bullshit reasonably be reasoned? I don't know much about biology or neurology - I'm a philosophy student - but I do have an interest inb whether ideas which seem ridiculous can be argued for. I can't imagine any possible way in which such blatent biggotry could be defended, and I'd really love to meat someone who thinks otherwise... preferably down a dark alleyway, armed with a baseball bat and a healthy set of emotions.... Has anyone read to here? hahaha, thought not. Girls and Boys: Ooh!!!! Dear, Tomorrow is the...is the... is the "Day" that dare not speak its name Now, I'm alone. I'm a lonely soul. B n S should write a song about me. I ven't heard the album of Looper, only a song or two i guess. But, I do think Gentle Wave is better.... Today is the 3rd day i kept the IanBrown-like hairdo in my head. funny. I am still writing the script for my final year project, a 20 mins short fiction film. I am too sleepy, I O.D. last night. But what I take is not E, I take "White Heat/White Light" by Velvet Undergrounds. It is amazing. I discover the power of the noise at the end at a Suede gig. They use the record to make some sound before they play. I found that if u play it to the maximum volume.. it goes crazzzzzzy.... Sinister: Happy Sinister Mothering Sunday

Hi All, Don't worry, not quite so Disgusted of Royal Tunbridge Wells today. I just thought that the passing of one of the original 4 boys in their corduroys deserved to be marked with a little more comment, no matter how long ago predicted nor how logical. Besides, I always liked the idea the idea of a band with a recurrent lyrical theme about the misunderstood & the misfits in society having a member who was a little bit different & apart. Knocking up beans on toast with Wee Karn in their Camber Sands chalet, rather than having the Meals On Wheels delivered on Mini-Me's motorbike. Anyway, today the sun is shining, the cat is purring, the snowdrops are out in the garden, the fluffy bunnies are frolicking on the lawn again & I've had a nice big poo. As today is Sinister's Mothering Sunday please make sure you all go to church like good children to receive a nice bunch of violets to take home to your Mummy, & when you present her with her posy don't forget to give her a hug & tell her how much you love her, & say sorry for all the bad things you've done to her over the last year. As the subject line implies, today the final Peanuts comic ever will run in the Sunday papers. Personally, I think the strip's heyday was a very years back, but its still a total bummer to know that no more new comics will ever be produced. The papers will continue to run "Classic Peanuts" until Charles Schultz's death, whereupon the entire strip will be discontinued. There was an hour-long special on the telly last night recounting Peanuts' finest moments, including some really hilarious footage from the rarer episodes, like the brilliant Thanksgiving episode that no one seems to have seen. Sinister: maybe the y2k's gonna bring the rain....

the clouds hang over the sinister sands. the beach is quiet. it is dusk, and any tourists hardy enough to brave the winds have long retired to their petrol-pumping shelters and hurried off to a different world. the breeze has dropped now, although a thin film of rain hangs in the air, stinging our faces as the waves lap over our trainers. not a good day to be wearing corduroy. before us, a trail of footprints. they lead out of the water and up towards the dunes, where they recede into the darkness that is starting to thicken around us. you take my hand and we follow them. why not? following the trail is easy, and its comforting to know we're not alone. for a while, neither of us speaks. your shoes make a squelching sound as the water seeps out of them, back into the sand. the noise of the seagulls has ceased. they are watching us silently, pondering the strange habits of humans. perhaps they are waiting for us to die, so they can swoop down and peck at our eyes... but dying is for tomorrow. today, you and me are alive, and as the palm of my hand gently caresses yours you begin to hum, almost imperceptibly. it takes a couple of seconds, but i recognise the tune, and i start to sing along, hesitantly at first but growing more sure of myself. "she's very quiet, and very small infact she's hardly there at all that's what she is and what she is and what she iiis....... a rotting rowboat lies abandoned on the sand. the wood cracks under our feet as we climb over the edge and sit ourselves where the seat used to be. the last of the sunlight is fading, it touches the clouds with the softest pink smile and we don't feel sad any more. looper...you take the moments of your life and you share them with me. and, in this way, i start to feel like i have lived them too. like the time we danced madly in the water while "the balad of ray suzuki" played from your cheap transistor, --- a bunch of loopers...damn right. i'm glad stuart david left the group, if it was a choice between that or there not being another looper album. i have no idea how it will affect the group dynamics, but it has been apparent for some time that the guy is branching out. perhaps b&s wasn't quite big enough to hold him any more. i love my twattybus album as much as any of the b&s recordings, but it seemed not to fit together as well as the others. the song that seems most out of place is "space boy dream". a lovely story, it always brings a smile to my face, and the way it flows into "dirty dream number 2" is fantastic, but i don't feel it fits with the general mood. even the glam sounds and muffled vocals of "electronic rennaissance", rather at odds with the rest of tigermilk, seem....right..... somehow. space boy dream seems like it should have been on an e.p. somewhere. or on a different album. perhaps it just doesn't sound like a b&s song. okay, maybe a group should aim for diversity. but i don't think the stu d style and the stu m style was fitting together quite as well as it might have done. if, as he says, he has left the group amicably, i'm glad. at least this way he'll still be recording with them from time to time. i'd hate this band to have one of those unpleasant-split scenarios. it seems beneath them. stu d seems to have been waiting for a change. the whole theme of "who's afraid of y2k" was "maybe everything will be allright soon. maybe....perhaps.. the world will change and none of us will really have to try to make it happen". and when it didn't? maybe he looked to himself for that change. the looper album isn't the cleverest musical work i've ever heard. the lyrics aren't knowing, sarcastic or particularly witty. the spoken word format can seem a little cloying at times. despite all this, i love it. perhaps because of all this. it came from someone's heart, a few moments were snatched as they passed and someone was good enough to share them with me. i'm grateful for that. i hope this doesn't change b&s too much. i'd like them to stay subtle as the wind is grey. perhaps they'll grow through it. guess we'll have to wait and see. the sun has set. i pull my coat a little closer around myself. the wind has returned, and it drives the rain into my flesh, biting my skin. i touch the spot where you sat, and imagine i can still feel your warmth on the wood. my fingers are numb and my head is starting to ache. i can't help wondering where you went. ian +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. Sinister: She's got the radio-active!

Hi everyone, You know when you have an opinion about something and you're sure you're right, even though no-one in the world agrees with you? Well most of the music I like is reasonably cool (not that I like stuff just cos it's "cool" and not that I claim any credit for that cos it was my ex-boyfriend who got me to like anything except Green Day, not that there's anything wrong with that cos stuff like "Kerplunk" was class) but today I was listening to my old Sleeper tapes and, even though there were plenty of mediocre Sleeper songs, some of them are really pretty. I'm not sure I'm going to convince anyone with this argument - even the word "Sleeper" just makes you think of "Cast" and "Shed Seven". But "Smart" was a brilliant record and even recent songs like "Miss You" are very good. I just feel sorry for Louise Wener cos I do think she had a lot of talent and she's mostly remembered as being shit. Maybe I should write and tell her (Alexander?). Also Jen said about some ridiculous thing they had to do in RE, describing each other. This too makes me mad. Why do they make people do stuff like that at school? What do they think is going to happen? Don't worry, you're well cool ("and you know, you're a star, you'll go far.."). And it's all over with the boy I quite-liked-but-maybe-not-enough, leaving me free to daydream again! I have decided the way to go is being really good friends with someone, Holden and Jane style, and if anything happens it's cos it's right. Hello you swineherds I^Òm only allowed on the net at weekends, but I am allowed to compile posts during the week, which can only mean I will write things which have already been said and weren^Òt funny to start with. It also gives you, the reader, a glimpse into my sad and idle life. My plans today consist of going to Sainsbury^Òs to buy tinned tomatoes and to post some letters. Which is a lot more than I did yesterday, believe me. Are posts really like chocolate bars, Honey? Can I eat them instead of going the entire 2 minutes walk to the shop? Which posts are equivalent to chunky KitKats (the baroness of fattening snacks)? My spell check says I should write ^Ñchitchats^Ò not ^Ñkitkats^Ò. Chunky chitchats. Greig said, quite a long time ago now: ^ÓFrom what I can gather, the album's been finnished^Ô Is this like being polished? Am I being annoying? If you^Òre on a coach from Oxford to London ever, look out for a sign reading ^ÑPolish War Memorial^Ò I think most people however, didn^Òt immediately think of Pledge when they read it. The other day I was amazed to see B&S members on Real Rooms with Simon Biagi (BBC 1, weekdays, 11am). Stevie Jackson was having his living room done up. He was very impressed with the finished room; a multi-textural distressed paint effect using Sapphic lavender and classic beige accentuated with tastefully modern day-glo pink. The skirting board, architrave and panelling were beautifully decorated using a specially designed Petula Clark shaped stencil and gold leaf. The Care Bears accessories really helped too, especially the lampshade and waste bin. The team was assisted by Stevie^Òs friend Stuart ^Ñalways ready to lend a hand, especially where MDF is concerned^Ò Murdoch, and Stevie^Òs mum, Wobbly Mabel, who makes a great cuppa, apparently! I got back to find a summons for non-payment of council tax. If anyone wants to firebomb Haringey council as punishment for their sheer incompetence, please please do. Starry rang me up too, and has forced me to go to Greenwich market. That^Òs another day sitting around, watching TV, down the drain. Rachel Tucker, don^Òt you live in Oxford? If so, why don^Òt you ride trains to some of Oxfordshire^Òs beautiful little rural hamlets? Many of them do now have train stations, and some even have television. Mind you, it^Òs only BBC, none of these new channels like ITV. Big congratulations to Ailsa. Bit grown up, all this. Valentine^Òs Day. I will be doing my best to sleep through the whole sorry event. Hi there sinister-land... I'm so so sad... I got very sick yesterday and I had to stay in bed so I didn't manage to DJ after all... A Big Thank you to all of you that have requested songs and attributed to my DJ track list... I've written your requests down and I'll definatelly play them all when I'll be DJing next week... So... those of you who want to request a song, please do, since we have now loads of time... First of all... I loved Alexander's letter... it was so agressively moving... and... I'd like to thank the people who have given me my 3 votes and tell them I love them so much but I want to ask them to vote for someone else now - someone who have no votes at all - since those 3 votes made me happy and kept me warm inside quite too long now... I think it'd be rather selfish to keep them for myself...
