As Valentines Day is officially over, an ours is winding to a close, we wonder if we truly have something to say, but really does anyone have anything to say? I do, want to thank Ian for his incredibly poetic post entitled "Maybe Y2K will bring the rain." He captures through a keen story telling sense why we all love music, because it comes so close to home and shows us that it is fundamentally important to see and experience life through the eyes of others. (now that I am feeling appropriately ridiculous, here is Leyla--who bought me a flower for Valentines by the way) Leyla: Sarah wrote me a lovely card, with a picture of my boyfriend..er, Neil Codling in it..hehe. Yeah, right. Also, I got some lovey dovey chocholates... Today, alone..I think I've gained 20 pounds. dear me. Who voted for for list crush? come on, Come out of the closet..(hehe) Im sorry, don't be offended...just a joke...don't remove your vote..can't we just Snogg and makeup? Sarah is putting sticky candy on my desk..and I might just have to beat her up now....cept...I luv her. So I cant. Awwwwwwwwww..... fuck off! Sarah: OK, I just have to comment about those valentine's heart message candy, oh, so cute, but ick...they taste awful! Leyla was sweet enough to give me a lovely yellow candy heart with YOU ROCK printed on it and I tried to uphold to rules of etiquette but I'm sorry, I had to spit that out! It tasted terrible and all the sugary-ness can't make up for the indescribable flavor (Leyla says it tastes like cock, but I'm not so sure!) Leyla: EM OKAY!! We took pictures at a playground and speaking of king Monkey, I got a photo of Leyla on the monkey bars, which she is too tall for, so it made a humorous pose..the child who has outgrown her toys...I wanted to get her sitting on one of those metal spring animals that you flail around on, but unfortunately, this playground was lacking in the finer points of children's play equipment. Leyla has a webpage which we will be posting these pictures on if anyone is interested, I bet you she won't let you have the address though...being so coy and all... Leyla: Yes. There is nothing like laughing at images of a 6ft tall silly looking moppy haired girl flailing about on monkey bars to get you going. Hey, It may even be an ego booster: "Wow, at least I don't look as idiotic as that girl does..." If i can just brighten the life of one person... my job is done! :) Yes, maybe I will put pictures on the page, maybe not. ...it's me again. yes me, not cilla black. though i did try out my new improved scouse accent at work today (i've been studying the last couple of brookside omnibuses). it wasn't what you'd call a roaring success, partly because all my accents are appalling, but mainly because i hadn't noticed that my form tutor was in the queue...i think that i *may* have implied that the reason i hadn't been officially at school for months was because i had moved to liverpool, a fairly decent excuse i would say...i mean, how could i possibly turn up in time for registration if i'm commuting from the mersey to the thames everyday? admittedly the actual distance i have to travel is ooh, about 3 1/2 miles down one road, but he doesn't know that...i don't want people thinking i'm just lazy... mind you, they'd be right. i am a lazy cow. i promised faithfully that i would do some work today, i convinced myself completely and utterly...i truly believed...like tinkerbell&peter pan....and now i'm sat here telling myself that monday's not over yet, there's still plenty of time...i've lied to everyone in my house, on the phone and in the supermarket, they all think i have written the first draft of my english coursework...only you know the truth... i haven't even read the bloody book yet... so what the hell have i done instead??? well, let's see, ummm, i...got up....wandered round my room (yeah...1 1/2 steps forward, 2 across, took me a while), somehow kept myself occupied by seeing how many ways i could arrange my shoes in a line for...blimey, must have been a good hour or so...looked at my folder, realised i only had 3 sheets of paper so had to go buy some, loitered in the stationary shop for a bit...by that stage it was time for lunch and neighbours, went to work late cos decided a cigarette was more important, got home late cos a cigarette (or two, maybe three) was more important...watched crap telly, stared at the ceiling for a while...and now i am sat here. a whole day!!!! a whole fucking day!!! I need help with a debate. The motion is that teenagers are portrayed badly by the media, or that the media deplores teenagers, or something like that, and I am AGAINST it. Sometimes I wonder if I've built up a straw man when I set myself against this kind of absurd position, so it's nice to see there really are people who hold believe in it. Depressed = profound = worthwhile. Yeah, right. I don't actually deny that there are some artists whose mental illness and artistry are impossible to disentangle, but to over-extend from this and say that if art isn't doomy and/or epic then it's second-rate, well that's just bloody daft. And not everyone with depression wears it on their sleeve. I have a friend doesn't like them because there's 'too much singing'. Which is fair enough. Sorry to bring up WHO again, 60's WHO at that, but I experienced a musical epiphany the other day. I was listening to my radio walkman and 'My Generation' came on. Some pirate radio station with no respect for BBC local radio frequencies kept interfering with drum and bass and the whole thing was just CHAOS. But it was brilliant! It sounded three times as exciting that way, like Pete Townshend was trying to stop the tide of musical progress singlehandedly with his 'dow-now-dow-now-dow-now-dow-now' guitar. Or was that John Entwistle? Whatever. Not that I'm a luddite or anything. But it was a great scrap. After that, 'Venus in Furs' came on and that was good too. I recommend getting a crap FM radio and moving to Stoke Newington. I heard 'The State I am in' this way once too, but Stuart and his band of merrymen were really no match at all for North London's junglist massive. Perhaps I shouldn't have written 'junglist massive'. Po-faced 'Oh ho ho aren't these youth culture vernaculars a gas' remarks are so shit. I can just picture myself on some Radio 4 panel game. Know what you mean about the Morrissey thing, but in its defence I would say that joe brennan (who posts here under his 'cute' name of p f, or pinefox) writes the most spot-on description of why Morrissey lyrics are good even though in some ways they're shit that I have ever read. Talking of good reads, try searching for a book called 'Fine Art' on www.amazon.co.uk (not amazon.com) and see what the top recommendation is. Hello ratbags, Happy Valentines day Sinister, because I love you just as much as I hate your guts. May I first say how lovely it is, however breifly to hear from Archel. Valentines day, eh? What a load of PIFFLE. Having spent last saturday morning selling heart shaped chocolates and countless cheesy cards to people who look like they couldn't possibly be snogging ANYONE, I've decided the whole thing is a bunch of arse. This said, I do have a half eaten chocolate teddy bear lying disembodied next to me - he can't stand up anymore because I've eaten his toes. Poor thing, soon he'll just be a little red ribbon tied in a bow. He looks a bit like Alexander 'Dont Let Your Mouth Write a Cheque Your Butt Can't Cash' Borgia's bear, only less furry. I hope no one is sad this Valentines day. Like Martin said, there are so many reasons to be single these days. One more being that couples are sappy, hand-holding losers, who tend to have a permenantly glazed expression and often dribble without realising. And a package arrived today, addressed to Eric. M Arthur. Ha bloody ha! This is plainly NOT FUNNY. I was registered as Eric.A MacArthur in the school records until the fifth year, a fact which went unnoticed until my name didn't get called out with all the other girl's names lining up for our exams. No, *I* had to go and sit in the canteen with a load of grunting cads rather than in neat rows in the hall with the rest of the girls. I don't think I've ever fully recovered. Have I told you this story before? Before I float off with a head full of popmusic and a heart full of nothing, I must advise you all to buy 'Playground Love' by AIR (released today).
