Hi All, This is Toby C from Hong Kong. Life is funny when u are willing to be crazy. After a "Uplifting House" party, my friend brought me to a place, a new age workshop. This place open at weekend for a woman's mates to drinking and talking. We play different kinda Bongo-like hand drum that she bought from Thailand. What a nite. Sinister: isn't it the same mistake

good morning. I am more than tired as I peel my eyes open a bit farther to read my emails. I am exhausted still. It so sad when a night of sleep proves to be anything but refreshing. Grrrr. I have to work now. So that's always fun. Two things first....religion debate....I shall not inflict my beliefs on the bible or God or what have you.......but I will say that I think most religions has lead a lot of people away from religion by it hypocrisy and it's crude lack of morals. I am a christian....but I am not a member of any of the big massive religions who set about to gain more money and exploit or who work hand in hand with he government and support wars and so on. And second...someone named Keith said - "oh but forget bright eyes"....and that all of us who are speaking highly of them are 15 and 16. I can say that being directly in the town Connor dwells in and knowing who turns out for his shows....that you are right. Yes, the majority of fans these days are 16 year old girls (I am not....but I have been listening to them since I was 16 and I know how these girls feel).....and that all they want ti someone besides N'Sync to worship, someone who actually has emotion. It's sort of irritating at the shows and such. But I am glad they have chosen this path. While they might not understand his songs or what have you....they will. But there are still those of us who are fans of Bright Eyes, that are over adolescence and who actually like bright eyes...maybe it's a comfort to know they came from the street next yours or somthing....but still. So Connor might whine.....but he is good and he can whine away. So Belle and Sebastian....I too like Steven am jealous of your picnics. It's no fair at all. But I probably wouldn't end up showing if there was one here. sob sob. And I had the highest of hopes of them playing in England while I was there in September. But now all my hopes are dashed to bits. I have my first mosquito bites. Ok....too work I go. I apologize for my opinions and for being contrary. Have a sweet day. Sinister: party people

i read the freaky trigger bit, it is more of the whole music as an empirical science type of writing, quantifying his own opinions to support a subjective conclusion or something. it is incredibly arrogant to assume he has the facts and he needs to set the record straight for anyone who might think that belle and sebastain had more than 1 or 2 tunes in them. ugh. i am not surprised that the clientele are bashing belle and sebastian, likely they do not want the burden of the belle and sebastian mob. sure i love belle and sebastian and the fans are mostly lovely people but most articles about the band can not escape a mention of the fans, the sad fans, the weepy pathetic boys and the rest of the lot. maybe the clientele would like to be judged on their music, but then when has a band ever achieved thatin particularly with the british press. truth is that the clientele are far more twee than b&s to my ears, and to those same ears i don't understand any comparisons between the two bands so who knows why i am relating my feelings about them. does this binobo person choose this name because in relation to the rest of his body are his testicles massive? the new edwin moses lp is a party on plastic in an incredibly lovely package, siesta always has the most stylish digipacks but this one is just exquisite and the music while entirely composed of cover versions(masterfully executed plan there) is just sensational, should be since all of the songs they chose are classic slices of soul apparently done by edwin moses the soul singer not the high hurdler. if you are too lazy to search out the originals(like myself) pick up this tribute record instead, just gorgeous! only 5 days until the fairways live:) haven't seen them since the seo hui popfest, of course everyone should buy their album too. oh but forget bright eyes, i have been reading the list for a bit and a few people have talked up his brilliance, i imagine these are 15 and 16 year old girls, he cries in most of his songs probably distraught because his aunt crocheted him a teal afghan instead of a mauve tea cozy. little conner is good for a laugh though because anyone that serious surely can't be taken even the slightest bit seriously. keith m __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Sinister: New York City Picnicky

My dear dear listees, After much debate, there is a date for the NYC picnic. This date is SEPTEMBER 9TH. Why am I telling you this so far ahead of time? Because I expect you all out in full force! Make your travel plans, you're all coming to New York the weekend of September 9th! Come for the picnic, stay for... MY BIRTHDAY! I am turning the big two-one on September 10th. Feel free to bring presents, money, candy, and especially alcohol to celebrate. ;o) The picnic is going to be in Central Park, probably near the duck pond. Obviously, as the time draws nearer I will have more details of where, when, and what there will be to do. I'm thinking of Pin The Tail On Struan...can someone fetch Struan for me? Or at least a nice picture of his ass? There will be no gang rape, sorry. Although I heard from a wee birdie that pop bands can be led out of Central Park in chain gangs if they are caught smoking marijuana there. You can aim for that. Sinister: A picnic and a goodbye

Hello fellows listees, Thanks to the ones who came on Saturday for that lovely London picnic. We even had sun, some girls even played football, and we had lots of fun of course...Thanks also to the people who said I was doing fine as picnic-organiser, it was probably a bit of a lie but it was nice :) Well, I am off for long holidays next week and won't have any regular email access until the end of September...So I am going to say goodbye soon for a couple of months. * after my last post's umlaut-ridden mess, i shall be swift and nonlingery - but felt compelled to post what with all this talk of mother theresa - let us not forget here, that mother t. (as i like to call her), in her 'wisdom' was fiercely anti-contraception / abortion etc. this is not, in my (perhaps naive) opinion A Good Thing. frankly. i meeself am not religious, and tend to find my solace in skyrainsun type things - not so much 'god loves me' as 'there is love at all'....but lots of good food (god fodder - aargh) for thought, ta lawrence & david... and steven (herding cats! tee hee) - yes, churches on hot days - 'cept i always feel like fraud, and wish i could light a candle.... sometimes the world makes more sense when yer paddling in the sea eating a minimilk... happy camping xs (hmm content - i've been humming woman's realm all day on and off - like when you get recurring hiccups / sneezes, and you think they've gone away, but they creep back up - keep getting little waves of 'just a minute close your eyes...' ... Sinister: cruising in my little blue sinstr

Haven't heard them yet...what they like? >> There are a few sound samples on their website (http://www.amphetameanies.co.uk) and after that you can do fun things like try and guess the collective weight of the band to win the new album. I really liked what I heard but unless I win the contest I probably won't hear any more from them seeing that the States, I am in*. I hardly ever post because I have nothing to say (not that it stops anyone else, but their personal lives are so much more interesting), but now I finally had something to say. When I sat down at the computer it went right out of my head. So, I could talk about the new album. Right. I like it. I don't know how I like it in comparison to everything else because new albums are incomparable to old stuff, at least to me. I would say it's my favorite but that's probably because it's brand new. But I do spend a good 5-10 minutes a day dancing around my room to There's Too Much Love. It's good to know I'm not the only one. Beyond the Sunrise reminds me of a Russian coronation song we played this spring in school orchestra (if anyone cares, it's called Boris Gudinov, I know I spelled that wrong). And just like the B&S song, we all hated it at first but it eerily grew on us whether we liked it or not. I got my B&S ampersand (I hate that word, I just call it "and-thingy") shirt yesterday. I thought I was outsmarting the sizing demons by ordering it a size larger than my bus shirt but it fits the funniest of all band shirts I have. Kind of like a potato sack in some places but not in others. I tried on the bus shirt again and it's starting to look better. Wearing white makes me look tan, which is nice I guess considering I'm so pasty. The postal lady who delivered it was excited because she's from Scotland. I got the FLAPPYCLAP mug for my mom and she actually cried out in joy, at least I hope it was joy. She's obsessed with mugs. I love my mom. Oh, speaking of mom. We got our vanity license plate yesterday. She wanted it to say LOOPER because as I said, she's a very cool mom, but that name was already taken. So what did we end up with? SINSTR. I think she's okay with it now but she still thinks it's a bit weird. She felt a little better after we saw a car with one that said NUTTER. So if you live in St. Louis and you see a blue Jetta looking rather sinister, feel free to say hi at a stoplight but please don't honk like a maniac because I'm still paranoid about driving. My license test is next month, wish me luck. My dad and stepmom have been nagging at me to get a summer job. In theory I should, because it would teach me responsibility and they seem to think that if I don't, then I won't be accepted to college (yes, I know that's ridiculous). But the only places that will hire me without a big hassle is McDonald's (sweatshop) and the coffee place across the street which is run by a big scary yelling guy. The only reason for all the hassle is that I'm 1 month under 16, but I feel a guilt trip coming on because I'm not being productive or something. I guess the whole point of complaining about this is the hope that someone sympathetic out there has some ammo (in word form) I can use to shut my dad up about it. He expects perfect grades and lots of extracarricularness, he doesn't know me at all. I'm planning to work next summer anyway.. it's the principle of the situation, or something. Blah. A MOMENT FOR JEN Did you get my letter? Whenever I put stickers on envelopes it confuses the postal animals and they postmark it in about 5 places because they somehow forget what a stamp looks like compared to a Snoopy sticker. Just one question before I go - where could I find that song people were talking about not too long ago, Rhoda? Like so many things, I've heard *of* it but I haven't heard it. But I'd really like to. Sinister: Milk ain't the only thing that should be skimmed...

Milkmaids and spinisterines, books and book conventions, solo roadtrips and summer flings, work, work, work, work, work. We never see the light of day. No one really posts for weeks and rumors has it that Miss Honey ran off with a farmhand and has gotten herself knocked up (nothing like a blatantly false rumor to start off a post. Im getting back into the swing of things now, baby!). I'm disgusted. I'm sorry but it's not like me, I'm depressed. There was what, no one at the mutant squirrel races and we had one entry into the Isobel Campbell look-alike contest and he was disqualified later. Why do I bother? Oh, I never claimed to be a "Real Genuis" anyway... Miss Laura Llew Its not just my name. It is a command. Im gone for the summer and does anyone even notice my absence? No sirree (not even Ree!). No one writes. No sonnets dedicated in my memory. No Petrarchs being resurrected for me. All I want is a small statue made out of spam dedicated to my glory. Is this too much to ask? I would even settle for a jello mold that kind of resembles me if I were to tilt my head and squint my eyes but noooooooo. To punish you all, Im going to shock this list by actually posting some musings over our favorite group, Pink Floyd. Erh.... No. I mean that other group we used to talk about. You know, the one with the guy with the twee voice and that chic who plays cello with the healthy bum.... Is anyone else wondering when someone will stand up and take credit for being the master behind the artwork that inspired the title for the new album? Remember what James Carville (close enough) said about those who were making claims about Bill Clintons deeds (Why are we just now calling him a lame duck?) Theres no telling what youll get when you drag a 100 dollar bill through a trailer park. Well, can you imagine what wed find trolling for a clever bathroom graffiti artists? I had heard someone mention an article about Belle & Sebastian in a respectable magazine like Time. (I like a group featured in Time? Am I getting to be middle-aged already?) I just happened to be in the Doctors office a couple of weeks later and so I decided to hunt for it. A couple of the other people in the waiting room gave me funny looks as I collected all of the issues of Time in a neat pile (theyre printed weekly and I didnt know which issue it was in) and methodically went through each one skimming for a picture of my future cabana boy. When I would come up empty, I would quickly discard the magazine - tossing it aside almost decapitating some wary patients who soon learned the art of ducking. Six knocked over lamps later, I found it! Eureka! (but no pics of Stu in the bath tub). I cant say a bad thing about Stu but the other members of the band were looking kind of shady in their pictures, eh? There was a 'precious' mention of The Catcher in The Rye. The article quoted some internet fan as posting something to the effect of, "The new Belle & Sebastian album is beautiful. There is a God!!!" Well, you know it wasnt it from this list since it became uncool to actually like the album. Ignore my cynicism and lets move on to a deeper subject of discussion. I somehow doubt that if there is a God he is going to display his presence through a Scottish bands album. Call me a religious elitist, I know. As all southerners know, God only displays his presence through billboards with witty saying like, "Nice wedding. Invite me to the marriage", "Which part of 'thou shalt not' did you not understand?", "My way is the highway", "The ten commandments arent multiple choice" and "If you use my name in vain again, Ill make the commute home longer". Yes, billboards with these sayings and then the name GOD penned under it pepper the Interstates of the Southern United States. Im not sure who sponsors them (some reason I think the Almighty himself might choose a better color scheme then the pasty drabness usually used) but I find them amusing as Im cruising looking for young impressionable boys in which I can sweet talk into buying me lots of books. Mmm, thinking of books I have a new recommendation. Its a Belle and Sebastian recommendation even and I expect you all to read it. I see you sweating.Dont worry its a children's book so there are lots of pretty pictures. The Book: Miss Rumphius The Author: Cooney The Belle & Sebby Song It Correlates With: I Could Be Dreaming. The line: "Do something pretty while you can" It won a book award and I find it quite nice. While Im not as fond of it as Dr. Seuss (who I sport socks dedicated to his characters daily) or "Tuesday" (nothing like flying frogs!), I do find it to be a great book with a Belle and Sebby theme. Rah! If I had known that Julie was left by her lonesome in New York, I would have dropped by while I was up there last weekend. Jules & I bonded after we both found out that we had fallen in love with boys who had wandered into the bookstore and bought a book of Dorothy Parker poetry. Oh the things that will make young girls swoon! We could have rented Twin Peaks and had a marathon. A friend and I discussed once and figured the elements of such would be coffee (well hot chocolate for me and not just because I put a fish in the percolator), cherry pie, and a dead girl in a plastic bag for effect. You have some extra roommates lying around, dont you Julie? (Megan, be thankful youre in Oregon). I checked out the movie "Laura" from the Library this weekend. It is an older movie also featuring a dead girl named Laura. I recommend it highly but then again I would. And on a personal note (which is a bit flat) - I went on my first solo roadtrip! I have cut the US horizontally by car almost 10 times by now and have taken it from every angle possible so I decided to go straight up to New York. It was just me, my car, a bag of salt & vinegar chips, root beer, and some shoddy mix tapes. I disturbed myself by at one point listening to music in alphabetical order. I had the Silver Jews, Silversun, The Smiths, and then I started to scare myself so I threw in Simon & Garfunkel to keep myself sane (probably the only time S&Gs music was used for that purpose!). I drove the entirety of the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway (a 500 mile scenic drive which cuts through the Blue Ridge Mountains which run from Pennsylvania to Georgia. However, the parkway itself only covers from North Carolina to the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia where it then turns into Skyland Drive and you have to pay a whopping 10 dollars just to drive the stinking road which has potholes! All Im screaming, at the top of my lungs like a demon possessed banshee and my pocket 10 dollars lighter, is that if Im paying that much to drive a drive than I shouldnt have to replace two tires at the end of it. Plus, for ten bucks I could use some entertainment like those deer that were just frolicking by the side of the road at every curve should have some top hats on and some canes. I wanna a musical! and maybe a back massage by the cute forest ranger who took my money..).
