OK, another quick one to follow Markc's (oh, the mental pictures). I am also looking much forward to tomorrow, and all of you frightened bunnies don't worry, we are, in fact, lovely. And if you don't come you'll have to spend all of next week reading about what a super time we had anyhoo, and then you''ll be sad you didn't. In other news, I am now officially OX bound, as i am to be a TUTORIAL SECRETARY at ruskin college in Oxford, which is nice. Now all i need is somewhere to live... I'm actually dead dead excited about it and everything, although i may produce a small fact sheet to distribute tomorrow to avoid having to tell the same tale 50 times. Humourous Oxford moments from the other day: 1. In Waterstones (big book shop), somewhat confused american to shop assistant: Do you have a book with a recipe for shepherd's pie? 2. Walking down the street, see sportsgothic/nu-metal/muppet girl, with prim proper middle class mother (always somewhat humourous). Mother then stops and heads into rather ornate looking church, goth gurl in (possibly) marilyn manson t-shirt trailing behind, head bowed. Made me laugh anyway sorry, i really can't hang around, i've got to go and sort my kid sister out. It's a pisser that the band aren't doing grooop things for a while, but I'm reminded that they once said something along the lines of "playing in the band isn't a job that seven people's lives have to revolve around". If they're not enjoying it or they've got other things to do then let them. Sorry, I seem to have turned into a hippy nomark. Must go back to Chapel. Hey - guess what! I decided to swallow my pride and investigate post-Syd FLOYD. And it's really good! 'The Delicate Sound of Thunder' is my favourite, I think. As a document of their triumphant '88 world tour, it faces the seemingly impossible task of capturing the spectacle of flying pigs and crashing beds, yet succeeds with aplomb. An object lesson in the art of compiling live albums. Shamefully, I've yet to hear 'A Dark Side of the Moon', which is all about mental illness apparently, so that sounds really good. I like concept albums about insanity. I wonder if it's better than Madness's 'The Rise & Fall' and Brian Wilson's 'I Used to Be A Werewolf But I'm All Right N-owowoww? Bit behind the times, but I was listening to 'Up a Tree' last night and I really enjoyed it! As concept albums about being a slack-arsed piss artist who loves his wife dearly go, it's pretty good. And the studio version of 'Winter Wooskie' has really grown on me too. To be dewy-eyed and daft about it for a moment, when it gets to the end of the single and those reedy nostalgic strains quickly float by in their unassuming way, it feels like the closing of a wonderful chapter. Goodbye Stuart D, I'll miss you after all. Hello people This is another 'i'm just out the nursery' post, so if you are expecting something amazingly witty please delete. Anyhow, i'm having a dilemma as to whether to come to the London Picnic (thanks to Elena for answering Q's though). Prob is i've been really ill this week (meaning this morning has been spent reading 1000's of emails - got eyeache so deleted about 500 sorry!) So i don't know if i have the stamina to do the whole travel to london on my own with no friends to meet people i don't know on my own thing. Yes, i'm emphasising the on my own bit! Just for the record i do have friends but they don't do the B&S thing so much as me. So (assuming i make it) if you see a girl with a little miss naughty bag with black (ish) hair looking scared that will be me. All 'hellos' greatly appreciated. Also Elena (if u have a mo) please email me a description of yourself so i don't go round the pub asking random people if they're sinister and getting kicked out for being strange! Um B&S content .... First fell in love with them when i heard LLPJ and since then it's been a steady warm feeling that makes me smile whatever they do. Not sure of fave song but in the whole Beyond Sunrise/Electric Renaissance debate my vote goes to E R sorry but Beyond S just drags me to the floor and sits on me so i can't breathe. Sinister: 6 minutes actually

Okay, a seven minuter, as lunch and P!U!B! calls. I woke up dead perky today, then got my usual bollocking or seven for being shit at my job. Then I got a two-letter letter from Lucy, sold my shares in lastminute.com (Jesus, what was I thinking?) and drank the cup of coffee which felt rather safe, so I drank it all, and now I'm moving at three times the speed of light cos I can't handle caffeine. I'm dead excited about the picnic tomorrow. I might even wear my orange sweater. It's dead nice. Apparently tangerine is in this season. Though at the moment this season appears to be winter. Hold on, that's not as parochial a comment as it may sound - apparently the eastern seaboard and Western Europe are both suffering from the same stagnant weather system which has twisted itself into a shape that it can't get out of. So while it's shit for all of us, it's bloomin' gorgeous south of Greenland. Boo. As for tomorrow's (London) picnic (weather update: 20 degrees, sun poking from behind cloud) - PLEASE don't let anyone get put off by the weather, or even the fact big gay Martin is going to be there - meeting people is the lifeblood of this list, and if you're lucky you could go for a snog too! Helle Sinister People and "rick" >From what I remember diary pieces are what the list is all about. You should have read the web page before you signed up for the list. The Sinister list is legendary because it is a list as devoted to Belle and Sebastian as well as each others lives. Yes I to think the Pink floyd thing was silly, but I also believe that this list would honestly be alot less intresting if it where not for those so called whiney diary pieces. You are a disgrace to us American Twee people rick...which probably does not really amount to much. If you do not like the diary pieces quit complaining and just unsubscribe...my freinds who did not like that aspect of the list did so. This is a list on how Belle and sebastian has an impact on our lives...it is a fantics page that focuses not only one the band but the lives fanatics... It is kinda shedding light on how highly personal songs mean to other people....it is not just a music list, sinister is a reflection of the people on the list, as much as the Belle and Sebastian songs are reflections in people in their lives. The list is to discuss B&S, but also to discuss why exactly we relate to B&S, and maybe just show a little bit of our souls. Everybody who has been on the list for more than a few months knows this, even some people in the nursery know this, and maybe that is why they joined the list. Sinister is going against the grain in its own way by being the way it is, it is several great stories with only one thing in common, and that is Belle and Sebastian. Sinister: Jordi is a Dick Slap

Well done to Big Dave for spotting the link between Kate Bush and the Floyd. It's true, Dave Gilmour did indeed "subsidize a demo tape" for fifteen year-old Kate. But that's not the connection I was thinking of. Mine's this: Both Syd Barret and Kate Bush made records based on texts by James Joyce - "Golden Hair" for romantic Syd and "Sensual World" by ever-expanding Kate. I've never heard the former. At the time, Kate's interpretation of the Molly Bloom monologue seemd a bit superfluous because a) it's already full of music, and b) Molly leapt off the page and into "the sensual world" as soon as she was committed to paper. This is why I was so impressed with its use in "Felicia's Journey", it was given a new (terrible) significance, thus rescuing a nice but unnecessary song from oblivion. I also like "The Man with the Child in his Eyes" and "Underneath the Ivy" or whatever it's called. This morning I listened to "Lo Boob Oscillator*" It's over six and a half minutes long! We had a very nice picnic yesterday, thank you. For me personally, the highlight was in the post-picnic record shop, when Jordi came over with a huge grin and an even bigger Pink Floyd limited edition box set. Everyone was very well behaved and we talked about YOU. And Pink Floyd concerts. I'd been up to the Olympic Stadium earlier and commented that it had struck me as a bit small. "That's where Pink Floyd played!" said Jordi. We really kept the Floyd flag flying. Thank you Lucy, I am rather a fox. Sly old stoaty old fox. Grrr!
