hellllooooo! and a great big yawn from me (hmm how I do not love auto formatting- is it so wrong to want to stay in lower case?) ^Ö but aaanyway ^Ö a yawn cause I have just woken up ^Ö it^Òs gone six, but I had such an astonishingly terrible ^Ö no, bloody stupid ^Ö day, that I had to go to bed on it and try again^Å. so far so good^Å the sad thing is, is that I had the most *wonderful* day yesterday at the picanic ^Ö truly it made me smile all the way home till my head hit the pillow^Å and I just want to say thanks, so so much to all of you for being special and quite amazing and ummmmmmm^Å yeah^Å keep having little pockets of nice memories of things said / done ^Ö elenita, a while back as I recall, said ^Ñthat^Òll be a nice picnic :)^Ò and she was right. however, I shall leave a big detailed account to dabber hands than mine, and briefly say boo hoo to my horrid day. and to miss pixiedust who seems to^Òve hadthe wind taken out of her wings by foul bank things. they can be utter bastards, it^Òs true ^Ö my worst student overdaraft type swrangles tend to be of the ^Ñover overdraft limit, so haha what a clever idea ^Ö we^Òll fine you and take you even further over! And then fine you again!^Òetc, whilst rubbing hands together gleefully of course. It^Òs horrid, poor you. My rubbish thing then ^Öwoke up bravely fighting hangover ^Ö all trains cancelled at lee (borough of a thousand enchantements) station ^Ömissed train at leweisham by one min, and watched it speed away ^Ö finally got to work, and door locked, no security guard to let me in^Å afer 20 mins he arrives,but says as I have no id, he can^Òt let me up ^Ö even tho same guard let me in last Sunday^Å hmmm.. ^Ö was v upset and hadproper barney with guard, him refusign to let me up, all ridiculous really. And in the end I had to just go hoem, back the way I came. wanted to cry and v frustrated. I tried, I really tried to make day better ^Ö went to nat. portrait gallery on way back, ^Ñcause I keep meaning to, and I wanted to get liz taylor postacards for various peeps ^Ö really quite enjoyed bp exhibition, nice picture of a girl sleeping (I voted it as my fave) ^Ö but some one trod on me precisely where my favorite red shoes had gven me a blister yesterday ^Ö and she said sorry, and I wanted to say oh that^Òs okay, don^Òt worry, but it really hurt, and all I managed was a feeble owww^Å and went to get liz card, and they only had multipacks, so had to abandon shop. I shouldve bought a rubber or a pencil sharpener perhaps.oh dear, I^Òve just had a look a t this and I suspevt the bozard person wil have a field day. nevermind. so anyway. *and* my ^Ñputer^Òs broken at honme, so I^Òm at my dad^Òs now, and my little brother (who is *beautiful* and looks like that harry potter) is waiting to play ^Ñriven^Ò. I might join him. Actually last time I played his game, I couldn^Òt even get the plane to take off properly and crashed. Sinister: Banks

>>BANKS<< I f*cking hate banks too. I remember a couple of years ago when I asked my bank if I could have a Switch card so that I could access and spend MY own money where and when I wanted they said no because they wanted to wait and monitor my usage of my account for 6 months before they would consider trusting me with a card (despite the fact I'd had an account in the same branch for over 10 years and had never been overdrawn or even close to it). I told them where to shove their account and took all my money to another bank which was only to happy to give me what I wanted. The point is though what gives them the right to tell me I can't get to my money using a system which surely is more convenient for them cos I don't have to use their branches or their blessed cashpoint machines and more convenient to me cos I don't have to carry cash. Banks would do well to remember that the average guy in the street is their lifeblood. Sure they could probably live off the interest they charge to third world countries or clubbing baby seals to death or whatever it is these evil bastards do but they must make a hell of a lot of money out of ordinary people. As for getting an overdraft, try another bank. Most of them are fairly kind towards students in the hope they can bleed them dry in later life with mortgage charges etc. but to be honest if I could I'd keep my money under a matress (sure it might get nicked if someone broke in but at least the robber wouldn't be on 100 grand a year and driving a company BMW.) Crikey, that must read like the rantings of one of these reclaim the streets nutters that went on the riot in London the other month (which I might add I am definitely not) but these big corporations really piss me off. hey everyone! thanks to sophie and jay and paul for reassurance that the world isn't all bad.... having a bit of a rant today. paul already knows this, as it was conceived in its present form in a personal mail to him (you can skip this bit paul) anyway, here is my problem >>>>>> " society and the state and all the institutions associated with those things. the government and the finance industry. nobody is seen as an individual anymore, everyone has to be pidgeon-holed into one category or another. the world is so big that everyone just gets lost in a sea of faces and numbers. i'm not a person, i'm a number. i dont qualify for this benefit or that benefit, i do qualify for this that and something else. feed my number into a computer and you can know everything about me. its such utter bullshit. i went to the bank the other day. i want to get a small overdraft to tide me over until i get paid for my summer job. i get paid in arrears you see, so i dont get to see any money until august 15th, although by then i will have been working for over 6 weeks. its a really good job, great pay and everything. but i dont have enough money in my bank account to last me until the middle of august. i have to pay for things like bus fares and lunch and its my mums birthday in three days. so i went to the bank to see if they'd give me a £100 overdraft for 4 weeks. when i get paid i'll have more than enough to pay it off, and my student loan will be going in as well in september. but because there's been very little activity on my card for the last three months (because i'm a student and dont have any money to spare for things like shopping) they wont give me any money. its so silly. for the bank to give me an overdraft, i have to have money already going in and out of my account. BUT IF I HAD MONEY GOING IN AND OUT OF MY ACCOUNT I WOULDN'T NEED A FUCKING OVERDRAFT. i just dont understand the logic behind this system, and the way its geared against helping people. i feel so helpless and insignificant, because some computer is making decisions about whether or not i qualify for help, and this stupid machine doesn't even take into account my personal circumstances. i told this to the woman in the bank and she said to me that if they made decisions about giving people overdrafts based on everyone's individual circumstances, that would take all day. i felt so insulted. the whole thing is a time-saving (therefore money-saving/cost-cutting) exercise!!!! i couldn't bluddy well believe it." i dont think this the first time that i've come up against "The System" in my young adult life, but this is the first time its having a directly negative effect on me and my sanity. i hate borrowing money from my parents cos my dad has always tried to control me with his money (the tight-fisted scheming bastard that he is). i KNOW life isnt fair. i KNOW life isnt always logical. i just thought there might be a bit more common sense and compassion in the world. no wonder everything is so fucked up. society just doesnt trust anyone anymore. the whole state is paranoid. this is why i love B&S and this list so much. a little haven of niceness and trust in the middle of this awful awful fucked up society. which leads me to the thought that Syeven Wells probably has a lot to answer for.....cultivating intolerance and ill-feeling. thoughts on this anyone? sorry, very long and self-involved post, but thanx for reading (if you got this far!) personal replies are always welcomed love, karenxxxxxxxx +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. Sinister: ...Out of the nursery and into the streets....

...It's a grey, cold, not very promising Sunday morning. Kinda windy, streets are empty.Soft, reluctant rays of early sun hover in the air, hesitant for a while, then land helpless on the sad moist pavements. Joan's treading's resounding although she's trying really hard not to shuffle her feet.She's wearing her faded flares-how many times she'd been frowned upon for them from passers by and friends- and a creased t-shirt with a funny little bus and a large tea stain ( for that reason it will therefore be referred to as: teashirt).It's quite cold today for someone to wander in the streets wearing only a teashirt but her only sweater was carelessly thrown on the floor of her room,a comfortable fluffy matress under her-even more fluffy-still asleep cat now.She didn't want to wake The Cat up (she wouldn't bother finding him a name, anyways he didn't seem to like any of the previous ones, he would just blatantly ignore her)...it would be such a pity.He spent the whole night curled on her cold feet.Joan has her headphones on.As always.She'll prolly be listening to that worn out tape she always carries with her.The one with the chipped corner and the little sticker "B&S" on. She's been really sad lately.For a reason she doesn't know.It's like, you know, someone has pulled the drain cap and everything inside her started spinning around and then dissapear in the vacuum outside her body.And now she's left with that feeling of tears pricking her eyes all the time and the constantly moist and out-of-this-world gaze as a result,-cos tears can really hurt you know-,her 18 years in vain and the strange melodies of flute and strings and haunting mellotron streaming from her headphones and flooding her soul . She's going to the park.She'll lie on her back on the grass, it makes her feel all itchy and stuff sometimes maybe she'll sneeze a couple of times but then she'll be ok,and watch the clouds change colours and shapes. Reaching her favourite place she sees some kids, 'round her age. "Well,they're still kids,I guess" she thinks. "Cos they're certainly not grown-ups,and only grown-ups can be referred to as "people"and "people" is something bad and meaningless and impersonal altogether.And I'm not that old after all!!" So they all were,quite logically, a bunch of kids, lying on blankets or on the grass,drinking,laughing their brains out, playing soccer further away,reciting poems and quotes to each other,dead excited about the festivals they've been to,their new jobs and just finishing their finals. Some of them were throwing things to each other,chasing around and saying bad bad words presumably arguing on some Pink Void or Joe Floyd or was it Boyd??Whatever....Pink Panther was the coolest of them all......Someone took something out of his bag and shouted to the others that there it was,original apple butter with all the traditional ingredients and stuff .After tasting it they all aggred that apple was prolly a product that derived from apple butter and they all went weeeeee!!!!!crazy and I guess a jar wasn't enough for everybody. Anyway she didn't want to cause them trouble and went and sat under a tree and watched them having a good time during their summer wasting.But then she saw that boy she knew from long ago and reluctantly raised her arm and waved and Jason saw her and went and sat by her and then a couple of kids from her eastern neighborhood she'd never spoken to before approached and ,in a while, everyone was curious about what were the others doing under that tree with that strange girl and came there too, bringing their happy noises and joy and apple butter with them , some even brought their sorrow that had already started fading away and everything was so nice that even the clouds went away and a big big yellow sun appeared and the kids took off their sweaters and, what a surprise!!!Under their sweaters was that funny little bus teeshirt and all the funny little buses started honking in delight and the day was beautiful. ...Ummmm.......I guess that's all from me.I'm Joanna ,this is my first post and I'd love to be your friend if you could stand me..... xxx ......to all of you..... Sinister: The Hunt for Rodd October

Of course Jordi isn't a dick slap. It was just a play on words. I don't know what a dick slap is. I should have followed Sir Cliff's advice and said "Jordi and the Dream of Horses". Jordi is a splendid chap, as many of you already know. I just thought I'd clear that up. Before he gets his own back... One of the topics we touched on the other day was the lack of concerts. Apparently dates *were* pencilled in, so something must have happened. I don't think it's just wilful indie-schmindieness. But I don't know. Perhaps the long-awaited next instalment of "diary of a band" will throw some light on the matter. Face facts kids, at least when you can't be bothered to do your homework or go and meet your mates you can at least cheer yourself up with the thought that you're being Belle and Sebastian-ish. I'm hoping against hope that the delay has been caused by the B!O!A!T! being inconveniently booked up until next year. My, those were the days. I bought a Beenie Man album, but I'm taking it back again. Bloody rubbish, it is. His first album was called "The Invincible Beenie Man, Ten Year Old Deejay Wonder". During our picnic the other day, the song "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime" by The Korgis (?) came on. Sent shivers down my spine. Pop is all about moments. Floyd content: The other day I said "See Emily Play" was perfect. It isn't. Because of the words "you'll lose your mind", a tedious subject before they ever really got started on it. Sinister: Musings from the feast

This looks like the first picnic post, so I suppose it had better be good in order to set a precedent for those that follow. Despite having been on the list for some considerable time now, I had never before ventured out to play with the sinister crowd. I'm now really glad that I finally did. I probably didn't show it, because I only said about 3 words the whole time, but it was nice to meet so many people whose minds work the same way as mine. It was quite odd meeting people whose greatness I have been in awe of. Truly fantastic to see the ever youthful Mr. Dastoor, Mark, Lucy, Pamela and the Steves' (to name a few), but the greatest honour of all to be bestowed on me was finally being in the presence of the legend, Miss Erica MacArthur. As I hobbled off round the tube on my way home (nasty injury preventing me playing football you see) I felt a twee, smug, warm sensation inside having met so many wonderful people (or more correctly, having been met by, as my shyness usually prevented me from saying anything back). I do apologise for not really speaking, but I was paying attention the whole time, just observing with quiet wonderment how great it is that such a friendly group of people can be born out a passion for a twee little Scottish band. That was a big paragraph. I'm sure it should have been split up in places, but my English has gone to pot. Well, I'm looking forward with relish to another meet up and hoping that there may be a Tigermilking before the end of the summer, but no pressure Mark! Bye bye lovely people. listen: somewhere i've read that the only reason we ask for advice is to attempt to disobey the truth we know to exist with perhaps brief and temporary supplemental drivel. perhaps not in those words exactly, but in the same ball park. there's nothing like ballparkin' a quote. listen: so what i need is advice. and it's a bit of a dilemma. it's something i realize to be not only far-fetched and totally hilariously stupid (but stupid in a newly stupid way, very refreshing. the type of stupid that slaps you twice, back and forth, in the face, and then you feel your eyes swimming in your skull, as if for the first time). this advice pertains to a situation that could very well be its own b&s song. unfortunately, it's not, and instead, it's a window in my albeit short yet terribly emotionally vulnerable life. listen: so i work in a bookstore. a barnes and noble to be exact. and let me first say how embarassed i am of my previous post and the girl i fell in love with. if i only realized that things like those happen way too often than i can fully contemplate and register. anyways, i work in a bookstore. and i was at the information station, which for those of you who've never entered such a terrible corporate establishment such as this, it's a desk in the middle of the store that directs people to books. sometimes i wish the books would just walk away. anyways. ok so this girl came up. and she was beautiful. yes. very much so. can anyone describe that feeling? it's a weird thing...it's like a numbness. anyways, i'm being way too long with this. so she asked for the high school reading lists for the area (yes, she is in high school, but then again, i'm still a teenager too) and i helped for 15 minutes or so. talking to her. recommending books (invisible man was one....hmm), and flashing my finally brace-less smile. anyways. i was flirting my pants off. not literally. yet. but we never really got into a my-dad-is-dying-we're-going-to-just-bury-him-tomorrow discussion in terms of personal closeness. so i let her take the list with her, into the fiction section, while i helped other customers. five minutes pass. i return to my desk. and i see the notebook. and i being, the stupid terrible romantic IDIOT that i am, look through it. and what do i find? i find a name and number. ahhh!!! listen: here's the question--did she leave it for me? did she write it? is it her number?! or am i hallucinating? the exact details were: a full name (first AND last name) with a number, local. Sinister: big apology and small pennsylvanian towns

hello folks, *** PROG ROCK BOLLOCKS *** weird that you're all talking about pink floyd, weirder still that you're talking about them just as i get some bang up to date pink floyd related gossip. the partner of one of my work colleagues is an artist, quite a successful one too, and has just finished touring the states with roger waters, doing all the set design and giant inflatable pigs and stuff. so anyway, on the last date of the tour the band finished their set, and everyone leapt from the stage and ran as fast as they could for the waiting limos, so the artist guy has to leg it after them, and there's this whole crowd of musos and their entourage running like nobody's business, and jumping into a fleet of cars and speeding off down the road. the thing is there were no screaming crowds of fans chasing them or anything, and he still has no idea why they ran off like that. shame perhaps? i used to be a bit of a fan, but i haven't really listened to any of my floyd albums for ten years or so, and think it was probably just a phase i was going through. i suppose you could argue that "i fought in a war" is a bit like pink floyd, if only because roger waters is always going on about wars. i don't think there's anything wrong in liking pink floyd, but they are a bit old and fat and irrelevant now, not unlike myself. i really dislike records by yes though, because the bass is always too loud and sounds terrible. to make matters worse, by the mid eighties the bass player was the only original band member left, and then he even went to court try and stop all the other original band members from releasing a record together - because the sleeve had lettering that looked similar to seventies yes albums. these wild rock stars, eh? even so, rick wakeman does seem like a sound bloke. *** FLOPPYWENCH **** i disagree with the idea that the new album shows its influences less than its predecessors, i think it just shows different influences. i mean, the band play a left banke song live, and then nick the intro for the model... the gentle waves cover a nancy sinatra song, and then isobel comes up with a nancy & lee pastiche... you could even argue that the keyboards on leave the light on have a "theme from taxi" kind of quality to them reminiscent of much of beck's stuff, someone else that they have covered live... i would say that TWATTYBUS displayed the band's influences far less than FLOPPYWENCH. i seem to remember someone, probably mark c complaining that the band don't use flute as much as they did on their early records - is there enough on the new album for you? i'd say there's more flute than there is guitar... almost. brian, i definitely remember you complaining that stevie is always doing that choppy steve cropper guitar thing. it's good to hear "there's too much love" proving that he's learnt to do seventies stax guitar sounds as well as the sixties ones - and on the same song too! no wonder everyone loves it. *** OTHER BANDS *** brian again, the nixon ep that sandcastle released is great, it kind of reminds me of a cross between the acid house kings and another band, but i can't quite place who... has anyone else heard the single "robot trouble" by barcelona? i don't follow the charts, so for all i know it got to number one and i look really stupid for asking. i thought it managed to be funny without being shit, which is quite an achievement really. does anyone know what the four extra tracks that appear on the US release of baxendale's album are? i've already bought the UK version, and am now left pondering whether i should have bought the US one instead. mail ME if you can help, not sinister. its a shame that the clientele felt the need to slag off b&s. i suppose after four years b&s have stopped being a fashionable cause celebre, and are viewed as part of an indie old guard. i still love the clientele though, grumpy old buggers that they are. *** THE NME *** they're a bit sad really aren't they? bye, kevan ps apologies for not making it to the picnic *********************************** chickclick.com http://www.chickclick.com girl sites that don't fake it. http://www.chickmail.com sign up for your free email. http://www.chickshops.com boutique shopping from chickclick.com *********************************** +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org.
