Hello Merry Munchkins, This emails content is not 100% B&S, apologies I am weak and un-focused. *Pretty Pretty Please with sugar on top* if anyone feels the need to comment on Rick's post can you mail Rick directly rather than the list. I know it's hard to resist sometimes and you all mean well, but stuff like this tends to get quickly out of control and does no one any favours. Please trust me on this. - Floyd, The Pink - Musical semolina I'm afraid. Best suited for angst-ridden party's when someone's swiped all the Meatloaf/Doors/Cat Stevens CDs. The lyrics give the appearance of being deep & meaningful only when drunk or stoned, scientists have termed this the "Led Zeppelin Syndrome (LZS)" but very little actual research is currently being undertaken on the phenomenon. This is of course just my own poorly considered opinion and I realise that many people like PF immensely, this is fine but I am not one of them. I strongly associate it with a period of my adolesence that I'd much rather forget. - 2001 prt I - Unless we're talking about 8:01pm tonight then no live dates this year is not exactly what we wanted to hear. As someone rightly pointed out this kind of behavior plays straight into the hands of their detractors, I can imagine Swells was rubbing his corpulent scab encrusted hands together with glee when he heard the news. I'm not upset as such as it wasn't totally unexpected but I can feel my faith slipping a bit. In comparison The Stereophonics are touring this year, it is indeed a cruel world we live in. - 2001 prt II - Are we really a mere 5 months away from Intergalactic travel, surreal babies floating in space and lip-reading supercomputers ?, how will B&S survive in such a world ?, will there still be a place for their well crafted pop melodies ?. I certainly hope so. Arthur C. Clarke may well have been responsible for the Communications satellite (though personally I remain unconvinced) and is no longer a suspect kiddie fiddler but I think we've got a good few centuries of normal life left before we have to start dealing with space travel on a semi-regular basis. Despite this I still have a soft spot for Arthur as he was indirectly responsible for providing us with one of televised comedy's shinning moments, I'm of course talking about The Goodies "The Search For Arthur C Clarke" episode. Genius. - London Picnic - Will someone be sending another reminder to the list about this and the planned pre-picnic pub meeting ?. I deleted the emails as initially I was going to be working and unable to attend but that's changed now so can someone refresh my memory regarding times and all that. WRITE ME DOWN AN ASS So, I was crying in a supermarket, when all of a sudden, Seymour Stein started playing. Well, that turned out to be a dream. A dirty dream. The second one of the night, at that. I had just begun to wonder, "Why is this happening to me, I'm not a child," when I ran smack into Judy and spilled her pharmaceuticals all over the floor. That was too much for me, so I strapped on my terry underwear and took a bus home. DRAW ME A SHEEP Well, I got hom just in time to wake up, only it turned out I woke up right smack in the middle of a poem. But the weird bit was that it wasn't any particular poem, I was just stuck in the middle, where dogs go on with their doggy life, where one stumbles over the bramble of blackberry--halfway between April (which is the cruellest month) and the mercy of time's means. It seems I had fallen right out of my body and into the pert where the limerick gets funny. Naturally, I opened my mouth to protest, but all that came out was a unique testament to the loveliness of a girl I know. Quite a lovely testament, as testaments go, but that really wasn't my concern at that precise moment. After a time, I decided to move, but that turned out to be too narrative, and left me right in the middle of a forgotten epic. So I turned back toward a pretty how town (where no one loved anyone more by more), but I tripped over a split infinitive and landed face first in a big pile of incomprehensible synecdoche. It became apparent that this was going to be a very strange day, indeed. About the same time that I was picking my way around a patch of flowers that tomorrow would be dying, I heard the unmistakable sound of a crying girl. As luck would have it, I fancy myself something of a storybook hero, so I set about to finding the source of the sobbing. After running a gauntlet of cannon to right of me and cannon to left of me, I found myself quite winded (I'm a bit pudgier than you might expect to find in a poem, especially in the middle). I held my side and walked slowly to a place where water comes together with other water. I glanced about, and who did I see but Porphyria. It seems her lover had ound her hair three times her little throat around and sought to strangle here. I crept up behind the two and, weilding a rather tasty metaphor, I whacked the disturbed lover upside the head. He crumpled to the ground, muttering something about Xanadu and Kubla Hahn, but I couldn't make out the last bit. Her thirst for air beign so urgent, Porphyria gasped, then jumped into my arms and began to count the ways in which she loved me in a manner so metrical and tedious that I rapidly grew quite tired of it. I dumped her off the first chance I got (which just happened to be at midnight) in the company of a middle-aged, middle-class woman. It being so late, and I having been so busy, I was quite tired, and so, using a preposition for a pillow, I closed my eyes and fell fast alseep. When I awakened, it was Sunday morning. It being Sunday morning, I was very cautious of my actions. One never knows what the objective correlative consequences might be for a given action. But by the time I had finished brushing my teeth, it was quite apparent that I had returned to my own dull, none-too-well-articulared existence. How can you criticize the 'whiny diary pieces' when they are the very soul of the list? We ARE those stories, and besides, I find some of them rather amusing/touching. Okay kids, what the hell is going on? Since a flutter of worthwhile posting that occoured when there was actual belle and sebastian activity taking place, this list has been degenerating into pathetic, post-ironic mush. You people have been talking about pink floyd for christ's sake! Why don't we just start some grand forum on Styx? At least this prog rock nonsense is a break from the pathetic, whiny diary pieces that comprise the rest of the list. The posts often seem like overdrawn carictures of the sort of whiny loser that detractors view belle and sebastian fans as being. And frankly, when you start having b+s dreams, it's high time to commit suicide. I encourage a ban on non-b+s related material (and no, slipping b+s into your pathetic storys about crying at the supermarket doesn't count). I'd be perfectly willing to lift the ban if someone were to submit a well written, interesting piece that didn't have anything to do with actual news about b+s. Wow...i think someone needs to get some action? What do you all think? The whole time I was reading Mr. Bozard's mail I couldn't help but wonder how someone could be so pissed off about a few little posts dropped off in his mailbox each day. Hey Rick...I think it's called anger management classes my friend. I mean come on..suggesting someone commit suicide because of a few dreams...whoa...taking it a little far there, don't ya' think. I mean I will admit, When i first read people were having b&s dreams I thought it was a little kooky, a little bit strange, but hey..i don't think anyone should die because of it. maybe that's just me though, i don't know. After a while I started to enjoy reading them. what else am i going to spend my time doing? after all, i have no life. that is what you think of us, right RIck? I saw a very young boy today with his sister and mother. They were crossing from the parking lot to the mall. (sounds exciting enough, eh?) so anyway..the young boy had this big bad video camera in his hand. he was all smiles video taping his mom and sister looking all sister and mom like whilst trying to get him out of the path of traffic. It was nice to see such a young kid having so much fun making his first indie movie. Hello you lot, prog rock? You say Pink Floyd, well I say Yes. Yes! Yes! Rick Wakeman could kick all your collective arses, including Pink BLUDEH Floyds. He's so cool. I have a YES! postcard lurking about in my room somewhere. It was drawn by a bored Oxfordshire teenager. It used to be on my wall, then I moved! So now it has to be on ......wait for it......Another Brick In The Wall! Ahahahhahahaha oh dear not even I saw something that bad coming. I've talked to Stephin Merritt about prog rock you know. Well, maybe made one comment, then ran away going "oh my god I really am an arse". But at least my love for YES! has made a worthy impression on my life. Well it certainly hasn't made me grow a big beard yet. I read a book on Rick Wakeman too. He's fucking great! He's a lad, he likes curries - whats wrong with knowing something about the theoretical side of music and putting it on ice skates, eh? I bet those Sexy Pistols were dead jealous, I bet they were all like, to the 100 Club going "ere guv'nr, we're Ye Olde Sexy Pistols and we wanna do our POONK RAWK on ice thangyewverymuch". And Mr Promotor went "Feck orf" - as all known cockneys are said to have spoken in the "seventies". And Johnny Rotten went "grooo you're so MEAN!", and ripped up his nice new tshirt. Which is how POOK RAWK started. See, even the three chord antithesis of prog rock was indeed caused by prog itself. I don't care about Pink Floyd by the way, but YES! are great. I bet Rick Wakeman would get his round in, down the pub. So, a Barcelona meet up? Can I come? I'll bring my own fresh veg. Oh, and I'm not going to speak any Spanish, and I'll really annoy everyone by singing "Barcelona", by Queen. ALL THE TIME! I like the Pop band, Barcelona me. But I don't know why. They support DC United for petes sake. Does anyone support DC United on this list? If so, no offence but you're thick. I support METROSTARS, cos I'm great. Hello kids. First post out of the nursery, trying to hit the floor running, covering several recent topics... 1. THE Magda Boom commented something to the effect that skateboarding boys who listen to Hip Hop and have rice pudding spilled on their cardigans would be a funny sight. Oddly, that combination (sans rice pudding) is pretty common, I thought. Sounds like a lot of my friends. 2. The suggestion that a celebrity thread be discussed: They film "Dawson's Creek" near me in NC, and a lot of people I know have seen Katie Holmes here and there. One co-worker CLAIMS to have brushed against her shoulder in a club. 3. Canada. Those sneaky Northern neigbors of ours, with their maple syrup and lumberjacks. I must say that Kids in the Hall was one of the best TV shows ever. "Touch Paul Bellini" Yeah! 4. My new room mate owns every Jean Claude Van Damme movie ever. He drinks Gatorade and watches bad action movies all day. Then he goes to the gym. The struggle continues...
