hey kids, having just pressed the delete key far too many times, i felt misinformed enough to post. i'll dispense with any b+sish content first, namely that i finally got high fidelity on video, it was good, my boyfriend was really affectioante for once, thinking himself lucky that he had a girl who exclaimed at all the same references as him and explained bits of p!o!p! history that he wasn't aware of. apparently there aren't many girls like that, or mabe they're all just ugly. *joke* its a few weeks since i posted last, but i have to tell you that i have never had so many responses as when i posted about there being pooh in our toilet. thankfully it seemed to disappear of its own accord, but i was very grateful for all the advice sent to me. lesson for the day: if you want to make friends, talk about pooh. did anyone see top of the pops on friday, and the mad woman who apparently is in the charts (?) and richard blackwood was spurting over. she just started making really odd squeaking noises in the middle of the song. no-one commented so i assume they were meant to be there, but it was the strangest thing i have ever heard. jenowl talked about purple. purple is good, particularly purple fur, like my bag made from cushion covers which people always laugh at. someone said 'tidbits' i always thought it was titbits, like the bird, as in small bits of food for a bird to eat. but i could be wrong. i have flu. and the chemist only had lemsip, and not beechams flu plus, which is better. but only in blackcurrant flavour. (its purple) i served terry christian at work on saturday, i think he saw me grinning to myself, as if i recognised him but didn't want to say anything and he winked at me as he left. but really i was just trying not to laugh at his hair. oooh, actually i've thought of something that is kind of content, but more self promotion. if any of you are awake between 3 and 7 o'clock tomorrow (tuesday) morning we will be broadasting on student radio 106.2 in the manchester and on the internet at www.fusefm.co.uk everywhere else. the reason you should listen is that the lovely people at jeepster have sent us the whole b+s back catalogue (except modern rock song and legal man for some reason) to give away as a prize. so please listen for details of how to win. we should also have some other stuff, hopefully including a signed badly drawn boy album. even if you're not arsed about winning stuff, please listen, it should be good, last week i played baxendale, low, spearmint and felt. shit i was meant to meet people 5 minutes ago..... .... must run, love and irn-bru, fiona. +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. Hi Guys... have any of you seen the article on page 16 of today's daily record? They are claiming that the free secret gig at Glasgow Uni is a blatant attempt to win stuart Rectorial votes. OK... I suppose on face value it does look like that... BUT.. I'm not as cynical as these journalists... think about it this way... If you are a belle and sebastian fan who are you most likely to vote for...? I mean, OK like myself, you might feel swayed (I mean, my fav. author is up for the post too) but If you are a fan you are more than likely to vote for SM, free gig or not. Now, if you ARE NOT a B&S fan and you're not intending to vote for him, you are hardly likely to think to yourself... Oh look, a free gig by a band I don't even like.. I must get to that and then vote for their singer as he was kind enough to set up a gig for us. No, you wouldn't would you?... thus... The gig, while no doubt trying to secure the votes that he has already won, is mainly a way to let B&S play to a dedicated bunch of fans who don't get to see them NEARLY enough! Aggrrrhhh Weather. Last Wednesday, it was 70 degrees F. On Thursday, it snowed about 5 inches. Friday, it was normal. During the day on Saturday it was in the high 60s. By the evening, it was in the 20s. This is *terrifying*. Hello global warming anyone? Jesus, it's February, it's supposed to be the month of nature trying to take humans down. It's supposed to be cold as fuck. All these delusional people praying for the cold to end. They're crazy. February:Xtra frosty Cold::August:XtraXtra Hell Hot. At least for this geographic location. I drank a small cup of chocolate/orange *espresso* drink this afternoon after spending half the afternoon in a record show (which was not a good idea to begin with given my willpower against records, but i came out with cheap yet fab things and not too many of them yaaaay... ...and-I'm-still-W-I-R-E-D----------------------------------------------. fuck. And I have to go to work tomorrow morning. Not that early, 8:50 a.m., but that's certainly early enough. dammit dammit dammit spazz spazz spazz rawr rawr rawr rawr spazz rawr spazz rawr spazz rawr spazz spazz My cat cought a mouse last night. Sinister: fold yr. skinny hands, child, you lift them to heaven

so here I am, excited by everything, excited by the world, frightened and depressed, and enlightened and impressed by gybe!'s not-so-new-anymore album. and gee, i think. aren't "fold your hands child, you walk like a peasant" and "lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven" varry similar titles for albums? coincidence? well, what with the close-together times at which the two records were produced and release, yeah. but it's neat anyway. furthermore, gybe! say they won't be touring until this summer. from this, i can conclude that they WILL be touring this summer, or soon thereafter (although that sort of thing has been misleading before. i like that. as for belle and sebastian touring, well, that is super-faboo beyond words, and I can only hope they'll come to canada. they will, of course. at least, I should hope so. legal man was on the charts for four weeks here, and hit those charts at number as many. not that they're a household name, either. I mean, that's a singles chart. and a sales chart at that. so really, since really there isn't much of a singles market in canada, it doesn't mean anything, except that a bunch of b&s fans crawled out and bought legal man, and others did too, but no one ever heard it on the radio for all that! not here, I mean. not on mainstream radio, I mean. and, oh, how the radio, the ONLY radio we can get here in stratford, is mainstream. hélas. and so, where was I going with this? ah, yes. it won't be february 25th for much longer in this time zone. I give it an hour and fifty minutes. but while it is, let's feast for Bl. Sebastian. see, I looked in the book of saints, and sadly I could only find cyril/methodius's feast day listed under july (june?) 7th, and not on feb 14 as someone said. but on the internet I found a couple of references to it being on other days. and one of them was feb 14, so there one goes. But anyway, out of curiosity, I looked at the list for today, and it said "Bl. Sebastian". Turns out he was some mexican fellow who died in, iirc, 1600, and i forget why he was beatified, but that's what the "bl." means. well, it means "blessed", i.e. he's not St, he's Bl. i'm not a catholicism expert, so i dunno what the next step after beatification is, that makes you a saint. it says in the book. two more miracles need to take place, anyway. well, let me tell you something, popey. IT'S A BLUDDY MIRACLE IF SOMEONE CAN PERFORM _ONE_ MIRACLE AFTER THEY'RE DECEASED. so Bl. Sebastian couldn't pull it off. well, big whoop. the book says to even get beatified he needed to have performed two already. come on! two miracles, that's pretty good! and who knows, maybe he performed a third after he died! well, they should count that as a miracle then, too! but I'm not complaining. because if he was made a saint, we wouldn't be able to call him "Bl. Sebastian", now would we? i don't pretend to understand the whole process. and by the way, on the subject of our similarly-named friends, do we know what's to be on these new singles? you know, I just recently heard isobel's "landslide", and I think that would be a perfect match for the feller who produced "downtown." what was his name? mike hurst? something like that. something i should know... anyway, i bet that's on one of them. i mean, it's perfect for release. it's a neat song. and it sounds so very petula clarkish indeed. anyway. one of these days, I'm gonna hear the strains of Blessed Sebastian On The Radio. and i mean here. on mainstream here radio, and not that I won't turn the radio right off after, cos everything ELSE on mainstream radio is mainstream. but i dunno. it's just one of those things, y'know? i want them to be mainstream, not because i like mainstream, but because i like being right. that about sums it up. LOOK, THEY'RE GOOD, I TOLD YE SO! i know what you're going to say. "oh, well, that's not what you should be thinking. pooh on you, you go about things the wrong way." well, not to be rude, if you were thinking of saying that, but you shut your mouth; how can you say? human, loved, and so forth. anyway, that's my silly post for the day, and there are now about 86 minutes remaining of Bl. Sebastian's feast day. i guess i can say i did something in honour of him, because i made a Tart In Ymbre Day from The Forme Of Cury. and i don't know when Ember? Day is, but maybe someone who knows why that particular Sebastian isn't a St also knows that. and i didn't have any "raisons" or "corrans", which is a shame, cos it's rather boring without them. but i made it slightly more interesting, replacing some of the breadcrumbs with not too bad chese of Chedar. like ah said, that's my silly post for today. more time has elapsed... mark your calendars for next year.. or those of you in more westerly time zones, do something grate for Bl. Sinister: why do b & s moments never happen when you want them to?

this is my first post so eeeek please don't frighten me... i'm only ickle... this post will probably be of no interest to anyone, so i won't be offended if you hit delete now... i was going to wait till i had a real b & s moment to talk about before i posted, but that got me thinking, what would be a good enough moment to post about? so i thought and i imagined and i dreamt and before i knew it i was sure that on saturday night i was going to meet the mystery girl i'd been bumping into of late and summon up the strength to talk to her... anyway, i half knew the mystery girl (and had a big crush on her) about 4 years ago... i later found out that she'd had a crush on me at the same time, but by then i was going out with one of her friends (eeek i know...) after that i didn't see her for years. she stopped going to the place where we'd met and disappeared completely. but in the last few months i've seen her 4 or 5 times and every time i've just managed to stutter a 'hi' and that was about it. it turned out she was working in a shop in leicester, but now the shop's closed so once again i have no way of finding her... i'd only ever seen her once at a club and that was new year's eve at leicester's indie club so i was hoping that she'd be at brighton beach (a once far-too-rarely northern soul night) yesterday. i even kinda felt sure she'd be there (i think i've been listening to far too much b & s and gentle waves; it's turned me into a smiley heap of loved-up niceness...- does that count as content honey??) and i had this dream that the dj would play a b & s record early on while the dance floor was still quite empty and i'd go to dance and i'd see her in front of me... now this dream was not only unrealistic because the girl probably wasn't going to be there, but because the dj had never (yes NEVER) played any b & s. i'd been dancing for a while when i heard those guitar notes, that downwards arpeggio gubbins those drums... yes it was... Sinister: dark buildings

working at the library today as it was closing; all the lights were off and the building was dark throughout. it's a big building, and in the middle everything was completely black. in the distance, i could see the light of the windows filtered past thousands of shelves and millions of books. the cosy place was suddenly creepy. too much information. too dark for anything it made me think. buildings should never be dark. they should *always* have some dim light coming somewhere. to design a building without light is unnatural. apart from darkrooms, which are the cosiest, most relaxing places. Content: ooh! new singles! touring makes me nervous, though. i don't like going to gigs, really. too many crowds. in dark rooms, as well. but ... on the other hand, how could i miss it? To all those of you who are debating which RPG game was the best, i have just three words to say: The Bard's Tale. this correspondance is now closed. Will your band [F]ight or [R]un? i liked the post about the depressed-looking girl sitting by herself by the roadside, because i notice those sort of people and want to say something, but never do. i never dare to. there is one of these events, i particularly remember. when i had first moved to scotland and was still in Tourist Mode, i decided to go and visit the old cemetaries of the city. i was in the Old Calton Hill graveyard, which is walled, tiny, quiet and crowded. nobody else was there, apart from a girl sat cross-legged on a grave. she looked as peaceful as those underneath her; i was embarrassed that i'd disturbed her privacy. i looked round the mausoleums in the darker corners of the ground, and when i emerged she had gone. maybe she wasn't even there. hopefully, i'll never forget her. ghost stories are always the saddest, i feel. well, *real* ghost stories often aren't actually that interesting, but good ghost stories are as sad as the girl on her own by the roadside. stories of dead servant-boys, or the ghosts of disfigured aristocrat girls trapped in vast country houses. you know the sort of thing i mean. i wish i could talk to ghosts. do something for them. i cried at the end of The Sixth Sense, you know. look, i should go. i've said too much already. /me turns out the light. x anonymous from grimsby -- "We've /all/ got dismembered Cub Scouts under our front porches, Honey" -- Douglas Coupland "N is for Neville, who died of ennui" -- Edward Gorey ICQ 66321009 +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org.
