15 minutes...begin...NOW hello everyone! I feel very good today. That has been a recent trend in my life, and I quite enjoy it. I leave for London in three days! I am going to have several days free in London (I think), so if anyone has any suggestions on how to occupy my time there, I'm all ears. What really spawned this email was the talk from Ms. Madeline about songs at a funeral. First off, I'd like to say that her parents sound very cool. My father would probably want some Tangerine Dream and maybe R.Kelly's "there ain't nothin wrong with a little bump 'n grind". I think it was three years ago now, a guy in my class died in a car accident. Everyone went to his funeral, even people that didn't know him, which I didn't care for, but that's beside the point. Anyway, they played Aerosmith's "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" at the funeral, and it made me worried that they would play a piece of sentimental garbage like that at my funeral. So, I decided to begin making a mix tape of songs I wanted played at my funeral. That list changed again and again, until I eventually scrapped everything and decided not to worry about it. I've decided to start it again, and revise it every 6 months or so, just in case I die. I am 18 now, so I'm running that homestretch to the great beyond. Anyway, what do all of you sinister-folk want played at your funerals? Of course, being from the Southern United States, I could always go for a dixeland jazz funeral. That reminds me, do you have to be a UK citizen to be a part of the sinister party? If so, then I'll stick to the good ol' dixiecrats and honor the memory of the late, great George Wallace. segregation....YEE HAA! Within the past year, though, as I've grown up and removed my teenage blinkers (no slight on teenagers at all, just that I was stroppy and self absorbed when I was one), I can really begin to understand why my mum married him and didn't leave as soon as he became a pedantic, work obsessed, moody and slightly autistic old man. I think my attitude towards music has been shaped not only by my folks but by the autistic traits than seem present in my family. The kind of obsessions I develop about things are the same kind of obsessions that my Asperger's brother has (Asperger's is a form of autism). My brother, bless him, has dug out all my old copies of Select, NME and Melody Maker from the attic and memorised them. So I can ask him "Which copies have articles about Belle and Sebastian?" and he says "I'm not sure of the month, but it was 1998 and the cover was orange, with a woman on it". And he wonders off to his room and returns two minutes later with the December 1998 copy, the cover showing Alanis Morrissey on an orange background. The other day my parents sorted out their will, which I suppose is slightly morbid. They did tell me the songs they'd chosen for their funeral though: "Won't Get Fooled Again" by The Who, "Yes" by McAlmont and Butler and "Another Brick in the Wall" (my dad's a teacher). My mum unnerved and probably frightened her solicitor by saying (about her own funeral) "It's going to be brilliant. I can't wait!" Must insert some content. Erm.... I'm going to see Belle and Sebastian soon. It's going to be grand. ANd I'm looking forward to the new single/EP type thingy. Sinister: manchester happenings - who said there was no such thing as a free lunch?

Sinister: Frogs, foxes, hedgehogs and soundtracks to life

I suddenly got into a bit of a panic today. It finialy sunk in that my way of living for the past three years is about to give me a kiss on the cheek, wave me off at the airport and then heave a sigh of relief once I'm gone. (a normal asumption for the overly paronoid). I first heard B&S three years ago when an ex-boyfriend made be a tape, which had Boy with the Arabstrap on one side, and a Nick Drake compliation on the other. The relationship ended in freshers week, when I went to university, but my passion for B&S grew. My 3 year trip in university, which has involved some of the most traumatic, emotional, but life reavealing experiances in the short 21 years of my life, began with Belle and Sebastian and now is about to end with Belle and Sebastian. When I witness them playing their little hearts out at Brum, a week after I finish my exams. This all got me thinking about how bands remind you of events and significant times in your life, and how they can quite often soundtrack experences you're going through. This may not be an original thought I know, but as lovers of Belle and Sebastian (who are a very emotive and down to earth band), I'm sure a lot of you can associate with this. As a new listee, stuck on the nursery for the past couple of weeks, I've been very intrigued reading sinisters comments about tosters, biblical shanagans, radio and various other whims and fangles. Foxs eating biscuits has to be my favourite though. I've got a fox that eats washing powder. Although it has been debated with friends as to wheter he is real or not. Larry the frog may be pleased to hear that I heroicly saved a petrified frog from the raking teeth and claws of a big huge scary cat. He didn't seem too grateful. Just hoped away, but I'll put that down to stress. Mike should watch it with Larry. My hedgehog Ed and my sisters hedgehog spikey, continuously e-mailed each other when I went to university. This was all very well untill spikey tryed typing to fast with his feet and fell spike over whisker onto the floor. There are now 2 B&S's in my life. Belle and Sebastian *and* Badmarsh and Shri. Will I be able to take the confusion? I think so, being as I don't really like badmarsh & shri that much and no-one except on this list calls Belle and Sebastian B&S and no-one at all that i know calls the other one B&S. there would have bean a normal paragraph here but i reckoned that the Sinister 1400 would prefer loaves and fishes. Which reminds me, there is something that has been bothering me lately, in the miracle I mentioned just before, did they eat the fishes raw? If not, how did they cook them? Could someone who knows something about the bible explain this? Or is it an allegory or parable, i never did listen in R.E. My present school doesn't go in for R.E. so I'm happy being as I disagree on principle with organised religion and find being taught about duller than, well any hip-hop song (if that word can applied) you care to mention which with me is really saying something. We did 'Oranges are not the only fruit' in English and I have some coursework to write about it. Kirstin, can you write a 600-700 word essay which 'Parrallels the story using the feelings of repression and desire for personal freedom in the style of the original'? It would help as it was due in for the end of the last christmas holidays (Asking people to do your work for you isn't against sinister rules is it?). I want to marry Badly Drawn Boy depite both of us being male and me never being able to remember his real name. Any musical genius of his standard deserves marriage(or is that a curse?). Have finally caught up with my Sinister mail, it is nice to feel all informed an co-ordinated. Two more quick points: -I got my new desktop from 'Robster's' website which is very good. It's the first one on the 'photos' page. -I'm afraid I cannot supprt the sinister party as I have my own party which polled 12 votes in the mock election at school which is 4 more than the conservatives. Pretty good going for a party that only put up 12 posters and which went through 3 or so names and generally complete crap. The final name was 'the anti-party non-party' because we couldn't get our act together. Instead of voting, people who wanted us had to spoil their ballot papers. Do so tomorrow, I can't because I'm only 15 and can't vote (yet). Maybe the disenfranchised such as myself will take over the country, you never know. Sinister: Win a donkey

Hello everyone I haven't posted for ages and ages and I imagine after reading this garbled nonsense you will hope I retreat into the background for ever. I was thinking about entering the Win a Donkey competition in last weeks NME, but then I got scared that I might win and have to spend all of my non working hours at The Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary talking to Dinky, so I didn't bother. I've sent them some money though so they can make sure that the Donkeys are OK for stuff. I got my tickets today for the Royal Albert Hall gig, which made me feel very excited, but then very sad. I was supposed to be going with my girlfriend, but now she isn't my girlfriend any more so I'll have to find someone else to go with. I hate splitting up with girls because I always seem to stay heartbroken for such a long time rather than just be able to get on with things and find some other mad fool to go out with. Anyway this is depressing me so I'll stop. I'm working on a pitch at the moment to win some new business, which means that I'm working ridiculously long hours. I've started to have this really quite cool recurring dream about being on a French game show. The weird thing about it is in real life I've forgotten all my French but I'm pretty fluent in the dream when I'm answering questions. Ace eh? Firstly, I would like to thank the Right Honourable Will Salt for providing the second best entertainment of the UK General Election campaign (shortly behind John Prescott punching a member of the public in the face). If we get into power, I'm going to stand for Foreign Secretary, because Robin Cook spends all his time since he got the job shagging random women. Ally Cook 96 can be Sports Minister, David Moore (Chelmsford UK) could run the Ministry of Agriculture, and Mark Casserole can take over from Peter Mandelson. Would the new Prime Minister live at 10 Roddington Place? If the politicians want a great publicity stunt to fight voter apathy, they should follow the example of Nepal's leaders. I went to see the Pearl Harbour film last night. And it's exactly the kind of patronising, patriotic, Stars-and-Stripes-waving tosh that makes 95% of the world's population detest America. Sample quote: "These events would change America forever, and eventually the world". I'm sure not all Americans believe that the USA is the only place in the world that matters (after all, anyone who did believe that wouldn't be on a mailing list about a Scottish band), but when all we see is abominations like that film, and a president who's only left the country twice, we have to wonder... I presume the new photo which has appeared on the B&S band webpage (featuring Stevie snogging Ruth Madoc) is from the new single, but it's not the same as the front cover picture on the Jeepster site. I'm confused. And thick. Llaura Llew spoke to us about being naked. I hope the body parts gallery is still up and running. This really did take me 15 minutes. My brain just works very slowly, that's all. just to bore you to *death* first of all I didn't mean to sound obnoxious -is it the right word? my english here isn't so good... in italian it's "suupponente", if anyone knows it- about AIR... I was just saying how I felt about the three things, since they all touched me a lot, having felt for different reasons that way too during my adolescence and later on. "it's obvious, doctor, you've never been a 13 year old girl" *sorry jessica* loved the email about how your personal childhood history influences your musical taste. it does indeed, although I went through a phase where I had to experiment e lot. probably I am still doing it now...
