And now, for our UK readers, a Party Election Broadcast on behalf of the Sinister Party. Which party is the only one you can trust to run the country the way you want it to be run? That's right, the Sinister Party! Vote for the Sinister Party! We promise to revolutionise education by bringing the concept of "good taste" into music classes. All B+S CDs will receive government subsidies! All teenage boys will receive a free Isobel poster to hang on their wall! Independant music will be supported, and Steps will leave the country! When we're elected, the Meals-On-Wheels service will be replaced by a Cake-On-Wheels service. We will invest in our own custom-built Sinister nursing home to care for list -- sorry, *party* members in their old age! A free packet of custard creams to every voter! We will selflessly persecute online ticket agencies who don't send out tickets until the last minute, with every means at our disposal -- and that *includes* rocket launchers. I was quietly working at the bookshop when a girl came up to me and began to randomly tell me about a castle which is completely made of bones. She said she had thought of me when she had read about and had figured I would really like it. (http://www.kostnice.cz/ If I ever get married, this is where I want to honeymoon. Oh the romance!) For some reason, her saying that reminded me of the now immortal sillustrated words of Miss Archel when she spoke, "Tomorrow I go to get my tattoo. People keep saying, "Oooh what are you going to get - an ickle butterfly?" Evidently when people think "Rachel Foreplay," they see poetic butterflies. When people think "Laura Llew," they see chandeliers made out of skulls. Whatever I'm doing, I'm doing it RIGHT baby! Don't worry - you have my permission to completely ignore my inane babble. I have spent ten hours today cramped up in my mother's car driving while slowly eating a loaf of bread which I bought at a Polish bakery in Chicago (I started out thinking it was Sour Dough but by the time I got to Kentucky it started tasting like Garlic bread so who knows.) I haven't actually talked with anyone today, unless cops count which they usually don't. (I don't know why. Must have something to do with just the third grade education.) When I arrived home, I learned my neighbor's water pipes have broken and so he will now be showering over here for the next month while they're being fixed. I guess that shouldn't unnerve me but it does. I suppose I shall be fine with it as long as he uses a different bathroom as me. Otherwise the thought of being naked in the same place as some strange male will just be too much like college again. Speaking of being naked, it has been another trip and I didn't meet any Sinisterines or go to any picnics. I hope everyone in Chicago takes this personally since I most definitely meant it as a slight. It had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I got your e-mail too late and was incredibly busy with work. Heck - I didn't even wear a badge upside down (though I did wear one on my bag that said "Make Love Not War" right beside one that said "Nihilist Girl." I think if I'm going to make a statement it might as well be one of confusion). I take it that no one else was at the Book Convention there? If so, I'm usually easy to spot there since I'm wheeling my handicapped father around like a mad demon as I take the turns on one wheel. I'm always a helpful daughter and I think it help builds my dad's faith as his prayers challenges Job's in humility and fervency. Once in a while, I will turn my head and he'll surreptitiously sneak away only for me to frantically search for him only to find him an hour later greedily popping chocolate huckleberries in his mouth having completely forgotten about his deranged daughter. However, this year I was released from my usual restraints of a leash and shoulder harness. Oh the joy! It was most fun since large amounts of books always attract large amounts of phreaks. (Hence, the reason I was there.) The people watching was superior indeed. I feel it my duty to all warn you of Foxy Fields (formerly known as Paul Field) who I am now giving Southern lessons to. I just don't want you English girls to be caught off guard when all of a sudden you realize what a completely knee weakening, heart melting and debonair man you have in your midst. Of course, my pupil has not yet progressed to that point yet (sorry Foxy). We're just on the primer lessons really - the phrases one should always know when learning a new language. "Hello", "How are you?", "Your eyes are a beautiful cornflower blue that speaks of Sunday picnics in simpler times.", "Are you paying for this?", etc. On a complete unrelated tangent, I've decided that states whose speed limit is 55 on intestates should just have booth at the state line where I can pick up my traffic ticket. I'm going to go ahead and speed like a demon and I hate to be interrupted while doing it. Plus, the police officers always feel it necessary to point out my expired inspection sticker to which I respond, "If you think that's bad the car hasn't been registered for over 9 months. Ha Ha H..Ahem." Don't worry - Laura Llew almost never gets tickets. Then again, I'm sure I'm not the only one to have a quick tarty reply to the question of, "Miss, do you realize how fast you were going?" Heh. I can always pull 'it off as long as I don't have friends in the car like last fall Lucyfer: (to a cop who has just pulled me over for speeding) Will you write us a poem? Laura: If you have trouble finding a word that rhymes with "ticket", may I suggest where to stick it? *****Now it's time for the important question.***** Will 1400 people want to read this? I mentioned: "where to stick it" "being naked", & "Paul Field." If not then for the love please tell me, WHAT MORE DO YOU PEOPLE WANT OF A GIRL?!?!?! Did anyone but me think Isobel sang "Pi at the sunrise that is where we live" instead of just "Beyond the sunrise that is where we live", I did, until today when I checked it out, rather suprised. That for sure would be an interesting calculation. I got this record just with pop heart Jim O'Rourke with two other musicians, Weasel Walters (drums) and Fred Lonberg-Holm (violin). They pay tribute to the Japanese priest of noise Masayuki Takayanagi. For the ear and eye, this is just uncontrolled noise, but if you use a calculator, you can actually see it rocks uncontrolled, yet on the dot. Do you call it a violin or a violin? I was going to vote for my Sinister list crush, of course the ever so brilliant Laura Llew, but I thought, what is the meaning of voting for the popular girl if everyone else does? No calculation. Sinister: Memories Filled with Music

My sister gained a bit of a reputation as an alcohol expert whilst in university: At the age of 5 or 6 I learnt about red wine from my grandparents, may grandad poured single malt whisky into my ice cream whilst nobody was looking, and I drank champagne cocktails with an elderly aunt For some reason people found this strange. I on the other hand found it strange that this is not normal. I had a similar revelation when visiting friends houses and realised that their parents didnt listen to music or at least not in the same way that mine did. At the age of 23 I am coming to the conclusion that my relationship with music has something to do with my upbringing. Culprit Number One-My Dad: One memory immediately springs to mind: Having just moved house thing were not as they should be. Boxes stood unemptied and things had yet to find a rightful place from which to be disturbed. I sat on thick orange carpet in the new front room barely daring to move. My dad was near by kneeling at the record player. The carpet was hardly visible as piles of unalphabetised records covered it. My dad played me music, made me guess if a track was a blues song or not and told me that songs could be stories as well as just music. I watched as he cleaned the vinyl with a red sponge and plucked stray hairs of the stylus in between tracks. I had already learnt that records should not be touched in the black groovy bits and the correct way to stop the music was not to clumsily drag the needle across the turntable. To a 5 year old child, being allowed in a room with such treasured possessions is important and not easily forgotten Culprit Number 2- My Mum: My mums attitude to music was always slightly different. Whilst my dad reinforced the fabric of the house, piling shelves high with vinyl, CDs and cassettes my mum collected very few. And of those she did have there would always be the one chosen tape that would be played repeatedly for weeks on end and she, in steam filled kitchen, sang to it. Strangely enough she never did seem to learn the words, but the obsession was catching and soon my sister and I would find ourselves randomly humming lines. These two people are responsible for my obsessive attitude; they laugh at me now and blame each other for the misguided child they brought up. And though they might not realise it, I am proud to have been taught by them. Sinister: on a high, and getting down the broads

Hi all. I've just returned from a class trip out to the norfolk broads. It was such a fantastic day, I really have to tell you all about it. We hired out a boat for the day, and drove down the broads. We stopped at a pub for a coffee, and then later on we stopped and moored and had our picnic, then we went to a church and really, everything was brilliant. The company, the wildlife, the beautiful elegant houses built along the rivers edge. I even had a chance to drive the boat. well, it only had a maximum speed of five miles an hour. The moorhens and their chicks followed us in the boats wake, chasing us for food. The swans and the ducks and ducklings dove after us as well. The moorhens seemed to have some sort of odd thing going on.. as I drove, I tried to avoid them, but they seemed so intent on just going straight under the boat, that I stopped avoiding them and drove straight over them, and then they would bob out behind. I saw a kingfisher as well, it darted over the front of the boat while I was driving. I've never seen a kingfisher before, but as a kid, it was my favourite bird because it was so beautiful. Now I've actually seen one. I thought it was a sparrow at fist, til I saw its colours. That has totally made my day. We sunbathed, and we drank. We had brought food with us, but the teacher and another girl in the class had made really nice food... pasta, kous kous, salad, omlette with peppers and leeks. We went to this incredibly church, and everyone went up to the steeple to see the view. Except me. I hate spiral staircases, and there were two ladders as well. So i stayed firmly at ground level. I wouldn't have been able to get down otherwise.. I'm so scared of heights. two of our class lazed on the boat deck, in front f the steering wheel, as we drove back. I had to lift my head a bit to see past their bottoms in the windscreen. Now we've decided to hire out a boat for graduation, and drive down the broads again. Weather permitting. It was such a wonderful day, I'd taken three cameras, with about 36 shots between them left. Now they're all ready for developing. I wasn't sure about taking my expensive camera, worrying about it getting damaged or wet. But I'm glad I did now. I just can't wait to see the pictures. The only thing that irritated me was my hayfever, It started off today. While I was driving, of course. I never realised how lovely Norfolk can be. But what I have seen today... I've never seen such beauty like it. Scotland is stunning, but Norfolk... I now know why all those elderly relative and neighbours were telling me how lovely it is. Sinister: another year, another artery hardened...

It seems that the time of the year has come again known as "Rob's Birthday." This glorious day should be remembered and celebrated by all. Or so I used to think. I laughed at my parents and my friends when they said as you get older your birthday gets less and less a momentous occasion. But I have to agree. The excitement of my birthday celebration this year consisted of watching "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" with my sister while eating take-out Thai food. And then an unplanned meeting with a lovely Japanese girl at a cafe who shouted my name, her voice echoing off the stucco walls and cobblestone walkway, fading into the 5:00 traffic. A few words said, half a double-shot red-eye downed, and I was off into the growing shadows with a bag full of sandwich and my head full of her lovely face and of Buddha's glory and the Sumi-e I was going to paint that day. I drove by and she waved and said something, her mouth moving, her voice unheard outside the closed window and the Autechre that was blasting my eardrums. But today, my birthday, there is a full moon. Last time there was a full moon, an old junkie queen kept asking me if I wanted to turn a trick for $10. But it was Sunday. Sinister: On Casio Keyboards etc

Tell you what. That Ken Chu isn't a patch on the old Kenneth P. Y. Chu. I preferred his earlier low-key stuff before he got big enough to sell out the Albert Hall. Seriously though, folks being unemployed must be grate 'cos he's writing quality posts lately*, particularly the bit which reminded me of Casio keyboards. I used to have an SK-1 when I were a lad which could sample up to 5 seconds of noise so you could play tunes with it. I think my seminal opus 'WawawanwanWanker!' was much more groundbreaking than Thom Yorke Whines Over 6 Minutes of Feedback and One Fingered Piano (Again)**. Unfortunately I sold the keyboard in the early 90s after flannel shirts, guitars and suicide became popular. Damn. He also mentioned QVC which is also grate but is beaten out in overall naffness by the Shop! channel available to all digital subscribers. Just don't ever tune in to Shop! Erotica. You'll have nightmares for the rest of your life. Hannah said: "bobbins" And rightly so 'cos her ace film failed to come out. This is a terrible shame largely because the world has been robbed of the opportunity to see a clearly incapable man dancing quite badly on top of a hill. Sorry Hannah - I'm sure the next one will be even ace-er, especially if I'm not in it. "bobbins" is a grate word which reminds me of being in Manchester and also Mark & Lard before the daytime radio sell-out (1st time I heard B&S as well *sigh*). Nice to see the Shirehores are still going. Anyone know if they're touring? Wow! That post very nearly flowed. Sinister: Ponce around the block??

Don't suppose anyone is interested in going to see B&S in Scarborough with me are they? None of my friends can make it or dont like them enough. Seems a shame if anyone else in in the same situation of having to go on there own...'whimper' I am sane and everything. A girl would be prefered cos, you know they are less likely to want to steal all my chips and money. All apologies if im not supposed to do this. I was going to check through the rules and regulations but then realized it would be quicker to read Crime and Punishment, so ill do that instead. Less of the bitterness towards the Twisted Nerve gang. Ive met Gough, Votel and the Alfie boys and they were really cool. Very little sign of the pretention a couple of you bitter people have levelled at them. Yes they hang around Oldham Street. Guess why? Cos thats where the best record shops and places to drink are. Im gonna start a campaign to make sure their new local is one of those crummy old pubs near Affleck's Palace and the Colesseum! The ones full of people who fought in wars and..err fight in pubs. Yay! That would show them! And from now on they must hang about in Moss Side with the Crack dealers just so you people don't happen to see them. Wotcha reckon?? Just read Franny and Zooey again. I really love it. Anyone got any views? I imagine some people would find it really boring, but it fascinates me. I always learn something new from it everytime i read it. Hello list, Having no uni or no job is fun, I had an amazingly fun time travelling first up to Offbeat night in Sheffield for some B&S dancing and excessive Red Bull and vodka drinking, then felt ill the next day and went to the Sheffield picnic and met some nice people and had a fun time. Then, feeling worse for wears drove up to Glasgow (as you do) for the first time ever for fun and frolics weekend watching various goth bands (e.g. stabiliser) and people. Glasgow is great! I meant.. Glasgoo es fookin' grrea', ye fandan. Drank lager (eek) and a few Red Bull and vodkas and then felt ill the next days, then endangering everyone on the M6, drove back to Nottingham through the scenic road with some amazing BIG hills. I stopped at one of the service stations where you can see everywhere around, and just sat in the car and ate crisps and drank red bull, and "Beautiful" came on the car stereo, I looked at all the hills around and realised how small I am and went all sentimental, as opposed to just mental like I usually am. I heard the Johnny and Dave single, and it's grate, I was so moved I almost bought a carriage clock and shoved it, but I didn't. Or, if you have a large fan base already, and a casio keyboard, and can yodel, you can do experimental music, bash some keys on the keyboard, and yodel over it. Bingo! Cash AND world fame for being experimental and ground breaking. Jump in the river what do i see, a good review on the N M Eeeeee. But if you don't have a large fan base, you'll end up with Panpipes relaxation tape, which also sells well on the QVC shopping channel so all is not lost.
