yippie ki-aye you mother fuckers somebody complained about there not being enough life on this list anymore, well let the narrow wizard use his magic staff (fnar fnar) to add a bit of spunk to the list. what follows is an account of my last two days, it should contain enough sex, drunkenness, stupidity and B&S references to keep you happy for a while. I guess it all started in the William Wallace on wednesday, I was with sexy ex pro tennis player Kathryn and gay boy Gregor and we were drinking pints of lager at a whole 1 pound a pint. As happens in these situations we started talking about sex, Gregor scared us with tales of 4 guys in a wood on the uni campus (he's a randy devil), Kathryn scared us with the amount of positions she's managed in one night (the demonstrations nearly got us thrown out of the pub), and I don't think those two are gonna let me live down the story of carpet burns, horse whips and egg whisks (just don't ask). We carried on drinking back at Kathryn's place and soon were so drunk that I had an argument with her and went home to bed. I was woken up half an hour later by Kathryn knocking on my window and so I let her in and popped to the toilet 'cos if we were gonna argue again the last thing I'd need would be asking for a time out to go to the bog. Once I'd visited the oval office though I found that she'd climbed into my bed so I stuck tigermilk on the sound system and got on with enjoying myself (and enjoying her of course). next day I was tired due to only getting 2 hours sleep and had a stinking headache so I went to my friend Hannah's place for some sympathy, her new flat mate was leaving just as I got there and she decided to feel my cock and tell me that she'd see me round sometime as she was going. So anyway I sat and talked to Hannah for a bit before she decided to cook for me, I was rather surprised to get rainbow trout with stuffed peppers and so after the meal I stuck around to (how can I put this) thank Hannah properly. Somewhat bewildered and tired I was in no state to refuse the offer of a night out with a couple of my mates that night (this was yesterday if you're not keeping up) and so we went to our favourite local club, we got there just before 11 'cos the drinks are cheaper then and ordered 6 drinks each. The girls at the next table had a similar cheap drink plan and this seemed as good a reason as any to start talking to them. Things are a bit hazy in my memory after this point but apparently I was seen snogging 3 different girls though I can only remember 2 and think that the third sighting was mistaken. Next we gatecrashed a party on campus which was being thrown for people on some silly management course, all the drink was free so we got even more drunk before the lads I was with stole a bottle of whisky and 2 bottles of wine and went home. I vaguely remember talking to one of my exes at the party and think I might have went with her for a bit but I'm not sure and I think I may have danced to get me away from here I'm dying but again I'm not sure. anyway I got up this morning and read a mail claiming that this stuff doesn't go on enough in the sinister realm so I thought I would prove otherwise. Oh and I just remembered some girl telling me that I looked like Hugh Grant at the party. This is starting to worry me 'cos she's not the first to say this and it's just not true. I wouldn't mind if I did look like him but I don't and the bastard is taking over my life. I think my stomach has now settled enough to actually keep food down now so I'm gonna go now. Good day friends, Fiona mentioned a song called "Ooh! Stick You", by Daphne and Celeste! How happy am I? That song is the best Pop Song of this millenium I'm telling youse guys. Its perfectly obnoxious, insulting and parfait - I bet Johnny Rotten The Punkster likes it, and gobs along in tune. Wahoo! When I was drunk and sitting in the middle of Trafalgar Sq fountain, my friend and I shouted "OOH STICK YOU", at anyone who looked vaguely twattish, and then fell about in giggles. We of course looked PERFECTLY sensible and dignified. So, that is the best Pop of THIS millenium. So what about the Pop of last millenium? There's only one contender. I'm handing in the speed spiked soul bowling shoes, returning the scratched CD of futurepop, cashing in a refund on the Vengabus - the best pop of last millenium defintely belonged to YES. *wibble into a rose tinted past where everyone wore capes*..... The Story of Yes. Once upon a time, there was a guy called Rick Wakeman. He was a FUCKING COOL BASTARD, and everyone knew it. He had a big bushy beard and a wizards hat, and shitloads of keyboards and organs. He pronounced the word "Moog" as "Moag" (as it should be said), and was a GRATE laff. Everyone thought he was brill and invited him down the pub loads. But Rick was sad. He didn't know what direction of Rock to follow. After his Rapping in German Phase, epitomised in the album "Rumble in Der Old Skool Disko"*, Rick just didn't know what to do. Then he made an album called CLOSE TO THE EDGE with John Martyn and all the other people in YES whoever they are, and its TOP BANANA. I bet ALL the cool people like CLOSE TO THE EDGE, by YES. I do, for one, and so does Lixi who taped it for me, and I bet like, even TONY BLAIR the Best Prime Minister Ever of the New Labour Party of Fun and Frolics likes it too, and has a public/private ownership sharehold of it, in 11 Downing Street. Mad Dog Murdoch likes it too. He's cool, isn't he! You know what? I don't own any AC/DC albums. I wonder if I should rectify this. I bought an Orange Juice album and its got a remastered rejigged version of "Felicity" on it, which isn't as good as the version TimTeeTum taped me. Anyway. I will maintain the greatness of this album until Popular Beat Music of Y2K produces me something better than the SHIT BUNGED UP PUBLIC SCHOOLBOY TOSS of The Clientele. I mean...come ON guys, do I have to do it myself? You don't want me to do it myself, I can't sing and I tend to play guitars with plastic fishes. Although, if anyone has a second hand Casio they want to give to me, I'm sure I could do a good Stephin Merrit. Ha. Probably more John Shuttleworth. Now THERE would be a duet. Joe - I know of "Avril en Mai", but I can't think of any Februarys. And theres a March Records...and I'm currently humming a song about January but I'm buggered if I know what it is. Lucy - please talk more about bread knives. GEORGE HENRY DUCKIE - I noticed you saying you wanted blood. Well isn't that what runs in your veins? The whole sorry business came to an exciting climax the first time Mum and Dad went on holiday without us. I forget what the argument was about - I expect it was about how long to microwave peas for, or something equally petty - but I got so furious I grabbed the bread knife in an attempt to frighten her. Now, you understand, I would never harm a hair on the darling girl's head, but I needed to prove that I was OLDER and BIGGER and STRONGER and she SHOULD NOT MESS WITH ME. Mess with me she most certainly did not - she ran up the stairs three at a time, phoned Nanna and then locked herself in the bathroom. I then had to explain to the dear old lady who, even today, will not let me use a pair of scissors unless they have round ends and are made of plastic, exactly what I was doing clutching Betterware's finest, sharpest knife (use with antique pine-effect bread-holder for the straightest of slices) in a vaguely threatening manner in the presence of darling sister, in whose mouth butter wouldn't melt. I managed to persuade her that it was all a terrible exaggeration and that Mum and Dad really didn't need to find out, but it took a lot of effort and taught me a big lesson. Which was? Violence solves nothing, kids! Make peace, not war! DKNY trainer girl and I are bessie mates now, natch, as Sweetie and her sister will be in years to come. Hark the voice of age and experience (ahem). And finally...Lovely to see everyone who was in Lunding at the wekend. I vote for Boggle as the game of kings and Chrys Lynyrd as their minstrel. Trying to define the origins and influences of the art movements after surealism... there aren't any significant Art movements anymore... Why? cause art's been always connected to the social situation... now, that S P E C T has covered with its black wings every aspect of A every day life.... C art itself has become a spectacle... L easy to consume.... E digestable... you'll see no bright brains anymore... cause bright brains are not digestable... i'm not saying that there are not any bright brains anymore... there are... it's just that we won't see them taking the place they deserve... and as the Situationists were saying: Culture is the commodity that sells all the others... i feel so frightened in this world sometimes... sometimes I feel I don't own my life... cause is it really my life or is it just a representation of my life? Sinister: 13 Point Plan to Destroy America

Howdy folks, I don't know if it's the winter making everyone a tad wistful and melancholy or if Zoloft is putting its plan for world domination into effect by decreasing the amount of dopimine in everyone's brain, but the list has been a bit (ok, alot) drab, dull and repetitive over the past couple of months. I thought it was just me, but I talked to a few long-time and ex-Sinistereens and they noticed it to: the list has really changed recently. I remember when I first signed on about a year ago when it was alot of charismatic folk talking about interesting things and new bands, and it was a helluva lot more drunken and debaucherous than it is now. Between Nick Dasto(o)r, Genevieve, Trousers Paula Cullen, Blake, etc., you never knew what you were going to read each day when you opened your mail. I can honestly remember opening all 30 mails I would recieve a day and not skimming or deleting one until it was read; now I don't have the time or interest to read more than a scant handful. Now it seems the list is bent on the mundane and most especially the "twee" as it were. You can almost categorize the postings into three groups: a) "the things I did today that are fairly commonplace" (include token B&S moment), b) "the girl/guy who broke my heart and I have to see them everyday/every now and again and it makes things awkward," which should probably fit under "a" but sheer volume demands its on category, and c) "I'm new to the list please love me," which in my opinion is the only one excusable; (it goes without saying that George Dickie is in a category of his own, I beg you to contine posting!). What happened? The old guard is nowhere to be seen except on rare occasions and I swear its almost like one person a day jaunts from the nursery. Its almost enough to make your head spin trying to keep up with the changing face of Sinister. I think Honey did the right thing by reminding everyone to only post when you have something worthwhile or downright barn-burning to say, and I just wanted to emphasize that not only is the list admin sick of reading 30 identical emails a day but pretty much everyone on the list is fed up as well. I know more than a handful of people who have unsubbed because of it or are planning to very soon, and many of them were people who gave the list its mischevious character way back when. I guess I just miss the old rabble-rousing, drunken, fun-loving, irreverent Sinister that thumbed its nose at everything the public thought we were and just really enjoyed everyone else's company and opinions. The new list is tame and sappy to be blunt. With the influx of so many new faces I think we can really have an interesting and insightful list that can be your best friend and a source of wit and hilarity. It's got a great foundation and a loving Mummy, and if we can all learn how to make the list its best I think we'll all be much, much more satisfied. Off the soapbox... awight kidz i had to tell someone who will understand and wasn't there, i was in a club last night and heard add n to x and the pixies back to back. this isn't something which happens to me very often, so i felt it worthy of note. i realise how unlikely this is, but any of you who are in europe and in possesion of digital tv and want to see more b+s and other good videos can go to http://www.m2europe.com and choose an hour of videos which they will then show on the telly and they'll put your name in the corner of the screen to show that you chose it and everything! i don't have digital tv, so i'm not trying to show how technologically advanced i am - look i can email! - but was forced to choose an hour on pain of a spiked enema (not really, but i thought i'd continue the theme) by my bestest friend. when we compared what we'd chosen, the ones we had in common were sugarcube by yo la tengo and kewpies like watermelon by uresei yatsura. i mention this to show everyone what fine company i keep and so i can go look i do have friends really, honestly. sure i had something else to say...... i watched labyrinth (couldn't think how to spell that then) on video today - mmmm david bowie! urgh bad hair, but nevertheless fabulous eye make-up. i always notice the most important things in films. ooh, also, i talked to my flatmates this evening. i think it was possibly because we were united in ridiculing a programme on which men talked about their penises, but whatever brings people together... well, i think thats enuff for today, taxi for fiona *your momma too and your daddy +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. I'm very happy listening to the last three constantly. I think they should divide the next album up into 3 EPs. That'd make me miles happier. hey sinister, list abuse and shout outs up top. pedantic windisch speil below. bail out now if you're not ready to sink with the ship. <<<re: "sometimes i think im depriving a village somewhere of an idiot" for lines like this and lots of others, i've most assuredly taken a fancy to that paula cullen girl. If she ever gets herself to providence (the city), the tab for her booze explosion will be picked up yours truly and the rest of the five point nine action boys when i run out of money.<<< <<< thank you for the compliment velocity farewell <<< my mailer couldn't connect with yours to say thanks off list. spiel time: here are two lessons learned in life last night. Both were funny and fairly poignant at the time. (And even though this post prattles on a bit, and pokes its snout up the bum of mummybunny's recent chiding for our being so dishdurn self indulgent, it does I hope swing back to some of the core reasons anyone would like a band like b&s in the first place) one: the magic that is chickenhawk & the joy that one's actions can bring into the world. chickenhawk reminds me of a rodeo clown: couragious, funny and sanely off his gord. five foot two, built solid and even from his ever-present & contagious grin down to the place where his feet meet the top of his skateboard. his low center of gravity and springy pop allow him to consistently do the physically impossible with humor and pinache. chickenman's talent level is high and his vibe elevates everybody else around him, be it on the wooden toy machine, carousing barside, or on the job taking care of an elderly lady. he's just one of those folks that makes everything better by being there. At any rate, we're all at the park having ourselves a humpday session. everybody's taking long runs, making lots of their tricks and feeding off of each other's energy. during one of chickenhawk's runs, he did some amazing maneuver (i can't even remember what it was except that he was chest high above the ramp and and landed backwards with that big ass grin still plastered across his mug) that was so physically incredible everybody went nuts and started bellowing approval and shaking their heads in disbelief. This sort of reaction usually happens when somebody is ripping, but this time it was special. there was laughter all around. sincere grins from deep within. it lingered. 15-20 seconds later we're still looking at each other and basking in the warm glow of joy that our friend had just brought into the world. all of his own volition and for his own satisfaction. The reason why i'm relating it here, and what i think makes it resonate far from the world of five point nine skateboarding and into these sinister environs, is that it struck me as such a pure application of talent and creativity. Just some guy, doing something he feels driven to undertake for personal reasons, the product of which makes a positive and pleasurable impact on those who bear witness to it. Kind of like a song that touches you and makes your innerds tingle they way mine do when that pasty scot stuey m starts singing slow graffiti. Or the way I'm unable to resist the compulsion to sing along as loud and poofy as possible whenever get me away... comes on in the car. two: an exuberent way to greet a stranger who appears to share an esoteric interest with you. Moreso with the shy-er euro listees, i've often read about one sinister spotting another with the upended badge but not having the moxie to approach and engage the stranger. While carousing barside with findy the cake and punk rock paul at one dollar beer night, we began noticing a heavy-metal long hair guy drinking away right next to us. findy and paul, being band mates in several humorous and hard-rocking outfits as well as being past masters in the heavy-metal arts, became convinced that this fellow was probably the only other jamoke in one up that had a familarity with King Diamond (a ludicrous 80's metal icon). After a short period of trepidation, paul engaged the galoot, asking if he liked King Diamond and brandishing with his dexterous right hand the hella-killa devil horn mundra that any metaler worth his ragged mane and jean jacket has ingrained in his dna. Without skipping a beat, the stranger replied: "I only know Angeline..." and began singing a duet to this masterpiece with paul. The stranger then blew us all away with one outpouring of the high range metal scream that he was an obvious master of. We all collapsed in a heap of laughter, spilt beer and new-found comradery. Next came the if-only-this-had-been-captured-on-video lament that follows most classic bits of extemporaneous comedy and validates the fact that the scene was a pure and worthwhile moment. not to mention being the grist for an endlessly amusing memory. I know that the whole heavy-metal scream bit probably won't come in useful if trying to break the ice with a stranger who bears the outward markings of sinister; but the point remains that in many situations it is indeed better to regret something one has done than to lament an opportunity that slipped away. Trying to connect with a stranger that one seems to share an affinity with is might just constitute one of those times.
